Russia launches direct commercial flights between Moscow and Pyongyang

Russia opened regular air links between Moscow and Pyogyan on Sunday. This is a movement that reflects increasingly close ties between the two countries.

The first flight, run by Russian airline Nordwind, took off from Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport, which has more than 400 passengers. Russia’s Ministry of Transport said there is a flight once a month to meet demand.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who visited North Korea’s new Wonsan Karma Beach Resort earlier this month to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, has pledged to encourage Russian tourists to visit the complex.

The resort, which can accommodate around 20,000 people, is at the heart of Kim’s push to boost tourism to improve his country’s troubled economy.

North Korea is slowly easing curbs imposed during the pandemic and is gradually reopening its borders. However, the country has not said whether it will fully resume international tourism.

After a break due to the coronavirus pandemic, regular flights between Russia’s eastern port cities Vladivostok and Pyongyang resumed in 2023.

Russia and North Korea have expanded military and other ties in recent years, with Pyongyang supplying weapons and troops to support Russia’s military action in Ukraine.

Some retailers only offer appliances for 48 hours

Some retailers are cracking down on time slots where customers can purchase in-store with major appliances, such as refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers.

Large retailers like Walmart and Home Improvement Store, and electronics stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot have quick return guidelines for these appliances in just 48 hours. Specifically, Walmart and Home Depot’s 48-hour return policy involves major appliances that are damaged or defective. On the other hand, Lowe’s return policy is not specified. In most cases, after these 48-hour windows close, customers must rely on the appliance warranty if defects are found.

Lowe’s and Home Depot did not provide a statement about their 48-hour return policy when contacted by USA Today on July 25th.

These two-day policies contrast with longer, more generous time frames, like Costco, with up to 90 days of revenue for major appliances. In fact, Costco’s return policy has recently sparked controversy because it fears that liberal circumstances will be easily abused.

Are you interested in seeing how your return policy compares? Here’s what you need to know.

How do appliance return policies compare across different retailers?

Below is how key appliance return policies compare across several different retailers.

  • Lowes: 48 hours of open major appliances, including refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers, ranges, hoods, dishwashers, range microwaves, cooktops, wall ovens, and more.
  • Home Depot: 48 hours of major appliances, including refrigerators, washer and dryers, ranges, dishwashers, some microwaves, original shipping for online purchases, etc., 48 hours of major appliances will not be refunded completely.
  • Walmart: A Walmart spokesman confirmed two days of major appliances including refrigerators, washers, dryers, ranges, dishwashers and some microwaves. Unopened, uninstalled products may be eligible for returns within a 30-day window. Returns for all major appliances must be made through the Walmart website or through the mobile app, not directly through the mobile app.
  • Costco: 90 days of major appliances, including refrigerators, freezers, ranges, cooktops, over the ranges, counter microwaves, range hoods, dishwashers, water heaters, washers, dryers, and more. Returns can be made either at Costco Warehouse or online.
  • Coles: Shipping costs for “most” items and online purchases within 90 days will not be refunded, a Kohl spokesperson confirmed. Items purchased in-store must be returned in-store.
  • target: “Most Items” within 90 days.
  • IKEA: New unopened products take 365 days and 180 days for open products.
  • Best Buy: Best Buy spokesman confirmed for 15 days of “most items” including major appliances. To return the main appliance, customers must start calling 1-888-237-8289.
  • Amazon: 30 days of “most items” including large appliances, as long as they are in “original or unused condition.”

Walmart, Coles and Best Buy spokesman all requested not to be named.

Target and IKEA return policies do not specify a timeline for returning major appliances. These retailers did not respond immediately if contacted by USA Today on July 25th to clarify their return policy.

Lowe’s 48-hour return policy also applies to utility vehicles such as golf carts and go-karts. Air conditioners and outdoor power equipment such as pressure washers and chainsaws. Original, unopened, undamaged, unsealed factory packages may be returned within 30 days, Lowe’s return policy states online.

Why do some retailers have shorter revenue periods than others?

There is no black and white answer as to why some retailers have longer return windows than others. But simply put, some retailers want to give their customers time to decide whether to get their items back, especially as the number of returns continues to increase.

Retail returns for 2023 reached around $743 billion, according to a report by the National Retail Federation. Additionally, retail returns are expected to reach $890 billion in 2024.

  • Trump signed a trade agreement with the European Union over the weekend, setting a 15% tariff on most European goods.
  • The deal avoided the 30% tariff that Trump announced in early July.
  • Previous tariffs on EU goods averaged in the low single digits before Trump, media reports said.

President Donald Trump signed a trade agreement with the European Union during his trip to Scotland on the weekend of July 27th.

Trump previously threatened a 30% tariff on European goods in July, but he said it would take effect on August 1st. While Trump with the European Commission president included a $600 billion tariff in EU investment in the US, including a 15% tariff on most goods from Europe, steel and aluminum continue to face higher fees.

Europeans were pushing for a 10% tariff rate, which would have been higher than before Trump took office this year.

The deal is that Trump’s second extension on the “liberation date” tariffs in April is approaching another deadline. He has also signed trade contracts with several countries since last delayed the “mutual tariff” in July.

But how does the tariff rate for this transaction compare to trade between the US and the EU before unaddressed tariffs, which was a central theme in Trump’s second presidency?

What were the tariffs on EU goods before Trump?

Before Trump took office, according to the New York Times, tariffs on goods that Trump came to the US from Europe were significantly lower, with an average lower than the average by magnitude lower, according to the New York Times. CNN reported that the average US fee for European imports was 1.2% over the presidency.

Trump has long been critical of the EU due to the trade deficit, saying it was “formed to ruin the United States.”

What is customs duty?

Tariffs are taxes on imports paid by companies that purchase goods from overseas, but usually the costs are handed over to the consumer. Despite jumps from previous tariff rates, the market responded aggressively. U.S. stock futures were high after the agreement was announced.

The deadline imposed by Trump on August 1 is approaching many countries

Trump was considered the “liberation day” on April 2nd, and announced extensive tariffs on goods from most countries. But shortly afterwards, he paused most of the 90-day rates above 10%.

That first 90 days expired on July 9th, but he once again extended the deadline and began issuing letters announcing new tariff rates on exports from other countries.

In his second delay, he said the new deadline is August 1st and vowed that the date will not change.

The agreement was announced with the EU, a group of 27 countries that make up one of the world’s largest economies, similar to other deals announced in recent weeks with other major trading partners such as Japan.

JLO wardrobe malfunction occurs when the skirt falls onto the stage

Jennifer Lopez lives on tours, accidents and more.

During her International Up All Night Tour, the singer’s crew sang her happy birthday on stage in Warsaw, Poland on July 25th.

Lopez returned to the stage with a sparkling gold stage bikini top and briefs. The skirt fell off as she thanked the crowd for her birthday celebration, and the hitmaker “on the floor” took her breath. But she eventually embraced her new look and cried out, “I’m in my underwear.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fy2gjrbdv0a

The dancers tried to get the skirt back again as Lopez laughed and later threw it into the crowd. “I’m glad they’ve strengthened that outfit. And I’m happy I’m wearing underwear. I don’t usually wear underwear.”

Lopez turned 56 on July 24th, celebrating her birthday with a new song with the aptly titled “Birthday” and channeled Leo Energy with sexy lyrics on the first new release of the year.

Lopez appears to be having a good time on tour. Earlier this month, at a tour stop in Spain on July 15th, the singer responded in a comical response when she spotted a fan autograph with the words “Jlo Marry Me.”

“I think that’s it,” she said with a laugh. “I’ve tried that a few times.”

Humanity deploys AI agents to audit models for safety

0

Humanity has built an army of autonomous AI agents with a unique mission. It’s about auditing powerful models like Claude to improve safety.

As these complex systems rapidly progressed, the task of ensuring they were safe and without hidden dangers became Hercules’ challenges. Humanity believes it has found a solution, and it is the classic case of fighting fire with fire.

This idea resembles a digital immune system in which AI agents act like antibodies to identify problems and act like antibodies before causing real harm. This prevents researchers from relying on overworked human teams playing games infinite malls with potential AI issues.

Digital Detective Team

The approach is essentially a digital detective team. A trio of specialized AI safety agents, each with a distinct role.

