New York for the first time since 2000

NEW YORK – Madison Square Garden was shaking this Friday night like it wasn’t in 25 years.

Jalen Brunson scored 23 points, six rebounds and six assists, and the New York Knicks reached their first conference final since 2000, serving a 119-81 loss in Game 6 with defending champion Boston Celtics.

New York will face the Indiana Pacers for the opportunity to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals. Game 1 of the Best Seven Series will take place on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden (8pm, TNT).

OG Anunoby also had 23 points, Mikal Bridges had 22 points, Karl-Anthony Towns had 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Josh Hart had a triple double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.

Playing without star Jason Tatum, the Celtics were at a loss from the start, finding they fell 41 points in the second half. They were trying to become the 14th team to win the series after downing three games one by one.

The Celtics won Game 5 at home without a 127-102 Tatum, and the sixth All-Star met with teammates at the team hotel before Game 6 after undergoing surgery with his right Achilles tendon.

However, the injured star rally fell on the roadside in a fast order as the Knicks became aggressive from the start and were bullied inside.

Jalen Brown scored 13 of his 20 points in the first half before fouling out nearly three minutes away in Boston’s third quarter. Payton Pritchard scored 11 from the bench, while Al Horford was the only other Celtics starter with a 10-point double figure.

Follow the updates and highlights from Celtics vs Knicks Game 6:

statistics: The complete stats for the game can be found here.

New York Knicks guard forward Josh Hart has 10 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists, becoming the first Nick to register a triple double in a playoff game since Walt Frazier in 1972.

The joy and relief of the New York Knicks and its fans are genuine.

The Knicks rose 92-57 against the Boston Celtics three-quarters later, and are now just 12 minutes into the Eastern Conference Finals.

The first half was bad for the Celtics, worsening in the third quarter as the Knicks built a 92-51 lead. Celtics star Jalen Brown (20 points, 6 rebounds, six assists) was fouled out in the third quarter with 2:50 left. Al Horford was the other player in double digits with points for the Celtics, shooting 35.5% from the field and 26.7% on three-pointers.

Karl-Anthony Towns has 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Knicks, while teammate Jalen Brunson has 18 points, six rebounds and six assists.

If the Knicks continue, if that doesn’t happen, they’ll play the Indiana Pacers in the East Finals – a rematch of the Pacers’ winning last season’s conference semi-final series.

Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown was fouled out. With 2:50 left in the third quarter, Boston’s season is coming to an end.

The Knicks led 84-51 when Brown collected his sixth foul, and he was just one of two players in double digits of points for the defending champions. He finished with 20 points, six rebounds and six assists.

The Boston Celtics are in trouble, two-quarters from the premature playoff exit. It may be repeated on the ticks of the game clock.

The New York Knicks outscored the Celtics 38-17 in the second quarter, leading a 64-37 lead to halftime, putting the Knicks in a great position to reach the conference finals for the first time since 2000.

It was the first time the Knicks have led at halftime in the series, and Margin tied the Knicks’ biggest playoff halftime lead in franchise history.

Without the All-NBA ahead of Jayson Tatum, who ruptured his right Achilles tendon in Game 4, the Celtics are struggling both offensively and defensively. Jaylen Brown scores 18 points in a 13-7 shooting, but the rest of the team is totaling 29-7 from the field, 13-1 with 3-pointers.

Karl Anthony Towns lead the Knicks with 16 points and six rebounds. Teammates Mikal Bridges, Jalen Branson and Miles McBride are also two digits with points 12, 11 and 10 respectively.

NEW YORK – Celebrities are gaining full momentum at Madison Square Garden due to Game 6 against the Boston Celtics, who are hoping the New York Knicks can make their first meeting final in 25 years. The celebrities featured former Knicks players Walt Frasier, Larry Johnson, Bernard King, Stephon Marberry and John Starks. Some of the remaining elites sitting on thousands of dollars premium seats include Tracy Morgan, Jason Sudeikis, Lenny Kravitz, Ben Stiller, Bad Bunny, Timote Chalamet, Michael Strahan, John Stewart, Fat Joe, Ice Spice, Sauce Guardson, Spy Kelly.

Karl-Anthony Towns scored 11 points, grabbed four rebounds, and the Knicks Wing Mikal Bridges scored 10 points, but they scored two fouls as the New York Knicks took a 26-20 lead after six Friday’s first quarter.

Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown scored 13 points, helping Boston maintain his score in the opening quarter. No other Celtics players created multiple field goals.

At Kristaps, Porzingis deals with the prolonged effects of virus infections, so it’s not 100%. Luke Kornet, who changes game 5 (10 points, 9 rebounds, 7 blocks), has now got Boston off to the start. Porzingis appeared, playing for six minutes and earning three points.

New York shot 27-10 from the field, 3-14 with 3-pointers, while Boston was 24-8 and 10-10.

Ukraine will increase calls for “pressure” on Russia as its lecture ends without a ceasefire

0

Istanbul, Türkiye
CNN

The first in-person meeting of Russia and Ukraine of three years began on Friday with hopes dimly lit like the gray Istanbul sky.

And as discussions progressed, the weather brightened, but the outlook for peace was not like that.

Ultimately, the conference between the large prisoner swap (one of many of this war) and two discussion topics for future lectures – Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymiazelensky and the outline of the ceasefire was the only artifact at the Dolmabaha Palace in Istanbul, the thin palace of the Dolmabaha Palace in Istanbul.

