How the Army strengthened recruitment through mathematics training and push-ups

0

“They have grit,” Sgt. Drill said.

play

FORT JACKSON, S.C. — Hundreds of hopefuls line up in exposed medium weighted positions at this South Carolina Army Base every Tuesday before dawn, and are measured at any other South Carolina Army Base.

For course trainees, body fat loss could mean shipping out to start an Army career within a few days. Otherwise, these future soldiers will be entrusted to another week of working on the pound.

Predictions and anxiety file one desk at a time when Sergeant Drill file each of their destinies. Some support the joy. Others wipe out their tears.

While these trainees would have had poor test scores 10 years ago and not been cut due to the fight against push-ups, they now make up almost a quarter of new recruits in the US military.

For 21-year-old Briana Flowers, she was on her way to basic Army training within days, as her waistline had dropped by two inches. Leave the line, she spurs out about her plan to indulge in French toast at the dining room at breakfast, breaking the good news for her mother.

“It’s refreshing,” she said. “That’s all I wanted.”

USA Today spent three days with future soldiers and sergeants, seeing first-hand the weapons important in the Army’s efforts to defeat the recruitment crisis. Future Soldier Preparation Course aims to raise young people with academic and fitness challenges to military standards. The program helped the Army achieve recruitment targets, but raised questions about the quality of the soldiers they produced.

Army Recruitment Crisis Creates “Soldiers of the Future” Course

In 2022, the Army announced its future Soldier Prep Course, as a long-standing shortage of recruits tailored to the crisis. That year, the Army recruiting class was 25% shy of the target of 60,000 new soldiers.

Three years later, the Army Recruitment Crisis is a crisis in the recruitment in the rearview mirror, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegses and others say they are hoping for young people to serve under President Donald Trump. The fledgling future soldier preparation course began during Joe Biden’s presidency and played a central role in reversing the recruitment slump.

Over 46,000 soldiers joined the Army through future soldier preparation courses. Since the launch of the course in 2023, it has produced 20% to 24% of the newly-built soldiers in the Army.

Soldiers who will become soldiers in the program will sleep in large open bays in bunk beds. In the meal, the drill sergeant refills with grilled chicken, cottage cheese and vegetables to monitor the tray. Program leaders emphasized that trainees will not be ordered to retrieve their food. They aim to avoid disturbed eating behaviors.

The Army barely set a recruitment target of 55,000 for last fiscal year. This year, in June (four months), we announced that we had achieved our annual target of 61,000 signing contracts.

Hegseth accused the military of lowering standards in the past and vowed to raise combat standards. The Future Soldier Prep course does not violate the administration’s anti-DEI agenda to date.

“You need to fit, not fat. You need to be sharp and not tattered,” Heggs told the Army War College in an April speech.

In an interview this summer, Secretary of Army Dan Driscoll said the course will help the Army maintain standards.

“Every soldier who came out of the preparation course for future soldiers has met that standard without us lowering it,” he said.

This course accepts recruits with up to 8% higher body fat and 7 points lower in Army Aptitude Test scores than the requirements to become a soldier. Over 90 days, they work intensively to reduce body fat and increase their academic scores and test each week until they are successful. If it fails, you can try again in 6 months.

It’s not cheap to make recruits the norm. The Army will spend around $120 million this year and around $99 million in 2026, making this effort to fill this range.

“Quality” is also important when recruiting the Army

Not all recruitment is equal, and the “quality” of recruits, or how high they score on the Army aptitude test, can affect the level of military preparation, according to Beth Asch, a military recruitment and personnel expert. Trainees who need academic help make up about 70% of future soldier preparation courses.

Academic Track trainees take part in high school-like classes in mathematics and vocabulary comprehension daily from 9am to 4:30pm. During the August session, teachers neatly wrote down the equations in complex fractions on the whiteboard, with trainees rhythmically and aloud the steps of the process.

The Pentagon policy refers to a quality “benchmark” where at least 90% of recruits need to have a high school diploma. Recruiters with the lowest score on the Army Aptitude Test are assigned to what is called Category 4. Recruiters with a test score of 61% in the middle are categorized into categories 2 and 3, while the top 6% are categorized into category 1. According to the Army, each person must attend a prep course, with about 90% of them becoming soldiers.

The Army has violated Category 4 restrictions since the recruitment crisis began.

Data show that the percentage of Category 4 recruits jumped from 2% in 2020 to 3.7% in 2021, peaking at 3.9% in 2022, when the future soldier pilot program debuted. In 2023, the figure was 3.56%. In 2024, it fell to 3.46%. And by July 2025, the percentage reached 3.72%.

Soldiers with a high aptitude score “have better performance on practical military missions” and “have fewer behavior and disciplinary issues,” Ash said.

However, the data shows that graduates of the course are equally or equally superior to those who have participated in the service through the traditional route, according to Lt. Gen. Brian Eifler, the top officer on staff. He attributed the difference to the fact that prep course soldiers get a head start with what constitutes “basic training.”

According to the Army, the rate of submission of preparatory course candidates is similar to the rate of fellow peers joining the Army through traditional routes. Over 90% of people signing up for the course end up in the Army. Soldiers on academic improvement trucks perform slightly better than soldiers on body fat reduction trucks.

“The way they hold themselves in comparison to other trainees… you can fully convey the differences between them,” Sgt. Drill said. Before his work on the course at Fort Jackson, Jennet Pashke had previously worked with soldiers at the beginning of military training. “They were struggling more… but they were still trying to get better.”

“They have grit and I think that’s what the Army needs.”

Graduates struggle and succeed

Eifler said the course offers “nudges” to young people who want to serve.