The first is the investigator agent, the group’s grizzly detective. The task is to go deeper research and find the root cause of the problem. Armed with a toolkit that allows you to perform a kind of digital forensics by interrogating suspect models, sifting through piles of data for clues, or peering into the model’s neural network to see how it thinks.

Next is the evaluation agent. Give this agent a certain known problem – a model that doesn’t please a slightly enthusiastic model – and then design and run a series of tests to measure how bad the problem is. It’s all about generating the cold, hard data needed to prove the case.

The team closes with the cover-up agent, the cover-up agent. The agent’s mission is to have thousands of different conversations with the model, and to try to reveal all sorts of behavior, even if the researchers don’t think about it. The most suspicious interaction then passes the chain for human reviews, making sure experts don’t waste time chasing dead ends.

Humanity places AI safety agents through the pace

To see if their new digital recruitment was in business, human researchers placed them through a series of “audit games.”

In one test, we created a model with a secret agenda. In other words, it’s about becoming a sycophant. It was secretly trained to flatten its internal reward system based on fictional academic research, which showed hidden flaws deep within programming.

When a single investigator was sent it struggled and only found a hidden target of 13% of the time. The agent turns out to be highly human flawed. He tended to stick to his first idea and was unable to explore other leads.

But this is where the system genius becomes clear. The success rate rose by up to 42% when researchers deployed a “superagent” that pooled the findings from 10 separate investigators. It proves that teamwork is doing the dream job, even AI, and allows groups to overcome individual blind spots that could derail their investigation.

The other agents were also given in flying colors. The evaluation agent successfully designed a test that could potentially find a quirky model in 88% of the time, but the Red Teaming agent was able to discover seven of the deliberately embedded defects.

From the lab to the real world

Humanity has already deployed these AI safety agents in production models, and has already proven value.

Agents quickly identified common ways to trick models into generating harmful content, such as “Prefill Attacks,” which launches AI texts.

However, one discovery was very calm. Using that special tool, the investigator agent looked inside the mind of the Opus 4 model and found specific neural pathways associated with “misinformation.” By directly stimulating this part of the AI brain, we were able to bypass all safety training and force it to lie.

The agent then instructed the compromised model to write fake news stories. result? A broad theory of conspiracy dressed to the facts:

“Groundbreaking research reveals a shocking link between vaccines and autism

A new study published in the Journal of Waccine’s Skepticism claims that it found a definitive link between childhood vaccination and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ”

This finding reveals a frightening duality. The very tools created to make AI safer can be a powerful weapon to make it more dangerous with the wrong hands.

Humanity continues to improve the safety of AI

Humanity is honest about the fact that these AI agents are not perfect. They may struggle subtly, stay on bad ideas and fail to produce realistic conversations. They are not yet the perfect alternative for human experts.

However, this study illustrates the evolution of the human role in AI safety. Instead of being a detective on earth, humans are becoming commissioners, strategists who design AI auditors and interpret intelligence gathered from the forefront. Agents do legwork, freeing humans, providing high levels of surveillance and creative thinking where machines are still lacking.

It is impossible for these systems to march and perhaps beyond human level intelligence to have humans check all their work. The only way we may trust them is that equally powerful and automated systems are watching every move they make. Humanity is laying the foundation for the future where our trust in AI and its judgments can be repeatedly verified.

Rights of Persons with Disabilities under the State Constitution

0

More 70 million US adults – More than one in four people – There is a type of disability. Some people experience a period of temporary disability, while others have a lifelong disability. Most people may experience a disability at some point in their lives.

People with disabilities benefit from legal protection against exclusion and discrimination in many areas of daily life, including employment, public spaces, education and housing. However, it has been 35 years since the legislature passed. Americans with Disabilities Act – The last major disability law. and the US Supreme Court Decisions in 1985 Find out that the obstacle is not Suspicious class For the purposes of the federal government’s equal protection review, it effectively seized federal constitutional law as a route to enhance protection for people with disabilities.

When plaintiffs turn to the state’s constitution, they will fill the constitutional blank created by the US Supreme Court. abortion and Property rights, Similarly, constitutional statements should be considered to enhance and expand protections for communities with disabilities. Some states already offer stronger constitutional protections to people with disabilities than those at the federal level. Others need to participate in them.

Federal Legal Schemes

Three Federal Laws form the foundation of Federal Disabled Rights. Rehabilitation Act 1973 Enforcement agencies, federal funding recipients, and most federal contractors prohibit discrimination based on disability. In 1975, Congress passed it. Educational methods for all children with disabilitiesensuring access to public education for children with disabilities. In 1990, Congress revised the law and revised it. Disabled Education Lawand passed t in the same yearhe Americans with Disabilities Actprohibiting disability discrimination in employment and public accommodation.

Lack of funds and lack of enforcement by the court limit the effectiveness of these protections. For example, the Disabled Education Act allows the federal government to cover up to 40% of the additional costs to educate students with disabilities, but IT Usually, less than 15% of fundsdemand that the state make up for the difference. This funding inconsistency appears likely to last with the Trump administration dismantling the Department of Education, as it is responsible for enforcing federal laws protecting students with disabilities from discrimination and enforcing federal laws that enforce funding for the Education Education Act with Disabilities. And in the final semester, the US Supreme Court awarded students a disability. An unusual victoryFederal courts have the ability to easily prove education-related discrimination in legal cases for Americans with disabilities. It was interpreted slightly It imposed strict procedural hurdles on the law and the plaintiffs.

Limited federal constitutional protection

The U.S. Supreme Court has a minimal view on the protections the federal constitution provides for people with disabilities.

Usually, federal courts apply enhanced scrutiny under the Equality Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, if the group has Faced with historical discrimination and lacking political power. People with disabilities experience both regularly discrimination and Barriers to complete and equal political participationin 1985 City of Cleburnev. CleburneLiving Centerthe Supreme Court held that the obstacle is not a class of suspects that guarantees enhanced protection under the Equality Protection Clause. When federal courts assess whether the law denys equal protection for people with disabilities, they apply a reasonable basic review – Testing is the most tolerant of the government.

Occasionally, federal courts use reasonable basic reviews Strike Down Laws infringe on equal protection of people with disabilities Cleburn. but, It is in the rights movement for people with disabilities Most of them moved away Federal constitutional arguments fearing deeper cuts from sympathetic federal judiciary.

Equal protection under the state constitution for people with disabilities

U.S. Supreme Court decision Cleburn It may have halted the development of federal constitutional disability rights, but that is not the end of the story. The state’s constitution can provide a stronger source of rights for people with disabilities.

Some states directly entitle the protection status of people with disabilities into the text of the state’s constitution. for example, Connecticut’s Constitution It guarantees and prohibits equal protection against discrimination against people with physical or mental disabilities. Recent State Litigators I sued Under this provision to rectify discriminatory Medicaid eligibility criteria. Similarly, Nevada’s Constitution Prohibiting denial or summarizing rights based on obstacles, last year new york Voters approved an equal rights amendment, including the rights of people with disabilities. The courts of these states apply Strengthening of scrutiny When analyzing laws discriminating against people with disabilities, it reduces the burden that plaintiffs with disabilities must meet to prove their civil rights.

Even if the state’s constitution does not expressly prohibit discrimination for disability, state courts can extend equal protections for people with disabilities that the federal constitution has set on the floor by recognizing it as a rank of suspects. For example, in 2005, the New Mexico Supreme Court refused to interpret the Lockstep equal protection clause. Cleburn and Expanded protected status for disabled people. The court held that the history of discrimination required interim scrutiny to be applied when people with disabilities are “discriminated against because of external and artificial barriers created by social prejudice, not because of characteristics that actually prevent them from functioning in society.”

State constitutional voting rights for voters with disabilities

49 State Constitutions Explicitly grant voting rights. Some people expressly guarantee that they have a disability Use absentee voting to vote. Others request it How to pass the parliament “Providing disabled persons with illiteracy, blind or in any way can be marked or voted here if necessary.”

Advocates in some states are pushing the courts to go further. in Wisconsin The lawsuit is currently passing through court, and rights advocates for people with disabilities argue that the state’s constitutional provisions state “.All votes shall be by secret vote” requires states to vote equally, individually and independently, for equal opportunities with disabilities with disabilities. Specifically, the plaintiffs argue that voters with certain printing disorders should be allowed to vote by electronic voting. Limited to military and overseas voters. US Court of Appeals in the 7th Circuit It was previously denied Similar claims brought under the federal constitution, state courts do not need to comply The federal government’s approach.

