British Rock icon Terry Reid dies at age 75

0

Singer-songwriter and guitarist Terry Reid has passed away from the British powerhouse, once courted by Rock Titans’ Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. He was 75 years old.

Reid’s death was confirmed on USA Today on Tuesday, August 5th in a statement from his record label, Cleopatra Records. The company shared that “I am deeply saddened by the death of my friend and collaborator Terry Reid.” The date of Reid’s death and the singer’s cause of death have been revealed.

“Terry wasn’t just a legend. He was a true original,” the statement read. “In his voice there was an unusual magic that could shake the room or break the heart. But beyond the voice, Terry was warm, funny, and totally himself. Working with him was never a business.

In recent months, Reid said “had been bravely fighting cancer and many other serious health issues,” according to a GoFundMe page set up on behalf of the singer.

The fall tour has been postponed due to his illness health.

Born in St. Neos, England in November 1949 to Walter and Grace Reid, Reid’s voice skills were evident from a young age. As a child, Reid accompanied a local orchard who worked seasonally in a local orchard where he was a fruit picker, where he accompanied him to a local orchard.

Reid entered the world of professional music in his teens, and at the age of 15 he joined the rock band Peter Jay and the Jay Walkers. During this time, Reid was featured in music producer Mickey Most.

As a member of Jay Walker, Reid embarked on a joint tour of the UK in 1966. When Yardbirds broke up, the lead was drafted by guitarist Jimmy Page, and the next group, the new Yardbirds, was drafted.

Terry Reed opens up a rock and roll legacy

Reid, who had recorded his debut album and was about to tour with the Rolling Stones, turned down a lead vocalist gig with the new Yardbird and proposed his song Pier Robert Plant instead.

“It was the perfect combination,” Reid reflected in a 2007 interview with the Independent. “What would have happened if Jim and I got the band? It could have been a bloody failure.”

The popular rock vocalist famously handed over the offer to replace Rod Evans, the lead singer of British heavy metal band Deep Purple. “It was very flattering. Richie (Blackmore) was a hell of guitar players,” Reid told the Independent.

Reid released his solo debut album, “Bang, Bang, Bang Youue Terry Reid” in 1968, and quickly followed it in 1969 with his self-titled sophomore album.

The lead songs are covered by a wide range of artists, including The Hollies. Crosby, Stills & Nash; Cheap Tricks; Marianne Faithful; Jack White’s band the Lacon True.

“Over the years, we have praised us for working together on several projects, each touching his soul and spirit,” Cleopatra Records said in a statement. “Whether you rethink the classic song or lend his voice to a new sound, Terry has brought something timeless and unique.”

The statement concluded: “We missed the late-night call full of stories, laughter, and passion and wild ideas. Terry lived the music. He was music.

Reid was survived by his wife Annette.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki: The world remains traded in nuclear threats, so the world will be marked 80 years after the US dropped an atomic bomb on Japan

0

The world is approaching its 80th anniversary of the first use of nuclear weapons in Hiroshima, Japan, near the end of World War II, so the planet is closer to seeing it being used again than it had been in decades. Experts and survivors warn.

At Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park on Wednesday morning, the decline in high-ranking officials and survivors was set to commemorate the moment on August 6, 1945, when a US B-29 bomber known as the “Little Boy” dropped an atomic weapon known as the “Little Boy.”

Over 110,000 people were killed immediately in the attack, but hundreds of thousands of people have died over the years from injuries and radiation-related illnesses.

To this day, they remain the only era in which nuclear weapons have been used in war. Still, these weapons continue to present a very current threat.

“We don’t have much time while facing a bigger nuclear threat than ever,” said Nihon Haidankyo, a grassroots organization in Japan that won the Nobel Peace Prize for pursuit of nuclear abolition last year, before the ceremony. “Our biggest challenge right now is to change the state of nuclear weapons that give us a little cold shoulder.”

Modern tensions have just been reflected in the past week as nuclear sabers are pissed over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine between Russia and the United States. And in recent months, the US has attacked Iran’s nuclear facilities with powerful traditional bombs to stop Tehran’s nuclear program.

Earlier this year, nuclear forces urged India and Pakistan to fight a brief conflict over the long, contested rule of Kashmir, scrambling and avoiding dangerous escalations between the two.

“We see a clear trend in the growth of nuclear weapons, shortening nuclear rhetoric and abandoning the arms control agreement,” said Han Christensen, senior fellow associate fellow for the Weapons of Mass Destruction Program at the Stockholm International Peace Studies (SIPRI) Institute.

The surprising nuclear trend played a major role in driving the Doomsday Clock, which was founded earlier this year in 1947, and the Doomsday Clock, which approached the planetary disaster from 89 seconds to midnight.

The clock only moved from 90 seconds to 2024, but a 2025 report states that small differences are not a reason to celebrate.

“As the world is already at risk on a cliff, even a second should be seen as a sign of extreme danger, and an undeniable warning that delays in reversal of courses increase the probability of a global disaster,” the move’s press release states.

The group also considers “destructive technologies,” such as climate change, biological threats like the pandemic and biological age, and the malicious use of artificial intelligence when setting up watches.

However, the nuclear threat was at the forefront and center of their report, released at the end of January.

“Nationals that own nuclear weapons are increasing the size and role of their arsenals, investing hundreds of billions of dollars in weapons that can destroy civilization,” a report from Doomsday Clock said.

The Hiroshima atomic bomb, which has an explosive yield of 15 kilotons, is considered by today’s standards as a low-yield nuclear weapon. The largest nuclear weapon in the US arsenal is 1.2 megatons, 80 times the yield of the Hiroshima bomb.

Experts warn that a single modern nuclear weapon could instantly kill millions if it explodes in a metropolitan city.

According to Cipri, there are over 12,000 nuclear powers in the hands of nine nuclear powers: the US, Russia, China, France, the UK, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel.

Almost all of these countries “continued their intensive nuclear modernization program in 2024, upgraded existing weapons and added new versions,” Sipri’s latest annual report states.

The report says that the US and Russia hold about 90% of the world’s nuclear weapons, but they own about 90% of nuclear weapons, but the number of nuclear powers is growing or they plan to raise arsenals.

China is at the forefront of growth, adding around 100 nuclear warheads a year. This is a trend Sipri expects to continue.

