No one knows the dangers of playing in the NFL as much as former quarterback Alex Smith.

In 2018, while playing for Washington’s manager, the veteran signalling caller suffered a horrible leg injury, which would turn his entire life upside down.

“Does it affect how you engage with the world in all respects? It’s the way you fall asleep at night, the way you get out of bed in the morning, how you engage with your loved ones, but certainly how you recover and rehabilitate.”

Smith (11) was rescued from the field after being injured in 2018.

Smith said he sometimes talks about unimaginable pain, but initially he was hesitant to open conversations about painkillers because of the perceived taboos around the issue.

He has reported widely how NFL players suffer from painkiller addiction, and Smith said he has noticed a teammate who has suffered from this in his career.

The issue of addiction continues after retirement, with the former star being ordered to resort to medication to paralyze pain during his play career.

Smith said that pain management is somewhat of an afterthought during his own recovery process, but he is pleased that professional sports are taking the issue seriously right now.

For example, the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) has documents on its website that outlines the potential benefits and disadvantages of certain types of pain management.

Smith, 41, wants to use his platform to help him continue his conversation about painkillers after cutting off the cleats.

For example, in 2023, an estimated 8.9 million Americans over the age of 12 misused opioids that were misused in 2023, just as experts warn of the opioid epidemic.

“I think we all hear horror stories and know someone firsthand – I know – it deals with painkillers addiction and opiates and some of these side effects from options available in the past, and they scare you,” Smith said.

Smith went through a tough recovery process and he felt a lot of pain.

“I went home from the hospital with rescue medicine. My wife and I were terrified. I felt guilty and scared when I was feeling the pain so I asked for release.

“There are more options, there are stigmas and it was taboo to talk about this. These are difficult conversations, but there’s no need to.

Smith is currently facing a new campaign that seeks to provide individualized plans to people who are dealing with painkillers.

He said he hopes that it will give people more power to what his body needs, how he can safely get it, especially the pack of rookies heading into the NFL this season.

“The options weren’t great when I was dealing with the pain,” he said.

“I wish I could go back and come up with a plan, you know, a literal pain game plan, that would help me so much. So I want to encourage people to do these conversations.

“It doesn’t have to be a taboo anymore. There are so many options out there.”

The US Food and Drug Administration says it is beginning a process of removing and dropping fluoride tablets from the market.

These products are usually prescribed to babies and children who are at high risk of cavities because they drink fluoride-free water. In Utah, for example, state health officials released guidance this month urging residents to learn more about fluoride supplements after the city’s water system was banned from adding minerals to water.

In a news release Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said that ingested fluoride has been shown to alter the gut microbiota. Other studies point to the association between fluoride and thyroid disorders, weight gain and intelligence loss, the news release said. HHS said they have never officially approved by the FDA.

“The best way to prevent tooth decay in children is to avoid excessive sugar intake and good dental hygiene, rather than changing the child’s microbiome. Fluoride can kill tooth bacteria, which are important for the health of a child.

“I have directed the Drug Assessment and Research Center to assess evidence regarding the risk of systemic fluoride exposure from FDA-controlled pediatric ingestible fluoride prescription drugs.

The agency will complete the safety review and public comment period Regarding measures taken until October 31st.

Fluorides are minerals that can be found naturally in some foods and groundwater. It helps to prevent tooth decay by strengthening the protective outer layer of enamel, which can be worn by acids formed by bacteria, plaques and sugars in the mouth. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says drinking fluorinated water reduces children and adults by about 25%. However, the Trump administration is increasing scrutiny about the potential health effects of fluoride.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has pledged to roll back the CDC recommendations to add fluoride to municipal drinking water, and a panel of experts will review the guidelines and create new recommendations.

Kennedy cannot formally prevent the community from adding fluoride to drinking water, but some states and cities have already followed his lead. Utah recently banned the use of fluoride in drinking water, and Florida lawmakers have passed a similar ban. Other states are considering similar moves.

“The end of using ingestible fluorides has been postponed for a long time,” Kennedy said in a news release Tuesday. “I would like to thank Commissioner McCalley for their leadership on this important issue, which directly protects the health and development of children. This decision brings us one step closer to realizing President Trump’s promise to make America healthy again.”

In Utah, Dr. Stacey Bank, executive medical director of the state Department of Health and Human Services, told CNN last week that he was working hard to reveal what he said about fluoride supplements because water was no longer fluorinated. The state recently passed a law to allow pharmacists to provide oral fluoride without a prescription.