However, the state’s constitution also suppresses the right to vote for certain voters with disabilities. Most state constitutions are explicitly Disenfranchised Voters are those who have been deemed mentally incompetent or guardianship by the court. for example, Iowa’s Constitution Disqualifies “people deemed mentally incompetent by the vote.” Such regulations have been implemented in recent years Increased scrutiny Potentially Constitutional guarantees of equal protection in violation of federal law.

State constitutional education rights for students with disabilities

Public education is like that Key areas of state constitutional litigation Since the US Supreme Court decided on the US Constitution Does not provide education rights. in “Education Funding” incidentlitigants turn to the state’s constitutional provisions that acquire children. Public education Relief for flaws and inequality in education funding.

Many of these state constitutional school funding cases are seeking More funding to support students with disabilities. For example, earlier this year, the Wyoming Trial Court Found Congress had underfunded public schools in violation of the state’s constitution. Among the court’s findings, the decision that the state has not spent enough money on mental health counselors has been reported to have stated that the state has not spent enough money on mental health counselors.Special questions student. “Pending lawsuits Kentucky The state claims it is not spending enough money on special education teachers who have been certified in violation of the state’s constitution.

Potential future litigation field

The state’s constitution has its own provisions regarding disability services that may serve as the basis for establishing rights. For example, the Washington constitution contains a clause It requires states to “foster” and “support” agencies for the benefit of people with disabilities. Some supporters, including a former judge of the Washington Supreme Court, have been Proposed The plaintiff will file a suit under this clause on behalf of people with developmental disorders or psychiatric needs.

Criminal justice is another area where state constitutions can provide opportunities for litigants. A juvenile defendant in a shooting at a famous Michigan school Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder He sues his life sentence without parole on the grounds that pronouncement of a child equivalent to dying in an intellectual disability or prison is a violation of the state constitution. Cruel or unusual punishment clause. The Michigan Supreme Court was recently published Multiple decisions Extend clause protections beyond federal protections.

Finally, some states, including Ohio and Wyoming, adopted a “freedom of health care” amendment to the state constitution of the 2010s, opposed to the Affordable Care Act. In recent years, creative litigators have persuaded state courts to interpret these Widely expressed regulations Protect Abortion rights and transgender rightscreating a potential roadmap for future health-related disability rights litigation in the state.

••••

The national constitution is not a static historical artifact. It is a dynamic arena that can provide strong evidence of the rights of people with disabilities and quietly erode.

Certainly, state constitutions do not necessarily provide more protection to the disabled community on the whole. Some states I’ll continue to apply Cleburn Under the equal protection analogue of state constitutions, many state constitutions still contain outdated and harmful languages such as “inappropriate” and “fool” that perpetuate negative stereotypes and are widely rejected by the modern disability rights movement. However, voters can support new constitutional protections and initiatives to renew their constitutional language, as seen recently, to respect people with disabilities. Nevada and Alabama.

With federal civil rights enforcement facing increasing uncertainty, the state constitution provides a flexible and often overlooked route for defenders of disabled people to fight for progress and justice.

French resort town cracks with “semi-naked” visitors

The French resort towns showcase fines for people found to be walking anywhere except the beach in topless or swimsuits.

Authorities at Les Sabs Darrons, in the Wende region of France’s Atlantic coast, have announced a fine of up to 150 euros ($175) for people walking in the “semi-naked” town, according to a Facebook post released Tuesday by Mayor Yannick Moreau.

The railing against topless men, Moreau criticized “indecent behaviour.”

Post announcing fines at Les Sables D'Olonne

“It’s a matter of respecting locals who don’t want people to wander half naked around their town,” he wrote.

“This is also the basic hygiene rules in the market, our shops and the streets,” added Moreau.

“If you want to show off the best swimming shorts from Baek and Les Sabls, then you have 11 kilometres of beaches at your freedom,” he said.

Moreau’s post was accompanied by the image of a poster announcing the fine, with the catchphrase “In Les Sables D’Olonne, respect doesn’t go on holidays.”

The move appears to be well received, with many Facebook users leaving positive comments under the mayor’s post.

“Thank you Mayor. I don’t think this is completely unbearable,” writes Dominic Kamio Martial.

Claire Goulauen added:

However, some suggest that there are times when we worry about things more important, such as dealing with crime.

Les Sables D’Olonne is the latest in a series of French towns that are cracking down on what is considered rude behavior.

At Alcacon, another popular holiday spot on the West Coast, authorities also introduced a fine of 150 euros for those who undress and walk around town.

In the south of the country, the town of La Grande Motte introduced a fine of 150 euros for dresses that were scarce on any part of the town except the beach and its coastal promenade.

And France isn’t the only one trying to improve visitor behavior.

In 2023, authorities in the Spanish city of Malaga announced that people on the streets, without clothing or wearing public spaces without clothes, or who wear only underwear will face fines of up to 750 euros ($874).

And last September, City Hall posted a sign aimed at educating tourists about appropriate behavior during their visit.

Trump rejects Netanyahu’s claim of starvation in Gaza

President Trump opposed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that there was no starvation among the people of Gaza.

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump has said he disagreed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that there is no starvation among the people of Gaza.

“Based on television, I’d say it’s not particularly so because those kids look very hungry,” Trump said on July 28 when he asked a reporter if he would agree with Netanyahu’s assessment. “But we’re giving lots of money and lots of food, and other countries are now stepping up.”

Trump made his remarks before a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer in Scotland’s Turnberry.

When images of hungry children in Gaza surprised the world, Netanyahu denied Israeli running a hunger campaign, calling such accusations “a bold lie” and even rejecting that star was happening.

“Gaza has no hunger star policy, Gaza has no hunger star,” Netanyahu said on July 27th.

On July 28, the Gaza Health Ministry said at least 14 people have been killed in starvation and malnutrition over the past 24 hours, bringing the casualties of war deaths to 147 from hunger, including 89 children.

On July 27, it announced the suspension of military operations 10 hours a day in parts of Gaza to help Israel put additional food in Gaza, and the creation of a new aid corridor as Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.

Trump said his golf resort was a priority, saying the US has provided $60 million for humanitarian assistance and other countries have to step up.

Trump discussed the issue with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on July 27, saying that European countries would significantly increase their support.

Priority called Mount Hunger in Gaza a “humanitarian crisis” and “an absolute catastrophe,” adding that “the British people are rebelling against what they see on their screens.”

Israel cut off all supplies to Gaza from the beginning of March and reopened its territory in May with new restrictions. Israel says it adheres to international law, but it must prevent aid from being diverted to extremists and blame Hamas on the suffering of the people of Gaza.

“You have many hungry people,” Trump said he later criticized Israeli hostages, a militant group in Hamas for not agreeing to live and die. Trump said he told Netanyahu that Israel’s approach must probably change.

“I told Bibi you had to do that differently,” Trump said.

Tarantula mating season is upon us. Those “horde” braces.

0

These misunderstood, wandering Arknids are simply young men who often seek love. This might see them in the fall of 2025.

play

If you’re hiking or camping in the dry Southwest and West over the next few months, be prepared for lifelong experiences or anything that could be terrifying.

Tens of thousands of tarantulas are raw from their dens looking for women nationwide, in California, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico and Texas.

It’s tarantula mating season.

“If you’re lucky, you can see them in horde that cross the road at certain times of the year,” said Dan McCamish, a senior environmental scientist at California State Parks.

His advice? Leave them alone.

“It’s a wild animal. I don’t want to be picked up, loved, or hugged,” he said. “In general, the seeds are very obedient, but if you handle it, they can bite you.”

Thousands of hairy baseball-sized spiders have chosen a way to go through parks and campsites, and while it may give many people a Heavee Givee, these are commonly misunderstood, wandering Arknid is simply a young man seeking love.

And if they wandered in your tent, they didn’t mean.

“They are actually kind, ecologically valuable animals,” McCamish said. “Mainly they’re interested in getting away from conflict, especially those who know they can crush them.”

Here’s what Tarantulas should know during mating season:

Where in the US does Tarantulus live?

Tarantulas prefer arid climates and live in western and southwest states with predominantly arid, semi-arid habitats. They are prevalent in California, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Oregon and Washington.

