This 1934 Mercedes replica took to fix 3 mechanics and $9k

Gene Coyle was waiting for a lifetime to buy the car of his dreams. Eye-catching classic cars will help people get off the curb.

Bloomington, Indiana found it on a replica of the 1934 Mercedes-Benz Heritage Cabriolet Roadster that does all of the above. A 17-6-inch wavy, elegant flowing line molded from fiberglass. The 285 horsepower engine of the 1971 Chevrolet Camaro is located under the extremely cool hood, extending about 9 feet from the windshield.

Turning this car towards a sharp corner is a challenge.

When Coyle began searching for cars online last year, he wasn’t sure what he wanted until he saw a replica of the Red 1934 Mercedes Roadster for sale in Vermont. Sellers wanted the mid-price price of this type of car, $34,000. He almost booked the flight and got a close-up look.

“Then I saw this in Texas,” he said. “It was $28,000 so I flew there 15 months ago to see it.”

He got in the car for a test drive. The steering was quite loose and he remembered, and there was concern that he had patched the wiring under the hood. The air conditioner didn’t work, but who needs it when you can fold the top of the canvas and enjoy the wind?

Side note: Coyle is a retired CIA agent. I think he should have asked more questions. I did some research before writing that check. However, he was overcome by the beauty of the car, and after a health struggle that challenged his life, he became happy.

The replica Mercedes was purchased and transported to Indiana. When Coyle realizes that he needs attention from a mechanic, he embarks on a journey of finding cars in three different shops around town, eventually returning to Coyle’s garage to prepare the road.

I was able to fill in the photo album with the photos I took that afternoon. There are plenty of close-ups that show unique decorations for your car. The engine expanded with taillights, chrome pinlocks on the hood, hinges on suicide doors, spokes on wheels, and in 1934, a clear silver pipe extending from the sides of the engine.

Like Coyle told me, I filled half of the reporter’s notebook writing down the car story. I’ll mention some highlights.

In 1934, Coyle said that two of the first real cars he was based on were purchased by American film stars Clark Gable and Gary Cooper. It may have boosted his interest in the replica he bought. The car cost around $10,000. They sell to millions now.

The two-seater of the coil occupy two regular sized parking spaces in Bloomington. Coyle said he violated the Parking Act when he called the city’s parking lot and asked if he could take two spaces in his car and pay for both meters. “Parking is a problem,” he said.

Coil couldn’t find a mechanic that could repair all the cars he needed. He said he has invested around $9,000 so far. His wife shook her head and said it was more than that.

Speaking of Yang Coyle, she is not a huge fan of her husband’s dream car. She drove around the neighborhood once, praying that she didn’t come across another car before returning home and that she hadn’t hit anything. “It’s so long,” she said.

My favourite stories include the police. One morning, when the car was residing in the second mechanic shop, Coil asked a Bloomington police officer if he owned a 1934 Mercedes-Benz.

That morning, residents of the house left and found the vehicle blocked in the driveway by a rare, exotic car parked behind it. The officer said people needed to leave and he was planning to get the car towed. Coyle was called AAA and the flatbed towker retrieved the car.

He called the mechanic later that day and asked how the car was going on in a driveway from a distance. “He was driving it and said the engine was dead, so he coastted in the driveway and put it there.”

Yang Koe sent flowers to the residents and apologized for the inconvenience. That’s when her husband hired a third mechanic and finally set up the car correctly.

Over a year later, Coyle said he was about what he was doing with the vehicle and might sell it in the future. I encouraged him to enter the parade. It is large enough to float on its own. And people need to see this car before it moves.

Images of enslaved man become a new flashpoint in Trump history review

0

Critics have seen Trump’s efforts to whiten up the ugly parts of American history.

play

The unforgettable picture of a former enslaved man with a back severely wounded by a whiplash is the new flashpoint for President Donald Trump’s efforts to change how history is presented in the United States.

A 1863 photograph, known as the “scourted back” image, named Peter, has long been used to show the horrifying state in which enslaved people lived. Abolitionists used Harper’s weekly photos to stir up the public’s sentiment about slavery. According to the National Portrait Gallery, Peter, whose surname is unknown, served as a sergeant in the Union Black Regiment during the Civil War.

The Washington Post reported on September 16 that the National Park Service was ordered to stop using photos on displays. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior said the NPS site was not asked to remove images, but admitted that there is an ongoing review of all interpretive displays throughout the federal government.

Trump ordered a review in April as part of his longstanding belief that American history should be taught in ways that promote patriotism as well as acknowledge historical facts. This image is still available from the National Portrait Gallery, part of the Smithsonian.

Trump has also ordered a review of the Smithsonian display, complaining that displays about enslaved Americans are too negative.

“As the President said, federal historical sites and agencies should present a history that is accurate, honest and reflects shared national values,” the Home Office said in a statement. “An interpretive material that focuses solely on challenging aspects of American history without acknowledging broader contexts or national progress may provide an incomplete understanding rather than unintentionally enriching it.”

Critics see Trump’s move as an effort to whitewash the suffering and contributions of American history, particularly indigenous people, blacks and Hispanics, into European settlers’ hands. They are also concerned that the president will not emphasize climate change.

The National Park Service has multiple sites and exhibits dedicated to slavery, colonization and climate change, so presidential critics are awaiting the results of the review with concern. In a statement, the National Park Conservation Association said it is a nonpartisan, nonprofit advocacy group, saying the potential removal of photographs like Peter’s image represents a loss in history education.

“The great nations don’t hide from their history. We learn from the past and stand up to it when necessary,” said Alan Spears, senior director of cultural resources at the NCPA. “The ‘scorted’ photos shocked the country and the world with their honest portrayal of the vicious nature of slavery. This photograph and other images and information are painstakingly chosen and contextualized to help visitors understand the role that slavery has played in our history. ”

In that statement, the Home Office said it would confirm whether someone accidentally ordered the removal of the photos or had ordered prematurely.

Last month, the White House published a list of artwork and museum exhibits that officials deemed undesirable, including exhibits by the National Museum of African American History and Culture, which criticize “white dominant culture.” That list also includes an exhibit at the American Latin National Museum, where White House officials felt they inaccurately portrayed the Texas Revolution as a defense of slavery, rather than as a war of independence from Mexico.