“The main message we’re trying to reach people is that they have to be proactive about getting fluoride, which is no longer passive to them. This is something they have to take on themselves through their healthcare providers, dentists and pharmacists,” Bank said.

Remove fluoride supplements from the market and you’ll still have topical options like fluorinated toothpaste and mouthwash that will help strengthen your teeth.

Both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Dental Association support the use of fluoride to reduce tooth decay in children and adults.

“AAP recommends using the right amount of fluorinated toothpaste, fluoride crocodile streets for young children, and visiting dentists on their child’s first birthday as part of their daily oral hygiene,” the pediatrician said on its website.

“A rigorous review of fluoride safety has not consistently found any reliable evidence linking it to systemic or unfavourable health issues. AAP recommends using the right amount of fluorinated toothpaste, a fluoride crocodile street treatment for young children.

European companies are increasingly lobbying for strong climate action, and research has found in “deep change” that analysts say they challenge the narrative that companies view green rules as a threat to profits.

According to an analysis of the largest European companies by InfluenceMap, corporate lobbying “surged from 3% in 2019 to 23% in 2025, with the share of companies considered “inconsistent” falling from 34% to 14%, resulting in a decline in the share of companies that are “aligned” with the pathways to reach global climate targets.

The report found that more than half of the companies were at least “partially partially aligned” to prevent pre-industrial levels from reaching 1.5°C by the end of the century.

“People who speak out and organize to oppose the energy transition achieve great importance throughout the entire public debate,” said Venetia Roxburgh, an analyst at InfluenceMap, a nonprofit that tracks corporate lobbying. “However, this study shows that there is a larger, quiet majority that supports promoting progress through decarbonization and climate policy.”

Researchers tracked business engagement on climate policy through a range of channels, from company disclosures to EU consultation documents and social media posts. They gave more weight to statements from managers and formal consultations on specific policies, making recent evidence even more important.

They found that a larger and greater proportion of the corporate sector is engaged in aggressive climate advocacy.

In 2019, when the European Commission announced the Green Deal, only one in four companies lobbyed in part in line with the Paris Agreement’s goal of preventing the planet from heating 1.5c (2.7F). By 2025, its share has doubled.

Researchers found that industry groups were lagging behind individual companies. The share of an aligned or partially aligned association increased from 2% in 2019 to 12% in 2025, far below the share of similar supporters.

The disparity may arise from industry groups that prioritize the views of the biggest opponents of climate policy, but it could be the result of companies channeling offensive lobbying requests through trade groups.

“It appears that the EU industry association is fighting a losing battle against the tide of positive corporate action on climate policy,” Roxborough said. “[They]need to urgently reassess their priorities to continue acting as true representatives of most of their membership.”

The worst company in rankings weighted by level of engagement on policy was the Polish utility PGE. Austrian oil and gas producer OMV. Spanish oil and gas producer Repsol. Enaga is a Spanish transmission system operator. German airline Lufthansa.

Energas, which advocates for weakening measures to support the long-term role of fossil gas in energy and transport and to undermine measures to detect and repair methane emission leaks, said it is committed to reaching zero emissions by 2040. It added that it was embracing EU methane regulation.

Lufthansa cited the impact cited as lobbying for the EU’s mission for sustainable aviation fuels and the EU’s mission to include aviation entirely in the EU emissions trading system, but said it was not opposed to either policy and called for a “competitive neutral implementation.”

Angel City defender Sabbiking had a successful heart surgery on Tuesday after collapsed in a National Women’s Football League (NWSL) match on Friday.

The 20-year-old fell to the ground in the 74th minute of an Angel City match against the Utah Royals, attended by a medical professional who appears to be managing CPR.

About ten minutes after the collapse, King was stretching out of the field with an oxygen mask on his face, causing some players to visibly suffer.

In a statement released Tuesday night, Angel City said King was taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Saturday.

After taking the test, it was discovered that King had a heart abnormality and that the surgery was successful to deal with it.

“She is now resting and recovering, surrounded by her family and has a good prognosis,” Angel City said.

King’s family also issued its own statement and thanked the medical staff for their care.

“On behalf of the whole family, along with Saby, we have been very impressed with the love and support we have from Angel City players, staff, fans, the community and football fans across the country,” they said. “I’m blessed to be able to share that Savy is recovering well and look forward to having her home soon.

King was stretching out from the field after collapsed during the game.