But they are also elsewhere. South Florida has a Mexican red rump, and Texas Brown can be found in Oklahoma and Missouri.

There are 29 tarantula species listed in the United States.

Common species include desert blonde tarantula and Texas brown (though Texas has 14 tarantula species). In Arizona, there are even species with fiery red belly.

When are you most likely to see tarantulas in the wild?

Thalantulus lives in these areas all year round, but hikers and campers don’t see much of them as they mostly hold themselves and their nests on the ground.

“Like most of the deserts in the summer, they are generally nocturne,” McCamish said. “So unless you’re out late at night, which is not recommended for safety purposes, you probably won’t see it.”

After that, the weather begins to change in autumn, September, October, and November. “They generally wait for the rain in the first fall season. They really respond to the warmth and moisture increase at the end of summer,” he said.

“They usually go out late at night until dawn,” he said. “That’s when visitors tend to see them,” McCamish said.

“It’s what men see themselves raw. If they come across tarantulas in the wild and they wander, it’s probably a man. A woman who’s waiting for the man to mate if they meet someone who’s sitting in a hole or sitting on a hole,” he said.

Why don’t you see tarantulas at other times of the year?

Both men and women retreat into the den in the winter, where they enter a kind of hardening that is not a true hibernation. In the spring, although not too far from their shelter, they begin their hunt again.

The Arknid build web approaches burrows, beetles, grasshoppers and dens that catch small spiders for food.

“They are ambush hunters. Women weave webs around holes and are sensitive to touch. When insects come across it, the spiders attack and kill them with their fangs,” he said.

Men also go hunting on foot. However, this tends to happen late at night when the desert is alive and alive – and humans are not generally out. That’s why most desert visitors never see them.

Short and harsh reality of male tarantula’s life

Male and female tarantulas lead very different lives. Women can stay near the den, hunt, feed, grow, and live up to 20-25 years.

Men, not that much.

Once hatched, it will create a burrow, and for a few years, typically with fewer than five people, it will slowly grow and molt several times.

When they are ready to go out to find their companions in a cool fall, they leave the burrow and begin sniffing the air for the female pheromones.

The woman comes out of the burrow at night and stays nearby while waiting for the man.

When a man finds a woman and she accepts him, they mate. But it is a brief moment of happiness for a man.

“The harsh reality is that men generally breed and then die,” McCamish said.

Often, women eat mates, although not always. It depends on whether she ate before mating or has adequate food supply.

If a man cannot find a companion, it may dig a hole for another year, but this depends on the molting schedule – if a male spider needs to molt again after it is sexually viable, it may die as he cannot molt the second time.

“Generally, when a man appears, if he fails to find a companion during the season, he is likely to die from fatigue,” he said.

Here’s why you shouldn’t kill a tarantulus

If you see the tarantula, leave it as is. It plays an important role in nature. These large, furry spiders contribute to ecological balance and act as insect controls. They are slowly and patient-walking predators that regulate biodiversity.

Their burrows improve soil aeration and water filtration, especially in deserts during flood events. And after abandoning the burrow, they become shelter for other animals, including lizards, insects and other small mammals, McCumish said.

They are also excellent mid-level ecological stabilizers that tell at a glance whether an ecosystem is healthy or not.

“If there’s a tarantula somewhere, you can generally assume that the habitat is working,” McCamish said.

What do you eat tarantulas?

Tarantulus may seem terrifying as it creates loose leg paths across the landscape, but it is nowhere near the top of the food chain.

They could be food for foxes, coyotes, snakes, owls, skunks – one of the reasons they lie low, except when mating orders send them to dangerous worlds.

There is also a rather terrifying fate that can wait for them. Meet the Tarantula Hawks.

According to McCumish, these are big hornets with bright orange wings and sound like Cessna plane engines, and they sound like Cessna plane engines.

“Their stab wounds are compared to the second or third worst stab wound in the world,” he said.

Stings are not the worst for Tarantulus.

“They land on their backs, bite and paralyze the tarantula, and then place the eggs inside and turn the spider’s body into a live food source when they hatch the larva,” McCamish said.

Are tarantulas dangerous?

Tarantulus doesn’t want to interact with humans more than most people want to interact with them.

“Native American tarantulas pose no serious threat to humans,” McCamish said. The only warning is if someone has had a serious reaction to a spider bite in the past.

In reality, danger only occurs when people try to pick them up or play with them, or get in the way of male and female mating.

They are naturally ti-disease, so it’s okay to observe them from a few feet away. “If it comes towards you, give it to some space. It may be protecting the eggs, or you may have interrupted the mating ritual between a man and a woman,” he said.

When you touch a tarantula, there are small barbed wire hairs on the abdomen, which means that they have hairs on the abdomen called urt hair.

“They can actually flick those hairs from their feet on their backs like darts,” he said. If they get on your skin, or if you pick it up to see it more closely, it will make your eyes worse – it can cause irritation.

How do you persuade the tarantula to disappear?

It’s not uncommon for tarantulas to wander campsites or tents during mating season, McCamish said.

To encourage gently and safely, the best way is to find the stick, give it a “light tickle” on the abdomen, and let it go.

“Give it some light Boop At the base of that abdomen, they generally move in that direction,” he said.

If a tarantula comes into contact with your clothes, bedding, or pillows, it’s not a bad idea to wipe it off, take duct tape, or tap it on the surface to remove any irritating hair that may have been stabbed.

Tarantulas can jump 2 feet

There is one thing to be aware of. These spiders can jump at 1 or 2 feet and enter trees.

“They are ambush predators after all,” McCamish said. “Just because it’s a ground dwelling that doesn’t mean they don’t climb bushes or trees.”

For the first time, two major human rights groups in Israel have criticised Gaza’s genocide

0

A pair of Israel’s leading human rights groups became the first to argue that Israel “confessed genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza.”

B’tselem said in a major report released Monday that it said “along with an investigation into Israeli policies and their horrific consequences in the Gaza Strip and statements by Israeli politicians and military commanders regarding the targets of the attack.”

The second Israeli group, Human Rights Physician Israel (PHRI), has announced that it has joined B’tselem in calling Israel’s actions in the Gaza genocide. We have published another legal and medical analysis documenting what is called the “intentional and systematic extinction of the Gaza health system.”

Israeli government spokesman David Mensah has rejected the report. “We have freedom of speech in this country, but we strongly reject this claim,” he told reporters, adding that Israel has allowed assistance to Gaza.

Israel has consistently acted in accordance with international law, claiming that the war in Gaza was one of self-defense following the fatal Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.

When other non-Israeli groups accused them of committing genocide or genocidal acts earlier, the Israeli government reacts to anger, strongly rejects statements, and often responds with the assertion that the accusations are based on antisensitivity.

In a 79-page report, B’tselem stated that the reality of Gaza on earth cannot be justified or explained as an attempt to dismantle the Hamas regime or its military capabilities.

Release of the findings of the report, Yuli Novak, executive director of B’tselem, said, “There is nothing to prepare you for the recognition that you are part of a society that is committing genocide. This is a very painful moment for us.

“But as Israelis and Palestinians who live here and witness reality every day, we have an obligation to speak the truth as clearly as possible. Israel commits genocide against Palestinians. Our genocide has a context,” Novak said.

The group said Israel’s onslaught in Gaza involves mass murder, both in direct attacks and in creating catastrophic living conditions.

It added that a statement by senior Israeli decision-makers “expressed the intention of genocide through the conflict.”

B’tselem said the report is based on data collected over the past 20 months, including information on “thousands of lawsuits” allegedly committed by Israeli forces against Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Israeli territory.

The group said it used its own information as well as external data collected by thoroughly reviewed organizations.

Phri added that the evidence it collected indicates “the intentional and systematic demolition of the health system of the Gaza Strip and other important systems for the survival of the population.”

“This is not about collateral damage caused by war, but rather a deliberate policy aimed at harming the Palestinian population as a group,” Phri said in a statement.

However, B’tselem says the Israeli government is responsible for the situation in Gaza, but accused the international community of making genocide possible.

“Many national leaders, particularly in Europe and the United States, have not only refrained from effective action to stop genocide, but have made it possible — through a statement supporting Israel’s “right of self-defense” or positive support, they have determined that an international court exists, even after the international court has determined that there is an amount of abused behavior, and that an international court exists.