The issue of ceasefires is when the cumbersome differences are most obvious.

By proposing these consultations last weekend, Russia was able to avoid the ultimate from Ukraine and its allies, sign up for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire or face major new sanctions.

Meanwhile, Ukraine is “ready to agree to a ceasefire today,” Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Heolyti Taiki told reporters during a hurry-separated briefing late Friday afternoon, suggesting that this was not achieved as Russia’s low-level dependence is “probably limited.”

But that’s not the only obstacle. The Russian delegation was made clear on Friday, and Turkish officials told CNN that an unconditional ceasefire would be on the table and that if Ukraine wanted to silence its guns, Russia would still have to occupy four regions (Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Khersia attempted in 2022.

It’s not a new demand, but it’s unacceptable to Kiev, and Vice President JD Vance said earlier this month that Russia is “seeking too much” in the requirements to end the war.

The convoy arrives on May 16, 2025, at the Turkish president's office at Dolmabas Palace in Istanbul, when representatives of Ukraine and Russia meet for peace negotiations.

As diplomatic cars slid down the busy streets of Istanbul, our frustration seemed to increase. After meeting both sides shortly before US officials met in person, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio left Istanbul with a scathing assessment of their outlook.

“It was because they were told there might be a direct involvement between the Russians and the Ukrainians. That was originally a plan,” he told reporters.

“It wasn’t that, or if so, it wasn’t at the level that I wanted.”

And the Ukrainians moved quickly to control the story.

At the Albanian summit, a delegation had appeared in Istanbul before Zelensky, calling a call between President Donald Trump and major European allies.

“Ukraine is ready to take the fastest possible steps to bring about real peace,” Zelensky wrote on social media after the call. However, he also made it clear that Ukraine is not the only one that must add, “If the Russians refuse to make a complete and unconditional ceasefire and refuse to end the killing, severe sanctions must continue.”

Ukrainian officials in Istanbul won similar tones.

“The interim success of today’s negotiations should still be integrated,” first vice minister Sergiy Kyslytsya told reporters late in the afternoon. “That means pressure on the Russian Federation must continue.”

There was also a clear effort to emphasize positivity. “If you agree to 1,000 in exchange for 1,000, I think this is already worth it,” said Tykhyi, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, referring to the agreed swap of prisoners. “This is a major achievement by the Ukrainian delegation.”

The media will meet as representatives of a Turkish-sponsored peace negotiation aimed at ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, and will enter the presidency of Dolmabakhe in Istanbul on May 16th.

But there is no sign of an increase in pressure from the US in the week that Russia once again refuses a ceasefire and ignores calls to send top-level officials to talks, and demands that the US already deems unacceptable.

Instead, Trump has promised to meet with Putin on Friday. “As soon as we can set it up,” he previously claimed, “nothing will happen (in Ukraine) until Putin and I get together.”

And the official Russian rating from Chief Negotiator Vladimir Medinsky kept it simple. “We are happy with the outcome and are ready to continue our contacts.”

Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen and Supreme Court catch Trump’s wrath

0

play

President Donald Trump returned to the US on Friday after a four-day Middle East trip filled with red carpets and luxury.

In a separate, truth-based social post on May 16th, the president criticized both Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift. However, later that day he denounced the Supreme Court after the majority of justice blocked the Trump administration’s efforts to deport groups of Venezuelan immigrants using the wartime law of 1798.

Trump criticised the Supreme Court’s actions and wrote on social media, “This is a bad day and a dangerous day for America!” The distressed president encouraged other criminals to enter the country, adding that the ruling would “prove great harm to our precious American people.”

Trump calls Springsteen “offensive” after comments at the Manchester Show

Trump’s rant didn’t begin with Scotts. Previously, he fired fire at Springsteen after the 75-year-old rocker scrutinised the administration at a May 14 concert in Manchester, England.

“In my home, America I love – America I wrote was a beacon of hope and freedom for 250 years. Now in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, rebellious regime,” Springteen told the British crowd, according to a video shared online. “Tonight we ask all who believe in the highest of democracy and our American spirit to stand up with us, raise your voice against authoritarianism and ring out freedom. This is a “land of hope and dreams.”

The president claimed he “doesn’t like” the “Dance in the Dance in” singer, despite Trump’s team having previously used Springsteen songs at campaign rally. Not only did Trump call him “overestimate,” but also hinted at the musician’s consequences when he returned to the US

“I think Bruce Springsteen, who is so overrated, is going abroad to talk badly about the US president,” he wrote. “I didn’t like him, I didn’t like his music or his radical left politics. Importantly, he’s not a talented man.

Swift also catches Barb after supporting Kamala Harris

Trump also hinted that Swift was overrated socially and wrote within an hour of Springsteen’s post.

In September, the president wrote on social media on social media, “I hate Taylor Swift,” after the Grammy winner in the 2024 presidential election supported Harris.

“You need to settle down,” the singer supported Harris in an Instagram post shortly after the only general election debate between Trump and Harris. The pop star signed off the post, labeling it “childless cat woman” and took a jab about childless people in JD Vance’s current Villar comment.

Moody’s cuts our credit ratings by citing rising debt

0

play

Moody’s rating reduced the country’s credit rating by 1 notch from AAA to AA1, with the US government notching the highest among the major rating agencies.

Moody’s cited debt and interest rates “are significantly higher than the similarly valued sovereigns.”

“All US administrations and Congress have not agreed to measures to reverse the trend of massive annual fiscal deficits and interest growth,” Moody’s said in a news release Friday. “US fiscal performance could be worse when compared to other highly rated sovereignty compared to its own past.”