Israel invades Gaza as the United Nations claims genocide. See maps, videos

After a series of devastating airstrikes, Israeli forces send their ground forces to Gaza city, where thousands of Palestinians flee and escalate the region’s humanitarian crisis.

Israel has threatened ground attacks to seize what is known as Hamas’s hub within the city. Palestinians said the airstrikes were the most heavily fired artillery they faced in the two-year war, Reuters reported.

The September 16 attack followed the discovery of an independent UN Human Rights Commission that said Israel was committing genocide in Gaza in the war with Hamas. Israel rejected the report, saying Hamas had attempted genocide in Israel.

What is the level of damage to Gaza?

Since the Israeli military’s attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed, and the Israeli military has levelled almost 60% of structures, including homes, schools, mosques and other buildings, Gaza City maintains the greatest damage.

The satellite image captured on September 16th allows a large number of people and vehicles to be seen along the roads and roads of Al Rashid that lead to the escape route established by Israel.

Continuing satellite analysis by two academic researchers, which began shortly after the war began, shows how quickly and widespread building destruction is, especially in the north where more than 74% of buildings are damaged or destroyed.

The Israeli Defense Secretary said the number of soldiers will increase in the coming days as ground forces are deep in the major cities of the enclave, and Reuters said the number of soldiers will increase in the coming days as the IDF faces up to 3,000 Hamas fighters whom IDF believes are still in the city.

The first state to offer free universal child care. Who is paying for it?

0

play

New Mexico is the first state in the United States to guarantee free childcare for all parents starting November 1st.

Governor Michel Lejean Grisham made the announcement on September 8th. The state has already made free childcare available to families with incomes below 400% of federal poverty levels. However, starting in November, the program will be available to all parents, regardless of their income.

“By investing in universal child care, we are ensuring that families support the economy and ensure that all children have an opportunity to grow and thrive,” Lejean Grisham said in a news release.

Here are some things you need to know about the program and whether other states will follow suit.

How does free childcare work across the state?

Elizabeth Groginsky, Director of Early Childhood Education and Care, said that funding for the parenting support program will go directly to parents, not to parents.

Most parenting providers in New Mexico – 85% – are part of the program. Parents apply for assistance through the state, with specific care facilities in mind. The state sets prices based on the age of the child, care facilities and quality of care.

Centres that are not participating in the program are opted out and are likely to have higher tuition fees, Groginsky said.

How much can a family save with universal free childcare?

New Mexico families save an average of $12,000 a year through the program, according to a news release.

Childcare costs are more than that for some families. According to a Wallethub analysis, single parents in New Mexico can spend more than a third of their income on childcare. Married couples in New Mexico spend more than 11% of their income on childcare.

Infant care costs are the highest, and childcare costs usually decrease as children grow. The average cost of center-based infant care in the United States is $1,230 per month, or $14,760 per year, according to a review of the World Population, and the cost of raising infants or infants does not meet the federal definition of affordable prices in any state (less than 7% of annual household income). According to the Institute for Economic Policy, the average annual cost of infant care in New Mexico is $14,244. Childcare for a 4 year old costs $9,993 a year.

“Childcare is the cost of living,” said Lena Bilik, program manager at the Roosevelt Institute.

Does the state have enough childcare providers to support all New Mexico families?

New Mexico needs 5,000 early childhood experts to make the universal child care system work, state estimates.

Groginsky said the state doesn’t have these additional experts by November. She does not expect supply to surpass demand from this year. This is because many families now send their children to childcare facilities by paying from their pockets. However, the state is moving forward to recruiting more teachers as more families enroll in the program.

“With the birth rates in New Mexico, we hope that this universal childcare will tempt more people to raise their families, and people move here and support our workforce,” Groginsky said.

The state is partnering with employers and school districts, employing more licensed and registered housing providers with higher reimbursement rates “to reflect true cost of care,” according to a news release. Programs that promise to pay entry-level staff a minimum of $18 per hour and provide 10 hours of care per day five days a week will receive an incentive rate. The minimum wage in New Mexico is $12 per hour.

“The reality is that this is not currently a job to support families to become child care providers. That’s a big part of why there’s not enough childcare,” Bilik said. New Mexico is certainly moving in the right direction, she said, and other states and local governments have also made progress in adjusting childcare wages. In 2022, the District of Columbia established the Early Childhood Educator Salary Equity Fund, providing early childhood educators with up to $14,000 in supplemental annual payments.

The state is establishing a $12.7 million low interest rate loan fund to build, expand and renovate childcare facilities. The state’s 2027 budget calls for an additional $20 million.

Who pays for universal, non-cost childcare in New Mexico?

New Mexico began Universal Nou Cost childcare plans in 2019, when the state established its early childhood education and care department. In 2020, Lejean Grisham established the $320 million Early Childhood Education and Care Fund from surplus oil and gas revenues and federal mineral leases. Groginsky said he hoped that the funds would grow to $1 billion in 10 years. The fund already has nearly $10 billion.

The division receives annual interest from the fund ($500 million or 5% of the fund’s three-year average balance, whichever is greater). In 2022, New Mexicans will use a portion of the state land grant to fund early childhood education, providing $178.7 million in 2026.

Are other states considering universal childcare?

Julie Kashen, senior and director of women’s economic justice at the Century Foundation, said there is growing demand for free childcare nationwide. Parents and employers have been on the lookout for the child care crisis for years.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the federal government’s American rescue plan invested more in child care than any other era in American history. The nation has tasted something that supports parenting infrastructure during that time, Kashen said, and some states are now working on building that infrastructure.

In June, Connecticut established the Early Childhood Education Fund to create a universal kindergarten by 2032. Vermont’s 2023 law expanded childcare access by providing financial support to families and minimum wage standards for childcare workers.

In Multnomah County, Oregon, 3,800 families will have access to the Universal Kindergarten Program, funded by the county’s marginal income tax during this school year. Combined with other government programs, this means that 40% of preschool seats in the county are publicly funded, according to Ryan Yambra, the county’s communications coordinator. The county expands its program every year, and by 2030 it is on track to have a universal kindergarten for all county residents (11,000 seats), Yambra said.