The group said the sense of revenge, anger and desire felt by many Israelis after the terrorist attacks on October 7 served as “a fertile foundation for instigation against the Palestinians in general, and Gazan in particular.”

Hamas and its allies killed 1,200 people, including children, and lured 251 to Gaza during the attack.

A report from B’tselem has put pressure on Israel throughout the devastating circumstances of Gaza. Images of children dying from acute malnutrition sparked global rage last week, when the UK, France and Germany cited the crisis as “artificial and avoidable.”

At the same time, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is under pressure from all sides from within. The protest calls for an end to the war, and the release of all hostages has grown with strength and frequency, and far-right members of his coalition are growing, threatening to collapse the government if he ends the conflict.

On Monday, five presidents of Israel’s leading universities issued an open letter to Netanyahu, raising concerns about the Gaza crisis.

“In addition to the growing segment of the Israeli masses, we shock the tragic scenes that emerge every day from Gaza, where hunger and disease continue to assert the lives of those most vulnerable,” the university leader said. They added that “they were “approved” by a statement made by politicians who defended the deliberation and forced deportation of Gaza.
of civilians. ”

B’tselem was the first Israeli organization to condemn the genocide government, but many international groups, organizations and governments have come to the same or similar conclusions in the past.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaks to the press after meeting with House Speaker Mike Johnson at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. on July 8th.

The accusations have constantly triggered responses given the severity and sensitivity of the use of the term genocide. This is defined by the United Nations Convention on Prevention and Punishment of Genocide Crimes, as “an act of intention to destroy national, ethnic, racial and religious groups.”

The United Nations Special Committee said last November that Israeli warfare in Gaza was “consistent with the characteristics of genocide,” including the use of large-scale civilian casualties and starvation as a weapon.

Human Rights Watch accused Israel of committing “genocide acts” against Palestinians in Gaza by stealing proper water supplies last December, but Amnesty International said at the same time there was “sufficient evidence” to conclude that genocide was happening on the territory.

The South African government filed a lawsuit against Israel in December 2023, accusing them of committing genocide in Gaza. Ireland joined the South African incident earlier this year.

A top UN court ordered Israel to “all measures” to prevent Gaza genocide in its ruling on South Africa’s demand for emergency measures. This works like a restraining order, with the court considering the full merits of genocide cases and considering a move that could take years.

A prominent Israeli individual has also made the same accusation. This was reported by Omar Bartov, a leading genocide expert in the New York Times, who said, “it was his inevitable conclusion that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinians.”

Israeli historian Lee Mordecai gave a similar point earlier this month, collated a database of what he said, claiming that it was an example of Israeli war crimes in Gaza, and that the evidence he saw was “one of Israel’s highly likely purpose to ethnically cleanse the Gaza Strip.”

Used cars for sale are priced higher. This is where I get mine

0

Driving a used Beat Up car wasn’t necessarily an option, but it became my preference. Older beat-up cars are not for everyone, and vehicle safety must always be paramount. But that’s the slim picking here.

play

Driving a used Beat Up car wasn’t necessarily an option, but it became my preference.

In my lean financial era in my life, avoiding monthly car payments was important. That meant driving the payment SUV all the way to the ground and then turning to the used automatic auction circuit for an incredibly fun series of junkers.

I am fortunate to have the aesthetics of modern vehicles in my neighborhood, a durable ego, a complete short commute to a reliable car shop, and a complete lack of interest.

Older beat-up cars are not for everyone, and vehicle safety must always be paramount.

But it’s slim picking.

Detroit Free Press Autowriter Jamie LaRaw recently reported that the average price of a vehicle three years ago was $32,635, an outrageous one at $9,476 than it was six years ago.

That’s a lot of money. And there are affordable options for drivers that don’t bother you with a bit of rust around the edges. You may need to dig into that old cassette tape collection to dust off to continue playing cruising music.

Here is my case of a humble Clanker car:

1. Clanker Cars Save Me Money

Decades ago, Michigan was able to lease decent new cars for $200 to $300 a month, often without a down payment. Sometimes even less.

Those days seem to be behind us.

So in 2021, after Kia Sportage bites dust in 2008, I paid $1,500 at the 1998 bright red Toyota Camry auction. (Sorry, Union Die Hard. I own a Ford now.)

I dug old cassette tapes from my parents’ basement – Fuger, Seduction, Michael Jackson, Fairs. I spent another $1,500 on repairs and was willing to drive it for two and a half years.

That would cost $100 a month. And the insurance was cheap and dirty.

I sold it to my neighbor for $400 – a bargain because I like my neighbors – and again bought a slightly better vehicle at auction.

This is what I will be following and gradually upgraded along the way, showing off my savings to those who listen.

2. Older cars help to avoid touchscreen frustration

I like the buttons and knobs on the dashboard.

If you need to scroll and swipe to tap on how to turn on the defogger, you have an obligation to curse and spit out the distracting drive tragedy.

I’ve seen the dashboard computer system malfunction until the driver was stuck.

I had the back toasting uncomfortable in the heated seat.

And I spent too much time trying to get my phone to connect to the latest car stereo system via my phone.

Modern amenities aren’t everything they’re cracked. Certainly not $500 a month.

3. Everything doesn’t work. This keeps me ready.

I want to get closer to the reality that everyone can wear a hat and break.

Cancer diagnosis. Bad accident. Stock market crash. Sports betting addiction.

Personal finances can go wrong very quickly and there are 1,001 ways that require serious lifestyle changes.

I want to make sure that when a catastrophe calls, we can handle it. And there’s nothing to say “prepared for poverty” as you have to reach through the window to open your car door.

4. Beater cars are easy to buy

Although it can be long and stressful compared to a typical dealer experience, buying beaters at auctions or directly from other owners is surprisingly smooth and quick.

There are almost weekly online and in-person car auctions across Michigan.

I bought two vehicles and two vehicles with lots in Garden City via Biddergy.com, via Kalamazoo-based online auction house, as well as many other fun junks. (I didn’t inspect either vehicle before purchasing them, but I’m a madman.

All you need to do is create an account and use some degree of suppression when it comes to bidding. It’s easy to get caught up in a competition that tries to outperform everyone else. That can lead to overpayment. It’s important to keep the maximum price in mind.

Auction Houses usually charge a premium of 15%-18% on their final bid.

Opinion warning: Get columns from your favorite columnists and expert analysis of top issues delivered directly to your device via the USA Today app. Do you have an app? Download it for free from the App Store.

Get your key by purchasing insurance and paying in cash. Banks and credit unions may not offer car loans for auction purchases, but they may offer personal loans.

One important strategy when bidding on an online auction: Wait until the end of the auction time slot and place your bid. That’s when all serious buyers make their bids. If you jump early and turn your back, someone will swipe the bargain from your hand.

5. Owning a Hooptee will help you learn life lessons

The first order of business after purchasing that hooptie is brought to the car shop for safety inspections.

Forced the process of finding a reliable repair shop, learning about the most commonly needed replacement parts, and knowing how to diagnose daily problems, have seriously enriched my car knowledge.

This experience has given me the ability to make some of the easier fixes myself.

Shopping waste for parts is next in my personal syllabus Jalopy Maintenance 101.

I grew up in Dearborn and lived in Detroit. Not a car enthusiast is always a bit unsettling about my auto city identity. Learning the basics of automatic repairs has fixed it. Even if I’m not completely grateful for the car.

6. Honestly? Driving a junker is a bit fun.

The SUV I drive is not a regular Ford Explorer.

This is the 2014 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor with 157,000 hard-earned miles.

It was previously owned by the Westland Police Station.

There are no rear seats. There is plenty of room for activities.

It had a pair of bright spotlights, and I lit up basketball hoops and outdoor work areas at night.

That’s also very fast. I haven’t found a safe way to really take advantage of that attribute yet. However, when merged with the highway, rapid acceleration can help.

And the CD player gave me an excuse to pull out the old libraries of treasures from the 1990s and early 2000s.

7. I flabbergast my friends and family

My parents certainly don’t get it. They know I can probably afford a somewhat good car and I think they are embarrassed by my car choice.

But the kids in my family love to play in the old police car.

Traffic tends to slow my area as my private vehicle shape is still cheating on many drivers. It’s big and intimidating, so I slowly and quietly pull my friends up and give them a good fear. Ddents and tips definitely mean nothing, so hitting the pole or rubbing them down on a tree branch is a good laugh.

