Will there be a snowstorm in the forecast for Thanksgiving?

0

play

Widespread storms will be a major topic for travelers heading into next week’s Thanksgiving, forecasters said.

“The storm will impact much of the eastern two-thirds of the United States during the busiest period before the Thanksgiving holiday, when millions of people hit highways and head to airports,” said AccuWeather meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.

Thanksgiving is the busiest travel holiday, with 82 million Americans traveling by land or air, according to AAA’s 2025 Holiday Forecast.

The storm will primarily bring rain, but snow is possible along the northern edge.

Chubu storm area

AccuWeather meteorologist Bernie Rayno said travel delays are expected on Tuesday, Nov. 25 and Wednesday, Nov. 26 as the storm heads through the Midwest and toward the Northeast.

According to forecasts, the storm is expected to move into the Midwest from Texas between Tuesday and Wednesday, covering areas from northeastern Texas to Arkansas, eastern Missouri and the southern half of Illinois.

“So there will be some travel delays across the central United States,” he said. “Strong to severe thunderstorms are also possible.”

“It’s plausible that thunderstorms could impact travel in Atlanta and Florida” by Wednesday, Nov. 26, Houston-based meteorologist Matt Lanza said on his blog, The Eyewall. “Winds could impact flights between Chicago and Minneapolis,” he said.

“The storm will lose some of its strength and moisture by Wednesday, Nov. 26, as it moves from the central part of the state to the northeast, but given the amount of movement, even a few hours of rain could cause significant problems for roads and airstrips from Washington, D.C., to Philadelphia, New York City and Boston,” AccuWeather meteorologist Paul Pastelok said in an online forecast.

Snowfall is also possible

The storm is expected to weaken and move over the Ohio Valley on Wednesday, but there will still be some delays, Leino said. Then cold air comes in from behind.

From Wednesday into Thursday, cold air coming down from Canada will meet moist air over the Great Lakes, bringing the potential for snow.

“Next week we’re going to see snow in the upper Midwest, the northern lakes,” he said, referring to areas beyond Wisconsin into northern Michigan and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

pattern change

Temperatures will be a rollercoaster across the country next week.

“After a warm start in the West through November and continued cold in the East, a major pattern change is likely to occur late in the month and into early December,” the Climate Prediction Center wrote. “Thanksgiving week will likely be colder in the western and northern Plains, with milder air in the east.”

A transition to a colder pattern is then predicted for much of the north-central United States after Thanksgiving and into early December (see map above). This change in pattern will facilitate a transition to more wintry-like conditions across the Midwest and central United States, including significantly below-normal temperatures and the potential for heavy snow, CPC added.

The forecast predicts that this will likely mean “increased intrusion of cold air into the northern portion of the continental United States” in the coming weeks.

Where do I start when buying a “hobby” car? Ask a car doctor.

0

play

  • When shopping for a hobby car, attend car shows and buy the most complete, running vehicle you can afford.
  • To save money on replacing your old car’s windshield, consider shopping for prices at a professional glass company or buying a used item from a salvage yard.
  • Some vehicles, like certain Hondas, may consume oil between changes, which the manufacturer considers normal within certain limits.

question: I’m currently retired and considering some sort of “hobby” car. Any ideas where to start? I’m not wealthy by any means, but I do have a small watertight barn for storage.

answer: Even though it’s late in the season, go to as many car shows as you can. Why not take a look at the vehicle you’re interested in and ask a lot of questions? Most people are happy to share their old car journeys.

Also, buy the most complete car you can afford. Having a car that runs and drives is a great start.

It depends on what you are looking for. Performance cars can be expensive, but a simple six-cylinder engine convertible is fun.

Old trucks are practical and fun to own.

How to cure a bad case of “curb rash”

question: I bought a used Audi. It looks like the previous owner used Braille to park it. Can my car’s wheels be repaired?

answer: Yes, “curb rash” can be repaired. In fact, many car dealerships have on-site repair workers.

Start by making a few calls to your local car dealerships to see which ones they use and recommend. Additionally, some paintless dent removal companies are branching out into this business.

