Louis Vuitton, known for his monogram bags and luggage, has released a new makeup collection that stirs up the debate about prices.
Less than a week after its release, makeup artists have acquired Louis Vuitton’s debut cosmetics collection, and people want to share their thoughts on expensive luxury products.
Louis Vuitton debuted his first cosmetics collection, La Beauty, on Monday, August 25th. The collection, created by world-renowned makeup artist Dame Pat McGrath, includes lipsticks, lip balms and eyeshadow.
Makeup artists and enthusiasts were keen on dropping the collection, but approached skeptical due to the large price tag. One tube of lipstick from the line starts at $160, while the four shades of eyeshadow palette costs $250 (approximately $62 per shade).
Within the first week of its release, a considerable amount of content creators who shared sample and thoughts about the collection were presented by Louis Vuitton to promote a free product. However, others bravely confronted busy face-to-face pop-ups and online sales, getting items to wear and share with you one or two items.
Mainly, makeup enthusiasts express their satisfaction with the quality, colour and packaging and express their satisfaction with the collection. But in the end, the collection seemed to spark a dialogue about the meaning of luxury.
“That’s how much will you be willing to pay to feel fantasy?” Beauty Creator Sofia Papastamelos said in a recent YouTube video. “I don’t know if this will feel flashy to you. I don’t know if this is worthy of you. At the end of the day, I think luxury is a sensation. It’s luxury. It’s not about people who know they’re wearing Louis Vuitton eyeshadow.

Is a $160 Louis Vuitton lipstick worth it?
As of Sunday, August 31st, some of the outstanding Rouge’s full lipstick shades had already sold out on the Louis Vuitton website.
A content creator focused on several different make-ups described the lipstick as “moisturizing” and highly pigmented.
“It’s a bit dry, but not dry. These feel very comfortable on the lips. I think they have a decent longevity. Do you think they have as longevity as they claim them? Louis Vuitton’s website boasts that Satin Rouge will complete the last eight hours of lipstick.
At the end of the day, Papasta Melos said he doesn’t think lipstick is worth the cost as he prefers other gorgeous lipsticks on the market.
Amelia Cross, known as Amelia’s beauty chat on social media, said in a recent YouTube video that she was not impressed with the 55 shades offered as someone who was attracted to more natural tones.
“When it comes to lipstick, you know, I didn’t want to buy it in many places just because I could get some shades that I’m particularly interested in,” she said.
Luxurious weight
Overall, people who purchased (or received) products from the collection agree that each one is very large.
In her YouTube video, Cross says the Ombres Complete Eyeshadow is $250 and weighs about 5 ounces. For reference, it is as heavy as standard baseball.
“It’s very heavy,” Cross said in her video. “It’s probably the heaviest compact. When it comes to eyeshadow, it’s the heaviest compact.”
Papasta Melos said that while Rouge’s full lipstick also weighs in great weight, there is none more luxurious packaging than other brands and products, such as Celine’s La Rouge Satin lipstick ($78) or Guerlain’s customizable Ultra Care Lipstick ($80).
“I have no experience with mothership.”
It was McGrath who painted makeup lovers more in La Beauty than Louis Vuitton’s name. The award-winning makeup artist features countless celebrities in their portfolio and features a unique make-up line, Pat McGrath Labs. In particular, the line features McGrath’s Mothership eyeshadow palette, popular for its bold colour options. For reference, Mothership Palettes usually come in 10 colors for around $128.
Makeup enthusiasts quickly pointed out that LaBeauté’s omble is not the same vibrant eyeshadow as Mothership eyeshadow.
Papastamelos said in a YouTube video that Ombres’ full eyeshadow is not like McGrath’s mothership palette.
“If this is a Pat McGrath shade, it’s like gold melted throughout the lid and is very creamy. It’s a bit creamy and pigmented, but it’s not like it’s very richly saturated,” Papasta Mellos said of the Ombracet’s full eyeshadow palette beige moment.
Cross agreed.
“You’re not getting a mothership experience, but you’re not, but I don’t think any of us think we’re going to do that,” she said.

Each lipstick and lip balm features a fragrance designed by Jack Cavalier Beltoud of Master Permont of Louis Vuitton, a Louis Vuitton news release state. The lipstick has a scent of mimosa, jasmine and roses, while the balms features mint and raspberries.
