What are the Trump tax bills for you? Child tax credits, etc.

0

play

The “big and beautiful tax bill” has progressed through Congress, but how big and beautiful is it for you?

With Trump’s big victory, the bill won approval from the main Congressional committee on May 18th, moving forward towards a possible passing in the House later this week. This law is far from a transaction that has still been made. Once you pass through the gauntlet of the house, teeth It is expected to go through committee and floor voting in the Senate. Policy details may be tweaked at any point along the way.

But if the bill passes as is (probably longshot), it will include higher standard deductions, particularly for seniors, increased child tax credits (CTC), and many other items that will fulfill President Donald Trump’s campaign promises for Americans.

Expanded child tax credits may help families in particular. The Tax Policy Center estimates that the larger child tax credit will provide an additional $22.9 billion in benefits to families with children in 2026.

What are the details about the new Child Tax Credit?

Here’s how the new child tax credit under one big beautiful bill law works:

  • The child tax credit will increase to $2,500 per child through 2028.
  • From 2028 onwards, the full child tax credit will fall to $2,000, but it has been indexed into inflation.
  • Applicants must have a Social Security number to qualify for credit.
  • The maximum refundable portion of the child’s tax credit does not exceed $1,400 per qualifying child. Up to $1,700 can be refunded at this time.

Who was the proposed child tax credit benefit?

While most families with children should benefit, experts say there is more to it than other families.

The plan “mainly will benefit middle- and high-income families who are owed additional income taxes, even after receiving a $2,000 CTC,” the Tax Policy Center said. “Low-income families who are restricting CTC in stages will not benefit further from this option.”

Families who benefit from the change will see an average increase in credit between $700 and $800, the Tax Policy Center said. The lowest-income beneficiaries said they would receive an average increase in profits of just over $350.

Additionally, when parents submit jointly and request tax cuts for eligible children, millions of families cannot benefit at all due to the new requirement that parents have a valid Social Security number, experts said.

According to the Center for Immigration Research, an estimated 4.5 million children, who are citizens or legal permanent residents, will be disqualified for CTC due to the bill’s requirements that both parents have a Social Security number, even if both parents have a Social Security number. These children are currently eligible for CTC.

“This exclusion applies to families with one parent being a citizen and the other parent being legally in the country but without a Social Security number,” the budget and policy priorities said.

What else should Americans care about in tax bills?

Below are some of the other items that could help Americans save money from the tax proposal released on May 12th.

  • Ensure that 2017 tax cuts and employment, including a $2,000 child tax credit, will work permanently. CTC will return to $1,000 at the end of the year if not extended.
  • Individuals increase $1,000, head of household $1,500, and married couples increase $2,000
  • Provided Americans over the age of 65 in a given income will limit the additional deduction of $4,000 per filer. This is supported by AARP, a non-profit, nonpartisan organization that advocates the needs and benefits of people over 50, in lieu of Trump’s campaign promise to eliminate taxes on social security income.
  • Give each child $1,000 for parents who open under the name “Money Account for Growth and Investment,” also known as “MAGA” savings accounts.
  • Clean Energy Tax Credit Expire Early – This year

Is it too early to plan a tax bill?

Tax proposals make tax planning difficult for several reasons. Both the fate and the final bill are still pending, with some proposals retroactive by January 1, 2025, while others are effective in 2026 or future years.

But Richard Pont, a certified public accountant in San Francisco, suggests a few things people might consider under the first legislation. They are:

  • Buy an electric vehicle this year as your $7,500 clean vehicle credit expires in 2025 rather than 2032
  • The tax credit expires this year rather than 2034, so purchase clean energy equipment such as solar and wind energy.
  • Make an energy efficient home improvement eligible for a 30% credit or this credit expires this year rather than 2032, so you will be subject to a home energy audit
  • Hold on to your money. “In 2026, there’s no need to give big gifts to family and friends anymore as real estate tax exemptions won’t decrease,” Pong said.

“No Plan” for immigrant reality television shows

0

The Trump administration has not considered a reality show where immigrants compete for citizenship, despite statements of opposition by departmental spokespersons, according to the Homeland Security Director.

Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem told the Senate Committee on May 20 that she and her leadership team “have no knowledge” of the reality show.

“There may have been some that were submitted somewhere along the line because there were proposals proposed to the department, but me and my management had no knowledge of the reality show,” Noem told the Senate’s Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs.

“We have no plans to do a reality show at all,” she added.

On May 16th, Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin wondered whether there was a conversation about the idea.

“This is completely wrong. The Daily Mail ‘report’ is a humiliation to journalism. Secretary Gnome is not “supporting” nor is he aware of the pitch of a scripted or real-life show,” McLaughlin said in a statement emailed to USA Today.

However, McLaughlin told the Wall Street Journal that the department is considering collaborating on television. The pitch reportedly came from the people who created the “duck dynasty.”

Daily Mail cited Trump’s appointee and assistant DHS secretary McLaughlin in support of the project.

“I think that’s a good idea,” McLaughlin cited as saying.

Noem told the senators that reports on such collaborations were “inaccurate and false.”

‘My 600 pounds. Life’Star Latonya Pottain dies at age 40

play

Latonya Pottain, a northern Louisiana woman known for appearing in “My 600 pounds. Life,” confirmed by a local coroner, passed away at the age of 40.

The former reality TV star’s death on May 17 has not been confirmed, but preliminary findings suggest that it is likely due to congestive heart failure.

The Shreveport woman became famous when she appeared on season 11 of the hit TLC show. This presents the emotional journey of morbidly obese patients to lose weight with diet and gastric bypass surgery.

Season 11 Episode 2 followed Pottyne, the youngest of three siblings who became food due to emotional comfort following a series of challenging life experiences. When she was 12, her mother died suddenly and her father left to be with another woman. She lived with her oldest sister until she was 15 when her father co-signed a place to live on her own.

According to the Shreveport Times, part of the USA Today Network, Pottain helped him lose weight by taking part in the show to lose weight. She said her brother passed away just before filming began, which affected her ability to lose weight at that point.

“I’m back with my trainer, I’m on a diet and I’m losing weight,” Potine told the Shreveport Times in 2023.

Pottain asked for financial support for treatment this year

In February, Pottain created a GoFundMe page for financial support since June 2024 due to serious health issues, as financial support has been bedridden and approaching its maximum weight of 740 pounds.

“I worked very hard to beat it,” Pottain wrote. “My journey with my weight struggle has been long and difficult. In 2022, I started at 531 pounds and worked hard to get to 505 pounds. But after the show aired, I experienced an overwhelming backlash.

Pottain revealed that he moved to Houston in 2023 for a “fresh start” but unfortunately he was in an abusive relationship while dealing with his father’s new cancer diagnosis.

“I returned to Louisiana because I couldn’t make any emotional and physical sacrifices. Unfortunately, my health continued to decline and developed severe sciatica that caused extreme stomach cramps,” she wrote. “I was prescribed fentanyl, but my body refused medication and started treatment. Now I’m completely bedridden and can’t go to the hospital.