Where to find an affordable windshield for a 25 year old Honda

question: I have a 25 year old Honda and it needs a windshield. When I called the dealer, I was shocked at the high price. Are there cheaper alternatives?

answer: Call your car windshield company and shop around for prices. You may also be able to find a used windshield in good condition at a repair shop. Using used parts can save you money on various repairs and often allows you to obtain genuine equipment parts rather than lower-quality aftermarket parts.

Is it a good idea to run the air conditioner from time to time to keep your car running while it’s dormant?

question: When driving a dormant car that will be left unused for several weeks, should you turn on the air conditioning, and for how long?

answer: We recommend running the air conditioner for 5 to 10 minutes to circulate the oil in the system and keep the seals lubricated.

When it’s very cold, most air conditioning systems stop working. If the temperature is above 35 degrees, it’s okay to periodically (sometimes) run your air conditioner for a few minutes.

How much oil does Honda CR-V use?

question: I have a 2015 CR-V with 86,000 miles. I purchased a used car with 34,383 miles from a Honda dealer in December 2017 as a Honda certified vehicle. I immediately realized that I was using oil.

I took it to a Honda dealer. They refilled it and told us to check again. The car was consuming about 1 quart every 2,000 miles. The dealer said this is within Honda’s specifications. I’ve lived with this for years.

The car currently has 86,000 miles on it. A friend of mine has the same car and doesn’t use any oil. why?

answer: Honda considers 1 quart of oil usage to be normal for 2,000 to 3,000 miles. If your engine consumes 1 quart of oil in less than 1,000 miles, it may need repair.

The reason why two cars with the same engine use oil at different rates can be as simple as how you drive your car and how often you check your oil.

If your car is 10 years old and has 86,000 miles, add oil as needed and change it at least once a year, or as indicated by the oil reminder light.

President Trump calls ‘quiet pig’ and ‘terrible reporter’ after jab at reporter

0

A recent exchange between a journalist and President Donald Trump has been making headlines online, but it’s not the first time Trump has had harsh words for a journalist.

On November 14, on Air Force One en route to Palm Beach, Florida, a reporter asked President Trump additional questions about the Jeffrey Epstein file.

Trump scolded her, pointing his finger at her, leaning over and saying, “Quiet! Quiet, pig.”

Trump has long criticized the media, filing lawsuits against news organizations over their coverage of him and lashing out at reporters. Let’s look back at some notable events.

Watch the video: President Trump is seen telling a female reporter to “quiet, pig.”

play

Trump tells reporter, “Shut up, you pig,” after Epstein’s email question

Epstein’s emails sparked a tense exchange during a press conference, with President Donald Trump lashing out at the reporter.

Who did Trump call a pig?

CBS News White House correspondent Jennifer Jacobs was among those traveling on Air Force One, according to a social media post. The gagged video shows President Trump turning to other reporters and saying, “Quiet, little piggy,” just before asking “Jennifer” a question.

According to Jacobs’ social media posts, he was the other reporter who spoke when Trump said he had a “quiet, pig-like” job at Bloomberg.

A Bloomberg News spokesperson did not name the reporter, but told USA TODAY in a statement that the station is committed to fair and accurate reporting.

Other news outlets have identified her as Katherine Lucey.

Other journalists involved include Mary Bruce, Megyn Kelly, and Yamish Alcindor.

In another heated exchange in the Oval Office on Nov. 18, just days after the “quiet you pig” comment, ABC News’ Mary Bruce asked why President Trump didn’t order the release of the Epstein files without waiting for Congress to pass legislation.

“It’s not the question that bothers me, it’s your attitude. I think you’re a terrible reporter,” Trump said. “These are the questions I ask.”

Trump did not answer Bruce’s questions and continued to lash out at the reporter.

“This is a Democratic hoax,” Trump said, later adding, “The news coming out of ABC is so fake and so false that I think ABC should have its license taken away. And we have a great commissioner, we have a great commissioner, and we should look at that.”

ABC News did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment on Nov. 18.

Trump’s sharp comments about reporters, especially women, date back to the early days of his first presidential campaign. He talked about Megyn Kelly, who he asked during a Republican primary debate if she had presidential temperament, and later said, “Her eyes were bleeding, blood was coming out everywhere.”