“We would like to thank the incredible Angel City medical staff for acting quickly and for the medical team who gave her such exceptional care. We will never forget the kindness and care you have shown.

After Friday’s match, Angel City won 2-0 with goals from Kristen Press and Alyssa Thompson – a set of both players joined each other to pray for the King.

Some players appeared to have been affected by King’s collapse, but the match resumed after King left the field.

King, who was selected as Bay FC for the second overall pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft, started all eight Angel City games this season and joined the club in February.

Prior to joining the NWSL, she played at the University of North Carolina and made multiple appearances on the U.S. Youth Varsity Team at the Under-17 and Under-20 levels.

Cancer patients in clinical trials may lose unstable time after NIH staffing


With the future of cancer treatment at Limbo, Natalie Phelps doesn’t know how long she can wait.

Last month, months after sought treatment options for her colorectal cancer, the two 43-year-old mothers were accepted into ongoing research at the National Institutes of Health. She believed that the study would allow her to receive experimental immunotherapy, but now faces an unbearable choice equally unbearable waiting.

First of all, her tumor must grow to at least 1 centimeter to receive treatment, she said. But even after she meets that standard, a sharp decline in the NIH workforce means that her treatment will take much longer than initially expected. She worries that the extra time may make a huge difference to her health.

The Trump administration is conducting a US Department of Health and Human Services funding and restructuring review, resulting in massive job cuts in federal health agencies under the HHS, including the NIH.

According to the Trump administration, some of the HHS transformations include “reducing the NIH workforce by centralizing procurement, personnel and communications across 27 labs and centers. The administration announced in late March that taxpayers will save $1.8 billion a year through an overall cut in around 10,000 full-time employees through the HHS restructuring.

Phelps said some of the scientists working on her NIH trial were one of the cuts.

Phelps was diagnosed with stage IV colorectal cancer in 2020 at the age of 38. She was pregnant for nearly eight months at the time, so the symptoms originally – abdominal pain, irregular intestinal movements, mucus was probably due to pregnancy or hemo bone. However, as her symptoms worsened, she underwent a colonoscopy to detect tumors in her rectum. Further testing confirmed that it was cancer and spread to the liver.

Phelps underwent surgery to remove early tumors, radiation therapy, three liver surgeries and 48 rounds of chemotherapy. But cancer continues to spread, she said. That’s why she wants to try immunotherapy through the NIH trial and is worried about waiting.

Immunotherapy is a type of cancer treatment that uses a person’s own immune cells to target and fight diseases. The NIH trials included T-cell receptor-based therapies in particular, including Phelps’ immune cells collected by blood collection, she said. Once her tumor grows and meets criteria, the cells are designed to target her cancer, she said.

However, as more researchers aren’t working on the test as much as before NIH staff cut, the time it took to design the cell for that next step has increased from four to eight weeks, Phelps said.

“So here’s the tricky part. Do you want to continue with chemotherapy and hope that the tumor will grow and meet the 1cm threshold, or will you give up on clinical trials for now?” Phelps said. Giving up the trial means returning to traditional chemotherapy and radiation to treat her cancer.

She was told that the NIH team works to design cells at a faster rate than the other teams under examination, so it doesn’t take eight weeks, but the process still takes a few weeks.

Overall, “It’s a big deal for people with metastatic cancer to be four to eight weeks,” Phelps said, adding that it could lead to more complications or even life-threatening.

“To give you a personal example, at the end of March, my scan showed I had a stable illness and my blood test showed my tumor antigen coming down. This cancer embryo embryo antigen test measurement measures the levels of CEA protein in the blood, as certain cancers, such as the colorectal, can cause high levels.

“A month later, my illness was my bones, all my lymph nodes, and my CEA marker was 203. That’s a month in four weeks,” she said. “For some patients, that may not be a big deal. For others like me, it could potentially take their lives.”

Cuts in NIH funding and staff are occurring at an increasing number of cases of colorectal cancer among young adults. According to a report published by the American Cancer Society in 2023, the proportion of cases of colon cancer among adults under the age of 55 increased from 11% in 1995 to 20% in 2019.

“The rate of cancer in people under the age of 50 is on the rise, and they tend to be aggressive and late stage cancer,” Phelps said. “So if you’re concerned about maintaining America’s health, it makes sense to reduce medical research when cancer rates are rising with young populations working and driving the economy.”

Phelps added that if she could swing the magic wand, “I hope that all cancer research before this administration began will recover to where it was.”