Other jurisdictions are also floating parenting access programs, and childcare is the best mind for many voters. Most notably, New York City candidate Zohran Mamdani runs on a platform that includes free childcare.

Can Universal Childcare become a national program?

White House officials did not answer questions asking whether the administration plans to investigate a universal, free childcare program across the country, starting today in the United States.

Recent national childcare efforts “focus on employers’ tax cuts rather than investing in American families,” Kashen said. She believes that universal free childcare “must be a national solution” rather than spreading the state through the state.

“We can do big and difficult things when we want,” she said. “When we have a will, we find a way, and I think we can do it again.”

Within the network of “brainwashing” camps for children in Ukraine, Russia

0

play

WASHINGTON – Russia is hugging tens of thousands of children who lured Ukrainian children in a vast “potentially unprecedented” network of over 200 militarization and “brainwashing” camps, according to a September 16 report from a group of war crime investigators.

“What we’re looking at is an industrialized network of reeducation, aka, Ukrainian children being brainwashed to turn Russians and, in some cases, certain Ukrainian children into soldiers,” said Nathaniel Raymond, executive director of the Public Health Humanitarian Research Lab, behind the report.

The forced relocation and re-education of children in Ukrainian Russia, and in some cases, their militarization, occur on a much larger scale than previously known, lab investigators found. They tracked the children to summer camps, sanatoriums, military bases in Russia and 210 sites that occupied Ukrainian territory.

The youngest Ukraine children, four months old, are held at facilities with names such as the Forest Fairy Camp and the Teddy Bear Camp, taught to promote the Ukrainian War, and are forced to learn Russian folk songs and fairy tales.

Over the age of eight, they have been forced into the “Cabinet School,” starting to receive Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) type programs, and as teenagers, they have been actively involved in military and combat training.

At all ages, children are forbidden to speak Ukrainians, he said.

Russia invites Ukrainian children on a historic scale

The exact number of Ukrainian children accused of Russia since the launch of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 is unknown. The Ukrainian government estimates it has nearly 20,000 children, but past reports from Yale Lab have brought it to more than 35,000.

Raymond said that Russia’s massive operations are historically comparable only between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Stalin regime. Many Ukrainian children are detained in the same place where people from the Baltic countries were accused of during the Soviet-era “Operational Dal Waves” in 1949, and in at least one case, in the exact same facility.

Military training was observed at around 40 locations, with the programme including combat training and drone assembly.

Researchers still don’t have evidence on hand that Ukrainian children are forced to fight for Russia in the war, but Raymond said the lab made an important breakthrough in that direction when he identified a trench carved in the form of a “Z” in a militarization camp for one child. “Z-trench” is increasingly being used on both sides of the conflict to protect blasts from FPVs, or first-person view drones, Raymond said.

“Can you make sure there is an industrial-scale training pipeline to prepare for combat operations? Yes, you can,” Raymond said.

The lab discovered that half of the locations they identified were managed by the Russian government. The other half is run by unknown or private operators, but the report says “there is probably a high number of true facilities in government-affiliated facilities.”

Some children were detained in camp and returned home, while others were kept indefinitely, the report says, and were placed with Russian families who officially adopted them.

The lab sifted publicly available data and commercially available satellite images to track the facility.

According to Raymond, the “breakthrough” in the investigation is a selfie posted online by local Russian authorities, who accused Ukrainian children of their own. Researchers extracted location data from the photographs and tracked the child through satellites and reconnaissance.

Ukrainian officials said the report provides unrefutable evidence that Russia is systematically deporting children, illegally recruiting, reeducating them and militarizing them.

“It is clear that Russia is currently planning to use Ukraine’s own children more widely as a ‘weapon’ for us and Europe,” Andri Yermack, head of the Ukrainian presidential office, said in a statement.

Yale researchers said they shared data with the UN Security Council, which Russia places. The lab shares historical data with the International Criminal Court, which issued a warrant in 2023 for President Putin and Russian official Maria Alexeyevna Lvova Belova, who is in charge of child rights.

Russia has denied that it commits a war crime. Without directly mentioning Ukraine, First Lady Melania Trump filed a light letter of children in a complaint to Putin in a letter her husband delivered to Russian leaders in August during an Alaska summit. Ukraine said the return of children must be part of any contract to end the war.

Yale Lab worked on a cutoff to Trump’s fundraising

The research group received funding through the US State Department program until the Trump administration closed it earlier this year.

After an infuriated lawmaker warned that satellite images and biometric data used to track stolen children could be lost as a result, the Department of State temporarily allowed them to recover funds and transfer information. Ukrainian authorities want to use archived data to bring children home and prosecute Russian officials who are responsible for illegal adoption.

Raymond said the lab had a difficult fight to continue its investigation after funding SPIGOT was stopped. After that, rescue came in the form of a “Ukrainian-American grandmother.”

“I have these incredible messages of $5, $10, and $25 donations, “I don’t have much. I’m on the bond, but you’re looking for kids, so just keep going,” Raymond said.

Hall of Fame QB Dan Marino reveals his diagnosis of liver disease

0

Football Hall of Fame Dan Marino has revealed he has been dealing with liver disease for nearly 20 years, but he believes that adjusting his lifestyle will “will make his prognosis “and improve.”

In an interview with People Magazine, the former Miami Dolphins quarterback first began to feel “a little tired” in 2007, and discovered that he had steatosis or mash associated with metabolic dysfunction after regularly testing.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, this condition, previously known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, is caused by excess fat cells that accumulate in the liver.

“The doctor said it was reversible right away, it can be cared for, but for me, they were saying, ‘You have to exercise, you have to lose weight,'” Marino told people.

Marino, 64, says he exercises more regularly than after the play day is over. And he made a big adjustment to his diet after the doctor said, “We’ll cut back on wine and pizza and candies, ice cream, that kind of thing.”

When Marino retired in 2000 after 17 seasons with Dolphins, he was the NFL’s greatest leader ever with passing yards (61,361), completes (4,967), and touchdown passes (420). He was a league MVP in 1984, a nine-time Pro Bowler and the first quarterback to throw more than 5,000 yards in a season.