For our consumers, a low rating can lead to higher borrowing costs.

Why did Moody’s downgrade the US?

The switch came after the Fitch rating downgraded the country from AAA to AA+ in 2023. In 2011, Standard & Poor’s downgraded the country’s credit rating.

Moody’s cites federal debt that has risen “sharply” due to the ongoing fiscal deficit due to increased federal spending and reduced government revenues due to tax cuts.

The agency said the latest draft tax bill from the GOP would add around $4 trillion to the federal primary deficit over the next decade, and said it did not believe the proposal would lead to “significant annual reductions in forced spending and deficits.”

The federal deficit is expected to grow from 6.4% of GDP in 2024 to 9% by 2035. This is driven by increased interest on debt, increased qualification expenditures and relatively low revenue generation.

Moody’s has a stable outlook from negative to stable

The agency also changed from negative to stability to reflect “balanced risks in AA1.” This points to the country’s “holding exceptional credit strength, such as economic size, resilience, and dynamism, and the role of the US dollar as a global reserve currency.

And despite policy uncertainty over the past few months, Moody’s hopes the US will continue its “long history of highly effective monetary policy” led by the independent Federal Reserve.

How does downgrade affect consumers?

A decline in rating could raise Treasury bond rates, increase government borrowing costs, and further increase federal debt. Additionally, as reported previously by USA Today, the Treasury Department has affected interest rates on assets such as 30-year fixed mortgages and corporate bonds, lower credit ratings could boost consumer borrowing costs.

“For investors, this downgrade may feel more symbolic than practical. There will be no significant increase in Treasury yields after the announcement. U.S. debt demand remains strong.” “However, the long-term impact is clear. Continuous financial expansion without reliable efforts to stabilize debt could ultimately affect borrowing costs and economic flexibility.”

Israeli forces say they have launched the first phase of a massive attack in Gaza.

0

CNN

Israeli forces say they have launched the first phase of a new, massive attack in Gaza with a development that developed on the same day President Donald Trump concluded a visit to the region without securing a ceasefire contract.

“In the past day, the IDF (Israel Defence Force) launched and mobilized a massive attack to seize the strategic areas of the Gaza Strip. As part of the expansion of the “Tanks of Gideon” and the expansion of the campaign in Gaza, all the targets of the war in Gaza, including the defeat of Hamas and defeat.

“The Southern Command IDF forces will continue to work to protect Israeli citizens and realize the goals of the war,” the military added.

The development comes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said earlier this month that he would be ousted south after receiving approval for an expanded military operation that Gaza’s population described as a plan to “conquer” the territory.

On Thursday, Israeli forces intensified operations across Gaza, killing more than 100 people and pledging to continue bombing.

According to Gaza Civil Defense, many of the victims were in Jabaria in northern Gaza and in Karn Yunis in the south.

Netanyahu has pledged to eradicate Hamas with a strategy that will keep more territory in Gaza in Hamas and push the entire civilians into smaller parts of the South.

The new Israeli attacks are among what appears to be increasing differences between the US and Israeli governments. Trump last week said he ended the “brutal war” in Gaza and did not visit Israel during his tour of the Middle East this week.

He also bypassed Israel twice this month to reach bilateral deals with regional extremist groups. Hamas released an Israeli-American hostage last week, and the Houtis agreed to stop firing on American ships in the Red Sea, pledging to continue the fight against Israel.

On Wednesday, Trump denied Israel was on the sidelines. “This is good for Israel,” he said.

But on Thursday he said he wanted the US to “take” Gaza and turn it into a “free zone.”

“I have the concept of Gaza. I think it’s very good. Let’s make it a free zone, let the US participate, just a free zone,” Trump said in Qatar.

The latest Israeli business comes as the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that the number of deaths in Israeli attacks in Gaza since October 2023 has exceeded 53,000.

Israel launched a war after Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups launched a surprising attack on Southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking 251 hostages. The attack marked the deadliest terrorist attack in Israel’s history.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

Trump attacks the Supreme Court after blocking Venezuela’s deportation

0

play

President Donald Trump said the Supreme Court’s decision to limit the ability to deport immigrants without a court hearing represents a “bad and dangerous day for America.”

In a post on his true social site May 16th, Trump prevented the High Court ruling from using the Wartime Act of 1798 to deport groups of Venezuelan immigrants. The immigrants alleged who said they were not given enough opportunity to challenge their removal.

The president summoned the alien enemy law in March when he designated a Venezuelan gang known as Trende Ragua as a “foreign terrorist organization.” The gang members were then deported to MegaPrison in El Salvador.

In the unsigned opinion, the court said immigrants did not have enough time or information to protect their rights. That’s important because the court said the administration could not bring back a man who had been mistakenly deported to El Salvador.

“This decision will result in more criminals being poured into our country and causing great harm to our precious Americans,” Trump said in his post. “The US Supreme Court has not let me have my election.”

Judge Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito opposed, with some saying the courts have no authority to oppress them at this stage. The majority opinion was not signed.

By calling the alien enemy laws, the Trump administration “deprived a vast power that has never been used to enforce everyday immigration,” according to a report by the Institute for Non-Participation.

Live Update: Ukrainian Allies call Russia’s demands unacceptable after their first talk over the years

0

Prior to direct consultations between Ukraine and Russia, CNN measured moods from the Ukrainian capital.