Pottain was passionate about foster parents

With no stable environment to grow, Pottain tried to help others in her community as a foster parent.

“For the rest of my life I have cared for young girls, supported them, walked through school, helped them, encouraged them, helped them out and were there for them,” Pottyne said in 2023.

At the time, she was aiming to find a house for a group of girls and have a “great wedding.”

“Life is turned, you have to be positive and you have to remember that you are special.

FDA limits future Covid-19 shots to seniors and those at risk of serious infections

0

The US Food and Drug Administration is changing the way Americans approve COVID-19 vaccines. This is a move to limit future vaccines to older Americans and those at high risk of serious COVID-19 infections.

The agency is changing the standard of evidence required to approve the Covid-19 vaccine in the United States. Dr. Vinay Prasad, the new director of the FDA’s Center for Biological Evaluation and Research, and Dr. Marty McCurry, FDA Commissioner, said in an editorial published in the New England Journal of Medicine of Medicine, published Tuesday.

This change means that Covid-19 shots are likely to be available in adults over 65 years old and in the fall, where there is a higher risk of Covid-19 infection, but not for everyone who has qualified for previously updated shots. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, almost three-quarters of Americans over six months have a underlying medical condition, which means they are more fundamentally ill and at higher risk.

This change has already been studied by experts advising the CDC on vaccine recommendations, but will more closely coordinate the US with Covid-19 vaccine recommendations in the UK, Canada and Australia.

Millions of healthy adults and children may lose access to updated vaccines under new standards. Prasad and Makary say there is not enough evidence that healthy children and adults are gaining clinically meaningful benefits from regular Covid-19 shots. They want to see a placebo-controlled trial, especially in adults aged 50-64, before recommending shots from other groups.

Dr. Noel Brewer, professor of public health and health behavior at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, said he supports the change.

“The proposed policy moves the United States along other countries. This global view on public health is a welcome development,” he said, a member of the CDC’s advisory committee on vaccination practices and was part of a working group pondering changes to Covid vaccine recommendations.

However, he and other experts say they are still worried about children under the age of 2, who have a high hospitalization rate since Covid-19.

Dr. Paul Offit, director of the Center for Vaccine Education at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and a member of the FDA’s Independent Advisory Group on Vaccines, says he is opposed to the premises underlying the new framework.

“We have been using evidence-based approaches to Covid-19 vaccination, but we believe that they are kind of swooping and getting ‘gold standard’ data for the first time, robust data.

“That’s why we made a good decision about the vaccine. That’s why it’s so safe. In other words, mRNA vaccines are very safe.”

The editors say the Covid-19 vaccine for people over 65 years old and the Covid-19 vaccine for people over six months, which underlie health conditions at higher risk from COVID-19 infection, will be approved as able to demonstrate that drug companies produce protective antibody levels in people.

These types of studies are called immunobridging studies. They are usually done in a small number of people, and, importantly, they can be done quickly, so vaccine production is up in time and ready for the waves of disease that are normally expected over fall and winter.

This is primarily how seasonal influenza vaccinations are approved annually in the United States, and is how the FDA has approved the Covid-19 vaccine for the past few years.

For everyone else, the FDA only approves the vaccine after studies that prove that shots can better prevent symptomatic Covid-19 than placebo. The FDA considers several secondary outcomes, including severe illness, hospitalization, and death.

The new plan does not consider other effects of Covid-19 infections, such as the long Covid. Research shows that vaccinations may reduce the risk of developing long covids between 25% and 60%.

Prasad and Makary say the new policy needs to balance the need to quickly approve vaccines by fall for the most vulnerable adults and children and provide more evidence before they can be provided to others.

Additionally, millions of Americans under the age of 65 say they are eligible to win the covid-19 vaccine if they have a wide range of health conditions identified by the CDC as being at high risk for severe illness from COVID-19.

“Estimates suggest that between 100 million and 200 million Americans have access to the vaccine this way,” FDA officials wrote.

Prasad and Makary say the goal of asking other groups for more evidence is to restore public confidence in the vaccine.

They point out that over the past two seasons, under 25% of Americans have been receiving Covid-19 shots. This includes less than 10% of children over the age of 75 and less than 50% of adults.

They say the widespread Covid-19 vaccine recommendations and mandate during the pandemic have erod public trust and have also caused a drop in the proportion of other types of vaccines, including measles, mumps and rubella vaccines.

This is a broken news article and will be updated.

This girl is trying to keep her family alive in Gaza

0

CNN
–

A bright pink jumper with a photo of Cinderella hangs from Jana’s thin shoulders as she walks through the moonscape of Gaza to the north. Clenching a large tub in her hands, the 12-year-old is on a mission: finding food and water.

Jana Mohammed Khalil Musleh Al-Skeifi and her family say that Israeli snipers killed his brother more than a year ago and are responsible for getting supplies for her. Her parents are in poor health and are now falling on her to feed them.

“I don’t want my dad to get tired, so I’m strong. I want to be strong, so my dad won’t suffer,” Yana told CNN while waiting in line at a water distribution location in Gaza city. “My dad is an elderly person and has heart disease. When he tries to carry a bucket, he collapses.”

Saving hard work to her father, the few girls carried two heavy buckets full of water back home.

After Israel launched a brutal war in Gaza following the October 7 terrorist attacks by Hamas and its allies, it became difficult to find food and water. However, things have become catastrophic since Israel imposed a complete lockdown on all aid more than 11 weeks ago.

A UN support report issued earlier this month said one in five people in Gaza faces hunger as territory, facing a base of 2.1 million people, near the edge of artificial hunger.

Israel said it aims to pressure Hamas to release hostages held in enclaves, along with the blockade and a new military campaign. However, many international organizations have accused Israel of using hunger as a weapon of war.

Getting clean water has been difficult for months as Israel restricts access to water treatment and desalination devices and claims that these items can be used to manufacture weapons.

The humanitarian organisation, the borderless doctor, said that more than two-thirds of the 1,700 water and sanitation items that were attempted to deliver to Gaza between January 2024 and early March 2025 had been denied by Israeli authorities.

“There’s no proper queuing system so you can barely fill one bucket. If you wait, you might not get anything.

“I’ve been sitting there for hours waiting to fill in one bucket. That’s a terrible feeling.”

The family told CNN that they had relied on using salted water to clean and cook it in the past.

Israeli forces announced on Sunday that they would allow “basic amounts of food” to enter Gaza. According to the military, the reason was the fact that Gaza’s “starcion crisis” “puts operations at risk.”

The next day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu showed that Israel had taken a step as Western allies, including the United States, threatened to withdraw their support for the country if Gaza allowed them to descend on starvation.

But only five trucks were allowed on Monday, but the humanitarian organisation said 500 people a day are needed just to feed those who need it the most. UN Aid Chief Tom Fletcher described the delivery as “a fall in the ocean of urgent needs.”