In March 2020, President Trump told White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor, “Please be kind. There’s no need to make threats.” Earlier this year, he told a reporter who asked about TACO’s trade terms regarding tariffs that it was a “nasty question.” In September, he got into an argument with a reporter who was trying to ask him a question, and when she insisted, “I’m not offensive,” he called her “offensive.”

President Trump attacks media with lawsuits

Trump has filed lawsuits against the media in the past, but to no avail. In one case, a judge ordered President Trump to pay more than $392,000 in legal fees to The New York Times over a frivolous lawsuit. Other recent lawsuits against media companies include:

  • New York Times – President Trump announced on September 15 that he will file a $15 billion libel and defamation lawsuit against The New York Times. The Florida lawsuit cites a series of articles, editorials and books published by Penguin Random House that Trump’s lawyers claim are part of an “intentional and malicious defamation of President Trump,” according to court filings. The New York Times countered that the lawsuit was without merit. The original lawsuit was dismissed by a federal judge and refiled in October, according to NBC News.
  • Wall Street Journal – President Trump sued Dow Jones & Co., News Corp., owner Rupert Murdoch, and reporters Khadija Safdar and Joseph Palazzolo in July. This comes after the same media published an article about a birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein that appeared to be signed by President Trump. President Trump called the statement “false, malicious and defamatory.” The House Oversight Committee later released the letter, but the White House said it would continue to pursue legal action. The Wall Street Journal said it stands by its reporting and intends to fight the lawsuit. Trump sued the Journal for $10 billion.
  • CBS News – In October 2024, President Trump sued CBS News for $10 billion (later raised to $20 billion) over the editing of his “60 Minutes” interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris. Parent company Paramount settled the lawsuit for $16 million in July, according to Reuters.
  • ABC News – In March 2024, President Trump sued ABC News and host George Stephanopoulos over questions about E. Jean Carroll, who a jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation. ABC News settled the lawsuit for $15 million in December, according to Reuters.
  • Des Moines Register – President Trump sued the Des Moines Register (USA TODAY Network), its parent company Gannett (now known as USA TODAY), and polling firm J. Ann Selzer in December 2024, alleging that a poll released just before the election exaggerated Iowa’s support for former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. The parties have been fighting for months over jurisdiction over the case. Both USA TODAY and Selzer are moving to have Trump’s lawsuit dismissed. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages under Iowa’s consumer fraud law.

The White House also announced in February that it would replace the White House Correspondents’ Association in managing which news organizations are included in the reporter pool, following a dispute with the Associated Press over its refusal to update its guidance on the “Gulf of Mexico” to the “Gulf of America.” President Trump has also threatened legal action against the BBC.

Monster launches ‘women-focused’ Flrt energy drink. internet reaction

Flrt will join other “female-focused” energy drink brands Alani Nu and Bloom Nutrition.

play

As part of its efforts to expand its customer base, Monster Energy plans to launch a new “female-focused” energy drink in 2026, which has garnered mixed reactions.

Monster Energy CEO Hilton Schlossberg introduced Flrt, a “women’s brand” that offers zero-sugar beverages, during an earnings call on November 6.

Although the brand won’t hit shelves until next year, Flrt’s website is already up and running, promoting energy drinks that are “as vibrant, fearless, and fun as the women who drink them.” According to its website, the benefits of drinking Flrt, in addition to being sugar-free, include boosting collagen production, supporting skin and hair health, and boosting the immune system.

The sample Flrt cans shown on the website resemble Delia catalogs from the ’90s, with bright spring colors and abstract flowers as the brand’s logo.

“It’s confusing. Monster Energy has always been for girls,” TikTok user Yasmin Samman said in a recent video. “I understand what they were trying to do. They were trying to make money by capitalizing on the clean girl lifestyle, health, and wellness population. But calling this an energy drink just for women feels really condescending and offensive.”

USA TODAY contacted Monster Energy on Nov. 19 and did not immediately receive a response.

What flavors does Flrt offer?

At launch, Flrt will be available in four flavors: Strawberry Fling, Guava Mule, Berry Tempting and Sunset Squeeze, Scholsberg said.