Marino was the first voter to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005.

Is the government trying to shut down? Why is that possible?

Republicans have just proposed a seven-week extension of funding. It doesn’t address Democrats’ Medicaid demands, but it will increase lawmakers’ security.

play

WASHINGTON – Congressional Republicans introduced short-term funding measures on September 16th, leaving the government open until just before Thanksgiving.

In hopes to avoid a seemingly inevitable shutdown, the bill will mostly maintain its current funding levels until November 21st. It also adds nearly $90 million to enhance the security of Congress, Supreme Court justice and executive officers following the September 10 assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

But the bill will do nothing to address Democrats’ concerns about what they call the “immediate health care crisis.” It warns that Medicaid cuts recently enacted by the Republican Party and the Affordable Care Act subsidies are about to wreak havoc across the country. They refuse to attack funding contracts unless these issues are addressed.

“There’s no chance we’ll do that,” House Speaker of R-louisiana Mike Johnson said of eliminating Medicaid cuts. And he argued that the impending changes to “Obamacare” should not be related to time-sensitive government funding transactions, as they will not be in effect until the end of this year.

These differences will once the funding is gone on September 30th, again increasing the chances of the government being shut down. The leaders of both parties have already pointed to their fingers.

“By refusing to work with Democrats, Republicans are leading our country straight to shutdown,” Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakem Jeffries said in a joint statement.

Meanwhile, Johnson said Democrats are embarking on “the fool’s gambit.”

“Some of them seem to believe shutting down the government will be some kind of life raft for them so that they can regain support from the American people,” he said.

Judge Sotomayor jumps into the freedom of speech argument swirling around Kirk

Sotomayor also said that Americans need to know the difference between president and king.

play

NEW YORK – Supreme Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor on September 16th jumped into a swirling free speech debate over the murder of Charlie Kirk.

“Every time they listen to a lawyer-trained representative, they say that freedom of speech should be criminalised in some way, “that law school has failed,” she said at an event on civic education.

Sotomayor did not identify any particular lawyers. But her remarks came the day after Attorney General Pam Bondy vowed to chase “people engaged in hate speech.”

“There’s freedom of speech, then there’s hate speech,” Bondy said on September 15th on Katy Miller’s podcast.

Vice President JD Vance, who holds a law degree from Yale Law School, said anyone celebrating Kirk’s death should be fired from his job.

“Call them, hell, call their employer,” Vance said when guest hosted the podcast Kirk on September 15th.

Sotomayor spoke at the New York Claw School at an event celebrating Constitution and Civil Rights Day.

She called social media “one of the biggest causes of misinformation on the Internet,” and said Americans need to know the difference between presidents and kings.

“If people knew these things from the start, I think they’d get more information about what’s important in democracy in terms of what people can and shouldn’t,” she said.

Her remarks on freedom of speech answered questions about the role of law schools in instilling citizen perceptions.

Sotomayor called citizens an important part of studying law.

“Because it’s because of that system that you work as a lawyer,” she said. “And you’re never in a position to advocate for change or represent it in a full-sam manner unless you understand how the system affects you and your clients.”

Bondi has been criticized by both left and right for her comments about hate speech.

“Someone needs to explain to Bondi that he is repulsing what is called “hate speech,” which is protected by the First Amendment. She should know this.”

Bondi wasn’t upset.

“Hate speech that crosses boundaries with the threat of violence is not protected by the First Amendment. It’s a crime,” Bondi posted on X.

play

Air filters help keep the engine clean and need to be replaced frequently to ensure that the vehicle runs smoothly.

Air entering your intake must be filtered to prevent dirt and other contaminants from reaching the engine. That’s where the filter comes in. Fortunately, the air filter is easy to check and easily replace.

According to AutoZone, air filters need to be replaced once a year or every 12,000 miles, but if you live in an area with a lot of dust and dirt, you need to replace them more frequently. For some vehicles, you can also easily reach the filter without the help of the tool. Here’s how to quickly replace yours:

Select the right filter

Before you begin, you need to find the right filter type for your car. To find this, you can look at the owner’s manual or open the hood and check it out yourself. Once you know the type you need, you can purchase it from an auto store or online retailer.

Find the filter housing

First, press the hood release button from inside the car to unlock it and open the hood the whole time. The filter housing is a black box connected to the air intake. Trust us, it’s hard to miss it.

Now release and open the latch holding the home in place. Some cars have bolts that lock the housing, so you should first loosen and remove it using a socket or ratchet wrench with the correct sizing.

Remove the old filter

You can latch and open the housing to remove the old filter inside. Just looking at it will let you know if you need to replace it. If it appears dirty and worn, you need to go. If not, you can stay a little longer before throwing it in the trash can.

If you find it necessary to replace it, remove the old filter and discard it. Next, place the new filter inside and make sure the rubber ends fit perfectly into the home. Now close the housing and secure the latch. If you need to loosen them to open the housing in advance, don’t forget to re-illuminate the bolts.

Can I clean and reuse the old filter instead of replacing it?

In some cases, you can reuse it, but there are a few things to consider before cleaning and reusing the filter.

If you notice it’s not too dirty, you can use compressed air or water to clean it. Most filters are intended to be replaced and are not that expensive, so it’s best to replace them when doing so.

Is it really easy?

yes! The truth is that changing the air filter is cheap and simple. We like it.

Doing this yourself is one of the easiest car maintenance jobs you can do, yet one of the most important things. It is essential to continue to exclude contaminants to prevent them from entering the engine.

Learning how to change your air filter yourself will make you feel like a professional. Plus, you don’t have to worry about being overcharged at the car shop during an oil change.

Cillian Murphy, Christopher Nolan, and why “Romo” is the treatment for “FOMO”

0

play

Has Cillian Murphy discovered a treatment for “FOMO”?

The 49-year-old “Steve” actor appeared to be building a new term this month at Variety’s Toronto Film Festival studio. There, he was asked about his lack of appearing in the film adaptation of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.” Murphy and Nolan are longtime collaborators, and Murphy won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in Nolan’s 2023 film “Oppenheimer.”