Kiev was full of people wearing it Visebanca – An embroidered shirt that has become a symbol of national strength and is traditionally exhausted on the third Thursday of May.

Similarly, despite the atmosphere of celebration on the streets, most Ukrainians CNN spoke to said they did not believe that negotiations with Russia would change anything.

“We want to see a ceasefire, but with this enemy, there will be no one,” said Danil, who works in the provincial emergency services in Odesa and who came to Kiev for a meeting.

Danil is 23 years old.

The 23-year-old was impressed by Zelensky’s proposal to meet in person with the Russian leader, but acknowledged that there were limitations to what Ukrainian leaders could do at any meeting.

“I want Zelensky to slap Putin in the face, but I understand that politics can’t do that.”

For 72-year-old Liudmyla Vasiyk and 76-year-old Dina Fedina, the future also looks bleak. Returning from the Computer Literacy Course, the two friends told CNN they had no positive expectations.

“President Putin won’t come. He’s afraid. He wants to capture Ukraine and restore the Soviet Union. We want to finish everything well, but that won’t happen. Everything will remain the same.

Liudmyla Vasiyk, 72, left, Dina Fedina, 76;

They also said they didn’t expect much help from Donald Trump and dismissed him as “a businessman who needs money, not Ukraine.”

Meanwhile, Ukrainian soldiers deployed in the South Zaporidia region told CNN over the phone that they hope to hear Russia repeat the same story points if a meeting takes place.

“Perhaps the negotiable team of the invader state (Russia) will demonstrate an unnegotiable position by defending the non-existent “root cause” of war,” the officer said, referring to the Kremlin’s claims against accused Ukraine staying at the Western Alliances.

His position was being fired overnight by Russian artillery, he said. “No matter what negotiations we’re going to keep working and fighting.”

Residents of long-term care facilities were given a frozen supplement shake, which was found to be contaminated with strains of Listeria monocytogen. The outbreak has led to at least 42 people getting sick and 14 deaths.

play

The Food and Drug Administration says the outbreak of multi-stage Listeria associated with frozen supplement shakes has seen an increase in death toll.

The increase in deaths from outbreaks comes three months after Lyons Magnus, a foodservice industry provider based in Fresno, California, recalls a 4-ounce carton from Lyons Readycare and Sysco Imperial Frozen supplemental shakes, a 4-ounce carton with a possible risk of listeria contamination. This product is Prairie Farms Dairy, Inc., located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. was produced by.

Lyons Magnus distributed products mainly to long-term care facilities across the United States under Lyons Readycare and Sysco Imperial Brand Name. The product is not sold in retail stores and the shakes should be available in the market, the FDA said.

The FDA and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have identified 38 people who were sick with Listeria poisoning and 12 people who died in 21 states, according to the agency in February 2025 that out of 38 people were hospitalized.

On Friday, May 16, the CDC and FDA increased the number of deaths to 14, increasing to 42 people who became ill (41 people hospitalized). The outbreak investigation has concluded, the agency said.

The outbreak of Listeria began in 2018

The CDC began investigating disease outbreaks among residents of long-term care and nursing homes in 2018 – a continuous investigation of cases in 2021 and 2023, but was unable to find sufficient evidence to identify food offenders.

When six new illnesses were reported in October 2024, the CDC resumed its investigation. In February 2025, frozen shakes were identified as a possible cause, and the CDC took samples from Prairie Farm.

Which states have Listeria cases associated with frozen shaking?

These are the 21 states that the FDA and CDC reported that they were aware of the listeria outbreak associated with this recall.

  • Alabama
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Connecticut
  • Florida
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Maryland
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota

What is Listeriosis or Listeria addiction?

Listeriosis, or listeria poisoning, is a food-borne bacterial infection most commonly caused by the bacterial listeria monocytogen.

According to the CDC, around 1,600 people get sick and 260 die from listeriosis each year. Most people get infected with Listeria and are not seriously ill. However, infections during pregnancy can lead to miscarriage, death, premature birth, or life-threatening infections in newborns, the USDA says.

Listeriosis can lead to death in people over the age of 65 or with weakened immune systems.

What are the symptoms of Listeria poisoning?

Signs and symptoms of listeriosis can appear several hours after eating contaminated food, and weeks after the USDA says. People in the high-risk category who experience flu-like symptoms within two months of eating contaminated food should contact their healthcare providers for medical care.

Among the symptoms:

  • heat
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle pain
  • headache
  • Stiff shoulders
  • confusion
  • Loss of balance
  • convulsions
  • diarrhea
  • Other gastrointestinal symptoms

DHS considers TV reality shows for immigrants to citizenship

play

WASHINGTON – The Department of Homeland Security is considering collaborating on a television show with producers of popular reality show Duck Dynasty.

DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin initially denied that the idea, first reported by Dailymail.com, has been considered by DHS or Kristi Noem of Homeland Security.

“This is completely wrong. The Daily Mail ‘report’ is a humiliation to journalism. Secretary Gnome is not “supporting” nor is he aware of the pitch of a scripted or real-life show,” McLaughlin said in a statement emailed to USA Today.

In a report on May 16, the UK publication stated that “ideas are real and outlined on a 35-page program pitch in conjunction with the DHS secretary,” and Rob Wasoff, author and producer known for his popular A&E reality show on the Robertson family and their hunting empire, is Rob Wasoff.

McLaughlin said DHS will receive “pitches of hundreds of television shows per year,” including documentaries that include border operations by immigration and customs enforcement and customs border security branches, as well as white-collar investigations by the Homeland Security Investigation Division.