When will Flrt be available in stores?

Flrt is expected to launch in early 2026, Schlossberg said on the earnings call.

Flrt enters the “female” energy drink market

Flrt isn’t the first women’s energy drink to hit the market.

During an earnings call on Nov. 12, Celsius chief of staff Toby Davids acknowledged Flrt, comparing it to Alani Nu, another women’s energy drink. Celsius announced the acquisition of Alani Nou earlier this year. Alani Nu was founded in 2018.

“I think it takes a lot of energy to build a community and get people excited about your brand. When it comes to energy, what you walk around with, what you hold in your hands, speaks volumes about who you are. And it takes years to build that,” David said on the call.

“We feel like we are the clear leader within this category, especially when it comes to women’s and sugar-free,” David continued. “So I expect other players to come in and there will be, but we’ve got a head start. This is a tough category to play in.”

Nutrabolt’s Bloom Nutrition, founded in 2019, is another energy drink line marketed toward a female audience.

What do people think about Flrt?

Since the announcement, Flrt has received mixed reactions from online users, with some women expressing their distaste for the women’s brand.

“Yeah, no, thank you, Monster. I don’t need ‘cheating.’ I’m sticking with the pink monster,” TikTok user Abbey Barnett said in the video. “My cute little pink monster is not masculine. I don’t need a feminine line.”

“The real question is, why does a drink have a gender? Is it a drink?! If I like the taste, I drink it…or am I missing something?” one TikTok user commented on Saman’s critical video of the new brand. “Is this like the argument that beer is for men and sweet white wine is for women…still?”

Some men have also expressed their disappointment with the brand online.

“Monster may have just made the most sexist marketing decision I’ve ever seen,” TikTok user Sieg So Based said in a recent video. “There are some pretty nice changes to these drinks. The colors are brighter, so they don’t seem as intense as the regular flavors. But that being said, this is not the way to go. Having a flower and naming it ‘Flrt’ is clearly girl code and I think it will be viewed negatively by most people.”

Monster plans to release several other new drinks in 2026

Flrt wasn’t the only new brand Monster teased in its latest earnings call. Let’s take a look at some others.

  • monster energy strawberry shotsugar-free 16-ounce cans, available in January.
  • Juice Monster Voodoo Grape, Rain, Watermelon Sour Gummy and bang lime pop dropavailable in February
  • Monster Energy Lando Norris Zero Sugarwill be available nationwide in early 2026
  • monster energy ultra punk punchavailable in March
  • full red appleavailable in April
  • NOS Grand Prix Guavaavailable in April
  • storm energy Sugar-free energy drink to be released in 2026
  • Monster Energy Utra Red/White/Blue Raz and Juice Monster Strawberry Lemonade Commemorating America’s 250th anniversary in July

Ohio follows President Trump in voting by mail

0

The Ohio House has approved a Senate bill that would require mail-in ballots to arrive and be counted by Election Day.

play

  • If passed by the Senate and signed by the governor, Ohio would no longer count ballots that arrive within four days of an election.
  • Supporters say the changes align with federal policy in Ohio, while opponents question the changes to a system they say works well.

Ohio may soon require voters to return their mail-in ballots by Election Day.

On November 19, the Ohio General Assembly voted 58-29 to approve a bill that would eliminate the grace period for mail-in absentee ballots that arrive after Election Day. The move comes as President Donald Trump vows to crack down on mail-in voting and the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to hear a case over voting deadlines.

State House Republicans have added a measure that would require the Ohio Secretary of State to automatically cancel the voter registrations of people who appear to be non-citizens based on state and federal databases. Democrats expressed concern that the change lacked guardrails to prevent conflicts with legal citizens.

The Ohio Senate must approve the changes before the bill goes to Republican Gov. Mike DeWine.

DeWine said in 2023 that he did not expect any further changes to election law during his term. A spokesperson for DeWine did not respond to a request for comment.

Ohio is one of 16 states that will count votes after Election Day, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Local officials can accept ballots that arrive up to four days after the election if they are postmarked the day before the election.

The state Senate bill would require absentee ballots to arrive by the end of polls, with the exception of votes from military or overseas voters.