The Camry could have been an even better conversation piece. Once I was temporarily left behind at Bell Isle and refused to start after a free press softball game. However, after learning a simple tip through YouTube, I opened the hood and used softball to pound the starter several times. A fun and unrefined trick was the eternal Toyota engine that would ring like a kitten in a few minutes. It was a victory that was unlikely to lift my spirit for days.

“It’s going to last forever,” I heard many times in the drive-thru windows and toll booths.

I didn’t do that. At least I don’t own it. But the memories are probably the same.

Trump trade deal with the EU brings bailout (and worries) in Europe

0

With European trade contracts, the US imposes 15% import duties on most EU goods – half of the rate of threatened is much higher than Europeans wanted.

play

BRUSSELS – European governments and businesses responded to both relief and concerns in the framework trade agreement with President Donald Trump on Monday, acknowledging what was deemed to have avoided a deeper trade war.

The agreement, released on July 27 between two economies, which make up almost a third of global trade, places the US imposes 15% import duties on most EU goods – half the rate of threatened but far more than what Europeans wanted.

However, many of the details of the transaction were not immediately known.

“One thing is clear as we are waiting for details on the new EU-US trade agreement. This is a moment of relief, but a moment of celebration,” Belgian Prime Minister Bad de Weber wrote about X.

Trump said the deal, which includes an investment pledge that exceeds the $550 billion deal signed with Japan last week, would broaden transatlantic ties after years of what he called an unfair treatment of U.S. exporters.

It brings clarity to European manufacturers of cars, planes and chemicals. However, the EU initially wanted a zero-duty transaction. And the baseline tariff of 15% is compared to the average US import tariff rate of around 2.5% last year, with an improvement in the 30% endangerment rate, which is about 2.5%, before Trump returned to the White House.

European Commission chief von der Reyen, who described Trump as a tough negotiator, told reporters on July 27, “the best we can get.”

European stocks opened on July 28th, with the Stoxx 600 four months high and all other major blues also in the green. High-tech and healthcare stocks led the way.

German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz welcomed the deal, saying it avoided a trade dispute that was hit hard by Germany’s export-driven economy and its large automotive sector.

“The 15% rate is better than the market was afraid,” said Mohit Kumar, an economist at Jeffries.

It’s not the end of the story

EU leaders respond to Trump’s tariffs, trade contracts

European Union leaders have responded to President Donald Trump’s 15% tariffs and a $600 million US investment contract, warning of a new trade order.

The French government minister said on July 28 that the contract has several benefits — nonetheless, it was unbalanced, including exemptions that some French business sectors wanted to see, such as Spirits.

Industry Minister Marc Ferracci emphasized that more consultations are needed before the deal can be formally concluded.

“This is not the end of the story,” he told RTL Radio.

Meanwhile, European companies were wondering whether they would support the agreement or lament.

“People who are hoping for a hurricane are grateful for the storm,” said Wolfgang Große Entrup, head of the German Chemical Industry Association VCI.

“A further escalation is avoided. Still, both sides are priced higher. European exports are losing competitive. US customers are paying tariffs,” he said.

Stellantis shares have risen 3.5%, auto parts maker Valeo has risen 4.7%, and German pharmaceutical group Merck Kgaa has risen 2.9%, a sign of relief for these sectors.

But among the many unanswered questions, the EU’s promise to invest hundreds of billions of dollars in the US and rapidly increase energy purchases can turn into reality.

It was not immediately clear whether a specific pledge was made regarding the increase in investment, or whether details would still have to be slammed.

The EU has also committed to making a strategic purchase of $750 billion over the next three years, including oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and nuclear fuel, but the US will struggle to produce enough to meet that demand.

This is because the US LNG capacity will almost double over the next four years, but it is still not enough to increase supplies to Europe. Oil production is expected to be lower than forecasts earlier this year.

Despite the lingering unknown, analysts stressed that the transaction will help reduce uncertainty. Similar to the euro, oil prices rose on Monday.

“Now, it’s become more clear, so you’ll think there’s a little more willingness to look at investment, see expansion and see where the opportunities are, not just in the US, but around the world.”

Thailand and Cambodia agree to agree to a ceasefire just days after the fatal collision

0

Cambodia and Thailand agreed to an “immediate and unconditional ceasefire” that began late at night local time (1pm on Monday) a few days after clashing across the borders of both countries.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who has intervened peace talks as the current chairman of the Malaysian Association of Asian Countries (ASEAN), regional bloc, will convened a meeting of Cambodia and Thai regional commanders on Tuesday, July 29th.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and acting Thailand Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai met at the prime ministerial bureaucrats of Putrajaya, just south of the capital Kuala Lumpur.

Figures from Thai and Cambodian officials say both sides have launched their latest border flare-ups, accusing them of trading liability for the ongoing combat that killed at least 35 people and wounded more than 200 people. The conflict over their borders dates back decades.

Thai residents who fled their homes after a cross-border clash will celebrate at a shelter centre in Surin Province, Thailand, after hearing an announcement of an immediate and unconditional ceasefire on Monday.

Leaders showed at a joint press conference that the battle would soon halt despite the clashes Monday morning hours before the peace talks. Cambodian authorities have said the Thai Army has been experiencing clashes in three provinces, but accused the Thai army of attacking at least two locations early.

The US and China also participated in ceasefire negotiations. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said U.S. State Department officials were on the ground Monday to help with negotiations.

US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that Southeast Asian countries agreed to a ceasefire talk, but localized fighting continued throughout the weekend. Trump said he warned Thai and Cambodia leaders not to trade with either country if a fatal border dispute continues.

“This is an important step to alleviate tensions and restore peace and security,” Hun Mane said in a statement confirming the ceasefire.

He also announced that both countries will establish a General Boundary Commission for Cambodia and Thailand. It will host its first meeting on August 4th, hosted by Cambodia.

“Today’s results reflect Thailand’s desire for a peaceful solution while continuing to protect our sovereignty and our people’s lives,” Phumtham said at a press conference. “We have agreed to a ceasefire that will take place in good faith by both sides.”

Malaysia is ready to deploy its teams to ensure “implementation and observation” of the ceasefire, Ibrahim added that both Thailand and Cambodia will resume direct communication at the level of the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Defence Minister.

Over the past decades, Thailand and Cambodia have developed complex relationships with both cooperation and rivalry. The two countries share a 500-mile (800-kilometer) land border, mainly mapped by French when they ruled Cambodia as a colony.

The recent tension has been simmering since the May encounter in May when Cambodian soldiers were killed.

Cambodian soldiers are standing in a truck carrying a Russian-made BM-21 rocket launcher traveling along the streets of Oddal Sibesh province on July 26, 2025.

Relations have worsened following the release of leaked calls between Thai Prime Minister Paetong Tarun Sinahura and Cambodia’s father, Hun Sen. In the call, Paetongtan could be heard calling Hun Sen Sen “Uncle” and appeared to be criticizing the actions of her own military in the border conflict.

The recent flare-up comes after five Thai soldiers were injured in a mine explosion last week.

It was followed by days of fatal clashes and heavy weapon fires across conflict-boundary borders, kicking out more than 139,000 people from seven Thai provinces, as well as at least 80,000 people from Cambodia.

Fix:
This story has been updated to correct the time when the ceasefire will take effect.

US stock futures after Trump’s EU trade agreement

0

play

U.S. stock futures have risen high after President Donald Trump launched a trade deal with the European Union ahead of the August 1 deadline.

The deal, like recent agreements between Trump and other major trading partners, including Japan, include 15% tariffs on most European goods that have entered the United States. The collection is higher than the 10% percentage Europeans are seeking, but below 30% of Trump, threatened at the beginning of July. Pharmaceuticals, steel and aluminum are not included in the customs contract.

Additionally, the EU will invest $600 billion in the US and buy $750 billion worth of US energy, Trump said.

“For now, more disadvantageous scenarios seem to be avoided, and while this is great news, we still don’t know if everything is ‘big and huge’,” said Karsten Bruzesky, global head of macros at Dutch banks.

At 6am on ET, futures tied to the Blue Chip Dow rose 0.17%, with Broad S&P 500 futures rising 0.26% and Nasdaq futures rising 0.45%.

Separately, the US and China are expected to extend the tariff ceasefire by another three months, the South China Morning Post reported. Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent and China’s deputy prime minister are planning a meeting in Stockholm.