But don’t worry, Murphy says. He has no “fomo” or “fear to miss” above the “Odyssey.” It’s exactly the opposite.

“I have a Romo: ‘Relief of what I missed,'” Murphy jokingly said. “No, I can’t wait to see it. If the world directors can work on ‘Odyssey’, it’ll be Christopher Nolan. I’m very excited to see it. He is 1 million. He is a large part of my life as an actor.

Murphy expanded this view when he appeared in “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” posted online on September 9th.

“It’s a real gift to go and see Chris’ movies and watch without the terrible burden of looking at your own stupid head,” he said.

You are already doing your best, but we are here to make your life even better. Sign up for our newsletter better.

Mental health experts say that when it comes to fighting the frightening FOMO, Murphy is actually working on something. This feeling is often accompanied by deep anxiety, but reconstructing how we feel about what we think we’re “missing” can help alleviate it.

“In life, there are opportunities we can pursue, and there are things we can’t do for a variety of reasons,” says psychotherapist Stephanie Salkis. “The important thing is to stay in the present.”

What is “FOMO”?

Invented in 2004 and promoted to popularity over the next decade, the term FOMO describes the specific anxiety that arises when a person feels that he is missing out on a significant social interaction and moves to try to make it right. This means ensuring that others are constantly or forced to reach out to stay connected.

In one study in 2013, a group of psychologists defined FOMO simply as “a widespread anxiety that others may have experience of absenteeism.”

It is often associated with the rise of social media and is considered a side effect of knowing a lot about each other’s daily lives. Here’s the reason: Are you so afraid of that if you don’t need to see what you’re missing through Facebook, Instagram, or Tiktok?

FOMO is a complex sensory phenomenon that can be linked to several mental health outcomes.

In a 2021 study published by the World Journal of Clinical Case, authors Mayank Gupta and Aditya Sharma wrote that FOMO is associated with a variety of negative life experiences and emotions, including lack of sleep, poor life ability, emotional tension, physical health, anxiety, and lack of emotional control. Cognitive behaviors related to FOMO include compulsive refreshes and notifications on social media sites, and increase anxiety as individuals are waiting for a “reward” for messages or updates.

Is “Romo” the answer to “fomo”?

In reality, in life you can’t do everything. Time and energy are finite resources, and we must identify the activities that we spend on them. Therefore, reconciliation with this is important for mental health.

Sarkis says reconstructing “FOMO” as “Lomo” is a healthy way to do this. Instead of focusing on what you miss in life, focus on what you do instead and give yourself a blessing to rest.

“Acknowledge your disappointment, then be proactive and think about what you can do instead,” she says. “If I had been there, what kind of opportunity would I have had now?”

She adds that it is important to recognize what’s behind your “FOMO.” Are you afraid to miss out as activity is what you actually want to do or your FOMO has to do with how others perceive you?

“When talking about FOMO, what we miss is the fears of is that we think we need to see what we really want to do or we want to post,” says Sarkis. “Sometimes these two get cloudy.”

Saving too much can backfire

0

If enough is enough, there are points.

play

If you’re a working American who reads personal finance websites on some level, there’s probably a certain mantra you’re used to: save, save, save a little more for retirement.

The reality is that most workers can expect monthly benefits from Social Security, but these checks are not enough to maintain your standard of living. This is because if you bring back average wages, Social Security will only replace about 40% of your pre-retirement salary.

Retireers often need between 70% and 80% of their previous pay to keep up with costs without cutting too many unnecessary cuts. Social Security only provides about half of that amount, so retirement savings may need to compensate for the rest. So you need to save, save, save.

But in some cases, you can actually pay to hit the brakes on your retirement savings. This is when you might want specifically do not have Contributes to an IRA or 401(k).

1. There is no emergency fund

The purpose of the emergency fund is to cover surprise bills without liability, or to sell your investments to come up with money. It also means getting through the period of unemployment.

If you don’t have an emergency fund for at least three months, you should stop funding your retirement account and prioritize short-term savings instead. If you lose your job, need money in a pinch and have to tap your IRA or 401(k) early, you may need sudden penalties. Additionally, there is the risk that you will have to sell your investment when its value decreases.

2. I want to retire early

The good thing about funding retirement accounts like the IRA and 401(k) is that they enjoy tax cuts in the savings process. However, if your goal is to retire early and you are on track to do so, you may want to stop putting money in your IRA or 401(k) and instead start funding a taxable brokerage account.

Obviously, you will lose benefits such as pre-tax contributions and tax-deferred profits from traditional retirement accounts, or tax-exempt contributions and withdrawals in losses. However, you have the flexibility to tap your account anytime without highlighting the early withdrawal penalty.

3. You’ve saved enough

It is possible to argue that there is no way you will save too much after retirement. However, contributing to a retirement account means rejecting certain short-term experiences and luxury, and if you have a very robust IRA or 401(k) plan balance for age, it may be okay to stop breaking up with money that way.

Of course, even a $1 or $2 million nest egg may not convert into as much retirement income as you think when considering inflation and the need to increase its total. But if you’re 55 people for $4.5 million and you’re happy with that balance, then from this point on there’s no problem saying your strategy.

Usually, when you are capable of doing so, it makes sense to save money for retirement. However, in these circumstances, it is recommended that you stop funding your retirement account and move in a different direction.

Trump mixes pageantry and nuclear push on a state visit to the UK

President Trump set out for the UK on Tuesday. He mixes the national visit pageantry with policy efforts to expand nuclear energy.

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump sets off for the UK on September 16 for a three-day swing to the UK, mixing with a pageantry of state visits and policy efforts to expand nuclear energy and invest in new technologies.

The president’s second state visit to Britain, the trip to London follows an invitation from the royal family that British Prime Minister Kiel Stahme extended when he visited the White House in February. Trump’s first UK visit took place in 2019 during his first term.

Things you need to know about Trump’s trips.

Place a wreath on Queen Elizabeth’s grave

After arriving Tuesday night, Trump and first lady Melania Trump visit Windsor Castle on Wednesday, September 17th to meet Prince and Prince of Wales, William and Catherine, according to a preview of the carefully choregraphed visit from the White House.