India is believed to be added to its stockpile, and the UK is expected to be expected soon, the report says.

Meanwhile, North Korea shows no signs of retreating its nuclear state. Kim Yeon Jong, a powerful sister to state leader Kim Jong, said last month that Pyongyang will not abandon its warhead in exchange for discussions with Washington and Seoul.

“An attempt to deny DPRK’s status as a nuclear weapons nation will be thoroughly rejected,” she said.

Kroger has closed two more stores in Houston, Texas, adding it to its growth list

Kroger announced in June that it would close a total of 60 stores nationwide over the next 18 months.

play

Two more low-performing Kroger stores will be closed in Houston this year, adding to the list of locations closed nationwide.

Kroger stores at 9325 Katy Freeway and 2300 N. Gessner Road will close this year, Kroger Corporate Affairs Manger Shayna Barrett told USA Today on August 5th.

Employees at these stores will be offered the opportunity to move to new locations, Barrett added.

Two Houston locations have been added to the Kroger family’s growing list of closing stores. The chain announced in June and plans to close 60 locations across the country within the next year and a half. Kroger operated 2,731 stores at the beginning of the fiscal year. In other words, closures account for around 2% of all locations.

Why does Kroger close the store?

Kroger Interim CEO Ron Sargent said in a June 20 conference call that the closing stores were unprofitable. However, Kroger reaffirmed during a call that plans to spend between $3.6-33.8 billion this year on capital expenditures, including building new stores and expanding and renovating existing stores.

The closure comes after Sgt. takes over as CEO of Rodney McMullen. Grocers are searching for new CEOs nationwide.

What other Kroger locations are closed?

Kroger has not released a full list of stores that are planning to close, but news of some specific closures has come up.

Some closures are revealed by the chapters of United Food & Commercial Workers, a trade union representing approximately 1.3 million retail, meat packing and food processing workers in the United States and Canada. Others have been reported by local media or confirmed by USA Today. As previously reported by USA Today, this is a running list of Kroger and Kroger family stores tapped for closures.

Donald Trump says JD Vance is “most likely” to lead the GOP in 2028

“He’s doing a great job, but perhaps he’s going to like it at this point,” President Donald Trump said of his 2028 Vice President J.D. Vance.

play

Is Vice President JD Vance an heir to President Donald Trump’s Magazine movement?

“Maybe,” Trump said on August 5th, asking a reporter questions.

Trump has delved deep into 2028 speculation and said in the past it was too early to debate who will lead the GOP after him.

When asked by Fox News shortly after the election if Vance was his chosen successor, Trump said, “No, but he’s very capable.”

“Too early,” he added.

Trump again said on August 5th it was “too early” to discuss Vance as his successor, but admitted he has the advantage as vice president.

“He’s doing a great job, and he’s probably going to like it at this point,” Trump said.

Trump messed around with the idea of running for president again, despite the US Constitution banning him from seeking a third term. But the president said he wasn’t while he wanted to run again.

When asked in a CNBC interview if he was going to “run again,” Trump said “probably not.”

“Perhaps not,” he said, laughing, a second time.

ESPN, Redzone channel to buy NFL networks. The league will regain 10% equity

play

The ESPN and NFL have a ring on it. I hope that means a big win for the viewer.

As originally reported by Athletic last week, ESPN’s relationship with the league is further intertwined following the announcement of a non-binding agreement that will acquire “NFL networks and certain other media assets owned and controlled by the NFL), acquire other media assets, including the NFL linear red zone channels, and exchange NFL fantasy in exchange for 10% shares of ESPN,” the party said, “also has entered into a second non-binding agreement that will license certain NFL content and other intellectual property used by the NFL in the NFL network and other assets.”

In addition to making billions more, the NFL is selling costs essentially related to in-house broadcasting. At the same time, its products gain even broader distribution and innovative benefits.

The NFL Network continues to broadcast seven games per season, with ESPN enjoying its benefits, particularly supplied to pending consumer services. NFL Fantasy Football and ESPN Fantasy Football will merge.

“This is an exciting day for sports fans,” ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro said in a statement.

“By combining these NFL media assets with ESPN’s reach and innovation, we are creating the best destinations for football fans. ESPN and the NFL are redefineing how fans engage with the game anytime, anywhere.

The union’s crumbs were obvious for a while.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport is a frequent guest on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show” and hosts it. This is an unusual arrangement of entities that appear to be set up as a competitor when the league created its first major arm to create its own broadcasting division with the launch of the NFL network in 2003.

Rich Eisen, the original face when he left ESPN to start ESPN, is essentially revealed as the new anchor on ESPN radio. Former NFL network reporter Peter Schlager, a longtime cast member of NFL Network’s morning show “Good Morning Football,” jumped to ESPN earlier this year.

What does this mean for the audience? Hopefully Even better and broader coverage of the league.

Entertainment Goliath has been an essentially important others for decades through Sunday nights, Monday nights and more recently through many years of choice opportunities. “NFL Live” is an hour-hour afternoon show, a staple in the network’s weekday lineup, and Cable Giant’s morning shows usually devote most of their airtime to NFL news and analysis.

The original programming of the NFL network, along with its workforce, has been steadily reduced over the years. Despite the new campus adjacent to Sophie Stadium in Inglewood, California, “GMFB” is currently a two-hour show (one for four hours), but is now the only regular studio show in the NFLN lineup. The nightly “Insider” show has replaced “NFL Total Access,” the network’s long-term sports center equivalent, but essentially airs from the reporter’s home as the league chose to reduce the production costs associated with having nightly studio shows. During the season, the network was stripped of Sunday night highlight shows and daily fantasy shows.

But last weekend, they didn’t even anchor Eisen and Hall of Fame Analyst Cart Warner in Canton, Ohio. Original GMFB cast member Kyle Brandt wore a sports centre shirt on the Monday broadcast.

According to the NFL and ESPN, “The transaction is subject to negotiations by parties to the decisive contract, various approvals by the owner of the NFL team, and customary closure terms.”

Trump says he was not told about his move to Texas prison

0

President Donald Trump said he had no idea that convicted sex trafficker Gislaine Maxwell would be transferred to a Coossia federal prison in Texas. The move has infuriated the victims and their families.

play

President Donald Trump said he had no idea that he would be redirected to the Cusia Federal Prison in Texas after interviewing convicted sex trafficker Gislaine Maxwell in July.

