China has launched an ambitious mission to study two interesting objects in our solar system.

The Tianwen-2 mission launched the long March 3B rocket from the Xichang satellite launch centre in Sichuan province at 1:31pm on Wednesday (1:31am on Thursday in China), according to the National Space Agency of China.

Like Tianwen-1, it was lifted in July 2020 with two purposes: delivering Orbiter and Rover to Mars. Tianwen-2 has two goals.

The initial goal of the mission is to fly around and collect the country’s first samples from the asteroid. Space Rock called Camooarewa Or, Asteroid 2016 HO3 could be a chunk of chunks from the moon that has become “quasi-satellites” near our planet. The spacecraft will fly to asteroids for a year, and another year will assess potential landing sites in orbit.

After dropping these samples of Earth through capsules at about 2½ A few years from now, the mission takes seven years to reach an unusual object called the main belt comet 311p/pan-starrs and perform a flyby. Sometimes called active asteroids, celestial objects orbit between Mars and Jupiter, producing dusty comet-like tails.

Astronomers first discovered the Camooarewa in 2016 using the Hawaiian Panoramic Survey Telescope, or the Pan Star, Pan Stars. Ben Sharkey, a visiting senior faculty expert at the University of Maryland College Park, led a study published in November 2021, suggesting that it could be a massive boulder that was emitted from the moon due to impacts.

The name Kamooarewa comes from Hawaiian creations that suggest descendants traveling by themselves.

It will be the smallest asteroid visited between 150 and 190 feet (46-58 meters) in diameter, said Dr. Patrick Michel, director of the research facilities at the French National Centre for Science and Technology. Camooarewa is a semi-satellite, a type of nearby asteroid that orbits the Sun but sticks close to Earth, and comes within about 9 million miles (14.5 million kilometers).

“Ben Sharkey didn’t think there was a lump of the moon in space near the Earth until we saw it reflecting light like the moon,” Kareta said. “The moon is covered with craters, but who knew that the violent formation of these craters could throw tennis court-sized rocks?

Kamooarewa’s research and sampling could help astronomers determine whether the space rock actually originated from the moon, or whether it similarly reflects light, Kareta said. Kareta is also involved in a study led by Sharkey, and will be studying Kamoooalewa in more detail next year using James Webb Space Telescope.

“If it’s actually from the moon, we might be able to identify other moon samples with similar properties, which will help us know where it came from on the moon,” Kareta said. “It looks like the moon, but if it’s actually coming from somewhere else, the sample promotes a fundamentally informed search of where the Camooarewa actually came from.”

Missions can also shed light on asteroids that can cause damage if they hit the Earth. The camooarewa is comparable in size to the objects that destroyed tungskas in Siberia more than a century ago, Michel said.

Space Rock 311p/Pan-Starrs is one of the most studied active asteroids, Kareta said.

“Even just (25) years ago, we didn’t know there were any active asteroids. Scientists thought that only icy comets from the outer solar system could produce comet-like tails, but we also found that dozens of asteroids don’t have many ice,” Kareta said.

Astronomers have come up with many hypotheses about why objects throw dust, including the idea that the presence of pressure pockets that drain material and that other objects can affect 311p/pan-starrs and release elements, Michelle said.

Flying an active asteroid can accurately show the process of creating dusty tails streaming from objects, potentially revealing the possibility that even scientists have not considered it.

“This is the first time such an object has been observed up close and we can determine which mechanism (there may be other mechanisms) drives the activity,” Michelle said.

Data collected by Tianwen-2 could enhance extensive research into objects within the internal solar system, including mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars and the asteroid belt, Kareta said.

“There’s an incredible amount that I don’t know about either object,” Kareta said. “I don’t think the spacecraft has never reached the target and at least some major surprises were found. I am sure some of the current understanding of either object is completely wrong.

Astronomers detected an astonishing celestial object that lasted for two minutes and emitted bright flashes of radio waves and x-rays that were repeated every 44 minutes.

With a fresh twist, the findings show that strong X-rays are associated with objects that may be long-term transient for the first time. Astronomers first discovered this mysterious new class of objects in 2022, but less than a dozen have been found so far.

“Long-term (radio) transients (LPT) are recently identified classes of space objects that emit bright flashes of radio waves every few minutes to hours,” said Dr Andy Wang, associate lecturer at Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy in Australia. “What are these objects and how they produce unusual signals remains a mystery.”

The object named Askap J1832-0911 is located approximately 15,000 light years from Earth, the same galaxy as the solar system.