HHS is “continuedly committed” to advances in cancer research, spokesman Andrew Nixon said in an email.

“HHS has a deep appreciation of cancer research and remains committed to advances in life-saving scientific research that improves patient care and outcomes and brings America back to health,” he said.

When plans for a restructuring of HHS were announced in late March, HHS executive director Robert F. Kennedy Jr. described it as an effort to enable taxpayers to do more at a lower cost.

“This overhaul is advantageous for both taxpayers and those whom HHS serves,” he said.

On Wednesday, Kennedy faces questions from senators on the Senate’s Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, hearing about the budget proposed by the 2026 budget president of HHS.

A new Senate Aid Committee Minority Staff Report, released Tuesday and written by Senator Bernie Sanders of I-Vermont, found that the Trump administration cut $2.7 billion in NIH research funding in the first three months of the year.

In a response to X’s post, HHS called Sanders’s report “clearly false,” and a “political motivational distortion that undermines the thousands of dedicated public health professionals across HHS who remain in their commitment to providing results for Americans.” In this post, HHS added that it is “rationalizing programs, eliminating redundancy, and above all prioritizing gold standard science.”

It is estimated that at least one in five people with cancer in the United States participates in some form of medical research.

“Clinical trials are an important part of delivering care to patients. At all large academic centers, such as large cancer centres, clinical trials are deeply ingrained in patient care. Without clinical trials, advances in patient care are not made. Deaconess Medical Center follows changes at NIH.

“With already there was a huge investment in the project, we can say that the end of Multyear Research Projects will lead to a waste of taxpayers’ dollars,” he said. “Therefore, if you finish the study when it’s done in the middle or three-quarters of the method is completed, then there is no profit for the science or the patient after already having a significant investment.”

According to McDonald’s, the sweet treat combines a soft serve of vanilla with matte cake flavored confetti cookie dough and birthday cake syrup. The regular size has a total of 680 calories, with a total of 440 snack sizes.

The McFlurry was invented 30 years ago in Bathurst, New Brunswick, and was released on June 7, 1995.

Earlier this year, the company launched the limited-time “’95 McFlurry” in Ontario as part of its basketball team’s collaboration with the Toronto Raptors. This item combines team’s purple and red colours with vanilla soft serve, red pop candies and blueberry flavored syrup.

China’s imports into the US have fallen to the lowest level since punishment began to be punished in March, according to recently released census trade data.

Trade experts believe that changing trade patterns under President Donald Trump’s control is attributed to on-off tariffs.

“Everyone who tries to defeat tariffs distorts everything,” said Jennifer Hillman, a professor of practice at Georgetown University Law Center, and Jennifer Hillman, an international trade researcher at the Council of Foreign Relations.

How did import levels affect China and the US trade?

China, one of the largest US trading partners and the key target of Trump’s ever-changing tariff policy, fell 5% compared to March 2024, at a minimum of $28 billion over the past five years.

After months of tariffs escalate between the two biggest economies in the world, the trade war between the US and China enters a new chapter. This is a sharp 90-day tariff reduction as the two countries continue to give trade talks this week.

Under the new trade agreement, the US will reduce tariffs on Chinese imports from 145% to 30%, while China will reduce import tariffs on American goods from 125% to 10%.

“We have achieved a complete reset with China after productive talks in Geneva,” Trump said on May 12.

In March, imports from China fell as Trump doubled tariffs on all Chinese products to 20% and imposed a 25% duty on all steel and aluminum imports in addition to existing tariffs.

In April, when Trump suspended his “mutual” tariffs, he imposed universal taxes on almost everything from all countries for 90 days, US tariffs on Chinese goods rose up by up to 145%.

“One of the really bad things about these tariffs is how regressed they are,” says Hillman, an international trade expert. “In other words, for your average low- or middle-income family, they’re going to buy exactly the same items that are subject to all these duties, even about 40% of your total income, or even 50%.”

China supplies 74% of imported toys, 40% of imported footwear and headgear in the United States, and a quarter of electronics and clothing, based on a 2024 analysis of US imports.

Imports from the European Union have skyrocketed

Despite China’s imports falling to post-pandemic lows, shipments from major partners such as the European Union, Mexico and Canada flooded the US in March.

Imports from the European Union rose the most in March, accounting for nearly $82 billion for about a quarter of the total US imports that month. This is a 65% increase compared to March 2024.

President Trump threatened a 200% tariff on European wine, champagne and spirits in March if the EU decides to move forward with a 50% retaliation tariff on American whiskey.