Hunger is becoming devastating. Gaza’s health ministry said at least 57 children have died from the effects of malnutrition since the start of the war.

Yana’s baby nie Janato was one of them, her family says.

We will wait on May 20, 2025 to see if water can be collected at camps for refugees in Gaza.

Janath was born small and weighed only 2.6 kilograms (5 lb 12 ounces), but her mother Aya told CNN that the baby girl is growing and gaining weight. She became a healthy baby and weighed about 4 kilograms (8 pounds 13 ounces). She learned to smile, she was on guard.

However, things changed when Janat was six weeks old.

On March 2, Israel imposed a complete lockdown on Gaza, preventing even the most basic supplies, including baby formulas and medication, from entering the strip.

Aya said that when food became scarce, she began to struggle with breastfeeding to Janath, who began to lose weight. The baby developed chronic diarrhea, became dehydrated, and soon became very poor and needed to see a doctor.

“(In the hospital) they said there was a special medical milk that would help her gain weight and stop diarrhea, but we couldn’t find it. We searched Gaza, hospitals, pharmacies by pharmacies.

A CNN video for Janath in mid-April shows the little baby wrapped around and Aya holds tightly. Her tiny face is all bones under the skin, and she looks more like a newborn than she was four months old. Her long skinned fingers stick out from the blanket, making her look sleepy. Her big brown eyes are the only part of her tired body that appears to be able to move, and she has her gaze following those moving around around her.

At the same time, Janath’s mother was also struggling, weakening to lack of food and clean water. Like many new mothers in Gaza in these conditions, she lost milk. According to a report by unsupported hunger, roughly 11,000 pregnant women in Gaza are already at risk of hunger, and pregnant women and breastfeeding women will need emergency care for acute malnutrition over the coming months.

Janath continued to get worse. Her mother told CNN that the baby began to struggle to maintain her temperature, and doctors told her blood sugar was dangerously low. Her oxygen levels were dropping. Malnutrition caused the kidneys and liver to malfunction, resulting in acidic blood.

“I begged the whole world to save her. I wanted someone to save her and provide her with the milk she needed. But no one could help. Everyone was watching.”

Janath’s mother told CNN that hospital doctors recommended Janath for medical evacuation abroad. The family even managed to obtain the necessary documents, including referrals and permission for Janat to leave.

But before that could be possible, the baby girl passed away on May 4th. At four months old, she was only 2.8 kilograms (6 lb 3 ounces), barely more than her birth weight.

Medical evacuation from Gaza is even rarer since Israel resumed military operations after the collapse of the ceasefire in March.

The World Health Organization said last week that around 12,000 patients in Gaza needed medical evacuation, and only 123 people have been evacuated since the lockdown was imposed in March.

The day after the baby’s death, flicking through a photo of Janat, Yana was shed tears and upset. “They said they couldn’t treat her unless she traveled abroad. We waited and said ‘Saturday’ and ‘Sunday’.

Israel launched a devastating new ground in Gaza over the weekend

After 18 months of war, every aspect of Jana’s life is full of difficulties.

She has too little food, too little water to drink, and there is no school to go to school, and there is no safe space to sleep. There is no electricity and the place she calls her home is a half-destroyed home in Gaza City. The walls are burning black from the fire.

Yana lived in a house where water came from the faucet and the light appeared on the flick of the switch. There was food, there was a school, there was a dance performance, during which she and her friends were the centre of attention, dressing in matching outfits and dancing when everyone applauded.

The family video at the event looks similar to others filmed by the proud parents of the child performing in public. It was a little unstable and I zoomed in as Jana flew around.

Seeing it in the destruction surrounded by bombed houses and mountains of rubb, the footage appears to come from another universe.

“No one remains for me. I feel like I’m dead,” the 12-year-old told CNN that tears tumble down her cheek. “Emotionally, I’m dead.”

Yana’s large family was destroyed by war. She is afraid to lose her brother, stepbrother, cousin, nie and her mother, who currently suffers from thyroid cancer that cannot be treated in Gaza.

Over the past 18 months, more than 53,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war, killing about 4% of the strip’s population, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. This means that every 40 people who lived in Gaza before the war, one person dies.

But when survival is very hard, there is little time to grieve them.

On May 12, the day before CNN last met with Jana, she managed to find food to buy: 50 grams of pasta ($15).

Like many families in Gaza, they try to ground pasta in flour to make bread and make it lasts for a long time. Gaza has been out of flour for a long time.

The next day, when a nearby community kitchen picks up supplies, a large number of children will gather within minutes.

They watch every move of the worker and are eagerly waiting for the moment when the food is ready.

It’s clear that it’s not enough for everyone. So the kids are trying to get to the best of places, reaching their arms as close to the front as possible, and trying to get the attention of those who are desperately distributing their meals. Some people scream and cry.

Jana is lucky. Two scoops of pasta with a land of watery tomato sauce in her bathtub. She looks exhausted and hungry, but she is happy.

She doesn’t touch it when she walks home in a tub of steamed food. Until she returns home to where her hungry brother, Nie and ne, are waiting.

Then just share it with them, and Jana allows herself to shove.

Britain suspends Israeli trade talks against New Gaza attacks

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel will control the entire Gaza.

play

  • Since the beginning of March, Israel has blocked medical, food and fuel supplies invasions in Gaza, with international experts warning of looming hunger.
  • The Israeli attacks “contradict the principles that underpin our bilateral relations,” British Foreign Secretary David Lamy told lawmakers.

LONDON – The UK suspended free trade talks with Israel on Tuesday, summoning its ambassador and announced further sanctions on Jordanian Riverside settlers after Kiel’s Prime Minister said he was terrified by Gaza’s military escalation.

Israeli forces announced the launch of a new operation last week, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying Israel will control the entire Gaza.

Since the beginning of March, Israel has blocked medical, food and fuel supplies invasions in Gaza, with international experts warning of looming hunger.

Foreign Minister David Lamy said the attack was not a way to bring the remaining hostages into the house, calling for Israel to end the aid lockdown and denounced what some sections of the Israeli government called “extremism.”

“We cannot stand up to this new degradation, which is incompatible with the principles that underpin our bilateral relations,” Ramy told lawmakers.

“Frankly, it’s a humiliation for the values of the British people. So today I am announcing that I have suspended negotiations on this new free trade agreement with the Israeli government.”

The UK on Monday in a joint statement with France and Canada denounced Israel’s expansion of military operations in Gaza and called for the lifting of aid restrictions.

The trio said they would take “more concrete actions” if the fresh Israeli attacks don’t stop.

“Today, we want to record the horrifying escalation from Israel,” the star told Congress on Tuesday.

“We will repeatedly demand a ceasefire as the only way to free hostages, repeat opposition to settlements on the West Bank, and reiterate our demands for a significant expansion of humanitarian assistance to Gaza.”

The UK has also approved many individuals and groups on the West Bank whom it said was linked to violence against Palestinians.