“I had no idea about it,” Trump said on August 5th. A reporter asked if he had approved the transfer. “I read about it the same way you did.”

Maxwell was recently moved from a low-security federal prison in Tallahassee, Florida to a minimum-security federal prison camp in Brian, Texas. Her new home also includes Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes and celebrity housewife Jen Shah.

Trump said anything requested by his assistant attorney general, Todd Blanche, is “completely appropriate.” Blanche, who personally represented Trump at the 2024 New York Criminal Trial, interviewed Maxwell in Tallahassee, Florida, but it is unclear what exactly the closed door discussion came.

The government has not made public the transcripts from the interviews, and has not revealed whether it will lead to increased justice for Epstein and Maxwell’s victims.

“That’s not too unusual,” Trump added Maxwell’s move. However, not everyone agrees with the characteristics.

“It’s a country club,” former federal prison guard Robert Hood told the Washington Post about Maxwell’s new home. “Inmates don’t go to such places if they have sex offences. That’s really unheard of.”

Blanche interviewed Maxwell as the Justice Department tried to quell public outrage over the decision not to publish the FBI’s investigation file in Jeffrey Epstein, who died awaiting a federal sex trafficking trial in 2019.

Maxwell, Robert Maxwell, daughter of a well-known British media mogul, was convicted in 2021 of small numbers of sex trafficking. Her seemingly positive prisons are driving the enraged victims and their families.

“President Trump sent a clear message today. Pedophiles deserve priority treatment and their victims are not important,” the surviving brother of Epstein’s victim Virginia Giuffre, who died of suicide in April, said in a statement along with Epstein’s victim Annie Farmer and sister Maria Farmer.

Trump has been friends with Epstein for many years, interacting with both the dishonest financial figure and Epstein’s ex-girlfriend Githlane Maxwell. The friendship ended around 2004.

Epstein pleaded guilty to two Florida prostitution crimes in 2008 and was arrested by federal authorities in 2019 for sex trafficking charges. A New York chief examiner ruled that his death at Manhattan federal prison that year was a suicide.

Nigeria seizes more than 1,600 exotic birds in one of the largest wildlife trafficking busts over many years

0

AP

Nigerian customs said they seized more than 1,600 parrots and canaries that had been transported to Kuwait from Lagos International Airport without permission, along with the seizure of the largest wildlife trafficking in years.

The attack is a sign of positive change in the fight against illegal wildlife trafficking as Nigeria is a major hub for global trade with protected species, Mark Oua, a spokesman for West Africa for international non-governmental organization Wild Africa, told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Customs agents seized two protected species, a ring neck paraquite and a green and yellow frontal canary, at the airport on July 31st.

Nigeria is the signatories of the International Trade Treaty for Endangered Species Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.

A statement from the customs agency said the cargo did not come with other documents necessary to prove that the lawsuit was legally obtained.
Nigeria’s customs said there is an investigation to discover that the illegal cargo manager is ongoing and that birds will be handed over to the National Park Service for rehabilitation and release into the wild.

Ofua said Nigeria’s porous boundaries, widespread corruption and weak enforcement will make it a key transport for ivory, pangolin scales and other wildlife products for Asia.

He added that trafficking of illegal wildlife around the world is valued at between $8 million and $10 billion a year.

Tennessee runs Byron Black amid disability, pain concerns

0

The execution refused to intervene because of the inmates’ intellectual disability and heart devices after Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee refused to respond to requests from some Republicans.

play

Tennessee executed a man for the murder of his girlfriend and her two young daughters despite arguments that he suffered from intellectual disability and concerns that his heart device shocked him during the fatal injection.

The state executed Byron Black on Tuesday, August 5th after Gov. Bill Lee refused requests for intervention from lawyers, advocacy groups and even Republicans. He was declared dead at 10:43am.

“This hurts very badly,” Black said during the execution, news media witnesses reported seeing him die and showing signs of distress.

On March 28, 1988, Angela Clay and her eldest daughter, 9-year-old Latoya, were shot dead in bed. Clay’s other daughter, Lakesha, 6, was found dead on another bedroom floor with multiple gunshot wounds.

Black will be the 28th prisoner to be executed in the United States this year, with at least nine executions scheduled for a 10-year high. He is the second inmate to die this year in Tennessee after five years of executions in the state.

The black case stands out for two reasons. His legal team said that “an indisputable intellectual disability” had sought a lot of reprieve, including some Republicans. His lawyers then raised serious questions about whether Black’s implanted heart devices would violate the US Constitution and cause “long-term tortured executions.”

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skulmetti told USA Today that expert testimony “refutes the proposal that black people will suffer severe pain if executed, and asks the nation to “take responsibility for his horrific crimes.”

This is something you need to know about the issues surrounding enforcement, crime, and cases.

What happened during Byron Black’s execution?

Several members of the news media who witnessed Black’s execution said he appears to be showing signs of pain, and he says he is in pain. His spiritual adviser, who was with him throughout the process, told him: “Sorry.”

Black refused to say his final words in the Death Room, but gave his lawyer a message instructed to deliver to his friends and family later.

“I love you, and I will never forget you,” Black said, Henry. “All of our relationships were very special. We were able to meet everyone and we connected to each other. God bless you and thank you.”

According to Henry, Black said about his mother that he knows what happens when he sees her in heaven.

Henry had harsh words against the government to ensure that the executions could continue.

“What happened here was the result of a pure, candleless coli disease,” she said. “It was the brutal and unidentified abuse of government power… Today, Tennessee has killed someone with mild, kind, vulnerable, intellectually disabled, violating the laws of our country, simply because they can.”

She added, “We witness the erosion of the rule of law and all the principles of human decency in which this country was established. Today was Byron. Tomorrow will be someone you care about.”

USA Today had contacted Tennessee officials for comment.

Why was Byron Black convicted of?

Black was found guilty of fatally shooting his girlfriend, Angela Clay and her two daughters, 9-year-old Latoya and 6-year-old Reikisha. They were murdered on March 27, 1988.

At the time, Black had been released from prison in 1986 for shooting and killing Benny Clay, the father of Clay’s alienated husband and daughter. Prosecutors told the ju judge at the trial that Black killed Angela Clay because he was jealous of her ongoing relationship with her ex.