“If I don’t have the opportunity, I don’t know where I am now,” said Curry Wainwright, a 23-year-old expert stationed in Fort Hood, who joined the Army through the program.

Growing up on a small family farm in New York, Wainwright was used to physical work and lifting heavy weights, but her endurance is “poor.” She lost a small amount of body fat over the course of intensive training for a week before testing to begin basic training.

Nathaneal Aubin, 26, said after falling from 265 to 240 pounds. Aubin, a private first class currently stationed at Camp Belling in Kuwait, remains in the Army body fat requirements and suffers from weight.

Orbin entered the 101st Airborne division as a helicopter maintainer with the dream of becoming a pilot less than two years ago. As his contract approaches, Orbin, a rural Connecticut native, said he is pondering whether he will still remain in the Army or pursue his goals outside of it as an aviator.

“I’ve lost my way a little,” he said.

Wainwright said there are still some social stigmas among the army ranks that accompany the Army course.

“It’s a bit humiliating,” she said.

A few months ago, the Army was forced to respond to reports from an internal but independent watchdog, an inspector at the Department of Defense. It was found that the watchdog body authorized trainees with a body fat percentage that is 19% higher than the requirements for starting basic Army training, and far exceeding the specified limit. The data showed that 14% of trainees above the weight threshold accounted for the program’s “limited health resources” and remained in increased health risks, including the risk of death, according to the report.

The program’s academic components slide down the listed criteria, and Watchdog discovered that a “slight” of Fort Jackson trainees “had been “difficult to speak or understand English.”

According to course commander Captain Matthew Lgowski, it is not a “significant” part of the academic trainee. Some of the courses still couldn’t speak English “lick,” he said.

The Army has largely challenged these criticisms, saying there is already a rigorous process in place to eliminate trainees who have not met the requirements.

“Why the wall”

One wall is covered in scrawled sticky notebooks as trainees tense through a sweaty workout in a Fort Jackson room next to a paved outdoor area. Its official name – why the wall.

Trainees’ messages about these notes include “free college,” “pushing me and my kids out of bad situations,” “I’m proud of my family,” and “I needed money and couldn’t find a job.”

“I’m not a failure,” another note read.

For many Fort Jackson hopefuls, “why” is rooted in the struggles they left behind in their homes, poverty, homelessness, sexual assault and the loss of their loved ones.

“My mother did three jobs and I still send back money to pay the bill,” said 18-year-old Diego Gutierrez Serrano, who grew up in a small town outside Worcester, Massachusetts. He saw the program as a way to avoid going from poverty and becoming “another statistic like all other children.”

Lea Creech, 22, of Milford, Ohio, said she was the victim of sexual assault. “I wanted to get my body, not just to get my history back,” she said.

“Make sure I’m proud of myself every day,” she said. “That’s why I’m here.”

GM pauses Cadillac lyriq and vistiq output as plant shifts stop

  • Spring Hill will create a Cadillac Lyriq SUV and a Vistiq, but Fairfax is currently closed as it is currently preparing to produce a Chevrolet Volt EV. Cami produces Brightdrop Electric Delivery Van.
  • The production changes come shortly after the partial closure of zero electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Detroit Hamtramuk.

The Spring Hill Assembly plant in Tennessee is planning weeks of downtime in the coming months, according to a memo obtained by the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA Today network.

Additionally, the Detroit automaker told the Free Press on September 4 that it was coordinating future production plans at its Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City, Kansas and the Cammy Assembly plant line in Ontario, Canada.

Spring Hill will create a Cadillac Lyriq SUV and a Vistiq, but Fairfax is currently closed as it is currently preparing to produce a Chevrolet Volt EV. Cami produces Brightdrop Electric Delivery Van.

“By leveraging flexible ice and EV manufacturing footprint, General Motors is strategically adjusting the expected integrity of the expected EV industry growth and customer demand,” GM spokesman Kevin Kelly said in a statement. GM’s US manufacturing footprint remains our strength, investing nearly $5 billion over the next two years to further increase domestic vehicle production, allowing us to assemble more than 2 million vehicles per year in the US. ”

Spring Hill will close the week of October 6th and Thanksgiving, as well as the month of December. According to a note sent to employees, the changes will affect the teams assemble the vehicle assembly and battery packs for the EV battery. Ultium Cell employees are not affected.

Separately, the Fairfax Assembly, which ended production earlier this year for the Cadillac XT4 and Chevrolet Malibu, is no longer planning to add a second shift as construction increases with bolts. GM said it plans to begin assembly of Fairfax’s gas-powered Chevrolet equinox by mid-2027 this summer.

The company’s website said it plans to start with one shift in November, but GM said it will wait for market conditions before making a decision to expand to the second shift.

Meanwhile, the suspension of production at CAMI will be extended until November 17th. The CAMI assembly performed two shifts during production of its Chevrolet Brightdrop vehicle, but GM said the plant would begin a temporary layoff in April. Unifor said those layoffs will continue until October. During this downtime, GM says it will complete retouring operations to prepare the facility for production of its 2026 model commercial electric vehicle.

Once production resumes, the factory will operate in one shift in the near future. This is a decline expected to affect 450 workers.

Factory Zero will also change plans

The production changes come shortly after the partial closure of zero electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Detroit Hamtramuk.

Last week, GM told employees that the factory would partially close production for the first and second shifts, starting on Labor Day, and when it resumed on October 6, the temporary layoffs for the second shift production announced by GM on April 6 affected production of GMC Hummer EV and Cadillacalade IQ, resulting in around 360 employees.

Strategic adjustments at Spring Hill also include temporary reductions in staffing levels, the memo said.

GM confirmed that around 700 employees will be fired in Spring Hill.