The move comes after Britain imposed sanctions on many settlers and settler organizations in 2024, targeting individuals and groups who said they sponsored violence against the Palestinian community in the West Bank.

Most countries view Jewish settlements built on land occupied by the 1967 Middle East War as illegal, and their expansion has been one of the most controversial issues among Israel, the Palestinians and the international community for decades.

“We are once again demonstrating that we will continue to act against those who are committing the violent abuse of human rights,” Rammy said.

Israel’s ground and air force destroyed Gaza, expelling almost all 2.3 million residents and killing more than 53,000 people, according to Gaza Health Authorities.

Netanyahu said his country was engaged in a “civilisation war over wild barrage,” and vowed to “continue to protect itself by mere means until it is complete victory.”

Should the NFL ban tash pushing? NFL expert discussion

0

play

Some say more than others when it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles’ infamous “tash push.”

The Eagles make a living from playing that signature with many nicknames. In 2024, they led the controversy to a Super Bowl victory. It was enough to reinforce the conversation.

That became especially true when Sean Hochurri led his inner, annoyed principal and told the Washington commander he could award the Eagles an NFC Championship Game score.

Like kids in the playground during a break, some NFL teams have learned that life is not fair and they are ready to do something about it.

Some tried, but almost all failed to replicate the successes pioneered by Jalen Hurts, Jason Kelce and Nick Sirianni. The Green Bay Packers have chosen to present a case to ban controversial plays, and NFL owners are scheduled to vote for their fate this week.

The question is, should it be banned? Does “Tush Push” rise to the level of annoying things like stupid Bandz and Fidget Spinners? Is it as dangerous as old-fashioned dodgeball or books caught up in hot political debate?

NFL experts at USA TODAY SPORTS will present cases of “brother’s protrusions” and whether the play should be banned.

Nate Davis

I was able to vote against push plays, but in the future, when I reached the point that it was essentially the whole auto-conversion league, as was the extra point that came about when it was a 20-yard kick. But now? Stopping it in that moment feels like a revenge against the Super Bowl champion Eagles.

After all, the NFL is just a copycat league when you can copy cats, but the Eagles assume they are unparalleled. And I was around them enough to know how they felt.

Pro Bowl Guard Landon Dickerson said he was basically a modified quarterback sneak, so legislating it from the game is problematic.

Left tackle Jordan Meertata told me after Washington Commander’s NFC Championship Game loss last season.

As for concepts, it is dangerous despite a total lack of data supporting that theorem. Is Tush Push going to argue that for him or the defender, he’s more full of physical risk than RB Saquon Barkley barreling towards the goal line where his body is packed full speed?

Do you want my vote to kill Tash’s push? Are you okay. Bring a better case than you’ve seen before. Until then? Stop the Eagles. Or mimic them normally.

Vote: Keep it!

Tyler Dragon

It’s a bit refreshing to see the NFL consider rules that help them defend, as most of the NFL rules seem to respond to attacks and develop defenses. But Tush Push is not a play the NFL should be outlawed.

According to ESPN, the Eagles have had an 86% success rate since launching the Tash Push in 2022. The NFL average is 76%. The success rate is high in short yard situations, but the play is unstoppable.

I’ve all been a little more physical (and still remains safe) on both sides of football. There is no evidence to suggest that Tush Push is a dangerous game. But it’s physical play in NFL games and it’s no longer physical.

Vote: Keep it!

Tom Viera

The Eagles are one of 32 teams with a competitive advantage in this play. According to the following Gen Stats, in 2024, 28 of the 34 “Tush Push” attempts were successfully executed. The other teams are preparing for play, but they can’t stop it yet.

It’s bad for business because it’s bad for entertainment value. Imagine in a few years if all 32 teams have learned to run “Tush Push” successfully. How about that?

Dust the traditional QB sneakers completed by Tom Brady. Tom Brady never gains the same level of rage and never hates “Tush Push.” If the play is banned, Jalen will hurt, and the Eagles may navigate this situation better than many would expect.

Vote: No!

Jack McKessey

The Green Bay Packers’ suggestion to ban plays reads like a kid in a tutletail on a playground that is not included in the latest tag game.

“If that’s the case I You can’t have fun, and then no one should. ”

All 32 teams can perform the exact same play if they choose the same way. There are no “secrets” or “hidden methods,” but the other 31 teams have not tried it yet.

So, Occam’s Razor will say that the Eagles will only perform better quarterback sneak plays than all other teams, and that none of the other teams can effectively execute their own “Tush Push.” It’s a copycat league, but why has this play not been copied effectively in the three years since it was introduced?

It goes without saying that the poor language of the current proposal leaves plenty of room for loopholes and liberal interpretations. And if the rules change I’ll do it Passing, the Eagles and other teams will find these loopholes and come up with other ways to perform effective plays in short yard situations.

Prohibiting play, which only one of the 32 teams has been using effectively and consistently for three years, is like listening to the aforementioned tutletail kids and banning tag games on Recess. The rest of the kids just find other ways to have fun.

Vote: Keep it!

Ayrton Ostly

Winning consistently in the NFL is tough. There are so many ways to find small margins that make a difference each week. Teams should not be punished to find benefits with personnel.

The Eagles have one of the best offensive lines in the league and have a strong runner at quarterback. Leveraging a trench is not a new concept. Philadelphia is better than other teams due to their unique talent on the roster.

Angryly complaining to the teacher (in this case, the NFL) and one child is banned from playing the game just because they are unable to accurately recreate or defeat the game. Find a way to win. Other NFL teams need to keep up with doing it themselves and/or invest in better ways to fight it defensively.

Vote: Keep it!

Nick Blinkerhoff

Death, taxes, and the first down of “Tush Push” is not the only guaranteed in life.

Yes, the other teams failed, but what if they didn’t move forward? Do you want to live in a world where players have acquired Chush? Think about the kids – and the games left behind.

As it is said, some tend to ruin it for the rest. In this case, it’s the Eagles. Careless or not, they pushed the envelopes too far, and their play became too much talked about. It’s very similar to a local restaurant where big celebrities are noticed. You are happy with their revenue and success, but are troubled by a 20-minute wait of 40 and the items on the menu are sold out.

Sometimes there are too many good things, and the Eagles may learn how to do that. “Tush Push” must go.

Vote: No!

Joe Rivera

Just like DJ Khaled, the Eagles struggle with success.

Is it fair to punish Philadelphia for being too good at playing? Probably not. However, unlike the NFL reactionary and party nature of NFL rules changes, it is better to go ahead of this until the league cracks the code that makes the “tash push” make the dern near the auto.

Certainly not all of the other 31 squads have world-class offensive lines and quarterbacks that can crouch down Volkswagen, and at least a small percentage hasn’t been so for a long time.

But as a fan, do you want to wait until the point where the other teams are pushing their quarterbacks more on the majority of Sunday than the other teams? Want to see drama and suspense sucked out of critical short yard situations? It doesn’t sound like an interesting product to watch.