“Each proposal undergoes a thorough review process prior to rejection or approval,” McLaughlin said. “This pitch has not been approved or rejected by staff.”

However, McLaughlin later admitted to other media outlets that the proposal was “in the first stage of its review process.”

The proposed series is called “America,” named after the trains where competitors run around the country, and compete in regionally-specific “cultural” contests such as the Wisconsin logroll. It said the winner will be sworn as a citizen on the stairs of the U.S. Capitol and end with the grand finale.

“Along the way, we remind us of what it means to be American — through the eyes of those who want it the most,” according to Worsoff’s pitch, the article says.

“I’m not part of political ideology. As an immigrant myself, I’m simply trying to create shows celebrating the immigration process, celebrate the meaning of being American and have a national conversation about what it means to be America through the eyes of those who want it the most.”

The Daily Mail also cited Trump’s appointee under the NOEM McLaughlin as fully supportive as DHS’s assistant secretary.

“I think that’s a good idea,” McLaughlin cited as saying.

McLaughlin told the Daily Mail that agency staff called the producers last week, but Norm hadn’t explained it yet.

“However, Dailymail.com has confirmed that Noem wants to support and move forward with the project,” the media outlet added Noem “want to showcase what it means to be an American amid the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration.”

In January, A&E announced a reboot of the original hit show in a press release, with the show following the Robertson family saying, “They map the future of duck commanders, watching children navigate their own business with their children and hand over the family legacy.”

If the proposed new show gets green lights at DHS and Hollywood, the contestants will already be immigrants to the system and compete in various contests, including possibilities relating to American history and science, told the Wall Street Journal.

He said losing a competitor would not face deportation.

“This is not an immigrant ‘Hunger Games’,” Wasov said. “This isn’t the case. ‘Hey, if you lose, we’re shipping you out of the country’s boats.”

‘Not regretting anything’ – Mads Pedersen’s stint in pink ends at Giro d’Italia as Vacek falls short of keeping it for Lidl-Trek

0

As Mads Pedersen’s memorable stint in the pink jersey came to an end on the Giro d’Italia’s first real mountain stage, Lidl-Trek hatched a clever plan to try and maintain the race lead with Mathias Vacek, who just fell short in the final kilometres of the climb in Tagliacozzo.

Vacek has been one of the stars of the race so far, often Pedersen’s most valuable teammate on sprint days and over climbs, highlighting his powerful versatility at just 22. But for much of stage 7, Vacek looked as though he could pull off the climbing performance of his career and take over the maglia rosa, until he lost contact in the final 1.5km.

Almost 12 prisoners running after New Orleans prisons are destroyed

play

New Orleans authorities said it was May 16th that they were in a hurry after nearly 12 people fled the Orleans Parish Jail in New Orleans.

City prison officials discovered the prisoner was missing during “daily personnel” Friday morning, the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson said the inmates fled the prison around 1am this morning.

New Orleans Police Department Principal Anne Kirkpatrick described the situation as “urgent and serious” at an early afternoon press conference. Some of the fugitives she said were in prison “even for murder.”

Louisiana State Police have arrested one of the detainees in the French district, a busy tourist destination in New Orleans., Sheriff Susan Hutson said at a press conference at 3:30pm. Authorities found the prisoner under a parked car near the hotel’s Monteleone, she said.

Local and state police are working with the FBI and US Marshall to find the rest of the escape.

“Troopers continue to work closely with local, state and federal partners as the search remains active against the rest of the escape. Our priorities are maintaining the safety of our communities and the rapid unrest of still large populations,” state police said in a statement.

The Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

How did the prisoners escape?

Hutson suggested that people working within the criminal justice system may have helped prisoners escape.

“It’s not entirely possible, but almost impossible for anyone to get out of this facility without outside help,” she said. “We’re going to know exactly what happened.”

Houston also denounced the prison’s “flawed lock of cell.”

She said the inmate opened the cell door before 12:30am. We then found a wall open behind the toilet, and then we left the loading dock door and expanded it, driving along the nearby interstate.

“Sometimes afterwards, it shows that these detainees were assisted in escaping individuals within our department,” she said.

This is a developing story.

Polish presidential election could end the final trace of populist resistance against Prime Minister Task

0

CNN

A year and a half before winning power from his populist hands, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tass faces a very stubborn obstacle to his plans: the president of the country.

That could change after the pivotal presidential election that begins in the first round of Sunday’s vote.

Rafał Trzaskowski, the mayor of the capital, Warsaw, who is closely aligned with the ruling party left in the centre, serves two terms and is leading the polls in the race to replace Andrzej Duda, who is not entitled to stand up again.

His main challenger is Karol Nowrocky, an ally of US President Donald Trump. His previous Doda is a chosen candidate for the Right-wing Populist Law and Justice (PIS) party, who vehemently opposed the Task agenda. Now Rocky has loudly supported Trump and visited the White House earlier this month to meet with the president.

The stakes and European interests are enormous. The Presidential Palace was the last political hub of PI to lead an eight-year attack on the independence of the country’s judicial system, media and cultural groups before the government expelled it in late 2023. The continental centralist leaders succumb to opposition from the right.

Freely wielding the president’s veto, Duda blocked several attempts by Tusk to lift the legacy of Pis’ Polish state transformation, including judicial reform that was central to Tusk’s agenda. He also stalled progress on the bill related to hate crimes and access to birth control by rejecting the bill or sending it to legal gridlocks.