Investigators believe Angela Clay and Latoya were shot while they were asleep, and it appears Reikisha was trying to escape after being injured in her chest and pelvis.

Benny Clay previously told Tennessee, part of the USA Today Network, that he believes Black is staring at him. “My kids, they were babies,” he told the newspaper. “They were smart, they’re going to be something. They didn’t get a chance.”

Recently, he told Tennessee that he had forgiven black people, but he was planning to attend the run.

“God has all the plans,” he told the newspaper. “He had plans when he took my girl out. He needed more than me.”

The judge ordered that Byron Black’s heart device was removed before the execution

On July 22, a judge ordered that developments that seemed to complicate the matter as Nashville Hospital refused to participate should be implanted in black that they would need to be removed at the hospital on the morning of his execution.

However, the Tennessee Supreme Court overturned the judge’s order, and the U.S. Supreme Court supported it, clearing the way black people were executed despite the heart device.

His lawyers argued that devices designed to revive the heart could lead to “long-term tortured executions.”

“It’s scary to think of this frail old man being shocked over and over again, as the nation works to kill him will try to restore the rhythm of his mind,” Henry said in a statement.

The state claimed that Black’s heart device did not cause his pain.

Maher’s Robin, executive director of the nonprofit death penalty information center, told USA Today that inmates executed with defibrillator implants are “a completely unprecedented problem.”

But she added, “I fear that we will see again when the nation moves towards execution of aged prisoners on death row.”

Tennessee Governor refused to intervene

In a debate over Black’s heart device at the end of the legal path, his lawyers turned his attention to his last few days and his intellectual disability, calling on Tennessee Governor Bill Lee to prevent a “grotesque spectacle.”

Citing the fetal alcohol syndrome and exposure to toxic lead, Black’s lawyer said mental disorders mean that they must always live and rely on family members. Recently, on death row inmates, his lawyer said other inmates had to do his daily work for him, such as cleaning his phone, doing laundry and microwave his food.

“If you ask the governor to sue him to admit generosity, or at least give him a reprieve,” Henry said in a statement.

The Tennessee Conservative Director, who is concerned about the death penalty, said he supports accountability for those who have committed violent crimes, but said “it is clear that we will not execute people with intellectual disabilities.”

“Governor Lee can assure him that he will follow the law while asserting accountability. This is exactly why the governor has such a tolerance,” Jasmine Woodson said in a statement. “Mr. Black spent more than 30 years in prison for this crime and will never be released. As a conservative, I believe he should stay behind the bar, but he should not be executed.”

Lee’s office did not respond to repeated requests for comments from USA Today.

In a statement to USA Today, Attorney General Skrmetti pushed back the discovery that Black was intellectually disabled, saying “for decades, the court uniformly denied Black’s 11 different attempts to overturn his murder conviction and death sentence.”

Angela Clay’s family has long been seeking justice

“It took a long time,” Angela Clay’s sister, Lynette Bell, said after the statement.

“37 years is too long,” she said. “His family has come 37 years ago and now they’re going through the same thing. I’m sorry, because they’ve never apologized. He didn’t apologise, and he didn’t admit it in his dying bed… he took it with him to the grave.”

Clay’s mother, Marie Bell, 88, thanked God for “come here to see this closure.”

“I hope we can be at peace from this day,” she added.

Outside the prison before the execution, Angela Clay’s nie, Nicole Davis, told Tennessee “it’s time to celebrate.”

What was Byron Black’s last meal?

Black’s final meal was pizza with mushrooms and sausages, donuts and butter pecan ice cream.

Byron Black’s execution is the second state this year

Black is the second inmate to be executed in Tennessee this year after a five-year break from the state’s death penalty. The break followed an independent review that the Tennessee Department of Corrections found that it had not tested consistently performed drugs for efficacy and purity.

Nationally, nine more executions are scheduled this year, with more executions expected to take place as the governor signs more death jail warrants. The next execution was on August 19th at Kale Barrington Bates, Florida, for the stab wounds of a 24-year-old woman named Janet White in 1982, where she was lured from her office and took her into the woods before Bates beat her, attempting to rape her, and eventually killed her.

Mexican prosecutor was killed in a drive-by shooting caught in a film

0

A federal prosecutor in Mexico was killed in a drive-by shooting that shocked the country after video footage of the attack was circulated online.

The footage shows a prosecutor sitting on the road in the border city of Reinosa, Tamaulipas province, shortly after his car set fire to it. The white vehicle then drives the past, with multiple gunshots coming through. The prosecutor fell to the ground and then remained unmoved. It is not clear what caused the fire.

The Mexican Attorney General’s Office has identified the murdered man as Ernesto Quitlack Vasquez Reina, who worked in Tamaulipas.

Reinosa scene. Some of this image has become obscure due to graphic content.

Although Monday’s attacks were still under investigation, preliminary information suggested it could be linked to an organized crime gang targeted by authorities recently.

It pointed to a seizure by security forces last month of more than 1.8 million litres of stolen fuel.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Tuesday that her security cabinet would contact state and federal prosecutors and “do justice in this case.”

In a post on X, Governor Tamaulipas, Americo Villarreal, condemned the attack, expressed solidarity with the prosecutor’s family, offering to help “the Attorney General’s office and the Mexican government seek to build justice and peace.”

Reinosa is the most populous city in Tamaulipas, with around 700,000 residents. It is located across from Rio Grande from Hidalgo, Texas.

BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, announced in June that it would offer a 401(k) covered date retirement fund, including private investments that recorded an opening date in 2026. Other retirement planning providers are doing the same thing.

And it is expected that the Trump administration will soon sign an executive order seeking federal guidance on adding private investment to its 401(k) plan, the Wall Street Journal’s first reported move.

Companies investing in private assets are pushing to gain access to the $12 trillion market 401(k) and other “defined” workplace retirement plans.

Private equity companies raise funds to buy and sell companies for profit. Investors are usually very wealthy individuals or institutions. Private credit markets lend money to companies or individuals outside the banking and fixed income industries.

Regular retirement savers have had little access to private investment in the past. According to Investopedia, the minimum investment in private equity funds could be in millions, or at least hundreds of thousands. Your money may be tied up for years.

Here are the reasons why wealthy investors prefer private equity

But there’s a reason for it being wealthy investors and donation managers like private equity funds.