Battery operations on the Spring Hill Vehicle Assembly and site will only be performed on the first shift from January to May 2026, as per the notes. Affected employees may be placed in layoff status and may be eligible for sub-pays and benefits pursuant to national UAW/GM agreements.

“We understand that this is difficult news, and at the same time, it’s important to remember that Spring Hill has a bright future,” the memo said. “We have won multiple product allocations, including the next generation Cadillac XT5 and the gas-powered Chevrolet Blazer.

EV sales are strong, but uncertain

Electric vehicle sales spiked in July and August as buyers tried to make use of up to $7,500 in federal tax credits before the September 30 deadline.

According to Sam Abuelsamid, Telemetry’s vice president of market research, the automakers preparing to slow down are now beginning to announce production.

“Given the situation where tax credits are no longer available at the end of the month, the cars that were purchased in the fourth quarter are currently being purchased,” he said. “Automobile manufacturers plan to adjust production according to what they are selling.”

On September 2, GM said that sales of more than 21,000 EVs from Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC set the highest ever record for the automaker.

Still, the company supports its decline in sales of EVs, and Duncan Aldred, GM Senior Vice President and North American president, said in a statement that the company will be mindful of its EV production plans.

“We expect strong demand again in September. The problem is, of course, this is what we’re talking about. There’s no doubt that sales will drop in the next quarter after the tax credit ends on September 30th. It may take several months for the market to normalize,” says Aldred. “We almost certainly see a smaller EV market for a while, but we don’t over-produce. ”

On September 3, Ford Motor reported profits from US retail sales in August. This is driven largely by EV sales. EV sales are rare as they were muted. The demand for them was not as strong as the industry had predicted a few years ago. The charging infrastructure and high price tag that lags on EVS were hampering sales just 12 months ago.

According to the Kelley Blue Book, the average trading price for new EVs across all brands in July was $55,689. In comparison, the average trading price for new cars in July was $48,841.

Still, Ford reported a 19% spike in retail EV sales, totaling 10,671 sales in August. However, for the first eight months of the year, Ford EV sales fell 5.7% to 57,888 compared to the same period last year.

Analysts said that sales profits for EVs are not sustainable this year. Therefore, GM is currently adjusting production.

Karl Brauer, executive analyst at ISEeCars.com, told Free Press that EV sales spikes will continue until the end of September on all EV models, and that “whip saw” in the opposite direction as EV sales evaporates in the fourth quarter.

“This is a predictable pattern, and we see it every time a large purchase incentive is removed from the market,” Brower said.

President Trump signs orders to bring back the Department of War

0

play

WASHINGTON – On September 5, President Donald Trump ordered the administration to change the name of the Department of Defense’s “warfare department,” reclaiming the cabinet name that was abandoned in 1947, matching it with what White House officials call the new “warrior spirit” that is permeating the military.

Trump has signed an executive order that will become the new “secondary name” of the Department of Defense.

The move will allow Defense Secretary Pete Hegses to use titles such as “The Ministry of War,” “The Secretary of War,” and “Deputy Secretary of War” in official government communications and communications without formalizing the name of departments that require action from Congress.

“We won World War I. We won World War II. We won it before and in the meantime,” Trump said before signing the order in an oval office. “And we decided to wake up and changed our name to the Department of Defense. So we’re going to the War Bureau.”

Ironically, Trump’s return to the War Bureau occurs when he tried to cast himself as a peace manager in several international conflicts, but tried to flex the strength of the US military.

“I think it’s a much more appropriate name, especially considering where the world is now. We have the most powerful military in the world,” Trump said. “I think we’ve gained peace because of the fact that we’re strong.”

Shortly after Trump signed the order, the official Pentagon website redirected the visitors to war.gov. Hegseth updated his profile with X to reflect the change. The secretary then posted a video in which the “Secretary of Defense” placard was defeated on the door of his office and replaced by the “Chief of War.”

Under the order, all enforcement departments and agencies must recognize and respond to changes to the “war department” of internal and external communications. The order further directs Hegseth to encourage legislative and enforcement measures to permanently rename the US Department of Defense to the US War Bureau.

“It’s not just about changing the name, it’s about recovering,” Hegses said. “The words are important. Just as you have led to the President, it restores the spirit of the warrior, restores victory and clarity as the final state, and restores the intention of using force.”

Hegseth added:

The Trump administration has not provided a cost estimate for changing the government-wide Pentagon’s reference to the War Bureau.

“We know how to rebrand without getting mad,” Trump said. The change will be “not the most expensive method.”

The Ministry of War was established in 1789 as the original Cabinet Office overseeing the US Army. Another division of the Navy was created in the same year.

The War Department was dissolved after World War II under the National Security Act of 1947, consolidating the Army and Navy divisions and creating a new air force, jointly known as the National Military Facilities (NME) between President Harry Truman.

The NME was renamed the Department of Defense in 1949. Historians say that in the reason for the name was chosen, it was to show that the United States prioritized preventing war in the post-World War II nuclear age.

Hegus agreed with Trump that since abandoning the war sector in 1947, “we have not won a massive war,” adding that he “is not to disgrace the fighters” in the Korean war and Vietnam war and conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“We’re going to raise warriors,” Hegses said, “Not only about defenders, but also about the name change.

Smokey bones close more restaurants, some convert to twin peaks

0

play

Corrections and Description: This story has been updated to clarify which companies own Smokey Bone.

Restaurant and bar Smokey Bones welcomes new leadership due to poor performance, closing more stores, bringing the company’s total number of recent closures to 15.

The FAT brand, which has subsidiaries such as Fatburger, Johnny Rockets, Great American Cookies, Fazoli and Twin Peaks, purchased Smoky Bone in 2023.