Polish presidents are the head of state of the country, but traditionally they are more ceremonial than the prime minister who runs the country’s government. However, the power of veto allowed the President to act as a foil to their government, and Duda has easily walked into political proceedings, clashing publicly with Fang about some aspects of his platform.

If Nawrocki wins the vote (if they move on to the second round in two weeks, if the candidate has not reached 50% of the votes – that roadblock is expected to be firmly present until the next parliamentary election in 2027 until the task is expected to show voters his government’s Zenda achievements.

“Nowlocky’s victory will significantly reduce the prime minister’s domestic political capital,” wrote Marta Prochwitz Yazovka of the European Council of Foreign Relations. “It will not only weaken the room for Taksk’s maneuvering, but will also burden his already vulnerable coalition of control as its members do not agree on how they will respond to the opposition president.”

However, the presidency of Trzaskowski will soon free the fangs from those constraints. Warsaw’s central left mayor is a pro-European and socially free voice in Polish politics, losing his previous presidential election to Duda with a thin margin of razors.

Polish presidential candidates technically stand as individuals, not as party representatives, but as individuals, their affiliations and each major political party have historically been largely hidden. Candidate support and campaign.

However, not all Tusk’s pledges pass immediately. The Prime Minister must win the consent of his broad governing coalition for some particularly controversial efforts in the Catholic state.

Tusk has pledged to ease abortion restrictions in Poland now. This now constitutes an almost complete ban on proceedings and allows for civil partnerships between same-sex couples, but both pledges have attracted opposition from lawmakers supporting his government.

Sunday’s vote is expected to cut candidate areas to Nawrocki and Trzaskowski before heading out in two weeks. But much attention is also paid to the performance of Swomir Menzen, co-leader of the polar coalition party. This is a strong criticism of solidly anti-beast, anti-immigrant and Ukrainian leader Voldimi Zelensky.

After crash, Richard Carapaz scores ‘a big point in my favour’ in opening Giro d’Italia mountain test

0

It’s been a fraught 24 hours for Richard Carapaz at the 2025 Giro d’Italia, but the EF Education-EasyPost racer has been as resilient as ever despite the challenges, and after the first big mountains test, the Ecuadorian champion is still exactly where he needs to be overall.

At the finish of Thursday’s rain-soaked, crash-filled stage to Naples and with Carapaz having fallen hard himself as well as several teammates, the mood amongst the tiny knot of grimy-faced EF racers as they grabbed recovery drinks from support staff was anything but upbeat.

How Cathy’s tragic testimony and the myth of “mutual abuse” harms all victims

0

play

Casandra Ventura Fine told the ju judge on May 14 that she physically abused her, from dragging her out to knocking her to the side of her head. In one incident, she said he was verbally accusing her, recalling that she had punched him in her face for the first time.

“I had never experienced anything like that before,” said Venture, the R&B singer best known as Cathy, who said she was “really beaten badly.” When rumors of the incident circulated online, she said her mom and dad had asked about it. Cathy testified that she didn’t tell her mother the truth because she was “embarrassed.”

Prior to the trial, Combs’ lawyers said they wanted to show that instead of denying Combs’ violence, they would “clash with both sides.”

“Domestic violence, we absolutely acknowledge that,” said Mark Agnifilo, the chief lawyer for Combs, but added that it was “mutually violent.” Combs’ legal team punished Ventura on May 16th, about what her lawyers called her own history of domestic violence.

However, sexual violence experts argue that “mutual abuse” claims are tactics used to avoid liability from perpetrators and to undermine the power imbalances that promote domestic violence, and to further undermine the harmful stereotypes of “complete victims.”

Although there may be unhealthy behaviors from both partners involved in an abusive relationship, one person tends to have more control than the other.

Ventura Fine testified that Combs had abused her over the years. She was 19 when she met Combs. He was 17 years old and was founded in the music industry and signed a contract for 10 albums.

“Her livelihood and safety was dependent on keeping the defendant happy,” Attorney Emily Johnson said on May 12. Prosecutors said Kushi and Kathy were “dishonest and jealous,” but “only one person was strong.”

How the idea of ”mutual abuse” harms victims

Domestic violence experts say the idea of ”mutual abuse” is difficult. In an abusive relationship, one partner tends to retain more power or become a major attacker. The other might react violently, but that’s probably all – the reaction.

“One person is controlling others, stripping them of their autonomy and stripping them of their independence,” says sociologist Nicole Bedella. “That’s not something that can be done by one another.”

Defense strategy for Shaun “Diddy” comb in his sex crime trial

Legal experts are discussing the strategies Sean “Diddy” Comb’s defense attorney will use in federal sex crime trials.

Abusers can manipulate and abuse victims to each other by saying things like, “What you said made me behave like that” or “You started this.”

Victims may “become shocked by their own violent reactions,” says Jordan Pickel, trauma and relationship therapist. “They are scared and have little strength.”

“Abuse is intended to be confusing by design,” she adds. “This reciprocal language covers the extent of abuse, which hurts all survivors because it challenges themselves and cultivates a sense of self-deprecation.”

The idea of the “perfect victim”

We have an inherent expectation of how victims of abuse should act, respond and act.

However, abusive relationships often have mixed feelings. The victim can be sexually, physically, or emotionally abused, but he has loving feelings for his partner. Eight in ten victims of rape knew who raped them before the incident, whether they were current or former intimate partners or acquaintances.