“This bill will help protect and improve Ohio’s election process,” said Republican state Rep. Sharon Ray.

Supporters argue it would align Ohio with the priorities of most other states and the Trump administration, which has threatened to sue the state. In September, the U.S. Department of Justice told Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost that the state’s grace period violates federal policy and urged state leaders to change it.

The Justice Department’s letter cited arguments in a Mississippi lawsuit brought by the Republican National Committee that Election Day is a single date. President Trump also pushed for this idea in an executive order he issued earlier this year, but some of it was blocked in federal court.

But the Brennan Center for Justice lawyers who sued the Trump administration said Ohio has not violated any federal law and is not obligated to comply with any executive orders or rulings in the ongoing case.

“Why would we preemptively change state law to make the process work?” asked Rep. Allison Russo, a Columbus-area Democrat who is running for Ohio secretary of state in 2026. “Voter fraud is extremely rare in Ohio. Those are not my words. They are actually the words of the Ohio Secretary of State (Republican Frank LaRose) himself.”

When will the Epstein files be released? What we know.

0

play

After the House and Senate overwhelmingly agreed to pass a bill requiring the Justice Department to release information about convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, questions remain about when the files will be made available to the public.

Of those who voted for the bill, all Democrats and nearly all Republicans chose to pass it in separate votes in the House and Senate on Tuesday, November 18th.

The bill is now in the hands of President Donald Trump, who has previously indicated he would sign it once it reaches his desk. However, even if signed into law, the release of the files could be delayed.

Here’s what you need to know:

When will President Trump sign the Epstein Files bill?

It’s unclear exactly when President Trump will sign the bill.

But in the days leading up to the bill’s vote, the president said he would sign it into law.

“House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide. It’s time to move on from this Democratic hoax perpetrated by radical left-wing lunatics to distract from the Republican Party’s great success,” he wrote on Nov. 16.

Under the Constitution, if a bill passes both houses of Congress, the president has 10 days to sign it or veto it.

When will the Epstein files be released?

If signed into law, the Epstein bill would force the Justice Department to release files related to sex offenders. But when that will happen is unclear.

Under Epstein’s bill, the Justice Department would be able to withhold “documents that could jeopardize an active federal investigation or ongoing prosecution” if such withholding would be limited and temporary.

Days before calling on House Republicans to vote to release the Epstein files, President Trump ordered the Justice Department to launch an investigation into Democrats with ties to Epstein. Therefore, President Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi may choose not to release some documents as part of provisions protecting federal investigations.

Nvidia stock rises more than Wall Street expectations

0

play

The company that epitomizes the artificial intelligence boom announced its third-quarter earnings after the closing bell, and it did not disappoint.

Shares rose in after-hours trading as Nvidia beat expectations, earning $1.30 per share on revenue of $57 billion.

Wall Street had expected four more quarters of growth from Nvidia’s AI chip business. Analysts had expected earnings of $1.25 per share on sales of $54.9 billion. Wall Street was also looking for $61.4 billion for the fourth quarter. Nvidia topped this, with sales projected to be more or less $65 billion.

The better-than-expected report sent the stock up 4% at the time of the announcement. NVIDIA is being closely monitored as stock price fluctuations can have a significant impact on the market. Semiconductor giants account for 8% of the S&P 500 index.

Why Nvidia has so much influence in the market

Nvidia makes chips essential to training and running AI models, and the red-hot market for AI has made Nvidia the most valuable company in the world.

“The old Wall Street adage, ‘One stock doesn’t make a market,’ is inaccurate here,” Neil Azous, portfolio manager of the actively managed Monopoly ETF, which owns Nvidia stock, told Reuters. “NVIDIA has the ability to create a market.”

Why is the market worried about an AI bubble?

However, market turmoil over the possibility of an AI bubble remains lurking.

Generative AI, which investors hope will revolutionize business and the world, has driven record gains in technology stocks this year.

What’s unsettling in the market is that no one knows how long that transformation will take, and the skyrocketing spending on AI and the growing mountain of debt to finance it are shaking market confidence.

Rising concerns about an AI bubble have caused a sharp decline in recent weeks, leaving the index at a standstill. The S&P 500 suffered its longest losing streak since August.