Although 200% wine fees were never implemented, the EU faces 10% “mutual” tariffs on steel, aluminum and cars, plus 25% US tariffs on all things.

“We’re looking forward to seeing you get a lot of money,” said Patrick Allen, a European wine importer based in Columbus, Ohio. “You’re going to spike now because there are windows, but those windows will be closed soon.”

Wine imports from the European Union in March reached nearly $526 million, according to a USA Today analysis of the latest trade data.

Allen said the 200% tariff would cause many businesses to go out of business. A 20% tariff kills the trader’s cash flow. Regarding the 10% tariff, it’s “just painful.”

“These small businesses have done nothing wrong,” said trade expert Hillman. “Think about everything that is simply not produced in the US. European wine is clearly one of them, but coffee, cocoa, important minerals, and more.

Allen says he’s already raising the prices of wine for his distributors and after running a wine import company with his wife Connie for 21 years, he’s worried about the future of their business.

“A small tariff is difficult. A large tariff? We can find new businesses related to our lives.”

Nottingham Forest striker, fatty awoniyi, reportedly placed in induced coma after a “urgent” surgery for a serious abdominal injury that was damaged during a Premier League match over the weekend.

Awoniyi collided with the post during a 2-2 draw for Forest with Leicester City on Sunday, but remained on the final 10 minutes of the game despite being clearly hampered after the incident.

In a statement Tuesday, Forest said the Nigerian striker was “well recuperating” after surgery for “serious abdominal injury.”

British media, including the BBC and Sky Sports, reported that Awoniyi was placed in a hospital-guided coma as part of the recovery process.

When CNN reached, Nottingham Forest pointed out Tuesday’s statement and declined to comment further.

Awoniyi was injured as he tried to complete connection with Anthony Elanga’s cross.
The 27-year-old stretched to get in contact with the ball in an attempt to score, but in his efforts he collided with the frame of the goal. It was later revealed that Elanga was offside, but sideline officials didn’t raise the flag until Awoniyi hit the post.

Awoniyi then received long treatment on the pitch, but was deemed OK to continue. After Awoniyi signaled he deserved to continue playing, Forest made the final permitted alternative.

Awoniyi was injured after colliding with the Post during a Premier League match against Leicester City.

According to a statement Tuesday by Forest, the decision to allow Awoniyi to stay on the pitch after an evaluation from medical staff sparked a heated debate over the field between club owner Evangelos Marinakis and manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Espirito Santo said he was asking about the decision from the club’s medical staff to allow Marinakis to continue Awoniyi after the match, not related to the team’s performance.

In a harsh statement on Tuesday, Forest rejected comments that Marinakis had faced off Espirito Santo with “fake news.”

Pakistan said on Tuesday that 40 civilians were killed in India’s firing, 121 were injured and 11 members of its army were killed. India has previously said that 15 civilians have been killed, 59 people have been injured and five soldiers have been lost.

For around 15 million people living in disputed areas, the latest hostilities seemed to promote political solutions for their homes more than ever before.

However, the immediate concern on both sides of Kashmir is the time when the sky stays quiet.

“There’s an uneasy calm here,” Amir Choudhary, 25, of the town of Aquinor in India, told CNN on Sunday hours after the ceasefire took effect.

“The market is open again, and some of those who left have slowly come back,” he said.

“There’s still some anxiety about what will happen when the night comes,” he added.

On the other side of control, in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, Saima Ashraf shared those feelings.

“Uncertainty still prevails,” she said. “It’s not a lasting solution that many people believe it is (a ceasefire).”

Others are unclear when they will be able to return to their homes or villages.

“Many of them are waiting to see how the situation develops before they decide to return,” Akhtar Ayoub, a local government official in Pakistan’s Neelam Valley, told Reuters.

Raja Shokat Iqbal, who lives near the de facto border, described the ceasefire as “essential to the people of Kashmir,” who said it was paying high prices on both sides of the gap.

“The two countries needed this peace at the international level as nuclear power, the mistakes and rage of any nation could cause 2 billion deaths,” he assumed.

Kashmir has been a flash point since 1947 when British India was quickly split into two by its former colonial rulers.

It was then the birth of two countries: India, a majority of Hinduism and Pakistan, a majority of Muslims. Millions suddenly found themselves on the “wrong” side of the new border, leading to a desperate, bloody massive movement that tores the community.

Kashmir, a Muslim majority state led by a Hindu monarch, was in a unique position. Pakistan claimed territory, and the prince chose India.