The Eagles’ success could not be reproduced with “Tush Push.” That doesn’t mean that the league will never do that. I’d like to know what it looks like on NFL Sunday.

Vote: No!

The final tally

Please keep it: 4 votesProhibited: 3 votes

Iran’s top leader says it’s unlikely that US-Iran talks will be successful

0

CNN
–

Iran’s top leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said he does not expect negotiations with the US over Tehran’s nuclear program that “conclusion” will be reached when Washington tightens its terms of deal.

“In the days of (former President Ebrahim) Reisi, there were also indirect negotiations that didn’t happen, and now we doubt we’ll reach a conclusion.

Khamenei made a call The US demands that Iran do not enrich uranium “big mistakes.” Tehran does not wait for US permission. Addressing the American negotiators, he added: “Don’t speak any nonsense.”

American officials have sent mixed signals about whether Iran would allow uranium to be enriched domestically under the nuclear agreement. Uranium is a nuclear fuel that can be used to generate bombs when enriched to high levels.

Iran claims it has the right to enrich under the UN Treaty on Nuclear Non-Proliferation (NPT) and says it will not waive it under any circumstances.

US President Donald Trump threatened to attack Iran if he disagrees with a nuclear deal, but he did not expressly rule out his right to enrich uranium when he repeated the threat last week on a trip to the Middle East.

However, US special envoy Steve Witkoff told the ABC over the weekend that “Washington cannot even allow 1% of its fulfillment capacity” as he had led the American delegation into consultations and had previously suggested that Iran would be allowed to enrich uranium. “We’ve provided suggestions to the Iranians, but I think we’re working on some of these without underestimating them,” he said.

Iran’s Deputy Minister Majid Takt Ravanch was quoted as saying in Iran’s Noor news on Monday that if Washington claimed Tehran had abandoned enrichment, nuclear talks with the US “really won’t reach anywhere.”

Iran and the US held fourth round of talks in Oman earlier this month aimed at restraining Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. Iran’s Foreign Ministry described these consultations as “difficult.”

Witkov said there could be a next round of talks in Europe this week. “I hope that leads to some real positivity,” he added.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Aragci said on Tuesday that Iran has been provided with a date for the next consultation but has yet to accept it.

When asked how negotiations have been going on so far, he jokingly said that both sides are still fighting.

  • JCPenney closed seven stores nationwide on Sunday, May 25th.
  • JCPenney filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May 2020. Earlier this year, the company closed more than 200 US locations.

Seven JCPenney stores across the country will be closing their doors forever this weekend.

The latest JCPenney closure, first announced in February, comes after more than 200 US locations in May 2020 where retailers filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protections were closed.

In January, JCPenney announced that it had partnered with Forever 21 to create a new company called Catalyst Brands. The merger also includes Brooks Brothers, Eepostall, Lucky Brand, Nautica and Eddie Bauer. Catalyst Brands was expected to open 1,800 store locations and employ 60,000 employees. A JCPenney spokesperson previously told USA Today that the store closure was not related to the Catalyst Brand merger.

A spokesman for Catalyst Brands previously told USA Today that roughly 9% of the company’s role has been reduced as its affiliates “optimize” its structure.

Liberty University pays Jerry Falwell Jr.

0

play

Liberty University will pay former president Jerry Falwell Jr. to settle the lawsuit after resignation in 2020 after a famous sexual scandal that attracted the public’s attention to private Christian facilities..

The settlement was announced in 2024, but neither Falwell nor Liberty shared details about what it includes – or there was no amount Falwell would be paid.

However, the university, deeply buried in the recently filed 2023-2024 tax form, revealed that it is paying millions of numbers to “settle certain claims and close certain transactions.” As part of the contract, Falwell agreed to pay the university $440,000, and settled “contested costs” between him and the university. Details regarding these claims are not included.

According to tax documents, Falwell will receive approximately $5.5 million to resolve the lawsuit in total.

Liberty University declined to comment. University spokesman Ryan Helfenbein instead directed reporters in a 2024 news release about the agreement, which stated that a statement beyond the settlement was “not necessary or constructive.” “Both the University Board of Trustees and Jerry Falwell Jr. genuinely regret the long and painful litigation process, and each takes responsibility for being involved in the conflict,” the release at the time said. “Falwell acknowledges and apologises for the mistakes made in the era of leadership. The board acknowledges and apologises for the mistakes and mistakes made on their part.”

Falwell also declined to comment on the details of the agreement, but said he was “very pleased with the outcome of the settlement negotiations and the final settlement.”

This settlement could mark the end of the embarrassing chapter of Liberty, one of the nation’s largest Christian universities. The school is proud to promote basic Bible values. For example, students prohibit sex or drinking alcohol outside of marriage (though that rule does not apply to online students on campus), following its honor code, Liberty Way.

Falwell took over from the university in 2007 after the death of the university’s father and founder, Rev. Jerry Falwell Sr. And he was one of the first evangelical leaders to support President Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election.

However, in August 2020, Falwell made the headline when he posted a photo of himself holding his arm around his wife’s assistant. He had a drink in his hand and both of their pants were unbuttoned. He quickly left.

He resigned a few weeks later, following news of a sexual scandal involving him, his wife, Becky Falwell and another man. Giancarlo Granda. He said Falwell was a participant in a multi-year relationship. Falwell describes it as his wife is cheating. Falwell told the Wall Street Journal about his departure at the time when he wanted what was best for the university.

Shortly after he left, Liberty began investigating his behavior at university. However, Falwell later sued the university for a loss of honor, but dropped it a few months later. Liberty then sued Falwell in 2021, claiming he had breached the contract. Falwell then filed two separate claims in 2023 – one for the retirement package and the other to the university for the use of the father’s image. As part of the ongoing conflict, Falwell and his wife were ultimately prohibited from entering campus.

However, by July 2024, Falwell and the University announced they would withdraw their claims. He was allowed back to campus and participated in the university’s return game. And Jerry Falwell Jr. no longer works in college, but his brother Jonathan Falwell is prime minister and head of the enormous Thomas Lord Baptist Church, also founded by senior Falwell.

In the meantime, the federal government under the Biden administration punished the university $16 million in 2024 for creating a culture on campus that students feared reporting sexual violence. The penalty included a $14 million fine, which required the university to spend $2 million “to improve safety and enhance compliance on campus.” The government also placed freedom on federal surveillance until April 2026. The university told the Justice Department recently that it felt it had unfairly targeted the Biden administration.

After the delay, the FDA will approve Novavax’s Covid-19 vaccine, but only for seniors and high-risk people.

0

After a six-week delay, the US Food and Drug Administration approved Novavax’s Covid-19 vaccine, according to a letter from the agency, but people over the age of 65 and above, and those over the age of 12 with at least one underlying condition, are at increased risk for severe illness.