X-ray emissions revealed by NASA’s Chandra X-Ray Observatory could be key to help astronomers understand more about the true nature of these interesting cosmic objects and their pulsating behavior.

“X-rays usually come from very hot and energetic environments, so their presence suggests something dramatic has happened to the object,” said Wang, lead author of a study reporting observations published in Journal Nature on Wednesday.

Long-term transients appear to be more energetic than previously thought to be able to produce X-rays with more energy than radio waves, Wang said.

Currently, researchers are trying to find the cause of radio waves and x-rays in Askap J1832-0911 that do not fit in a neat box due to classification.

First, the team thought that the object was a magnet, or a dense remaining remnant of a star with a very strong magnetic field, or a pair of stars containing highly magnetized dead stars called white d stars. But neither of these matched the bright, variable emissions of radio waves or X-rays at all, the researchers said.

“This object is different from what we saw before,” the king said. “Even these theories do not fully explain what we are observing. This finding may indicate a new type of physics or new model of stellar evolution.”

Astronomers have tracked the previous detection of a long-term temporary transition, announced in March, to a white dwarf closely orbiting the small, cool red star. The two stars are in orbit with each other so closely that the magnetic fields interact and emit long radio bursts.

The researchers detect visible and infrared signals corresponding to the observed signals, suggesting that they could belong to two different types of objects. Wang’s team did not make such an observation of Askap J1832-0911, he said.

Charlie Kilpatrick, co-author of the March study, is called The New Find “Exciting.” He did not participate in any new research.

“The nature of this source bridges the gap between the most extreme magnets and the white dwarfs, written by Kilpatrick, an assistant research professor at the Illinois Center for Astrophysics.

Wang said future x-ray observations could reveal more about the object, including the temperature and size that researchers can use to determine the source. However, the new detection has already changed the way Wang and his collaborators think about long-term transient signals.

Radio astronomers regularly scan the skies using the Australia Square Kilometer Array Pathfinder or Askap in Wajaliyamaji Country, Western Australia, and are run by the Australian Federal Institute of Scientific and Industry (CSIRO).

Wang and his collaborators first picked up a bright signal from the object in December 2023. The object then emitted a pulse of very bright radio waves in February 2024.

By chance, the Chandra X-ray Observatory pointed to something else, but once caught X-ray observations in the “crazy” bright stages of long-term transitions, Wang said.

“When I discovered Askap J1832-0911 emitted x-rays, it felt like I was finding a needle in the haystack,” Wang said. “Askap Radio Telescope has a wide field view of the night sky, but Chandra only observes a small portion of it. So we were fortunate that Chandra observed the same area of ​​the same night sky at the same time.”

Unlike the rapidly rotating neutron stars called pulsars that emit pulses from the last millisecond to a few seconds, Askap J1832-0911 regularly differs in radio waves and X-ray intensity every 44 minutes. The object also fell with X-ray and radio wave intensity. No x-rays were shown in observations made by Chandra six months later in August 2024.

The team also used Craco, or Coherent Radio Astronomy Core, Instrument, which was recently developed to detect mysterious high-speed radio bursts, or millisecond flashes of radio waves, and other heavenly phenomena. The instrument scans and processes data quickly to find bursts and zeroes its location.

“This is equivalent to sifting through an entire sandy beach and searching for one five-cent coin per minute,” said Dr. Keith Bannister, an astronomer and engineer at CSIRO.

However, Craco was also able to detect long radio pulses, helping the team determine that a burst of radio waves was being repeated. Other observations showed that X-rays were also repeated.

Data from telescopes in the US, South Africa and India and collaborators around the world have made extremely rare detection a truly global effort, Wang said.

As they move forward, Wang and his team continue to search for more objects that emit these long radio pulses.

“Finding one such object suggests the existence of more,” Dr Nandarea, a professor at the Institute of Space Sciences and professor at the Institute of Catalonia Space Research in Spain, said in a statement. “The discovery of their temporary X-ray emissions opens up new insight into their mystical nature.”

Healthy people who smoked marijuana regularly and consumed food in the THC layer, as well as cigarette smokers, showed signs of early cardiovascular disease.

“To my knowledge, it is the first study to see the effects of THC on human vascular function,” said Matthew Springer, senior research author, Matthew Springer, a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.

“We look at the window into the future and show early changes that could explain why smoking marijuana is associated with later heart disease,” Springer said. “The act of smoking and the THC itself seem to contribute in many ways to these changes.”

Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is a component of marijuana that provides high levels. Previous studies on mice have caused damage to blood vessels that provide oxygen to important organs after exposure to marijuana smoke, Springer said. However, it was unclear whether marijuana smoke would affect the human vascular system.

