New Yorkers have a new morning drink menu looking when they don’t feel like Starbucks.

China’s largest coffee chain, Luckyn Coffee, diverged into the US at two New York City locations that opened on Monday, June 30th.

In China, the coffee giant promotes mobile apps that have created a 100% cashier-free environment in over 20,000 locations. Both New York City stores are located in Manhattan.

However, New York City has been banning cashless businesses in real life since the second half of 2020. Other major cities, including San Francisco and Philadelphia, have similar laws. USA Today has contacted Luckin Coffee to comment on future US locations.

The China-based chain hopes new US customers know about the high affordability and efficiency that arises through mobile apps “a completely changing traditional coffee business modes,” according to its website.

To celebrate New York’s debut, customers using the app can get their first drink for $1.99. Luckin Coffee also offers free tote bags to the first 100 in-store guests.

What is Luckin Coffee?

Founded in 2017, Luckin Coffee is China’s fastest growing coffee chain, with over 22,000 locations and dozens in Singapore.

It is undoubtedly the best known mobile app that created a cashier-free experience that allowed chains to grow rapidly in China.

The company’s investor page states its mission is to “create and inspire lucky moments” and its vision is to “build a world-class coffee brand and become a part of everyone’s daily life.”

“We advocate for a more convenient and faster “new retail” experience,” reads Luckin’s website.

What is the Hacking Coffee menu?

Luckin Coffee’s menu features a variety of hot coffee, cold brews, matcha drinks and fruity Americano Refreshers.

Some items include Caffe Mocha, Caramel Macchiato, Apple Fizzy Americano, Pomelo Americano, and Yirgacheffe Flat White.