Twin Peaks announced changes to its press release on Tuesday, September 2nd. Known for its barbecues, cocktails and other specialty drinks, Smokey Bones has already closed 10 locations. The remaining five closures will occur by the end of the third quarter at the end of the year, the company said.

Twin Hospitality was previously announced in March, according to a report by the Springfield State Journal-Register, part of the USA Today Network.

USA Today contacted Twin Hospitality to find out which Smokey Bones locations have been closed recently and which five have not yet closed their doors forever.

The new leader previously worked at California Pizza Kitchen, Texas Road House and more.

The Smokey Bones once had more than 100 locations nationwide, the Springfield State Journal Register reported. Once the upcoming closures come into effect, just 26 Smokey Bones locations will remain standing, Twin Hospitality said. According to a press release, these remaining restaurants are on track to bring about “positive cash flow” for twin hospitality.

Smokey Bones’ new leader, Kane Brende Mir, will soon be working, Twin Hospitality said in a press release.

He has over 25 years of restaurant leadership experience and most recently served as Chief Operating Officer of Alamo Drafthouse, a cinema chain with locations in Texas, Massachusetts, Chicago and Virginia. He also works at Velvet Tacos at California Pizza Kitchen at Texas Roadhouse and works at the border, the company said.

Kim Bolema, CEO of Twin Hospitality, said in a press release that the restaurant closure and new leadership are part of the company’s plan to “eliminate inefficiency.” The Smokey Bones location, which brings less money, will be converted to other brands owned by the company, such as Twin Peaks Lodge and a sports bar, Boerema said.

“Ken will bring his deep operational expertise and proven track record to guide the Smokey Bones to the next chapter,” Boerema said in the release.

Two Smokey Bones locations have already undergone conversion to Twin Peaks Lodge

According to Twin Hospitality, the company has identified 19 restaurants and converted them into “better performance Twin Peaks Lodges.” The sports bar serves beer, burgers, hot chicken, fried pickles and has a wall-to-wall television.

Mexico has states such as Florida, Oklahoma and Ohio, according to the Twin Peaks website.

Some have seen Twin Peaks Sports Bar as an alternative to the Hooters, which has been reported by the Springfield State Journal-Register, which has resulted in a recent string of closures, including at least 12 state locations.

Regarding the conversion from Smokey Bones to Twin Peaks, Twin Hospitality said two conversions had already been made, one of which took place in Lakeland, Florida in late 2024, according to National Restaurant News. Twin Hospitality said the third conversion should be made later in 2025.

According to the company, the data shows that if it was operated as a smoky bone, the converted location generated $7.8 million per location.

Smokey Bones’ new president, Brendemihl, said in a press release that the chain is undergoing a transitional phase. This period “sets the basis for the long-term success of the Smokey Bones,” he said.

The board will bet big on AI and Robotaxis

0

play

Tesla’s TSLA.O board proposed a $1 trillion compensation plan to CEO Elon Musk. This will be the biggest corporate pay package in history, highlighting automakers looking to transform into AI and Robotics Powers.

The world’s wealthiest people have consistently sought a greater company’s interest in order to gain more control, even in the legal battle over the 2018 pay package (which was then valued at $56 billion). The newly proposed award is roughly 18 times larger than the contested plan, and is close to current market ratings.

The proposal underscores the board’s trust in Mask’s ability to guide the company in new directions while rekinking growth, despite its roots in Chinese rivals in key markets.

“The bold compensation tied to performance is not new, but the pure scale here sets up a new bar for CEO incentives and controls room discussions everywhere,” says Adam Sarhan, CEO of 50 Park Investments in New York.

Due to regulatory submissions, Musk is on a different plane than other technical executives.

Musk has transformed Tesla from a niche EV startup to the world’s most valuable automaker, expanding production, expanding globally, and pushing the industry into electric mobility while operating several other companies, including SpaceX and Xai.

Tesla’s board says a record-off is needed to concentrate and incentivize masks, but critics argue that as the company’s biggest shareholder, he is already well motivated and that the plan could exacerbate dilution and pose a risk of governance.

The board also said that if all targets are met, the new award could significantly raise his shares and would give him even greater control as Tesla attempts to become the most valuable company in the world.

The compensation plan does not impose any conditions on how much time you have to spend on Tesla.

“This is an incredibly big pay package. I’ll raise a lot of questions, but last year Musk moved Tesla from Delaware to Texas to avoid all of these questions.”

“I think they’ll approve this package given that Tesla stock is basically all vibes and that it seems to have little to do with the actual performance of the automaker.”

Reward details

The proposed plan grants Musk up to 12% of Tesla’s shares. This is worth around $1.03 trillion if the company’s target market value reaches $8.6 trillion. The plan would require Tesla to increase its valuation to almost eight times, or about $7.5 trillion over the next decade.

Musk said the Optimus Humanoid Robot could ultimately account for around 80% of Tesla’s value, predicting that it could support a company worth $25 trillion.

If earned in full, the award will effectively increase Musk’s voting power from his roughly 13% stake, strengthening discussions about governance and succession.

The board said the award would come with tranches related to both market capitalization mass production and operational milestones such as humanoid robots.

Tesla emphasized that Musk will receive all performance-related compensation and will not receive any salary or cash bonuses, reflecting the structure of the 2018 plan.

The company’s shares rose by about 3%.

Earlier this year, Tesla’s board approved a temporary remuneration package for musk, worth around $29 billion in limited stock.

Tesla has since been re-integrated into Texas and is suing Delaware’s ruling, but the company said the new plan reflects shareholder feedback and a stronger governance safeguard.

The submission also revealed that a special committee of independent directors will review the proposal and will be sent to a shareholder vote in November.