Charles III and Queen Camilla are scheduled to officially welcome the first couple, but Camila’s status is unknown after attending and attending the September 16 funeral for the Duchess of Kent when they recover from acute sinusitis.

Trump is scheduled to have lunch with the king and queen in the dining room in the castle state. The first couple then visit the Chapel of St. George and personally place the wreath at the grave of Queen Elizabeth II, who died in 2022 at the age of 96. Trump met the Queen during a previous state visit.

Trump will then join King, Queen, Priority and US military families for a ceremony on the turf east of the castle. The state banquet follows at the castle.

The protest is set to follow Trump during his visit. The Stop Trump Union said it organized a protest outside Windsor Parish Church. There, organizers hold signs that Trump is not welcome.

Trump holds bilateral meetings to press conference with British Prime Minister

Trump and Starmer are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting on Thursday, September 18th. There will then be a business reception where both men make a statement and a joint press conference is held.

Trump and Priorities formed close relationships in the second term and overcame their harsh political differences. Starmer was a self-proclaimed socialist, and Trump pushed the Republican party even further to the right. They met last month when Trump visited Scotland and visited two golf properties he owns there.

Meanwhile, the First Lady and Queen tour the doll house of Queen Mary in Windsor Castle and the royal library. The First Lady later joins Frogmore House and the Princess of Wales at Gardens, meeting Dwaynefields, the chief scout of the British Scouts Association.

According to White House officials, the trip aims to highlight the historic relationship between the United States and Britain, and will also celebrate the 250th anniversary of the US’s establishment following the declaration of independence from the UK.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, White House Director Susie Wills and Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller are among the White House’s top officials to join Trump on a trip.

Promotional technology, nuclear power generation

Visits are heavy in the pageantry, but Trump will serve several policy objectives, according to senior Trump administration officials who explained to reporters about the agenda on terms of anonymity.

Trump and Priorities will promote new science and technology partnerships between the two countries, including new investments of more than $10 billion. Authorities said several high-tech CEOs in the US were on hand to attend the meeting.

Additionally, the two countries are expected to announce cooperation and agreements on nuclear power, the region where Trump has prioritized.

This includes a plan for a partnership between US and UK companies to deploy nuclear reactors in the UK, and a memorandum between the two countries seeking to “rationalize” the regulatory process for the construction of nuclear power plants. The UK aims to achieve full independence from Russia’s nuclear fuel by 2028.

Trump officials and his British counterparts will also announce efforts to advance defence technology.

Ukraine, Steel Tariffs, Mandelson

Trump’s visit comes after Britain became the first country to reach a trade deal with a new Republican administration in May. The agreement includes US tariffs at a baseline of 10% on UK imports, reducing the 25% tariffs on automobile imports to 10%.

However, US tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from the UK remain at 25%. Starmer is trying to use a meeting with Trump to finalize an agreement to lower tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

And while it is not officially on the agenda, it is certainly argued by Trump and Starme, Russia’s war with Ukraine.

Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in August failed to lead to progress towards a peace deal, as he had hoped. In an exhibition of Ukraine’s unity, priorities joined the alliance of European allies’ leaders at the White House on August 18th, with Ukrainian President Volodymea Zelensky meeting with Trump.

Trump’s trip also clashed with a controversy involving Peter Mandelson, who was fired as British ambassador last week, after newly reported emails and other documents showed his former support for extraordinary financial figures, Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump, a longtime friend of Epstein, faces his own Epstein controversy over the refusal of the Justice Department, which refused to release all documents related to the government’s investigation of Epstein.

After saying goodbye to the King and Queen, Trump is scheduled to return to the United States in Air Force 1 on Thursday night, September 18th.

Three days later, on September 21, the president will depart for Arizona and attend a service ceremony for the late Trump ally, the conservative activist who was killed by the Assassins last week. Trump said he expects him to speak in service.

  • The top five teams remained unchanged in week 3.
  • One 2-0 team made 15 spots ahead and almost made it into the top 10.
  • Patrick Mahomes is 0-2 for the first time in his career. How much is KC in our weekly power poll?

NFL Power Rankings (previous ranks in parentheses) that will take place in the third week of the 2025 season:

1. Philadelphia Eagles (1): They haven’t flashed the 2024 advantage yet, and QB Jalen Hurts has barely done his arm so far. But the real-life champions are 2-0, and it’s a difficult mark to maintain given that the next three opponents were the playoff teams, starting with the Rams team that nearly knocked out Philadelphia from the postseason last season.

2. Buffalo Bills (2): After stomping the Jets, they will start a three-game homestand against their opponents by combining a 1-5 record and will not see another 2024 playoff team (KC) until November. Certainly it feels like the fast track with AFC’s No. 1 seed.

3. Green Bay Packers (3): How well does De Micah Parsons fit this unit? With each PFF, he takes on the pace (very early) under pressure of 85, despite playing little more than half of the snaps on the puck.

4. Baltimore Ravens (4): They ran for 45 yards on Sunday, the lowest total in the game played by Lamar Jackson since becoming QB1 seven years ago. But somehow, their total points against Cleveland (41) almost coincided with the rushing output. However, there is no more coast run for the Ravens, who are about to face the winner of the 2024 division each for the next four weeks.

5. LosAngeles Rams (5): For all headlines this attack generates, the defense has abandoned one TD – just one TD – – no other clubs can match.

6. LosAngeles Chargers (7): They are set to be the third team as the league expanded to 32 teams in 2002 and opens the season with a 3-0 record that includes sweeps for all opposition in the three divisions.

7. Commander Washington (6): If the knees of QB Jayden Daniels are healed enough by Sunday, reducing contractions and losses in Rambo, reducing at least the loss of their healthy player – QB Jayden Daniels, there’s an extra rest when the Raiders come to the country’s capital in a short week.

8. Kansas City Chiefs (8): QB Patrick Mahomes is the only player who can run the ball effectively, so here’s the idea – get some carry on the 310 pound LT Josh Simmons.

9. TampaBay Buccaneers (10): Congratulations to LB Lavonte David, the first player in franchise history to launch 200 games. If only the growing cast of injured teammates is very durable.