What will happen if the AI bubble bursts?

In an interview with the BBC, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google’s parent company Alphabet, pointed to the “irrational element” in the current wave of AI investment and soaring valuations.

Pichai said that while Google may weather the storm of the AI bubble bursting, “I don’t think any company, including us, will be immune.”

Bubbles are hard to pinpoint, but for the first time in 20 years, more than half of global fund managers surveyed by Bank of America said they were concerned about companies spending too much on investments.

Looking ahead to 2026, almost half say an AI bubble is the biggest “tail risk” in investing, a low-probability but extremely high-impact risk.

“A fundamental part of this AI revolution.”

Nvidia was adversely affected by recent moves by a few large investors, including tech billionaire Peter Thiel’s hedge fund and SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, to sell their shares.

Nvidia shares fell more than 4% this week as cautious investors braced for third-quarter results. The stock rose ahead of Nvidia’s earnings release on Wednesday, November 19th.

But Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives calls Nvidia “a fundamental part of this AI revolution.”

“It all comes down to identifying the demand story for the AI revolution that starts and ends with Nvidia,” he said in a research note.

Chuck Grassley hits 1 million followers on X, lists popular social posts

Senior U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa celebrates reaching 1 million followers on X by looking back at his most memorable posts.

play

“I don’t know what I did,” said Iowa’s senior senator, Chuck Grassley.

In this case, the “what” wasn’t that he devoured all of his beloved Dairy Queen Blizzard treats. Instead, the 92-year-old lawmaker took a walk down digital memory lane on Tuesday, November 18, to celebrate reaching 1 million followers on social media platform X.

The Republican senator joined the platform under the name Twitter in 2007, shortly after it launched in late 2006. Over those 18 years, he has amassed a following with his often unpunctuated posts written in Grassley’s distinctive shorthand.

“Representative government is a two-way street,” Grassley said in a recorded video message. “I’m half of them, and my voters are the other half. I need to know what they’re thinking. I can tell a lot of what they’re thinking by reading their reactions to what I post on Twitter.”

Grassley is the Senate president pro tempore and third in line to succeed the president. He said he was happy to be able to attract the attention of 1 million people.

“I think the next goal is to reach $2 million,” Grassley said.

So, what are the standout tweets over the past 18 years? Here are Grassley’s top three.

“Assume the deer is dead.”

Grassley said people often say their favorite post is “assume the deer is dead.”

He wrote late on Oct. 25, 2012, “Fred and I hit a deer on Highway 136 south of Dyersville. We continued to farm after pulling our fender and getting scraped by a tire. Please assume the deer is dead.”

“I know it sounds a little silly, but it’s because I had an accident and I was fine so I didn’t have to worry about it. So I typed to my staff and my family, ‘I think the deer is dead,'” Grassley said.

Two days later, Grassley continued, “Followers legitimately asked about the condition of the loved one who attacked our Prius, but they did not shine a flashlight on us to identify the creature.”

Find out what you know at Dairy Queen

The post, written by Grassley on November 3, 2014, became a year-long series about eating ice cream.

“Dairy Queen in Windsor Heights is a good place for you,” he posted.

Get your mind out of the groove.

“You guys probably know that I love Dairy Queens, especially Blizzard with Snickers in it. I was at the Dairy Queen in Windsor Heights, and I just wrote on Twitter that I was at the Dairy Queen because, ‘What are you talking about?'” Grassley said with a laugh. “And it got quite a response from people.”

Dead “Pet Pidgin”

Grassley continued to struggle with the problem of dead animals in 2020.

He wrote on September 19, 2020: “When I lost my pet pidgin/It’s dead in the front yard of my Iowa farm. The r identifier was found here. Right leg blue 2020/3089/AU2020/SHE ///Left leg green band has no print information. Sorry for the bad news.”

Grassley explained that he found the dead pigeon in the garden of his farm in New Hartford.

“It had a number on its leg, so I posted it on Twitter to let whoever owned this pigeon know that this pigeon wasn’t coming home,” Grassley said.

President Melania Trump nods to Saudi flag in green dress during prince’s visit

Melania Trump is dressed to impress the Saudi delegation.