Political Crowd Focus

Musk’s advance into party politics and his willingness to challenge President Donald Trump has raised concerns among Tesla investors and analysts about potential distractions, and previously encouraged talks about finding a new chief.

In July, Musk announced plans to launch a third party, the American Party, following public clashes with Trump over tax cuts and government spending bills.

Tesla’s board urged shareholders to vote against a proposal calling for a political neutrality policy that would expand the board’s oversight of Musk’s political activities.

“We’re looking forward to seeing you in the future,” said Douglassia, president of Soundboard Governance, an independent corporate governance consulting company. “It’s ridiculous, so they’ll pass it on, I have no doubt.”

Trump says Americans should take the “controversial” vaccine

0

“I think we have to be very careful,” Trump said when asked about plans to phase out Florida’s vaccine mandate. “Look, you have a really great vaccine.”

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump said Americans should take a “controversial” vaccine as they distanced themselves from Florida’s plans to finish all vaccine missions, including school children.

On September 5, Trump gave him one of his clearest defenses on September 5, in response to questions from reporters who called for his position on new, controversial policies in Florida, driven by Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration. The president’s remarks came as his own health and welfare secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is under the fire amidst the CDC’s chaos sparked by Kennedy’s vaccine skepticism.

“I think we have to be very careful,” Trump said when asked about plans to phase out Florida’s vaccine mandate. “Look, you have a really great vaccine.”

Trump promoted the polio vaccine, calling it “surprising” and added, “COVID (vaccine) is amazing.”

“I think you have to be very careful when some people say they don’t need to get vaccinated, and that’s a very tough position,” Trump said.

He added: “You have vaccines. They’re pure and simple jobs. They’re totally controversial. And I think you should use those vaccines. Otherwise some people will catch it and put others at risk.

While Trump’s criticism of his leader was mounted, Kennedy, who rose to face grills from the senators during a September 4 hearing over his actions as the nation’s finest health authorities, reflecting his long-standing skepticism about vaccines.

In June, Kennedy fired all 17 members of the committee that advises the federal government on vaccine safety, replacing them with handpicked choices. In August, the Food and Drug Administration set stricter guidelines on who can receive the latest Covid-19 vaccine, recommending shots only for people over the age of 65 or with existing health issues. Trump fired CDC director Susan Monares on August 27th after disagreement with Kennedy over vaccine policy.

During an explosive hearing before the Senate Treasury Committee, Kennedy refused to acknowledge the more than 1 million Americans who died from the coronavirus, as widely accepted in the public health community, and was reluctant to give credit to the Covid-19 vaccine in saving lives.

“I don’t know how many people died,” Kennedy said. “There’s a lot of data chaos coming out of the CDC, so I don’t think anyone knows it.”

Where will the Powerball winner remain anonymous? See the list of states

Anonymous could prove to be a bounty of salvation, especially with the billion-dollar Powerball Jackpot on the ground.

With the prize money remaining engraved in front of Saturday’s painting, lottery players, whether they’re lottery players or beginners, may wonder if they can keep up with the news of potential victory in the DL.

For at least some states, it’s about allowing winners to request the award anonymously, allowing individuals to maintain similarities in privacy while understanding what an individual is trying to do, who is trying to communicate, or not.

And the bad news…for everyone else, if money is being charged in any of the 18 states where the winner can choose to be anonymous, you may not know who won the jackpot or where it came from.

This is 18 states where the winner remains anonymous after a big victory, including the terms and conditions of each state.

How to play Powerball

First off: To play Powerball you will need to buy a $2 ticket.

This can be done in a variety of places, including local convenience stores, gas stations, and grocery stores. In some states, Powerball tickets can be purchased online.

After that, it’s up to you to choose a total of six numbers. 5 numbers from a set of 1-69 and 1 Powerball number from a set of 1-26.

You also have the option to choose “Power Play” for $1. This increases your wins for all non-jackpot awards. The “Power Play” multiplier can be multiplied by 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 10x on the prize.

If you feel unlucky or want your computer to do your job, the “quick pick” option is available. Here, the computer-generated numbers are printed on the Powerball ticket. To win a jackpot, players must match all five white balls with any order and Red Powerball.

The Powerball painting takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturday nights. If no one can beat the jackpot, the prize money will continue to increase.

2026 W-2, W-4 Forms Changed to Explain Trump Tax Law

0

play

Are you wondering how the new mega-tax laws will affect your salary and taxes? Some of the answers lie in employees of the new W-2 form.

The IRS recently released a draft of a new W-2 form worker and receives a W-4 form that is used to calculate tax withholding for each pay period. The draft form will not apply in 2025, but tips and overtime pay regulations apply. The IRS said it would provide transition relief for the 2025 tax year to taxpayers claiming deductions and employers and payers eligible for the new reporting requirements.

The new form shows how new laws such as taxes and overtime on tips can be explained. So, what can Americans expect when they start submitting to these new forms?

“We are committed to providing support for our clients with the goal of providing support for our clients,” said Rob Burnette, Outlook Financial Center investment advisor representative and professional tax returner.

What’s new in the W-2?

Those major changes are in box 14. After the tax bill, box 14 will be split into 14a and 14b.

  • Box 14A Burnette said it is likely to be used as before. Your employer is reporting here what doesn’t fit anywhere else. Examples include withholding state disability insurance tax, union membership fees, deducted health insurance premiums, and tax-free income.
  • Box 14b It is labeled “Treasury Talent Occupation Code” to consider those eligible to not receive taxes on tips. The IRS will provide a list in October for the profession “Conventionally and Regularly (Received) Tips before December 31, 2024.” If you are qualified, the occupation code will go here.

Box 12 has not been changed, but one big beautiful bill law allows three new codes to be used in this box.