10. Detroit Lions (14): Who is Ben? During a 52-point explosion against the previous OC on Sunday, the Lions averaged a team record of 8.8 yards per play under new coordinator John Morton.

11. IndianapolisColts (26): Daniel “Indiana” Jones? Take him and his teammates seriously. The quarterback and his undefeated team quickly became a surprise tale of a young season. This is likely to continue on future trips to Nashville.

12. San Francisco 49ers (13): This is the fourth time the crew of HC Kyle Shanahan has been held on the road with two wins. The Niners have gone to the NFC title game with at least three previous instances.

13. Arizona Cardinals (11): That’s good for cards where the 39-year-old Revenant DL Calais Campbell still knows how to close the game.

14. Seattle Seahawks (19): QB Samdarnold threw his 100th career TD pass in Sunday’s victory. (Congratulations.) At this rate, he will need to play forty more seasons to overtake Tom Brady.

15. Pittsburgh Steelers (9): The spotlight remains undoubtedly trained by QB Aaron Rodgers, but his historically reliable defense and the fact that his special team has already surrendered 63 points should have something to do with manager Mike Tomlin.

16. Denver Broncos (12): It’s probably not surprising that QB Bo Nix is targeting former Oregon teammate Troy Franklin.

17. Atlanta Falcons (20): this Did Defense generate six bags and four takeaways? In one game? Seriously? That could be a rather ominous sign for the rest of the NFC South.

18. Cincinnati Bengals (16): Barrow? Brothers? What do you think will happen to your feet when you are tainting your Air Jordan? Now your peers will face five 2024 playoff teams without you for the next five weeks, and that’s for the first and foremost.

19. Jacksonville Jaguars (18): The second week of the Grand Travis Hunter experiment included three catches and killer pass interference violations against the defense that maintained a winning drive in the Cincinnati game. They haven’t chosen a rookie, but other teams would obviously do that at the time.

20. Houston Texans (17): The next two matches against AFC South Foes are inadequate attack time that doesn’t generate 270 yards or 20 points in either of the first two games.

twenty one. Dallas Cowboys (23): How’s the Big D revival of RB Javonte Williams? Tied to a league lead with three rushing TDs, he matches his career with his next career.

twenty two. Minnesota Viking (15): For his apology to the injured JJ McCarthy, Wildstat-backed Carson Wentz could be the first quarterback to start six different teams in six seasons of stretching, dating back to 1966.

twenty three. LasVegas Raiders (24): Rookie RB Ashton Jeanty has almost gone anywhere after averaging 2.4 yards per 2.4 yards in two weeks.

twenty four. New England Patriot (25): Tied to a league lead with a 3½ bag, Olb Harold Landry III is quickly proven that he deserves his offseason investment.

twenty five. New York Giants (28): Next, let’s look at the pair date with the AFC West Team (Chief, Charger) – against the Saints in the fifth week, as a sweet spot for Rookie QB Jackson Darts to insert into the lineup.

26. ChicagoBears (22): Last year’s first round pick looks very good – an obvious reference to the emergency WR Roma Odunze.

27. New York Jets (21): Where do New Yorkers go when they need to escape from big cities? Florida. The next two games in NYJ will be in Tampa and Miami.

28. New Orleans Saints (31): Praise them for being so competitive despite their lack of experience under the center and headset.

29. Tennessee Titans (30): No. 1 Pick Cam Ward has already been fired 11 times, putting him at pace to suffer nearly 100 games, over 17 games. Someone will help this guy.

30. Carolina Panthers (29): Monday may have been worse than Sunday amid revelation that the beginnings of Austin Corbett and Robert Hunt have been heading towards IR at least for a long time.

31. Cleveland Browns (27): Dillon Gabriel softened Sunday’s defeat to Baltimore. It seems fair that Chedure Sanders should have a similar opportunity for Green Bay.

32. Miami Dolphins (32): Given that they surrendered 33 points each for the first two weeks and have not yet generated turnover, they give points for consistency.

Are Tesla stocks at risk without an EV tax credit?

0

EV tax credits will no longer be available. Are you still buying Tesla?

play

The looming expiration date for federal electric vehicles (EVs) tax deductions is shaking the EV market and Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA)major American EV manufacturers may be the most affected. The stock fell 45% in 2025, reaching $214 in April.

And despite the stock’s recent bounces back in weeks/months, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is not too optimistic about the short-term outlook.

Tesla has another rough revenue report

In its second quarter revenue report on July 23, Tesla saw a 16% drop in second quarter sales. Automakers also saw a year-over-year decline in both revenue and vehicle delivery.

Musk said in July that the company had several “bad quarters” and highlighted increased tariff-related costs and expiration dates for tax credits as contribution factors. The company plans to limit vehicle inventory for the third quarter, and it is unclear whether it will be able to guarantee delivery of orders placed after August.

Musk, who was an adviser to President Donald Trump until May, said in April that he believed he would benefit “prosperity.” Tesla is a US manufacturer, but imports a variety of auto parts from multiple foreign countries affected by tariffs, including battery cells from China.

End of EV Tax Credit

The federal government EV tax credit, first introduced in 2009, was implemented as an incentive for U.S. consumers to buy electric vehicles. The current credit for a new EV purchase is $7,500, while a second-hand car purchase can receive $4,000.

But now that Congress has passed President Trump’s big and beautiful bill, these credit incentives will expire on September 30th. Consumers who deliver cars after September 30th will still receive credit if their purchase is made before the deadline.

In 2024, the US Treasury Department and the IRS Office reported that the government spent more than $2 billion in federal tax credits on purchases of more than 300,000 electric vehicles. It is likely that consumers will take advantage of expired credits and will see a temporary surge in EV sales in September, then falling afterwards.

A survey published in the National Economic Research Bureau in October 2024 predicts that if credit is eliminated, U.S. EV sales will fall by nearly 30%.

Tesla stock price rose in August

EV’s stock price rose 9% in August, marking its second consecutive month of price rise. However, as stock prices are currently down 16% in the first week of September in 2025, there is much work to do. It has been more than eight months since Tesla stock reached its all-time high, peaking at $488 on December 2, 2024.

Competitors such as Ford Motor Company and General Motors will also be affected by the tax credit exclusion, but gas vehicle production will be receding. Ford’s stock price rose 18% in 2025 as of early September, but GM’s 17% increased.