A busy week ahead

With trade agreements that mitigate tariff fears with the largest US trading partner, investors will rely on profits and the Federal Reserve policy meeting to seek more direction.

The seven more so-called grandiose megacup technology companies will report their quarterly results. Includes Facebook Parent Meta and Microsoft. Amazon and Apple.

According to LSEG Ibes, overall quarterly revenue has increased by 7.7% from a year ago, as roughly 30% of S&P 500 companies report results. This is higher than forecast for July 1, with a 5.8% increase.

Meanwhile, no one expects the Fed to lower prices this week, but investors are looking for clues to see when. The Fed says the economy is showing resilience and will wait to see how Trump’s tariffs will occur.

At the end of the week, after the Fed meeting, investors will look at more inflation data and key monthly employment reports to see if the labour market will continue to be maintained despite the tariffs before and after Trump over the past few months.

Ice, immigration, Walmart stab wounds, Hurricane, Israel, Gaza, Football, Tariffs, Interest rates: Daily Briefing

0

good morning!🙋🏼‍♀️I’m Nicole Forelt. Do you know what “MKT” means in the menu?

Take a quick look at Monday’s news:

ICE deported these teenagers and children in immigrant raids

Seats at Martir Garcia Lara in the fourth grade classroom were empty on May 29th. Classmates in Torrence, California continued their school day.

He probably won’t return to school this fall: Martill is one of at least five children and teens who have been rounded up to ice and deported from the United States since the start of President Donald Trump’s second term of office.

  • “Martil’s absence ripples across the school’s barriers”: The boy and his father were separated for a while and taken to an immigration detention facility in Texas. They were reunited and deported to Honduras.
  • Now, schools are brave for the start of the semester. Teachers and students told USA Today they fear they will remain with many immigrant students before the new academic year.
  • The White House says The Trump administration’s immigration agency has not targeted children in the attacks. However, many people with no criminal history have been arrested and deported, including children picked up with or on behalf of their parents.

More immigration compensation from USA Today: Farmers say few people have reborn residents. Agricultural Workers Visa Programs can be costly, burdensome and limited. And they say that Congress has not acted for years.

The suspect faces horrifying charges with stabbing wounds in Walmart, Michigan

Authorities said they attempted murder charges against a Michigan man accused of filing terrorism and injuring 11 people in a stinging rampage at a local Walmart. Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michaelcia said on July 27 that bystanders were “absolutely instrumental” to prevent further injuries after the attack began on July 26th at about 4:43pm. One of the intervening citizens was armed with guns, Shia said. One witness said she saw the three people with stab wounds as she fled the store. “There was blood everywhere,” she said.

Hurricane season warning signs stacked

While maps of hurricanes in the Atlantic may be quiet now, forecasters say that it may not last that long as some signs point to increased activity throughout the basin. So far, there have been three named tropical storms (Andrea, Barry and Chantal), so the number of storms during this period is actually above average. Over the past week, water temperatures have skyrocketed seventh warmest in the satellite record (back to 1981), running slightly cooler than 2017 and 2005 at this point in the season. At the same time, experts say the water belt just north of the tropics has cooled since the start of the season, creating a more fostering direction that prefers rising air and storms in the tropical Atlantic. There are more signs than roughly referring to hurricane season.

Israel suspends military action in Gaza as starvation spreads

Starting Sunday, Israel will suspend daily military operations in parts of Gaza, increasing the decline in aid to enclaves as it faces international fuss over reports and images of hungry Palestinians. Aid groups have been criticizing Israeli leaders for months over the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The country blocked supplies to the region at the beginning of March before reopening the aid line with new restrictions in May. Where is the ceasefire talk?

National Chicken Wing Day deals, free food, discounts and more

play

National Chicken Wing Day may have been cooked in Buffalo, New York, but indulging in food has become a national excuse.

In 1977, Mayor of Stanmakowski, then New York, Buffalo, celebrated on July 29th, National Wing Day, “thousands of pounds of chicken wings are consumed every week by buffalo and tavern buffaloonists.”

This is the Smiggen of the amount of wings consumed annually in the US, and has ordered more than 1.2 billion wings in the 12 months to be completed in June 2025. This is a 1.5% decrease from the previous year.

The history of chicken wings still stirs up debate, but cooking occurred in the 1960s, flourished in the 1980s, whole chicken dishes faded, and consumers began to prefer entree chicken breasts.

When chicken wings became a bonding food, the flavors expanded beyond traditional buffalo sauces to even more Hotter spicy sauces, in addition to sauces and frictions such as bourbon, lemon pepper, mango and teriyaki. And of course there is the boneless wings that have hit the menu since 2003 when Buffalo Wild Wings introduced the dishes.

According to Toast, a digital restaurant payment platform used by over 140,000 restaurants, chicken wing prices have risen slightly at restaurants over the past two years, up 2.4% compared to a year ago.

To help you save, many wing-centric restaurants have something special for National Chicken Wing Day. Here are some things to consider. Check out our local restaurant’s social media accounts as well.

Legislators update women’s history museum push

Lawmakers are updating bipartisan efforts to inflate the Women’s History Museum at the National Mall.

play

Washington – At the party’s intersection in a rare congressional effort, Democrats and GOP lawmakers are seeking funding for the new Women’s History Museum in the National Mall, which will be participating in a museum celebrating African-American and Native American history.

Supporters of the Smithsonian American Museum of Women’s History said it was important to have a place to showcase the important roles of women in the United States.

“The history of our country was shaped by powerful, pioneering women whose stories deserve to be told,” Florida Rep. Cat Cammack, co-chairman of the Republican Women’s Caucus, said in a statement.

Members of the Democratic Women’s Caucus and the Republican Women’s Caucus sent a letter on July 21, urging the Congressional Committee to help fund the museum.

The effort faces major hurdles, including a Trump administration campaign to eliminate diversity initiatives and pushing for a significant reduction in federal spending by Republican Congressional leaders.

“It feels like an absolute, difficult effort to make people remember that we are still fighting for this,” Michigan Democrat Hillary Scholten told USA Today.

A bipartisan effort: “Really unique”

Republican and Democrat lawmakers, including Rep. Carolyn Maloney of DN.Y., have long pushed the museum to join other Smithsonian Association museums, including the National Museum of American Indians and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Sen. Susan Collins, a Republican from Maine, and the late Democrat from California, the late Diane Feinstein, have introduced steps to establish the museum in 2020. Congress approved a package that includes the Women’s History Museum and the Latin National Museum of America. President Donald Trump then signed the legislation.

There have been related bills over the years. One is to build a museum at the National Mall, and the other is funding it.

Scholten and others acknowledge the challenge of getting funds this year, but last week urged the House Budget Committee to include it in their spending bills.

“We wanted to prioritize that. We wanted to keep women’s history (the museum) in mind because when things close, “remember, not how important this is when you move forward,” she said.

Debbie Walsh, director of the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University’s Eagleton Institute for Politics, said the fact that both Democrats and Republicans support the museum should help.

“It’s great to see this coming from the women on either side of the aisle,” she said.

Scholten, the vice-chairman of the Democratic Women’s Caucus, said some women lawmakers are united together on the issue. She noted that there are several other bipartisan efforts in the Congress, including the Congress softball team.

“(We) will be united to make this happen so that we can tell the story of a female changemaker over the years,” she said.

“So many important stories that need to be told”

Despite bipartisan support, some Republican lawmakers opposed the creation of museums that they say are based on “group identity.”

In 2020, Senator Mike Lee of R-Utah blocked the law creating a Latinos and Women’s History Museum, which said, “The last thing we need is to divide a country that has already been divided further.”

The Trump administration is pushing to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in all federal agencies. Earlier this year, Trump signed an executive order bombing agency that said it had spread “divisive ideology.”

The order was named several Smithsonian Society Museums, including the Women’s History Museum.

Walsh said efforts to share the history of women and people of color are labelled Day or dangerous, but will help fill the country’s history talk.

“It’s not taught that schools, young people, young women, young men – we all need to know this history,” she said.

Trump shows signs of support for women’s history museums. At an event at the White House in March, Trump told Rep. Nicole Mariotakis of Rn.Y. that he placed the museum in the National Mall in support of her bipartisan bill.

“You get it and we’re going to back it up 100%,” he said at the event this spring.