“Market research and US CDC statistics show that older people and those with underlying conditions are the population most likely to seek Covid-19 vaccinations each season,” Novavax president and CEO John Jacobs said in a statement on Saturday. “This important milestone demonstrates our commitment to these populations and is an important step towards the availability of protein-based vaccine options.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US lists a wide range of conditions that can lead to severe illnesses due to Covid-19, including age, asthma, diabetes, lung disease, obesity, and pregnancy.

The Novavax Covid-19 vaccine, which uses traditional protein-based technology over Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna mRNA vaccines, has been subject to emergency use permits since 2022.

The Novavax vaccine was on track to fully approve April 1, but the FDA delayed the decision while seeking more data, sources told CNN. A new approval issued Friday requires vaccine recipients to implement Novavax to consider the risk of inflammation of myocarditis and pericarditis – inflammation of the membranes surrounding the myocardium and heart.

These conditions have not been reported after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A small number of cases have been reported in Novavax vaccine trials, suggesting an increased risk, the CDC notes. However, the CDC and the Advisory Committee on Vaccination Practices have said the rare risk of cardiac inflammation in all groups recommended for vaccination outweigh the benefits of Covid-19 vaccination.

CDC’s vaccine advisors are considering changing the agency’s guidance for those who should win the annual Covid-19 shot. At last month’s meeting, the committee discussed recommendations focusing on older people, people with weakened immune systems, and perhaps people who are more likely to be exposed to the coronavirus.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a secretary to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and a longtime anti-vaxious activist, mistakenly referred to the vaccine as a vaccine because of “the most deadly vaccine ever made,” and recently issued a misleading statement about the safety of a massive vaccine in the heart of West Texas.

HHS did not respond to requests for comment regarding Novavax approval.

The GOP tax bill could hurt the lowest earners, according to research

0

play

President Donald Trump says his tax bill, which won approval from a major Congressional committee on May 18, will lower taxes for all Americans.

It “increases the wages of a typical family takeaway by several thousand dollars a year,” Trump said on May 1.

It is true that certain Americans will see the earning of after-tax income if the bill is passed by certain Americans, but analysis from nonpartisan organizations suggests that top earners are the ones who get the most from these tax cuts.

“This is a bill that really leaps in the positive impact towards rich Americans,” said Martha Gimbel, executive director and co-founder of the Yale Budget Institute, the Center for Policy Research. “If you lose healthcare, lose snap benefits and have to pay more at tariffs, it really doesn’t matter if people at the bottom are getting relatively small tax cuts.”

What does the tax bill do?

The GOP tax plan, dubbed “One Big and Beautiful Bill,” will make the 2017 tax cuts permanent from his first term in office. The child tax credit will increase from $2,500 to $2,028 to $2,000 in the following years, with other tax cuts in place, including hints and no tax on overtime wages.

To help pay for the cuts, the government will make changes to reduce spending on the Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program, previously known as Food Stamps, to reduce Medicaid, a program that provides health insurance to more than 71 million low-income Americans.

Analysts say the bill should add between $3 trillion to $5 trillion in debt over the next decade. Moody’s ratings point to rising debt when it downgraded the country’s credit rating on May 16th.

The law is still far from the finish line. Passing the house’s gauntlets is expected to go through a floor vote in the committee and in the Senate. Policy details may be tweaked at any point along the way.

How will the tax bill affect Americans?

According to a new analysis of the Penn Wharton Budget Model, a nonpartisan research initiative, the profits of tax bills differ based on income.

The top 0.1% of income earners average nearly $390,000 in post-tax income in 2026, while Americans earning around $17,000 to $51,000 will lose about $700. People with less than $17,000 earnings on average lose more than $1,000. The findings take into account lower spending on programs such as Medicaid and SNAP.

Another analysis of Yale Budget Lab in March found similar results. The lowest incomes will decrease after tax and moved income by 5% when considering spending cuts, while the top earners will increase by about 3%.

According to Gimbel, Budget Lab is working on updating its analysis, but does not expect any major changes to its findings.

Rising prices from tariffs only exacerbate the problem of low-income households, Gimbel said. Previous reports from the Budget Lab found that households with the lowest incomes feel the biggest blow from tariffs in the short term, especially in the short term, as they spend most of the income of products that increase in price.

“It’s a brutal one-two punch, frankly, for lower and middle-income families,” Zimbel said.

Will tax cuts create a stronger economy?

When it reached the comment, the White House pointed to a May report from the Council of Economic Advisors, an agency that provides presidential advice on economic issues, by which tax cuts strengthen the economy and drive income and wages.

The CEA says, “All Americans benefit.” A typical family with two children is expected to see take-away wages increase from $7,800 to $13,300 due to increased wages and reduced taxes.

The report notes that take-out salary figures will be notified by a tax committee estimate. A May 13 report from the organization suggests that some of the lowest-earning Americans will face higher federal taxes under the proposed tax bill.

Another analysis from the Penn Wharton budget model, taking into account Medicaid and SNAP spending cuts, shows that the tax bill written on May 19 will increase by 7.2%, with average wages falling “slightly” over the next decade, with GDP 0.5% higher than current law.

The analysis shows that changes in programs such as Medicaid and SNAP will drive changes in programs such as Medicaid and SNAP, prompting lower-income Americans to increase working hours and savings. Overall, the top 10% of income distributions currently paying about 70% of federal taxes will receive about 65% of the total amount of the tax bill.

“Overall, there is economic growth. Supporting low-income households is not enough because they come from them.

Trump Tax Bill Supreme Court Venezuelan Immigrants Severe Weather Kentucky Karen Reads WNBA

0

good morning!🙋🏼‍♀️I’m Nicole Forelt, I would like to have some espresso with iced hochata oat milk shaking.

Take a quick look at Tuesday’s news:

Will President Trump’s tax bill help all Americans?

President Donald Trump’s tax bill won approval from major Congressional committees over the weekend. He argues that it will cut taxes for all Americans. It is true that certain Americans will see the profits of their post-tax income if the bill is passed, but analysis from nonpartisan organizations suggests that top earners are the ones who get the most from these tax cuts. A rise in prices from tariffs only exacerbates the problem of low-income households.

Supreme Court tells Trump to make Venezuelan immigrants in immigrants in a protected status for now

In an unsigned order, the Supreme Court said the Trump administration could move to strip more than 300,000 Venezuelan immigrants of temporary protected positions.

background: In March, US District Judge Edward Chen in Northern California blocked the administration from abruptly terminating a program that allowed Venezuelan immigrant populations to temporarily live and work in the United States due to their country’s living conditions. The lower court said the government could not identify any real harm in maintaining the program while immigrants were challenging its end.

  • But now the lower court order has been lifted. Immigration advocates say many people could be deported before the case is fully filed.
  • Why it matters to Americans: The immigration lawyer described the order as “the greatest single action to strip the non-citizen group of immigrant status in modern history.”
  • What does this mean for Trump’s strategy: The judges stepped out and blocked Trump’s most offensive policy scope. The open question is how –or — presidential policies can be blocked if the Supreme Court limits or abolishes court orders nationwide.