Are you buying Tesla stock now?

Tesla stocks have been rising in recent months, but macroeconomic factors such as the ongoing tariff disputes and the presidential administration, which has actively rolled back EV initiatives, have made stocks a potentially volatile investment.

Investors can make more informed decisions about the long-term value of stocks within their portfolio once the tax credit expires. And there’s a high chance that stocks will bounce back when President Trump leaves office. But for now, investors need to wait for their next earnings report before purchasing the stock.

RFK’s Maha wants to end the “war with whole milk.” Is it time?

0

play

It was the 1980s. Fitness icons such as Richard Simmons, Jane Fonda and Arnold Schwarzenegger have captivated audiences at home and at cinemas. The USDA has released the country’s first set of nutrition guidelines. For the years that followed, the food pyramids decorated countless classrooms, and the American war with saturated fats was on us.

According to some nutrition experts, one food became an outstanding victim: whole milk.

Whole milk contains more saturated fats and calories compared to low-fat or skim milk. Saturated fat is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, and general guidance suggests that saturated fat intake should be limited in favor of unsaturated fat wherever possible.

However, recent studies have shown that whole milk and other dairy products may not be associated with such negative health outcomes.

The findings have infuriated discussions in the scientific community. Some experts argue that it guarantees changes in dietary guidelines, while others argue that science is not conclusive.

“Understanding how certain foods affect health is complicated,” says Dr. Gabby Headlick, associate director of food and nutrition policy at the George Washington University Institute for Food Safety and Nutrition Security.

Whole milk “war”

The health team of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Secretary of Health and Human Services, wants to get whole milk back.

On September 9th, his Make America Healthy Commission presented an action plan to combat chronic pediatric illness in the United States, including changes to the “broken food pyramid.” According to Food and Drug Director Dr. Martin Makary, Ph.D.

He called it “one of the greatest misinformation sources in modern American history.”

“We’re finishing a 50-year war with natural, saturated fat,” McCurry said during a press conference. “Amazingly, a regulated school should have a certain amount of whole milk. That’s scientifically meaningless. It was government nutritional guidance based on dogma rather than evidence.”

Recent evidence indicates that dairy fats may not increase the risk of heart disease or stroke. A March study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that eating milk, yogurt and cheese, regardless of fat content, is associated with the risk of cardiovascular disease.

According to recommendations from the MAHA Committee Report, the health agency said it would remove restrictions on whole milk sales at schools, allowing districts to offer full-fat dairy options along with fat-reducing alternatives, and eliminate the essential fat requirements of the federal nutrition program.

Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, cardiologist and food director, is the medical research institute at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, and agrees to the committee’s plans.

He said that by removing the full-fat option from the school menu, children have replaced whole milk with sweeter options like chocolate and strawberry milk, making up for the lack of fat loss and the lack of flavor in the skim milk options.

“Dairy fat remains imprisoned where it doesn’t belong,” Mozafarian said. “It’s obviously time to remove the limits of dairy fat…it’s been a long time late.”

“Science is still unstable.”

Some experts want to modify dietary guidelines, while others say more research is needed.

Qi Sun, an associate professor of nutrition and epidemiology at Harvard Chang Chang School, who co-authored the study in March, said adding whole milk to the school could be overtaken. He argues that standard American diets are already made up of too much saturated fat through fast food, meat and other sauces, and reintroducing whole milk may make things worse.

While US dietary guidelines recommend that individuals limit their saturated fat intake to less than 10% of their daily calories, USDA researchers estimate that in 2022, only about a third of more than 20 adults met these guidelines.

However, adults who met these criteria drew a complex picture of how much carbohydrates consumed, significantly fewer protein and total fat, and how to replace those calories, whether it was considered “healthy” than saturated fats.

“Dairy products are very complicated,” Sun said. “Unless there is overwhelming evidence, I’ll choose an option to maintain the current recommendations.”

Headrick, a graduate of George Washington University, agrees.

“Recent research suggests that saturated fats from dairy products may not have the same harmful effects as saturated fats from other foods…science is still unstable,” she said.

  • Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz has announced he will run for reelection in 2026.
  • The video of the announcement of Walz’s campaign references recent gun violence and highlighted past bipartisan achievements.
  • His platforms include cutting middle class taxes, investing in schools and ending gun violence.

Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz launched his 2026 reelection campaign on Tuesday, September 16th.

Walz has announced his re-elect bid in a video posted to social media where he and his dog ride along the Minnesota countryside.

Minnesota’s current governor 61 said times of uncertainty could bring people together, citing previous achievements that require collaboration, such as child tax credits and paid family leave policies.

“But that’s in these moments we have to go together,” Waltz said. “We can’t lose hope because we see what we can do when we work together.”

First elected in 2018, Walz said he wanted to cut middle class taxes while investing in public schools, fighting fraud, ending gun violence and protecting individual rights “no matter what you look like and who you love.”

Waltz also raised the recent Minnesota shooting. He said he was saddened by “beautiful people who were succumbed to gun violence.” Minnesota recently lost two children to suspected target attacks in Minneapolis and state legislator Melissa Hortman.

DFLER also highlighted recent bipartisan collaborations on the Minnesota budget, with spending down $6 billion. It was smaller than the previous two years’ budget.

“I’m not finished yet, so I’m running for reelection,” Waltz said. “We want Minnesota to be a place where everyone has the opportunity to succeed in every corner of the state.”

According to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office, Waltz, who ran for vice president in the 2024 presidential campaign, won the governor’s first re-election bid in 2022 with nearly 52.3% of the vote. Republican candidate Scott Jensen in 2022 won 44.6% of the vote.

If elected, Walz will serve for a third term as governor. He will become the governor of Minnesota, serving three consecutive terms in the office for four years. Waltz worked at the US home for sixth division before becoming governor.

In February, Gov. Peggy Flanagan launched her campaign to replace U.S. Sen. Tina Smith D-Minn.

Several Republican candidates have launched a governor’s campaign, including former St. Cloud City Council member Jeff Johnson. Other Republican hopes include Kendall Quall and Scott Jensen.