  • TA – Employer contributions to the Trump account. You can donate up to $5,000 a year to an account that adjusts inflation for children. Employers can donate up to $2,500, but this is not taxable.
  • TP – The total amount of tips eligible for tax deductions is eligible for the maximum annual deduction deduction for 2025-2028 to 2028. It is $25,000 per person, and the self-employed taxpayer deduction cannot exceed the net profit before deduction from work where the hint was acquired. The deduction is incrementally incrementally, with adjusted gross income changes of over $150,000 ($300,000 for joint filers).
  • TT – Overtime salaries eligible for NO tax deduction for overtime clauses through 2028 are deducted without tax for the period until 2028. The maximum annual deduction is $12,500 ($25,000 for joint filers) and is a taxpayer stage with adjusted gross income of $150,000 ($300,000 for joint filers).

Are there any changes to other forms to be aware of?

W-4 Form employees also seemed a little different to using to calculate withholding, with new deductions listed on the worksheet, moving from 3 to 4 pages.

Step 4 (b) of the deduction worksheet includes:

  • Qualified tip income (up to $25,000)
  • Overtime compensation (up to $12,500, or $25,000 if married)
  • New car loan interest (up to $10,000)
  • Additional amount for seniors (65+) ($6,000 each, $65,000 if your spouse is over 65 with a valid Social Security number)
  • Cash gifts for charities. If you have received the standard deduction, enter your cash contribution (up to $1,000, $2,000 if you are married)

Instead of asking for itemized deductions, the form has another line:

  • San Francisco Certified Public Accountant Richard Pont said that medical/dental expenses exceeding 7.5% of adjusted gross income are used by the term “income” but based on AGI).
  • State and local taxes up to $40,400 (2026 amount indexed for inflation),
  • Mortgage interest,
  • Charity gifts exceeding 0.5% for AGI (forms use the term “income” but are based on adjusted gross income, Pong said.
  • Standard discard/limited mathematics at the end of the worksheet. Some tax laws include restrictions that may affect the number you use in your worksheet.

Are there any new forms to look for?

New Schedule 1-A, which has not yet been released but attached to Form 1040, debuts for employees to request deductions related to the three new W-2 codes and W-4 deductions in Box 12.

What does this mean for taxpayers?

“If you’re doing your own tax returns, be patient with the new rules and make sure you follow the written rules,” Burnett said. “If you don’t know, reach out to a professional tax preparer, if the return is not complicated, you can use a DIY software package or get a chance to submit a paper return,” the recommendation is not recommended.

Kansas City chiefs set out on a quest to revenge their Super Bowl 59 defeat against the Los Angeles Chargers

With its final official appearance at the Kansas City soccer field, it was dragged into the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles in February. With an offensive offensive line of attack and (almost) complete complement to skill position players, the partnership between Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid looks just as dynamic as ever when it launches the 2025 Slate.

But they will face tough jobs with Jim Harbaugh’s chargers. The tough-nosed smashmas team achieved significant improvements in their first year under Harbaugh, with the team finishing 11-6 and finishing second in AFC West.

Boasting one of the league’s better defensive units last season, Harbaud is trying to continue tilting the division’s power dynamics towards Bolt, starting on international territory in Brazil on Friday night.

Even if Mekhi Becton is playing, the charger is in trouble when the attack line depth is tested. Justin Herbert’s feet aren’t enough to win in Brazil, and the Chief reminds them that they are still kings of the AFC until it proves not. – Nick Blinkerhoff

prediction: Chief 23, Chargers 16

Is Taylor Swift appearing in tonight’s Chiefs Game?

Swift’s attendance at the Chiefs game against the charger was not confirmed Friday night.

While it may not seem like a big deal, the attendees of Kelse’s fiance seem to show the trends in his performance over the past two seasons. Star Tight End appears to be boosted by the existence of Swift, especially in 2024 that she missed both games with the Rival Chargers.

Many of the Chargers’ rookie classes are inactive for tonight’s season opening game in Kansas City. Rookie tight ends Olonde Gadsden and Tucker Fisk are not one of seven players tonight. This means that the charger is only two players against the Chiefs.

There’s no real surprise at the Chiefs’ inactive list on Friday night. The rookie wideout Jalen Royals will have to make their debut later as they continue to recover from a knee injury.

How do you buy a Powerball ticket? Step-by-step guide

The $1.8 billion jackpot in the lottery has attracted a lot of attention from lottery players both new and old. Here’s a guide on how to buy a lottery ticket for first-time players.

play

The Powerball Jackpot is estimated at $1.8 billion! Here’s how you can try to win the second-highest jackpot in Powerball history:

When jackpots get historically high, it’s no wonder that everyone wants to get a winning ticket, but to do so, they first have to find a way to play the lottery. Luckily, Powerball is available in most states at grocery stores, gas stations and even online.

If you want to play, there is one in every 292.2 million people who will win a jackpot.

Here’s what you need to know about where and how you can buy a Powerball ticket:

Are you the right age?

Everyone wants to be a billionaire, but you must be old enough to legally gamble in your state.

In most states, you must be over 18 to purchase a lottery ticket. However, in the following states, you must be a little older to buy or redeem the lottery.

  • Arizona: According to the Arizona lottery, 21 years old
  • Louisiana: According to the Louisiana Lottery, 21 years old

How do you ask the cashier for a Powerball ticket?

If you purchase tickets directly, you can ask for a “quick pick” where your computer generates numbers for you. If you feel very fortunate, you can choose the numbers yourself.

The cashier asks if he is interested in “power play.” This option adds an additional fee, but multiplies the non-jackpot prize by a factor of 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10.

If you have your own numbers selected, select five numbers between 1 and 69 on the white ball and one number between 1 and 26 in Red Powerball.

