Several Social Security Administration offices have been disrupted or closed, effectively impacting in-person services, according to the agency’s website.

Some locations listed on the agency’s “Office Closures and Emergencies” webpage are permanently closed or offering service by appointment only due to construction, inability to wait outside the office, or other reasons.

USA TODAY contacted the Social Security Administration on April 21 for additional information but did not receive a response.

How to check if your local office is affected

To see if a location near you is affected, enter your zip code in the Office Locator on the Social Security Administration website.

Which SSA offices are affected?

The affected areas include West Virginia, Texas, Pennsylvania, Northern Mariana Islands, Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan and Montana, according to the website.

The causes of individual closures and disruptions are unknown.

The agency advises recipients to use its website for assistance. If recipients need assistance and are unable to use the website, they are encouraged to call their local Social Security office at 800 country code. Employees often provide assistance over the phone, saving recipients the hassle of traveling to the office, according to the website.

If you require in-person assistance, you must make an appointment to visit your local office.