American women are trying to inherit trillions

Many young adults have fixed their hopes for a wealthy generation exchange, a massive transfer of wealth, which can pass $84 trillion from older Americans to children and other beneficiaries. But first, trillions of dollars transfer from one spouse to another within the same generation. Most often, from dying husband to surviving wife. Between 2024 and 2048, an estimated $54 trillion will be handed over from one spouse to another, not from a child or grandchild. If you are lending a bank to inheritance, you may have to wait.

Counting a few seconds with the Current Lead Trial

As the case entered the fifth week of witness testimony, the prosecutors took digital forensics experts to lay out a timeline where Karen could be held responsible for the death and the death of her police officer boyfriend. It relied on clock data from Read’s vehicle and John O’Keefe’s phone, as well as a time frame of about 10 seconds. The timeline suggests that Lexus in the lead may have hit O’Keefe during the backup. However, Reid’s lawyers argue that she was framed for death in an elaborate plot considered by Massachusetts police officers.

Emily Kisser’s son’s death shows how influencers lack privacy

0

play

Millions of Emily Kisser’s social media followers had sent prayers about the drowsing incident involving the three-year-old before police confirmed it was her son.

On May 18, Trigg, the son of a 26-year-old influencer, died a few days after he was unconsciously pulled from a backyard pool in Chandler, Arizona, and was killed at Chandler Police Department’s public relations officer.

Kiser has not been spoken publicly before the May 12 accident. However, within hours of the 3-year-old Trigg’s hospitalization, speculation began to swirl online.

“If the rumors about Emily Kiser are true, I’d actually get sick,” one person wrote to X on May 15th. A few days before the child’s identity was confirmed.

The tragedy and the online rumors surrounding it underscore the lack of influence in modern privacy.

The internet appears to connect photos of Emily Kiser with her house

All speculation around Kaiser’s son appears to come from photos from local news articles.

KPNX 12News, a local television news station based in Phoenix, Arizona, reported on the death of his 3-year-old child on May 12th.

The article was accompanied by photos from outside the home where the incident occurred, and promptly sparked online speculation that Kiser’s son was involved, according to a social media post.

Kiser never shared her address online, but some users cross-referenced the home’s previous real estate listings and the house image in the story.

Kiser’s Tiktoks showing her home in the background coincided closely with the images in the listing, and many believed it happened in her home.

“I’ll be here when I’m ready.”

In subsequent eras, Kiser’s name was one of the most searched terms on Google.

According to a review of Columbia Journalism, a social media feed where people closely track influencer’s online activities – Kaiser has a social media feed that has become private until further notices “before family.”

The 26-year-old, who posted multiple times a day on social media prior to the incident, has not updated his account since May 12th.

But in the meantime, her views and followers have continued to grow, with the recent video having received over 36 million views as of May 20th.

Even before Kaiser’s son is confirmed to be involved with the child, the comments are flooded with messages of support.

“We’re here when you’re ready, we love you!” one commenter wrote on May 18th.

From May 17th another person said, “Literally every comment here should just pray, in every respect.”

Influencers are “a lot easier to use than celebrities,” the professor says

Popular influencers like Kiser develop close connections with their followers through parasocial relationships. This is according to a 2024 survey that “the fantastical interaction between social media users and influencers consumes influencer content.”

Parasocial relationships have historically been applied to the attachments fans have with celebrities.

But social media influencers are offering their companions to connect with the people of John Powers, an assistant professor of interactive media and design at Quinnipiac University.

“The idea is that I feel like this is the average person you live in a normal house and lives like me because the social media influencer could be me,” Powers said. “But they lose that separation when they have millions of followers and people who are constantly checking in.”

However, unlike celebrities, Powers said that when influencers both overlap, they must maintain a balance between their professional and personal lives.

“Part of their appeal is that they’re normal and they want to be inside their homes and show you your average kitchen, your average living room, your average backyard, and more,” Powers said. “It can be important to make sure the information you see is very general.”

In cases like Kiser’s, when tragedy hits, Powers said that social media users shouldn’t remember that not everything unfolds online.

“I think that people are misled – they’re invited into her life, but it’s certainly her public life. It’s her influencer’s life, she has a private life too,” Powers said. “And as consumers of that kind of connection, we sometimes get fooled by being actually closer to us than we really think.”

Trigg Kaiser’s death is still under investigation, police say

The CPD is investigating the situation regarding the case, WASU said on May 18th.

Additional details will not be published until the investigation is complete.

“Our idea and deepest pathos are with our children’s families and loved ones in this unimaginable time,” WASU said.

Jyoti Malhotra: Indian Youtuber who recorded his trip to Pakistan

0

CNN
–

Indian police arrested a travel blogger on suspicion of spying for Pakistan as tensions between the two countries continued to cause conflict between the two neighbors.

Influencer Jyoti Malhotra from northern Haryana has been accused of sharing sensitive information with Pakistan, police officers told reporters.

While arrests in India and Pakistan on suspicion of spying are not uncommon, the Malhotra incident has sparked widespread interest and the fear of all-out war as it comes days after the two countries have fought the most intense conflict in decades.

Police allegedly had been in touch with the Pakistani intelligence operative who had groomed her to become an “asset” in Islamabad. Police allege that Malhotra continued to communicate with operatives during the fatal four-day battle earlier this month.

“She is a travel blogger and during interrogation it was revealed that she fell into a trap by pursuing the content of the viewers, followers and viruses,” Principal Shashank Kumar Sawan said.

Sawan also claimed that Malhotra had been in Pakistan on a “sponsored trip” and that he was in touch with other YouTube influencers who were in touch with Pakistani intelligence agents.

She had no direct access to defense and military intelligence, police said.

CNN contacted the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and attempted to contact Malhotra. She has not been formally charged with any crime.

Malhotra’s father told reporters he was unaware of his daughter’s trip and was making small videos at home. Previously, he told reporters he went to Pakistan after obtaining the necessary permission.

Before this month’s conflict, Pakistanis and Indians were able to travel to each other’s countries, but it was extremely difficult to obtain a visa due to government bureaucracy and historical distrust.

Tensions between India and Pakistan skyrocketed in the aftermath of the Indian-controlled tourist genocide in Kashmir in April.

Islamabad has denied claims that India is blaming Pakistan for its attacks. For four days, the two neighbors exchanged missiles, drones and artillery fires – killing dozens on each side before reaching a ceasefire.

Both sides have since claimed victory, and in the aftermath of the enthusiasm of the short-term conflict, Indian and Pakistani media coverage has seen high levels of nationalist vitriol and exaggeration.

Malhotra posted a travel video to her YouTube channel, which boasts around 400,000 subscribers. Several videos posted in March depict a trip to Pakistan. Pakistan can be seen employing public transport, exploring local markets and visiting the largest Hindu temple in the country with the majority of Muslims.