When you purchase a Powerball ticket, the cashier will give you a slip of paper containing the numbers you have selected or computer generated and printed.

How much is the Powerball ticket?

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play, and an additional $1 if you choose to bundle with Power Play for a total of $3.

You can also purchase multiple plays and tickets at once.

What do I do after I buy a Powerball ticket?

Trump hosts the 2026 G-20 Summit at Doral Resort in Miami

Trump has pushed back the proposal that he could personally benefit from next year’s G-20. The G-20 will be hosted at Doral Golf Resort near Miami.

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump has announced that he will hold next year’s G-20 Summit at a golf resort in Doral, Florida. He attempted to convene world leaders during his first term at the same facility near Miami.

After discussing the summit in his September 5th statement in the Oval Office, Trump pushed back a proposal that could personally benefit from the event. “Everyone wants that,” he said.

“The place is the best and we don’t make any money on it,” Trump said. “We’re doing a deal that doesn’t make money. There’s no money. I just want to do it well. Each country has its own buildings. I think it’s going to be really beautiful.”

The president was joined by Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and two top economic staff, heading G-20 preparation and programming, director of the National Economic Council, Kevin Hassett and Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent.

“President Trump’s “America’s first” initiative doesn’t mean America alone. That means America is taking the lead,” Bescent said. “The United States is returning to the international stage as a leader.”

In 2019, during his first term, Trump announced plans to hold the 2020 G-7 Summit at Doral Resort, but later repealed the proposal amid ethical concerns from both Democrats and Republican lawmakers.

The G-20 consists of 19 countries and two regions of two countries: the European Union and the African Union. This accounts for 85% of the world’s gross domestic product and 75% of international trade.

Trump told reporters that he would skip this year’s G-20 summit in South Africa, set it in November and send Vice President JD Vance instead. “I’m not going. JD will be going,” Trump said. “He looks forward to it.

Suarez touted the economic impact of the summit and thanked Trump “believe in Miami.”

“This decision is not only important in general to cities, but it also maps them as one of the truly great global cities,” Suarez said.

Bruce Willis’ wife, family, Demi Moore can be seen in a rare new photo

Bruce Willis is posing with his family in a rare new photo in his battle with dementia.

The legendary 70-year-old “Die Hard” actor will be posing with his 47-year-old wife Emma Heming Willis, ex-wife and Oscar nominee Demi Moore, as well as his daughters from the exclusive Vanity Fair Photos, which was released on September 5th.

In a sweet snap, Heming Willis and Moore, 62, are posing next to Willis’ youngest daughters, Mabel, 11 and 13. Moore is also a photo of her eldest daughter’s first child, Luetta Thomas Willis, hugging her family photo.

Heming Willis wrote his memoir, “Unexpected Journey: Finding Your Caregiving Paths and Finding Yourself,” scheduled to be released on Tuesday, September 9th. The family announced Willis’s dementia diagnosis in 2023.

The photo was last week when Heming Willis denounced critics for choosing to live separately from her husband, allowing Willis to be helped by professional caregivers in a different and ultimately calm environment.

On Tuesday, August 26th, in a special about ABC’s family journey, Heming Willis revealed that the “Die Hard” star lives in another home after his battle with frontotemporal dementia. After the interview sparked backlash, Heming Willis responded on Instagram in an August 29 video.

“What I knew is to see these two camps by sharing some of our intimate information,” Heming Willis said in the video. “It’s probably people who have more opinions than people who have real experience.”

The actress and caregiver advocates said that those with opinions will “quickly judge caregivers” and that fans will tell them “that caregivers are opposed, and that they will judge others.”

Appearing on the September 2nd “Oplar Podcast,” Moore praised the way Bruce Willis’ wife has cared for him in her battle with frontotemporal dementia. Willis and Moore remained friends for several years after splitting over 20 years ago, and the A-list exe has long been a model of positive cooperation despite their divorce in 2000 after tying the knot in 1987.

“I am a very caring and young woman with this,” Moore said. “There’s no way for anyone to predict where this will go, and I think she did a fantastic job. She’s very dedicated to building the right path.

BMW introduces new Class IX3 SUVs to enhance the global EV presence

BMW BMWG.DE removed the Neue Klasse IX3 Electric Sport Utility Vehicle on Friday.

The model will begin production at the end of the year and will be sold in Europe at a price of 68,900 euros ($80,700) in March 2026, but it is one of BMW’s great hopes in the global market for premium electric vehicles.

This is the first in a sequence of next-generation EV launches under the branding umbrella Neue Klasse, the car manufacturer, a new class of German.

By forming that push backbone, the IX3 ranges over 800km and can charge over 370km of power within 10 minutes.

“This represents an entirely new generation of models. It’s a massive leap that will shape the whole brand for years to come,” BMW CEO Oliver Gyps said at a showcase in Munich ahead of the official opening of the IAA Mobility Car Show.

Analysts at Deutsche Bank said BMW is targeting a recovery in market share with the launch of Neue Klasse in China.

“So Neue Klasse’s success in China requires careful balance laws. It requires adapting to the demands of local markets and implementing a pricing strategy that resonates with Chinese consumers,” they said in a recent memo.

Is it legal for Trump to change the name of the war division of DOD?

0

play

The 47th US president was scheduled to sign an executive order on Friday, September 5th, to change the name of the US Department of Defense’s “War Bureau.”

The move, confirmed by the White House after Donald Trump proposed changing his name to reporters last week, will bring back names that were abandoned during the 1947 cabinet reorganization. The intent is to reflect what Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses called the Trump administration’s “effort to instill a warrior spirit within the entire nation’s military.”

“It used to be called the Department of War, but it had a stronger sound,” Trump said.