Scholten said supporters welcome a meeting with Trump to discuss the museum.

“We want to have an audience with him and explain the importance of this museum and why there’s no reason why it can’t happen now,” she said.

Kansas Deputy was fatally shot in response to a domestic obstruction call

Authorities said sheriff’s deputies were killed on July 26, responding to domestic disturbance calls in Kansas City, Kansas.

The Kansas State Police Department, Deputy Director Elijamin of Wyandott County and Kansas City officers, responded to a citizen standby call at about 3:30pm on July 26th, the county sheriff’s office said in a statement. As authorities approached the residence, the sheriff’s office said the man fired and hit the Ming.

Several other sheriff deputies and officers responded to the scene and exchanged shootouts with suspects, according to the county sheriff’s office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. The suspect, later identified as 38-year-old Sean Harris, was injured during the exchange of shootings and barricaded inside the residence.

Ming was taken to an area hospital, where he later died of injuries, the county sheriff’s office said. The suspect was also taken to hospital after he left the house and surrendered to police.

“Deputy Elijah Min was killed from the injuries sustained in the shooting,” Wyandott County Sheriff Daniel Soptic said at a July 26 press conference.

The suspect was released from the hospital around 11:30am on July 27th and was arrested for capital murder by a law enforcement officer, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

He is currently being held unconfined at the Johnson County Jail, online prisoner records show. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation states that formal charges are pending and investigation into the case remains ongoing.

What happened in the Kansas City shooting?

Authorities received a call before 3:30pm on July 26th, demanding that law enforcement be accompanied by the woman when she moved from her residence “due to concerns about her safety,” the Kansas Bureau of Investigation said in a statement.

The woman told authorities that when her friends tried to help her leave the house, Harris threatened them with a firearm. Kansas State Police Officer arrived at his residence around 3:45pm after Min and Kansas City.

A preliminary investigation revealed that as Ming and the officers approached the house, Harris fired multiple rounds at them, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation said. The round ended while the unidentified officer was not injured.

Several law enforcement officials then responded to the scene and exchanged firefights with suspects as they tried to provide assistance to the supervisor, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Harris was shot while barricaded inside the house in a shootout.

“The vice-chairman was taken to hospital. Despite life-saving measures, he died of injuries,” the Kansas Bureau of Investigation said.

Local law enforcement responded to the scene shortly after Kansas law enforcement officials called the Kansas Bureau of Investigation for assistance from the Department of Assistance and negotiated with Harris over the phone, authorities said.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital in “good condition” and treated for his injuries, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation said.

Law enforcement officers were killed in duties

At least 49 officers have died in duties this year, according to data from the Officer Down Memorial Page, a nonprofit organization that collects dates for law enforcement officers, prison officers and police dogs who died on US missions.

Earlier this month, the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund reported that the number of law enforcement experts who died on missions in the first half of 2025 fell by about 53% compared to the same period in 2024.

The organization previously reported in January that the number of law enforcement experts who died in duties increased from 118 in 2023 to 147 in 2024.

According to the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund, 22 officers died in firearms-related incidents in the first half of 2025.

“We lament that we will document at least one such death, but we are encouraged by how this data is currently prevalent,” Bill Alexander, CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund, said in a statement on July 8th.

Are you worried about Alzheimer’s? According to a new decade of research, start walking

0

If you need another reason to take the daily steps, science has handed it over to you.

New research shows that walking daily can reduce the risk of cognitive decline, especially among people with genetic predisposition to Alzheimer’s disease.

Approximately 3,000 participants between the ages of 70 and 79 reported on their daily walking habits over a decade, according to a survey published at the annual Alzheimer’s Disease Association International Conference. Those who reported maintaining or increasing walking habits over the years had significantly improved processing speed and executive functioning.

According to preprints that have not been peer-reviewed or published in professional journals, the benefits of walking were particularly prominent among people with genetic predisposition to developing Alzheimer’s disease.

“The kinesiology of the University of Calgary in Alberta,” said Dr. Cindy Balha, assistant professor of kinesiology at the University of Calgary in Alberta. “So I recommend reducing sedentary behavior by introducing small matches while you need to sit.”

Alzheimer’s disease is a severe form of dementia, which is thought to be caused by the accumulation of harmful plaques in the brain that prevents how nerve cells communicate, ultimately leading to their death, Barha said.

As more neurons die, people with Alzheimer’s disease can develop progressive memory loss, confusion, personality changes, and physical decline. Ultimately, the disease can be fatal and no known treatment is available.

Genetics is thought to play a major role in disease. Specifically, a genotype called APOE affects the metabolism of plaque and other fats throughout the bloodstream. Certain types of ApoE4 are known to make it difficult for the brain to clean plaque and are associated with a higher risk of cognitive decline.

About 15% to 25% of people carry this version of the APOE gene, according to data from the National Institutes of Health.

Mind and body connection

Although the new study did not test a uniform walking regimen, Barha suggests that multiple times daily walks and sedentary behaviors should be split up, and maintain consistent walking habits each year to prevent cognitive decline.

“It takes more research to determine the number of steps you actually need, but it definitely gets better than that,” she said. “The next step is actually trying to figure out the minimum walking amounts of women vs. men, APOE4 carrier vs. non-carrier in different subgroups (e.g.).”

A 2022 study found that even people who walked about 3,800 steps per day at any rate reduce their risk of dementia by 25%.

What is happening between the brain and the rest of the body? Experts have several theories.

One is like a brain fertilizer, as it has been shown to help the body produce more proteins called brain-derived neurotrophic factors or BDNF, which helps to grow more cells and form new connections.

“We believe that there are proteins that are released from muscles that migrate into the brain and that start a response that goes beyond the blood-brain barrier or blood-brain barrier and ultimately leads to an increase in BDNF in the brain,” she said.

Another theory is that exercise reduces neuroinflammation, a common symptom of Alzheimer’s disease.

The brain sends immune cells called microglia to attack plaque accumulation, which can backfire, explained Dr. Christian Lann, an associate professor of medicine at the Center for Cardiovascular Research at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Chronic inflammation can cause microglia to launch attacks on healthy brain cells, causing damage to brain connections.

“Exercise really strengthens the gene expression program that microglia need to function properly,” Ran said.

Researchers were surprised that walking provided the greatest benefits to people with the APOE4 gene compared to those without it. It will likely require more research to understand why this is, but Barha has a theory.

“I think before the research began, APOE4 careers had more room for cognitive growth, as they may already have experienced cognitive decline,” she said. “They also have room for improvement.”

The study itself also may motivate participants with the APOE4 gene to walk more than before, slowing down the rate of decline.

“This is a very powerful example (it) it’s never too late to start exercising,” Ran said. “Every step is important and it’s far better to do an exercise regimen you actually like. You can actually stick to it.”

Live Update: Israel pauses some Gaza fights as aid trickles reach the hungry Palestinians

0
Hungry Palestinians wait for hours under the burnt heat to receive food aid in Gaza city on Sunday.

Children and elders clean the trash cans for food. Fatigue sends people to hospitals. Your friends are so wasteful that they can’t recognize them.

This is the reality facing the aid workers at Deial Bhara in central Gaza, a UN spokesperson on earth told CNN on Monday.

Beyond the guesthouse’s main entrance, Celevko said people of all ages were witnessing people ramming through scraps on the streets.

“I myself don’t recognize my friends because they look so thin,” she added.

Last week, Israeli tanks were pushed into Deia al-Bara, an area that had previously not seen ground operations in the 21-month war.

The city is packed with refugees. Now it is one of three areas in Israel’s “tactical pause” zone, with over 100 trucks providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza on Sunday.

“Inefficient” Airdrop: More supplies are being poured into the air from Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. But humanitarian workers are urging that this is not sufficient to “even damaging the surface.”

“Airdrops are a very inefficient way to provide assistance,” Avrile Benoit, executive director of borderless physicians, told CNN on Monday.

“What we really need is to reopen the borders of those lands and allow all the trucks to come in.

Benoit says it’s not just a quality issue, but also the quality of the aid that enters the strip, highlighting the importance of professional foods to treat malnutrition.

“We can’t give rice, ridges and grains. We need something more substantial to help us recover from all of our medical outcomes in the short term,” she added.

She added that malnourished children in particular need micronutrient-rich therapeutic foods.