Piquel works with clients who are “terrified of their actions” as Ventura Fine testified that she is feeling embarrassed. It can take time for them to realize that they are victims of abuse.

And it’s important to remember that abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of personality, behavior or response. When they have a clear idea of what the victim will look like, Pickel says, “We mistakenly believe that it won’t happen to us.”

I also want to believe that author, research professor and clinical psychologist Shelley Humvey previously told USA Today that they are all “monsters” and that they can find perpetrators of abuse. But “they don’t have horns that come out of their heads. Many of them are very attractive when they want to be.”

There is no “right way” for victims to deal with abuse

There is no gold standard when it comes to dealing with abuse, as domestic and sexual violence can appear different in each case and relationship.

“If you didn’t fight back, people would say, ‘Well, you must have had a problem with it. You must have liked it. That must have been agreed in some way,” explains Bedella. “And if you fight back, they’ll say, ‘Well, you weren’t abusive either?” ”

She says, “The whole point is that there is always something to criticize and there is always a reason to justify the violence of the perpetrator.”

According to a 2020 study by the National Domestic Violence Coalition, approximately one in five female victims and one in 20 male victims of sexual, physical, and/or stalking, resulting in medical care. An average of 76 women are shot dead by their intimate partners each month. The most dangerous period for the safety of the victim is when they leave an abusive relationship. Notifying them of their abusive partner or plan to leave can put the victim at greater risk of murder and violence of their intimate partners.

Just as the way women use intuition and judgment to navigate the experience of street harassment, whether they are running around or not, victims are flying, fighting and freezing their answers to survive each attack.

“Through the entire period of their abusive relationship… the victims are making the decision to protect themselves at key moments that will literally keep them alive,” adds Bedella. “When we hold our victims to the standard of “perfect victims,” what we are attacking is the tools and tactics that keep them alive. ”

Bedella says she will not think too much about the victim’s reaction and refrain from deciding whether she handled the abuse in a “how the victim thinks it should.”

“It’s not really something that’s been tried here,” she reminds people keep an eye on the lawsuit. “What’s on trial is how the perpetrator behaves and what he does.”

Iguara Students: Former Judge arrested in 2014 in Mexico

0

CNN

More than a decade after 43 students from rural colleges of education disappeared in southern Mexico, new arrests spark fresh scrutiny and reopened old wounds. On Thursday, Mexican authorities detained 79-year-old Lambertina Galeana Marin, now a retired judge.

The arrest is linked to the “loss of recordings from cameras” placed at the Judicial Palace in Iguara, Guerrero, Mexico, where a student was last seen.

Marin served as president of Guerrero’s Senior Court of Justice at the time of the incident. The arrest warrant was issued in August 2022 to military commanders, police officers and “Five Administrative and Judicial Authorities in the State of Guerrero,” but at the time the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) did not identify any suspicious individuals.

Mexican President Claudia Sinbaum spoke about Marin’s arrest at a press conference Friday morning. She said the special prosecutor’s office is investigating why the video related to the case was erased. This is the issue she noticed that families of those who disappeared in 2014 have been procuring for a long time.

Sinbaum replaced Andre’s Manuel Lopez Obrador in 2024 and left the presidency without fulfilling his important pledge to uncover the truth about the disappearance of students in 2014.

ayotzinapa case #2

Cases of missing students have long held Mexico. Students were travelling to Iguara, a Southwestern city of Iguara, where buses were stopped by local police and military forces on September 26, 2014. What happened after that interaction is still unknown, but the photographs of the scene show a bus covered in bullets.

A 2022 government report concluded that the vanished students were victims of “state sponsored crimes.” In 2023, a report from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Mexico found that Mexican troops did not provide all the information requested by an independent panel investigating the disappearance. That same year, experts on that panel left, citing “lack of information,” “secrets,” and “hidden evidence” surrounding investigative efforts.

For mourning families, the arrest strengthens suspicions of possible cover-up related to the 2014 loss disappearance. Felipe de La Cruz, one of Ayotzinapa’s parents and a spokesman for the group of vanished parents, told CNN on Thursday that the area’s “silence agreement continues to govern.”

“For us, first and foremost, it’s very important that the research continues and that work continues,” added De La Cruz.

Faster, smarter, packed with new technologies

0

play

One of the most surprising aspects of the 2025 GMC Hummer EV pickup is that this 9,000-pound electric giant can move from a stop to 60 mph in 3 seconds. The second cool feature is the Club Walk. The truck will have front and rear wheels facing in the same direction, visible left and right.

Apparently, these party tricks weren’t enough for GMC, the curator of today’s Hammer brand. The automaker has found ways to improve both the Hummer functionality. This means that the giant truck will fire even faster, allowing you to maneuver all 18 feet of its length more accurately, and also manipulate its ability to offload tighter turns.

GM has bolstered the track with a 2026 model year software update. The ’26 Hummer will be coming later this year so we’re waiting a bit, but as some of the improvements will be sent to previous models in the air, the current owner will not be completely ruled out. The Hummer is GM’s first software-defined vehicle. This means that new features and performance will be added or unlocked via software.

The hardware for improvement has been in place since 2022. The Truck’s advanced platform and electrical architecture allow you to continue improving and add functionality in the software. As GM collects more data about the vehicle, it also reveals how to unlock more performance and capabilities.