“They have actually scored 1-2 percent points over the stock market,” said Robert Brokamp, senior adviser at Motley Fool.

Private equity generated an average annual revenue of 10.5% from 2000 to 2020, according to Investopedia. Other estimates range higher. Private equity is considered an alternative to high-risk returns to the stock market.

“We’re committed to working with people who are looking for a way to help us,” said Keith Singer, a certified financial planner in Boca Raton, Florida.

It is on top and has a sudden drawback.

Private companies face less regulations and reporting requirements than public companies. It may be hard to make God how much money a private company makes.

“These are private companies and as a result, they become less transparent,” says Brokamp. “That’s part of the reason people stay private. They don’t want to do all the regulatory submissions that come with being public.”

Since the mid-1990s, the number of public companies has “approximately half,” Brokamp said. Private companies tend to stay private longer and later provide public inventory.

Stock is dangerous. Private equity can be risky.

Stocks have risk, but the retirement benefits that spend money on S&P 500 index funds are “an investment in a fairly well-established company.”

In contrast, private equity often involves struggling companies. Bankruptcy is high.

“Private equity is more risky than public equity,” said Caleb Silver, editor-in-chief of Investopedia. “It’s essentially speculative because we invest in companies that may not have a track record in some cases.”

Given the risks, Silver suggests that daily retirement savings should not invest “over 10% of your portfolio” in private investment. “It’s simply too risky.”

Some of the new 401(k) offers appear to be tailored to manage that risk. BlackRock, for example, will offer private investment within the broader covered date retirement fund.

Covered date funds generally offer a combination of stocks, bonds and other investments, and the mix becomes more conservative as you approach retirement. The new BlackRock fund allocates only 5% to 20% of its holdings to private investments.

Private equity tends to be illiquid. Investors generally think that money is tied up for months or years. In contrast, a 401(k) usually allows you to buy and sell investments every day.

However, if your private equity is sitting in a fund with a target date, that’s not so much of a concern.

In 2020, the Trump administration issued a “information letter” dictating that 401(k) type retirement plans could be invested in private equity without violating federal regulations. The law requires 401(k) managers to act for the best interests of investors and protect against great losses and excessive fees.

Is private equity too risky for a retirement saver?

However, some observers fear that the risks of private investment may be too sudden for everyday retirement savings.

In June, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D. Massachusetts) wrote to EMPower CEO about her plan to provide private investment in her 401(k) account.

“Given the weak protection of investors in the sector, lack of transparency, expensive management fees, and unfounded claims for high returns, we are looking for information on how your company can protect the safety of billions of dollars in retirement savings to implement this program,” writes Warren.

Empower responded essentially that after decades of exclusion, retirement savings deserve a crack in the private investment market where retirement savings are favorable.

“Empower believes in the democratization of private investment,” writes Empower CEO Edmund F. Murphy III.

Still, Thomas Gahan, managing director of Procyon Partners, a financial advisory firm in Shelton, Connecticut, said leaders in the 401(k) industry would “feel more comfortable” about private investment if legislation is approved.

Gahan predicts that more 401(k) providers will offer private investment as an eligible daily funding option, as BlackRock plans. “I think it’s a stepping stone,” he said.

The 401K industry could ultimately allow retirement savings to be made up of funds that are entirely made up of private investment, Gahan said, but he said it probably doesn’t allow laws that explicitly allow investments or executive orders from Trump.

“This happens over time,” he said, “not overnight.”

Trump says the FBI could arrest Texas Democrats who fled via rezoning

President Donald Trump said the FBI might help arrest Texas Democrats who fled to other states to block Republicans’ district change plans.

play

“President Donald Trump may have to arrest Texas Democrats in their homeland after the FBI fled to block plans for Republican districts where more than 50 people could turn the US Capitol upside down.”

“A lot of people are demanding they come back. You can’t just sit there. You have to go back,” Trump said at an August 5 press event.

Trump made his remarks when Sen. John Cornyn, a Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn, asked about the FBI “takes appropriate measures to take appropriate measures to find or arrest Texas law enforcement.”

Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety to arrest Democrats on August 4th. His order was designed to force lawmakers to exempt lawmakers to comply with civil arrest warrants that National Republican lawmakers voted to issue earlier in the day.

But it was not clear how Texas law enforcement could bring Democrats back to Texas when they were in a state where local law enforcement might not be willing to execute warrants. Many of them went to the Chicago area of Illinois. There, Democrat Governor J.B. Pretzker greeted them. Others went to Boston, Massachusetts and Albany, New York.

“A lot of people are demanding they come back,” Trump said on August 5th.

2025 VMA is becoming a night for the music “Mayhem.”

MTV has revealed candidates for the annual Video Music Awards Show. This is a pop-stick spectacle that brings together the biggest artists of the year to celebrate top songs and music videos of the fan-choice. This year’s ceremony will air live on CBS at 8pm on September 7th from UBS Arena in New York.

Returning to music this spring, pop icon Lady Gaga returns to music with her acclaimed album Mayhem, leads the nominations with 12 nods, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year and Best Album. Gaga’s “Die with a Smile” collaborator Bruno Mars is closely behind with 11 nominations.

Other top candidates include hip-hop Juggernaut Kendrick Lamar, Blackpink Singer Rose, Pop Princess Sabrina Carpenter, “Wicked” star Ariana Grande, Weeknd, alternative pop singer Billy Eilish and British pop star Charli XCX.

Pop Titan Taylor Swift, the most embellished solo artist in VMA history, has also won an Artist of the Year nomination despite not releasing a new music video this year. In 2024, Swift took home numerous prizes including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration (“Fortnite” with Post Malone), Best Pop and Best Direction.

Last year’s VMA was full of career milestones and knockout performances. Electropop diva Chappell Roan crowned the best new artist and dominated the stage with her breakout hit “Good Luck, Babe!” with medieval-themed numbers. Meanwhile, Carpenter won her first moon man in Song of the Year (“Espresso”), performing a cheeky medley number where she saw the lips on her lips along with an alien dancer.

Fans can vote for 19 gender neutral categories by visiting votes until 6pm on September 5th. Voting for Best New Artists will continue to be active at the ceremony on September 7th. Social category nominations will be announced at a later date.

