Peter Mandelson was said to have called Jeffrey Epstein his “best companion,” and urged him to “fight for early release” just before his sentence in 2008.
The White House denied Trump’s signature on Epstein’s birthday letter
The White House said President Donald Trump never signed Jeffrey Epstein’s birthday letter and vowed to take legal action against the Wall Street Journal.
United States British ambassador Peter Mandelson was fired after a series of emails and other documents.
British media reports say Mandelson called Epstein “the best pal” and urged him to “fight for early release” just before he was sentenced to prostitution in 2008. Ten years later, security guards discovered that Epstein had died in his cell in a federal prison in New York City before he could withstand trials on sex trafficking charges involving a young woman and girl. US Department of Justice investigators later concluded that Epstein committed suicide.
“The email indicates that the depth and scope of Peter Mandelson’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein is substantially different from what was known at the time of his appointment,” the UK Foreign Office said in a statement on September 11.
“Peter Mandelson’s suggestion that Jeffrey Epstein’s initial belief is illegal and should be challenged is new information,” the statement added.
The revelation of Epstein’s communication with Mandelson, which was made via email, came into effect on September 8th. The U.S. lawmakers on the House of Representatives Oversight and Reform Committee released many documents on Epstein that day, including “birthday books” from President Donald and former President Bill Clinton. Trump denied writing letters.
Mandelson’s email was first published by the British Sun Newspaper. Mandelson later admitted in an interview that his relationship with Epstein continued “a lot longer than I should have done.” He also suggests that even more “embarrassing” exchanges involving Epstein will emerge.
Mandelson said he “lied” by referring to Epstein.
According to the Sun, in one email from June 2008, Mandelson wrote to Epstein:
Another, since February 2008, also reported by Bloomberg, Mandelson wrote to Epstein:
Mandelson represents British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer. Opposition Conservative leader Kemi Badenok called on Mandelson to resign on September 10th. Another opposition, a liberal Democrat, called for a formal investigation into what he knew exactly about Mandelson’s contacts and Epstein’s contact details before he appointed the US ambassador last December.
Mandelson is a veteran British politician and also works for Prime Minister Tony Blair’s labor government. He is seen in the UK as an influential role in helping his country secure a trade contract with the US. Mandelson said he has not discussed the issue of Trump and Epstein.