“We found that vascular function was reduced by 42% in marijuana smokers and 56% in THC eating users compared to non-users.” At the University of California, San Francisco said in an email.

The study shows only relevance, Springer said. “It’s just that we say that cannabis users have insufficient vascular function and that cannabis use is not a degraded vascular function,” he said in an email.

Dr. Andrew Freeman, director of cardiovascular prevention and wellness for Denver’s National Jewish Health, said the findings from Thc-Laced Edibles were astounding.

“Isn’t other forms of marijuana — tea, tincture, edible — as benign as you once thought?” said Freeman, who was not involved in the study. “Big research is needed to reach a better conclusion about this finding.”

A single layer of endothelial cells line up all blood vessels in the body. When functioning properly, these specialized cells release chemicals such as nitric oxide, which control the relaxation and contraction of the canal, and regulate blood flow. Healthy endothelial cells also play a role in local cell growth, helping to prevent blood clotting.

When endothelial cells become inflamed, plaque accumulation can increase the artery over time, leading to heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure. Damage to small blood vessels can also lead to kidney and lung disease, coma, delirium, and dementia.

However, the study did not measure plaque, so the findings do not mean that blood vessels are currently blocked, Springer said.

“The containers show unhealthy vessel walls that predict later cardiovascular disease, with no diameter growing in real time when more blood needs to pass through,” he said.

Previous studies have found a strong link between marijuana use and subsequent cardiovascular disease. A February 2024 survey found that smoking, vap or marijuana eating was a huge increase in the risk of heart attacks and strokes, even if you had no pre-existing heart conditions and no smoking or steam cigarettes.

The risk of stroke increased by 42%, and if cannabis was used daily, the risk of heart attack increased by 25%, and the risk increased as marijuana days spent, studies found.

Using marijuana daily can increase marijuana by a third compared to people who are unable to increase their risk of coronary artery disease, according to a study found in a February 2023 study.

The American Heart Association advises people to refrain from smoking or vaping any substance, including cannabis products, due to potential harm to the heart, lungs and blood vessels. The guidance published in 2020 pointed to a study that found that abnormal heart rhythms such as tachycardia and atrial fibrillation can occur within an hour of the THC-containing weeds being smoked.

Fifty-five participants in this study were divided into three groups: those who smoked marijuana three times a week for at least one year, those who consumed THC ingredients three times a week for at least one year, and those who consumed THC ingredients three times a week for at least one year, and those who did not use them. People ages 18 to 50 in this study were not tobacco smokers or vapers, but all had little exposure to second-hand cigarette smoke.

The researchers performed ultrasound on the main artery in each person’s right upper arm and applied a very tight blood pressure cuff for 5 minutes. After removing the cuffs, the artery was rerun to see how well it was dilated or expanded to handle the increased blood flow. This creates a process that requires the release of nitric oxide.

Studies have shown that damage to endothelial cells that regulate dilation was dose-related. Study participants who used more marijuana were at a higher risk of damage to blood vessels that carry oxygen to body organs.

“Whether smoking or intake, high levels of cannabis use are associated with reduced vascular function, highlighting the increased cardiovascular risks with higher efficacy and frequency of use,” Mohammadi said.

Additional neck and thigh tests confirmed the stiffness of each person’s blood pressure wall. Compared to people who have never used marijuana, cannabis users appeared to have no additional stiffness in the walls of the blood vessels, the study found.

The role of smoking and the THC

Another analysis resulted in commercially purchased cultures of laboratory endothelial cells, with serum added from cannabis smokers and edible users. The blood of people who used THC-woven foods did not appear to harm the cells. However, endothelial cells incubated with marijuana smokers’ serum released 27% less nitric oxide than those treated with non-smoker’s blood.

The evidence is similar to that seen in tobacco, Springer, pointing to a previous study by his team showing endothelial cells incubated with serum of tobacco smokers, releasing 39% less nitric oxide than non-smokers.

“The observation that marijuana smokers and THC users each have poor vascular functions may conclude that THC is the cause of all this and smoke is irrelevant,” Springer said.

According to Springer, that would be a wise conclusion. Because there is reason to believe that marijuana smoke itself is just as liable for damage to the blood vessels.

“Rats exposed to marijuana smoke without cannabinoids also suffered from vascular and heart damage. Furthermore, tobacco smoke is known to cause heart disease and has no THC,” Springer said.

“So you don’t benefit yourself by switching to smoking from smoking to marijuana. Just smoking marijuana gives you a double hit of smoke and THC,” he said.

What about marijuana edibles, tea, tinctures, etc.?