Save money on sales tax holidays. See the complete list of 17 states.

0

play

While kids aren’t ready to hear about going back to school, many state sales tax holidays can help parents save shopping back to school.

That’s especially important this year, as shoppers say there’s more emphasis on tariffs and economic uncertainty.

There are 17 states with sales tax holidays if certain purchases made for the school are tax-exempt.

Four states had sales tax holidays in July, with the remaining 13 states holding holidays in August.

In July and August, 17 states take sales tax leave.

Most tax-free shopping days give you a sales tax break for school-related items, such as clothing, shoes, electronics, and supplies. Two states, Ohio and Massachusetts, can extend their sales tax holidays to include more items than schools.

Florida expanded its return to school sales tax holidays to include a month from August 1 to August 1 to August.

Next weekend: There are tax-free holiday events in three more states. In addition to Maryland (August 10th to August 16th), Massachusetts (August 9th and August 10th), Texas (August 8th to August 10th), Ohio and Florida.

Connecticut will be the last state to hold sales tax holidays from August 17th to August 23rd.

A complete list of participating states, details of what is tax-free, and a snapshot of how shoppers feel.

Shopping back to school has already begun

Early school shopping has already begun and has increased in July. This year, 26% of school shoppers had already begun browsing and purchasing by early June. That’s up from 22% last year, 17% in 2019.

Shoppers often like to buy early to broaden their budgets and get early deals and promotions.

A major change occurred in July. When 57% of the family were shopping for their grades and college students, they said they started shopping, Catherine Cullen, vice president of industrial and consumer insights for the National Retail Federation, told reporters during a media briefing since 55% last year.

The big concern, according to shoppers, is tariffs. Three-quarters, or 74% of those surveyed, said they were shopping earlier this year because they feared that tariffs could rise in prices later this season.

“In June, people were a little more worried about their finances and decided, ‘Hey, maybe I’ll buy what I need and restock later that year,'” Karen said. “It was in July, ‘No, I need to stock up and store it because things can be much more expensive in the second half of the season or later in the year.”

Sales tax holidays help consumers save more, Karen told USA Today in a previous interview in June.

“Customers and retailers alike enjoy the benefits of sales tax leave,” she said. “These tax-free events help drive customers to stores and increase sales as they may purchase additional items that customers have not been shopping for that day.”

Shoppers worry about inflation and tariffs

The average K-12 shopper budgets on average $858 per student, from an average $875 per student, while those who buy for college students this year are expected to spend $1,326 from last year’s $1,365, according to the NRF. According to the NRF survey, 76% of shoppers expect a higher price tag for what they need this year.

And while average spending is expected to decrease, total spending is expected to increase as shoppers prioritize essential categories, Karen said. Overall, back-to-school spending is expected to reach $128 billion this year, up 2% from last year, she said.

Still, there are categories that shoppers will pull back. The biggest one is electronics, Karen said.

A return to school survey by Deloitte estimates that spending on K-12 shopping will remain stable at $30.9 billion or about $570 per student. That’s down $16 from last year. But while the overall spending figures remain stable, low-income parents (who make under $50,000) said they plan to spend more than 10% this year, while middle-income and high-income families have pulled back, saying they are 7% to 9% less.

Another study by CoreSight Research states that 68% of shoppers limit the amount inflation spends shopping back to school, 73% of shoppers expect prices to rise, while 64.9% expect product shortages.

“Back to school 2025 is shaped by measured optimism. While consumers are willing to spend more money, economic pressures such as inflation and tariffs are driving them to seek value more aggressively,” Coresight Research analyst Madhav Pitaliya told USA Today.

Does my state have school supply sales tax leave?

According to the Federation of Tax Administrators, a report by USA Today, what is the list of states participating and what is the tax exemption? Rules and dates vary by state, so check the state website for the most updated information. In some cases, local taxes may still apply.

If the dollar amount is not listed, the state does not appear to indicate a expenditure limit for that item. Links to most state holiday details are hyperlinked to the names of each state. Generally, most online purchases are also eligible for sale tax leave, but please check the state requirements.

According to the Tax Foundation, five states do not charge sales taxes throughout the year: Alaska, Montana, Delaware, Oregon and New Hampshire. Some Alaska municipalities are charging sales tax.

Trump administration ends mask’s “Five Things” email

The Human Resources Administration said on August 5 that MUSK was revoking the controversial weekly email that directed federal workers to submit five achievements.

play

WASHINGTON – The Trump Administration’s “Five Things” emails are on Elon Musk’s path.

The Human Resources Administration said on August 5 that Musk directed federal workers to submit and detailed their workloads and five achievements when overseeing government efficiency, invalidating the controversial weekly email.

“We contacted the agency HR lead that OPM will no longer manage or use five processes internally. At OPM, we believe that managers will be informed of what their team members are working on and have many other existing tools to do so.

Musk declared infamous that failure to respond to email constitutes the employee’s resignation. The announcement in late February received a strong push back from the department head, and OPM immediately told agency leaders that participation in the survey was voluntary.

The OPM’s decision to end the initiative was first reported by Reuters. Musk left the White House in May and has since announced plans to form a third party.

Alekroon, an American journalist who went missing after a hike in Norway National Park

Search and rescue volunteers are fighting the bad weather and heavy rains in search of American journalists who went missing while hiking in Norwegian National Park.

Alec Rune, a climate journalist from Wisconsin, is an experienced hiker and has completed many solo trips under challenging circumstances. He was reported missing by his wife Veronica Silkenko on Monday after he was unable to return home.

Silkenko told CNN that she last spoke to Rune on Thursday as she was set out for a hike in Forgefonna National Park in southwestern Norway.

“We exchanged some texts. He told me he was going to do a hike and sent me a photo. He looked fine, the weather was fine,” she said. It was the last thing she had heard from him.

Silchenko said she was always “a little worried” when Rune was hiking, but also knew that the phone signal was patchy in the wilderness and that she didn’t worry too much until a few days later.

“I started to worry a bit on Sunday, but I thought it was Norway and it was totally normal for no connections in the mountains, so I decided (wait) to do something if he wasn’t back online on Monday,” she told CNN in a phone interview. “On Monday, he should have left the park by then and we decided we needed to call the service because we could have possibly found the internet.