A White House summary of the order obtained by USA Today said the move would restore the “war division” as the secondary name of the division. The order, according to the White House, allows secondary titles such as “war chief,” “war bureau,” and “war bureau chief,” such as official communications, public communications, and ritual contexts.

If approved, the White House reported that the executive department and agency must recognize and change the DOD name as the “war division” of internal and external communications.

But is it legal for Trump to rename a long-standing institution created to protect and protect Americans?

Here’s what you need to know about Trump’s plans and when and when it can be implemented:

Is it legal for Trump to change the Pentagon’s name?

Yes, but caution is required.

Under federal law, Trump cannot unilaterally change his name through executive orders. The president must be approved by Congress.

What year was the dog previously known as the “Ministry of War”?

For more than 150 years, the Department of Defense was called the “War Bureau,” but was renamed in the late 1940s following World War II and the integration of the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force into a single agency.

Lawmakers officially rebranded the agency as the Department of Defense in 1949.

According to previous USA Today, another act of Congress is required to return the name to the Department of War.

Before Trump’s announcement, Jamal Green, a professor at Columbia Law School, told the New York Times it was unclear whether the name change would take effect anytime soon.

“The president has a clearer power to order geographical name changes because it is used in the United States,” the outlet reported.

It’s not the first time Trump has signed an executive order directing the federal government to change the name of something. In January he historically renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America because he said it had a “beautiful ring” in his name.

The roof has a “double bubble” profile and a first-back rear window. The long hood and short rear deck are reminiscent of early preludes. On the back there is a wide range of stances for cargo access, flare fenders and hatches. The front Brembo brake calipers are called Deep Blue, while Shade Honda calls them “Prelude Blue.”

The Prelude comes in five colors:

  • Blue Blue Pearl
  • Winter frost pearls
  • metlimegray metallic
  • Crystal Black Pearl
  • Rally Red

Accessories include black emblems, mirror covers, front underbody spoilers and deck lid spoilers.

Interior comfort and style

The interior features 2+2 seats, a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.

Honda promises narrow A-pillars and low cowls for positive visibility.

Risky touch includes a flat-bottom steering wheel with alloy “shift paddles” and sports pedals.

The heated front seats feature leather trim, perforated houndtooth upholstery, blue contrast stitching and an embossed prelude logo on the headrest. They have asymmetrical reinforcements for the driver and passenger seat.

New “shift” and handling assist features

Prelude introduces new systems that mimic the feel of a manual transmission in sporty driving, such as rev matching and gear holding. Honda says the S+ Shift will be used in other hybrids.

The Prelude also introduces Honda Agile Handling Assist, which adjusts the powertrain and brakes to match the steering input.

Other important features include the Civic-type R-chassis system adapted to the size, weight and character of the Prelude.

  • Adaptive damper
  • Dual shaft front suspension

Summer tires are now available.

The Prelude has four driving modes that change the suspension, steering, throttle response, engine sound, and more.

Safety features

Standard safety features include:

  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Collision Mitigation Brake
  • Pedestrian recognition
  • Lane departure warning and assist
  • Driver warning monitor
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert

Chicago braces for the possibility of national security deployment

Illinois Governor is threatening President Donald Trump. The mayor of Chicago urged the federal government to “invest without breaking in.” And organizers of the festival celebrating Mexico’s Independence Day have cancelled their event.

Chicagoans are blessed with a potential surge in federal immigration agents and National Guard troops that can be launched soon this weekend despite voice protests from state and local leaders and Chicago residents.

“There is no emergency here that guarantees military deployment,” Democratic Gov. J.B. Pretzker said in a September 4 post on social media site X.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said there is no emergency in the city and urged the Trump administration to use its resources to help the city solve other issues, such as housing affordability and homelessness.

“If you want to help the federal government invest, not invasion,” he said in X.

Meanwhile, the popular two-day El Grito Chicago Festival has been put on hold due to reports that a ramp-up of an ice attack could reach along with the National Guard deployment, where it is expected.

The organizers said in a post on the festival’s website, but “the safety of the community is at risk at this time,” the organizers said.

Trump has recently waffled about whether he will deploy his troops to Chicago. On September 2nd, he said, “We’re going.” Then before returning a statement a day later, he said he was still determined.

He suggested that Pretzker invite him to send the National Guard to Chicago, but the governor resisted the idea. “I have this incompetent governor who wants to go to Chicago and doesn’t want us,” he said.

Crime in Chicago has been on a downward trend since the early 1990s, according to a review of the Chicago Police Department’s annual crime report.

Most violent and property crimes fell in 2024, the most recent period in which annual data is available compared to the previous year. And violent crime has declined dramatically since its peak 30 years ago.

In 1992, Chicago police recorded 940 murders and more than 41,000 worsening attacks. Last year, according to the annual report, there were 580 murders and worsening attacks of less than 8,000.

“One murder is too many,” Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said in an X post.

The Chicago Police Department said it is operating under a consent ruling with the Illinois Attorney General to improve police practices to keep both community members and officers safe and restore and build community trust in the department. The agreement should focus on community policing, improving crisis interventions, and improving Force use compliance.

Trump is at his disposal the National Guard to achieve his immigration enforcement and crime-fighting plans.

He ordered the National Guard to Los Angeles earlier this year, quelling protests against immigrant raids there and deploying National Guard troops in Washington, D.C. to combat crime.

The capital’s deployment was extended until November 30th, but it is not clear whether the military will patrol the city forever. The public safety emergency that Trump declared for DC in August is expected to expire on September 10th.

The new formulation is not GFUEL’s only announcement. The brand is also working with YouTuber Pewdiepie to release new Lingonberry-flavored energy drinks and powders.