Malhotra described himself on YouTube as a “nomad wanderer” and posted videos of his trip to Indonesia in the United Arab Emirates and Bali in Dubai.

Speaking to reporters, police questioned how Malhotra funded her trip. “We are analyzing her financial details… Her travel details ignore her source of income,” Sawan argued.

Her arrest is one of several recent cases where Indians are suspected of spying on Pakistan’s behalf.

Police in northern Punjab arrested two people on Monday who allegedly “learn sensitive military information” to Pakistan.

The two men have been accused of “sharing classified details” related to Indian military operations in Pakistan, and share “strategic locations” in Kashmir led by Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and India, police said in a statement from X.

Police are investigating whether an individual is violating India’s official secret law. If convicted, they could face the maximum life sentence in prison.

Do you still need the minimum distribution you need? Where to put cash.

0

play

For many retirees, 73 is a magical age. You must start withdrawing the required minimum distribution (RMD) from your retirement account. Retirements born after 1960 began taking RMD until the age of 75. But what will you do if you don’t do that? need Still money? Here are five ideas.

1. Reinvestment

There is no rule that you cannot withdraw funds from your retirement account and reinvest anywhere else immediately. Here are some common options:

  • Dividend Stocks and ETFs
  • Real estate investment
  • Local bonds
  • Taxable intermediary accounts

2. Make a qualified charitable donation (QCD)

If you are over 70 years old and need to obtain an RMD from a traditional individual retirement account (IRA), you can arrange to make a direct donation to your chosen qualifying 501(c)(3) organization. Not only do you feel good about your decision, but you too:

  • Enjoy the tax deduction as the amounts donated are excluded from taxable income.
  • Meet some or all of the RMD requirements for that year.

3. Convert to Ross IRA

If you withdraw money from your pre-tax retirement account, like in 401(k), consider the benefits of converting that money to a Roth IRA. It is important to remember that you will need to pay taxes on pre-tax withdrawals, and Roth IRA contributions are subject to income restrictions. Still, you may find benefits that outweigh these two points. There are several benefits associated with converting cash from a pre-tax account to a Roth IRA, including:

  • Withdrawal from the Roth IRA is tax-free.
  • The Roth IRA does not have an RMD.
  • A Ross IRA can be handed over to heirs tax-free.

4. Buy life insurance

It’s easy to think of life insurance as something you only need during the year of work where your loss of income is harmful to the people you love. But have you thought about how life insurance can help your loved ones after you die? Some of the reasons why retirees buy life insurance are:

  • Covers the final cost
  • Pay off your debts after your death
  • Leave money to your family and charities
  • Help the beneficiaries pay inheritance tax or any other fees they may encounter after you are gone.

5. The worst plan

It may be established as long as you may be retired, but you never know what’s around the corner. It could be something as simple as a storm that will blow your area and incorporate scary things like parts of your roof or serious medical issues. In either case, you need money. Unless you have a large emergency savings account, consider using your spare RMD dollars to pack into that emergency fund.

who knows? You may move on in a few years and realize that there is more to emergency savings than you need and plan a new cash plan. In the meantime, you know that you will cover yourself (and your path may come).

Having more money than you need is a luxury. Take the time you need to determine where your money can do the greatest good for you and those you care about around you.

Most US companies say they need to raise prices due to Trump’s tariffs | Trump’s tariffs

0

The majority of US companies say prices need to be raised to meet Donald Trump’s tariffs in the US, according to the new report.

Over half (54%) of US companies surveyed by insurance company Allianz said prices need to be raised to accommodate the costs of tariffs. Of the 4,500 companies in nine countries surveyed by Allianz, including the US, the UK and China, only 22% said they could absorb the increase in costs.

The unpredictability of US trade policies also undermines exporters’ trust. The survey found that when Trump announced his tariff policies, he was expected to see sales fall by -2% to -10% over the next 12 months, compared to under 5% before the April 2nd “liberation date.”

Trump has pulled back many of the taxes he originally proposed, but major duties are maintained, including a 10% universal tariff on all US imports, a 30% tariff on Chinese imports, and additional tariffs on certain industries such as metal parts and auto parts.

Trump has argued that tariffs will make America “very rich,” but it appears that American businesses and consumers are expecting to pay higher prices as tariffs become more entrenched. In April, consumer expectations for inflation reached their highest point since 1981, according to the University of Michigan Institute of Social Studies.

Instead of quickly raising prices that could thwart customers, many companies have spent months trying to get ahead of Trump’s tariffs by stockpiling products to temporarily avoid them.

Eight of the 10 American companies said they put their shipments to China on the front line before Trump announced his tariffs, with 25% saying they launched Front Road before the November 2024 election.

Inflation data for April showed that US price increases remained near the level of the month. Economists say it will take some time for tariff-related price increases to appear in the data, and businesses are beginning to say they will hand over some of the tariff costs to consumers.

“Given the magnitude of the tariffs, even the levels announced this week, we can’t absorb all the pressure,” Walmart CEO Doug McMillion said in a revenue call last week. “The higher the tariff, the higher the price.”

Toymaker Mattel also said it would need to raise prices and would continue to manufacture products outside of the US.

The majority of companies (60%) in the report expect tariffs to have a negative impact on businesses, and say they expect exports to grow aggressively this year, down from 80%, who said the same thing at the beginning of the year.

Many companies are on the verge of rising prices, relying on stockpiled stocks and hoping to reach trade deals soon, but if the trade war continues, companies will need to raise prices in the summer.

“Monthly business research … shows that businesses will ultimately take over the majority of the tariff increase by summer,” said Maxine Darmet, senior economist at Allianz Trade.

Qatar dismisses concerns over the provision of aircraft to Trump

DOHA, May 20 (Reuters) – Qatar has rejected concerns over the offer to give President Donald Trump a Boeing BA.N plane.

Qatar Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani reiterated on Tuesday that the offer was “normal things happening among allies” and that the Gulf Arab state is a reliable partner of the United States.

He said he doesn’t know why people viewed gifts as bribery and how Qatar can buy influence with the Trump administration.

“But I want even the American people and politicians across the board to see us as friends, partners, and trustworthy partners who were there for the US whenever we needed,” he told the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha.

US Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer introduced the “Presidential Air Transport Security Act” after News Trump planned to accept a $400 million plane from Qatar.

Trump shrugged ethical concerns and said it was “silly” to turn down a generous offer.

Modifying the luxurious Boeing BA.N 747-8 plane provided by Qatar’s royal family requires security upgrades, improved communications, and equipment to prevent spies from listening and dodge incoming missiles.

Trump said the Boeing 747-8 would eventually be donated to his presidential library – a residential research material from his administration, and he said he had no plans to use it for personal reasons after taking office.

During a visit to Doha on Wednesday, Boeing won the biggest contract for widebody aircraft when Qatar Airlines, the provincial airline, ordered firmly from the 160 Jetliners and got the option to buy another 50.