The Norwegian Red Cross said in X that the search operation launched on Monday was expanded on Tuesday. He said volunteers and search and rescue dogs were involved.

Norwegian Red Cross spokesman Ingeborg Thorsland told CNN the operation was spreading across a wide area and heavy rains made navigation difficult.

“Around 30 volunteers from the Red Cross and other organizations are involved in the business. The search team is locally familiar with the terrain and has proven to be particularly challenging due to the difficult situations and harsh weather,” she said.

When the weather was allowed, drones were also in use, she said, and the alpine rescue group also assisted in the search.

CNN has asked Norwegian police for comment.

Rune, 38, works at outlets such as National Geographic, The Guardian, The New York Times and Atlantic. He currently lives in Moscow and Istanbul before being based in London.

“He’s a very kind and loving person. He loves nature. He devoted his career to writing about climate change, especially ice and the Arctic,” Silkenko told CNN.

“He’s very strong and adventurous, he’s not a fool. Alec is my favorite person in the world and I miss him so much. I hope he’ll come back as soon as possible,” she said.

Trump praises Sydney Sweeney jeans ads that revive “hate” for Taylor Swift

  • Donald Trump criticized Taylor Swift as being true social and insisted that he “is no longer hot” because he expressed his dislike of her.
  • Trump said he hated the mega-pop star a few days after he supported his opponent, Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.
  • Trump’s criticism of Swift was part of a massive post that also commented on Sidney Sweeney, Jaguar and Bud Wright.

President Donald Trump has revived criticism of Taylor Swift, one of the world’s biggest pop stars.

Trump posted on True Social in support of Sydney Sweeney on August 4th. Sidney Sweeney was at the heart of the debate over her American Eagle advertising campaign. The ad features Sweeney in all denim, and she plays the word “jeans” and “genes.”

During the discussion about the ads, Sweeney surfaced as a registered Republican in Florida, and when he spoke to reporters on August 3rd, Trump was quickly by her side.

In subsequent twisting posts about American Eagle ads, Jaguar ads and Budlight boycotts, he set his sights on Swift.

“Look at the awakened singer Taylor Swift,” the post read. “Since she warned the world about the truth that she couldn’t stand her (hate!). She left the Super Bowl and it wasn’t getting hot anymore. The tide turned seriously.

USA Today contacted a representative for Swift.

Taylor Swift supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 election

Swift supported the Democratic candidate after a presidential debate between former vice president Kamala Harris and Trump. Harris has received a historically short campaign after intervening with former President Joe Biden after a disastrous discussion with Trump at the beginning of the summer.

“(Harris) fights for rights and causes. I believe we need warriors to defend them,” Swift told the post. “She is a stable and talented leader and I think we are calm, not confused, and we can achieve more in this country.”

A few days later, Trump worked on a true society to declare, “I hate Taylor Swift,” but his campaign relied on conflict by selling t-shirts with designs similar to those of Taylor Swift Elas Tour products, only playing the face of Trump.

Trump also insisted in May that “she’s not hot anymore.”

Trump threatens legal action against Harris’ celebrity support

Trump said he hopes for a big survey of former Vice President Kamala Harris’ celebrity support in the 2024 presidential election.

On May 19, Trump questioned whether Harris paid Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé and Oprah.

“It was a very expensive and desperate effort to artificially build up her sparse crowd,” Trump said in The Society of Truth. “It’s not legal! For these unpatriotic “celebrities,” “it was a corrupt and illegal way to take advantage of a broken system.”

He didn’t mention Swift, but he said “probably many others” and left the charges open-ended in another post.

However, the Federal Election Commission does not expressly prohibit approvals paid, so the claim is made without evidence.

Austin Dramond, a man at the heart of a few days of manhunt accused of four times murders in Tennessee, was arrested on Tuesday, August 5th.

Drummond was sought in connection with the murders of four people in Lake County on July 29th. He was taken into custody at the Jackson Police Department, according to the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office.

“This would not have been achieved without the tireless work and dedication of our local, state and federal partners,” Sheriff Jeff Box said in a statement.

“Their commitment to clocks and public safety after 3pm on Tuesday was invaluable throughout this investigation. Our citizens were also extremely helpful and supportive. We are always grateful to be happy partners with our agents and investigators,” Box continues.

Drummond faces several charges, including first-degree murder, worsening trickery and being a felony in possession of a firearm.

Drummond was found on Jackson’s surveillance cameras

The incident began on July 29th after a young seven-month-old girl was found sitting in the car seat in the front yard of a stranger near Tigret, a Dyer County community.

Hours later, authorities announced they were investigating the crime scene in Tiptonville, where four people died, revealing that there may be a connection between the incidents.

The victims were identified as 15-year-old Braydon Williams, 20-year-old Adriana Williams, 21-year-old James Matthew Wilson, and 38-year-old Courtney Rose. The victims were the babies’ parents, uncles and grandmothers.

Armed and considered dangerous, Drummond was recently arrested for surveillance footage in a well-known search to track him down. The 28-year-old was seen on Jackson’s surveillance video on August 3rd, wearing a camouflage outfit with a brown backpack. He also appeared to carry a black rifle in his hand.

Three other people linked to Drummond’s Manhunt have been arrested

Authorities have charged three people in connection with supporting Drummond.

According to a statement from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), 23-year-old Dearra Sanders was arrested on August 4 on accessories charges following the fact of first-degree murder. They claimed that Sanders saved Drummond after the murder occurred.

Tanaka Brown, 29, and Giovonte Thomas, 29, were arrested for accessories after the first-degree murder facts on August 1 and August 2, respectively, the agency said in a pair of statements. The update added that Brown was charged with one count of tampering with evidence.

Thomas was already booked at the Madison County Jail on unrelated charges, and was expected to be moved to the Lake County Jail for his arrest, according to a statement.

Drummond has a criminal history

Drummond was sentenced to 13 years in 2014 for robbery and retaliation, according to Memphis Commercial Appeal, part of the USA Today Network. He was released in September 2024, but despite several pending smuggling charges he had and including handguns, he was released.

Five Leadership Mistakes to Avoid

0

Artificial intelligence may be changing workplaces, but for many employees it is increasing uncertainty instead of excitement. A 2025 Pew Research Center survey found that 52% of US workers are worried that AI could disrupt or replace jobs. And in an August 2024 SHRM survey, almost half felt unprepared for automation, while 95% said they didn’t trust their organization to manage their shifts in ways that benefit everyone.