Two countries grabbed by fervent nationalism, both Pakistan and India believe that the majority of Muslim Kashmir is an integral part of their country.

In the case of Pakistan, founded as the home of South Asian Muslims, the Kashmir division is considered a historical injustice in the tomb.

The country’s powerful army is run by general Asim Munier, known for his hard-line attitude towards India. According to local media reports, he described Kashmir as Pakistan’s “jugular vein” just weeks before the latest conflict.

India has long accused Pakistan of funding Kashmir terrorist groups. This is the charge that was rejected by Islamabad. Meanwhile, Pakistan is trying to position the cause of violence in the region as a result of alleged “oppression” in New Delhi.

Hindu nationalist Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pushed for a more uncompromising position on the contested land.

In 2019, his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government divided the previous state into two union territories, and took control of the Muslim majority region on a larger scale to the government of New Delhi.

India and Pakistan both claim victory from the latest conflict.

New Delhi says that the strikes within Pakistan’s deepest territory since one of the 1971 wars have eradicated the terrorist camps used to plan attacks on India, including the tourist genocide that sparked last month’s conflict.

According to Pakistan, the Air Force has shot down five Indian fighter jets, including advanced Lafale fighters made in France.

On Monday, in his first statement since the battle began, Modi said India “just paused our reactive attacks on Pakistan’s fear and the military hub.”

“We will measure every step of Pakistan in the coming days,” he said.

People on both sides of the border have long lived under the threat of artillery fire and strike.

A student from Uri, India-controlled by Kashmir, described CNN, who was awake when the sounds of artillery shook his home last week.

“We sat in silence and very petrified,” he said. “Praying for the next target is not in our family or our home.”

Students who CNN has not named it for security reasons described a moment of jubilation when they heard the news that they had announced a ceasefire.

“The smiles smeared over our faces and we hugged them,” he said.

“We want to maintain this ceasefire now. Both countries need to find a long-term solution.”

Iqbal, a worker at the power plant, said he was trying to remain optimistic despite the damages.

“We’re lucky,” he said. “We have a home to rebuild, our family is together. We hope things don’t resume. But there’s no guarantee.”

CAIRO, May 14 (Reuters) – Israeli military attacks killed at least 50 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, local health officials said in a striking escalation of artillery fires as President Donald Trump continued his visit to the Middle East.

Medick said the majority of the deaths, including women and children, stem from barrages of Israeli airstrikes targeting several homes in the Jabaria region of northern Gaza.

The Israeli military did not immediately comment and said it was attempting to verify the report.

The Israeli report said Wednesday that security guards believe Hamas military leader Mohammad Singhwar and other senior officials were killed in Tuesday’s strike.

There were no confirmations from the Israeli forces or Hamas. On Wednesday, witnesses and medical science said Israeli airstrikes hit bulldozers, approaching a strike area at a European hospital, causing several people to injure.

Later Tuesday, Islamic jihad, a militant group supporting Iran in Gaza that allied with Hamas, launched a rocket at Israel. Shortly before the Israeli strike began accordingly, the military issued evacuation orders to residents of Jabaria and nearby Beit Rahiya areas.

Israeli escalation is contrary to the Palestinians’ hopes that Trump’s visit might put pressure on the weakening of violence. Hamas released Edan Alexander, the last known American hostage, on Monday, ahead of Trump’s trip.

Speaking in Riyadh on Tuesday, Trump added that Gaza people deserve a better future as more hostages chase after Alexander.

Hamas and Israel have been responsible for efforts to agree to a ceasefire in recent weeks. Hamas spoke with mediators in America, Egypt and Qatar to arrange for the release of Alexander, and Israel sent the team to Doha to begin a new talk.

On Tuesday, Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Adam Beller met hostage families in Tel Aviv and said there is a likely release agreement following their contract with Alexander.

The US has also proposed plans to use private contractors to resume humanitarian delivery in Gaza. Israel, which has imposed a total supply of supplies that enters Gaza from March 2, has approved the plan. However, it was rejected by the United Nations and international aid agencies, and important details, including funding and donors, remain unknown.

Israel launched its invasion of Gaza in retaliation for Hamas-led attacks on communities in southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people, and 251 were taken to Gaza hostages, according to Israeli tallies.

According to local health officials, the Israeli campaign killed more than 52,900 Palestinians and destroyed small coastal enclaves. According to aid organizations and international organizations, a population of around 2.3 million is on the brink of hunger.