More neck snapping boot

By optimizing software and propulsion calibration, engineers say they shaved from 0.2 seconds from startup time on the 2026 Hummer EV pickup. With a large 24-module battery pack and two motors in the rear and one motor in one front, there are 1,160 horsepower and about 1,200 lb-ft of torque, the improvement spells out new time, reaching 60 mph in 2.8 seconds.

This is limited to the 2026 model at least for now. This starts with limited production driving of the Hommer EV Carbon Fiber Edition Pickup and SUV, based on top three times trim. It has the ability to unlock additional performance of future previous models.

The launch of maximum acceleration Watts to Freedom (WTF) mode has not been changed. Double press the traction control button to make sure WTF mode is required, the haptic seat starts to vibrate with predictions, listen to the sound amplifier, and the graphics brighten up. The vehicle is prepared low, the battery temperature is optimized, the message tells the driver to place his left foot on the brake, the right foot on the accelerator, and the digital drive coach tells him to release the brakes and “floor.” The vehicle crouches down and releases. Your neck snaps backwards. You can’t help laughing loudly as the G-force hits your body.

Time to laugh

While the engineers experienced it as passengers while repeatedly firing on the prototype, the gauge showed an acceleration of 0.8-g as the truck quickly reached 96 mph. At the next launch, the vehicle was bent over the hunter, so there were some wiggling and hops, the nose advanced upwards, and quickly reached 101 mph. The impact is like a complete forced blow from the rear. Comparison: The GMC Sierra EV with Maximum Power Mode requires 4.5 seconds to hit a 60 despite sharing hardware with the Hummer.

For an engineer like Aaron Phau, not only does achieving 2.8 seconds feel different, but it’s also an emotional achievement that being under the 3.0 second mark. “It’s an exciting day in the lives of a development engineer,” said the vehicle performance manager for a battery electric truck.

You can stay in mode as long as you need it, and you can make repeat releases. The only degradation is that when the range falls below 50%, performance feels slightly reduced, says Phau.

Once you’ve finished your fun, leave WTF mode and the vehicle returns to normal drive height for daily driving.

So how did GM do that?

Inverter limits have been increased to extract more power from the battery to the drive unit. The engineers also re-adjusted the slip targets to manage wheel slips and torque with extra power. Additionally, the ride comfort has been improved thanks to the electronically controlled semi-active damper control. The spring rate remains the same, but the amount of damping force increases, allowing more forces to be applied to manage vertical movement. GM has also changed the way the control unit unlocks more power.

The GMC Hummer SUV cannot use faster firing. It’s not just that the 20-module battery pack is small due to its small footprint. It’s not that the SUV is leaning forward. You could reach 60 miles in 3.5 seconds.

There is also a boost system for the Sierra EV and the Chevrolet Silverado EV, but these trucks have different suspensions and cannot be reduced to the same extent as the Hummer.

Add king crab to menu

One of the most eye-catching Hummer tricks is the crabwalk, which allows the truck to move forward with diagonal passes, as the four wheels are pointed in the same direction. King Crab Off-Road Rear Steer Mode turns the front and rear wheels in opposite directions, and the rear wheels rotate very quickly, for example, with sharp angled operations around the tree. The rear end of the vehicle helps avoid two-point or three-point turns. Also, if you get stuck on loose rocks and try again with more traction, it will be easier to find a good placement. The camera view shows the location of the wheels and the terrain covered.

With King Crab, drivers can place their trucks more accurately and run them more accurately. We rode along off-road courses where wide tracks sharply turned trees that would require multi-point turns without this feature.

Regular crab walks are useful if you slide down a groove. It helps to bring the truck backwards without the rear end slipping off. However, King Crab is a feature of a tight turn where all four wheels work to find the grip. Mike Burns, a ride-and-handling engineer, is another tool to make off-roading more enjoyable.

Mystery Mode Solve

Like a Club Walk, press the button on the Drive Mode Dial to enable Crab King. The Club Walk is located at 9 o’clock. King Crab is 3am for the 2026 model. Over the Air Update will be active on older models. For them, the King Crab is in the same position, filling the current model’s “mystery mode” spot with a triangular graphics, which are retaining spots for future features. This is the feature.

Why not create a more extreme rear wheel steering standard to not always give the truck a tight turning radius? Most people always keep it, but sometimes you don’t want it, such as backing up with a trailer you want it, Burns says.

The GMC Sierra EV pickup is offered on Crab Walk, and the Chevrolet Silverado EV has a similar system called Sidewinder Mode, but you don’t get King Crab. According to Burns, it is exclusively for Hammer, which boasts unexpected and unparalleled capabilities. “No other one has these features.”

The King Crab is standard on the 2026 model and on the entire 3x pickup and SUV trim. We will also be out to all Hummer EV pickups and SUV owners from 2022 to 2025 through broadcast updates later this year.

2026 GMC Hummer Update

For the 2026 model year, the Hammers will also add two-way charging, allowing for vehicle-to-vehicle charging capabilities.

The 2026 Hummer will be enhanced with three new exteriors and three new interior colors, a new off-road wheel design, a high-resolution infotainment screen and a lane change to the hands-free driving super cruise.

The 2026 Carbon Fiber Edition truck and SUV features unique matte grey exterior and Ember interior, unique 22-inch carbon fiber wheels, all-terrain tires, carbon fiber inserts on the hood, mirror caps and skid plates, black approach shields and tonneau covers. Production will begin at zero factory later this year. No pricing has been announced.

As for rumors about bringing the Hummer home with an internal combustion engine, if GM is working on it, it’s news to engineers like Phau.