How managers deal with these concerns can either exert or break the team’s morale and productivity. Experts say that clear and honest communication is important, but the wrong message backfires and incites fear instead of trust. Whether you’re deploying new tools or just starting a conversation, it’s important to attract your team with transparency, context and empathy.

Below, two HR experts analyze five common mistakes to avoid when discussing AI with their team, and provide guidance on navigating the discussion more effectively.

1. Behave like it’s not a big deal

According to the World Economic Forum, when managers avoid dismissing or discussing AI concerns, they often pose greater problems.

“Business leaders can’t bury their heads in the sand and want the best,” says Eric Moknatz, operations director at Red Clover HR in New Jersey. “They must pay upfront for the benefits, drawbacks, potential impacts of AI in their business, and areas that do not allow AI to be used.”

Chad V. Sorenson, president of Florida-based adaptive HR solutions, agrees that direct communication is important. “Employees may feel that AI is a threat to their work and may question the motivations of leaders to implement AI tools,” he explains. So, “we will explore ways to deal with fear and AI can reinforce workflows and streamline repetitive tasks rather than replacing workers.”

remove: Don’t underestimate your AI concerns. Acknowledge the employees openly fear and explain how AI supports their work.

2. Throws around “ai” without defining

AI is not just something. Mochnacz explains that there is a big difference between using generated AI to enhance email communications and using AI chatbots to manage all customer interactions. Without these distinctions, employees don’t understand what to expect from workplace changes and how they can remain relevant.

“AI is a very buzzword and leaders don’t take the time to define it and understand the difference,” says Mochnacz. “I attended a meeting where people asked, ‘Can I do this with AI?’ Or “Everyone is talking about AI, so we have to do something with it.”

He emphasizes the importance of clarifying the foundations.

  • What kind of AI do you use?
  • What tasks use it/do they replace it or will they help?
  • How much do you trust the tools to handle these tasks?

remove: Do not use “AI” as an ambiguous catch-all. Clearly define the type of AI you use, what they do, and why they are important to your team.

3. I can’t explain the reason

“Whenever a leader announces a new program or procedure without the buy-in of his employees, there may be fear, skepticism and rage,” Sorenson warns.

Instead of simply telling employees what is changing, explain why your company needs AI. How do you meet your broader business goals? This context helps employees understand their roles rather than viewing them as threats.

“Continuous interactive feedback is important for teams to continually improve how AI is used to improve workflows, processes and outcomes,” Sorenson said.

remove: Do not skip the context. Learn why AI is being adopted and how it supports teams’ goals to build trust and buy-in.

4. Overheap what AI can do

“Leaders who promise that AI will handle everything do not clearly understand the possibilities and limitations,” Sorenson said. For example, AI can help employees understand benefits plans. However, we cannot handle subtle harassment complaints or mental health concerns. “AI systems need to be trained to understand when humans need to intervene,” he adds.

Mochnacz says that when leaders promise capabilities that they may never achieve, the problem gets worse. “I don’t know what AI can do in a month, three months or a year,” he emphasizes. So it’s better to focus on specific tested use cases rather than grand predictions about AI replacing everything.

remove: Don’t make big promises. It focuses on what AI can do realistically today, rather than speculative future capabilities.

5. Exclude people from the process

“Whenever there is a business, industry or technology change, it includes what it may have an impact,” emphasizes Mochnacz. “Converse directly with your people about their role and how they can help AI to become more effective.”

In recent MIT throne working papers, we find that the most successful generated AI deployments are consistently involved with the earliest frontline workers through rollouts. Using over 50 in-depth interviews, MIT researchers demonstrate that adoption not only improves, but also increases worker productivity and quality of work when employees help define problems, collaborate, experiment with tools, and shape fair transition policies.

The key here is to framize AI as a collaboration partner rather than as a threat. Mochnacz is when a leader presents AI as AI, good For everyone, employees are involved in technology. However, when the message comes to “prove that AI can’t replace you,” workers resist because it feels like the ultimate.

remove: Do not make AI decisions in a vacuum. Engage employees early and frame AI as a tool to support their work rather than compete.

How AI communication has turned out

Sorenson says AI communications manifest in poor ways. You may notice more pushbacks at meetings, higher employee turnover, or a surge in uneasy water cooler conversations. These signals suggest that employees may feel exclusion or uncertainty and be prepared for the worst.

In contrast, when communication is clear and comprehensive, team engagement improves. “If an AI communication strategy is successful, employees need to engage in conversation,” Sorenson points out. “They make suggestions to continue to improve their use and show an increase in productivity levels.”

Look for signs of healthy adoption: Employees will ask questions, suggest improvements, and use AI to work more efficiently. When you feel that your team is empowered unintimidated, you know that you have hit the right balance.

DOJ launches criminal investigations on Trump and Russia 2016 investigation

By launching a major juice investigation, the Ministry of Justice escalated its efforts to investigate those behind the long-standing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

According to news reports, the Justice Department has launched a major ju court investigation into allegations that Obama administration officials broke the law when they investigated Russia’s involvement in the 2016 presidential election.

Attorney General Pam Bondy signed an order on August 4th instructing federal prosecutors to present evidence to the Great Ju Court, Fox News and the Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the investigation. The Department of Justice declined to comment.

The move marks a major escalation of the Trump administration’s efforts to investigate investigators behind the long-standing investigation. Robert Mueller, who ultimately took over the investigation as a special advisor, concluded that the Russian government had intervened to help then-presidential candidate Donald Trump defeated Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, but concluded that there was no evidence of collusion with Russia in Trump’s campaign.

The new crime investigation follows the allegations of National Intelligence Director Tarshi Gabbardmaid at a July 23 press conference that promoted a “considered story” in which the Obama administration interfered in making interest in Trump in the 2016 election. That same day, the Department of Justice announced that it would create a “Strike Force” to evaluate the evidence highlighted by Gabbard and the evidence that “we will investigate the next legal procedure.”

On July 22, when Trump was asked about the Justice Department’s conduct regarding the investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, he pointed to the allegations from Gabbard, saying she was “absolutely cold” that Obama had committed treason.

Obama replied that Trump’s comments were “a weak attempt to distract him.”