The first lady wore an emerald green strapless Elie Saab dress to a black tie dinner hosted by the White House to welcome Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday, November 18th. The night was one of the first official White House dinners with a foreign leader during President Donald Trump’s second term, and drew attention because the prince was previously named by the CIA as the person who played a leading role in the murder of Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi.

The first lady’s attire was an unusual display of public allegiance to her husband’s goal of strengthening ties with the country.

Melania Trump’s presence, unusual for many official White House events, further emphasized the importance of the occasion and the fabric she chose. The deep green of the dress was taken from the Saudi Arabian flag, all in one color, emblazoned with a white sword and an Arabic phrase that translated to “There is no god but God, Muhammad is the messenger of God.”

The first lady has largely taken a backseat during her husband’s second stint in the White House, breaking with tradition and winning a role as the administration’s messenger. Tuesday’s dinner was unusual not only in Melania Trump’s color choice but also in the message from the designer behind her ruched, floor-length dress.

The New York Times reports that the dress is sewn from a leather-like fabric and is by Lebanese designer Saab. Saab’s pieces, which currently sell for $3,350, play a particularly important role in White Housewear, as the brand hosted the largest fashion show in history in the Middle East last year. where? In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The event was one of the most high-profile at Riyadh Fashion Season, a new festival that is part of Bin Salman’s National Vision 2030 plan, according to the Times.

President Trump’s meeting with bin Salman signals a change in US tone Despite heavy criticism over human rights, President Trump invited the Saudi crown prince for a heated meeting filled with promises of military and economic deals.

President Trump ignored the calls of human rights activists and dismissed concerns about bin Salman’s alleged involvement in the killing of Washington Post reporter Khashoggi. “It’s an honor to be your friend and an honor to have you here,” he told the prince in the Oval Office.

Mike Morin says he and Tyler Skaggs hid Angels drug use

play

A former teammate of Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs has testified in a civil wrongful death lawsuit against the team that he, Skaggs and former communications director Eric Kay hid their drug use from the Angels.

Skaggs’ family is suing the Angels for wrongful death, claiming they should have known Kaye was giving them drugs, and seeking at least $118 million in lost profits, pain and suffering compensation and punitive damages against the team.

Mike Morin, who pitched for the Angels from 2014 to 2017, injured his arm during his final season with the team and said Kaye provided him with drugs. The pills will be placed in his locker and Kay will receive the money that Maureen left there.

Mr. Morin said Mr. Kaye gave him “Blue Boys” (a term used to identify 30-milligram blue oxycodone pills), and that he and Mr. Skaggs used the clubhouse bathroom for drug use, crushing the pills and inhaling them with a toilet paper dispenser.

Morin said in his testimony that there were between five and eight transactions with Kaye involving drug payments, adding that he felt Skaggs was responsible for his actions, which is important in protecting the Angels.

“It’s impossible for anyone to understand what it’s like to play at the MLB level,” Morin said. “There are only people in the same room who understand that. It’s an immense high and an immense low. There aren’t many other people who can fully understand what it feels like to dedicate your life to something and fail, and yes, what it takes to get there and stay there.”

Kaye is currently serving a 22-year sentence in federal prison after being found guilty of distribution of a controlled substance resulting in death and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance in the death of Skaggs, who was found dead in a hotel room in Southlake, Texas, on July 1, 2019, just as the Angels were preparing for a four-game series against the Texas Rangers. 0

play

Native phone support in modern cars is a given in 2025. Despite the ease of integrating personal devices with cars, Tesla and its president Elon Musk have long ignored customer requests to add CarPlay to its electric vehicles (EVs). Now, just as GM is starting to remove Apply CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity from its cars, Tesla and Musk seem to think now is the right time to add CarPlay to their lineup. But why has Tesla been so opposed to Apple’s car integration, and how will this play out?

When you see ads for new cars, you’ll often see Apple CarPlay listed as a feature on their infotainment systems. This demand is due to Apple’s dominance in the personal device market, particularly the iPhone series, and customers who want apps and features to be natively available between devices and vehicles. Tesla hasn’t offered this option on its vehicles since the beginning, just offering connectivity via Bluetooth. As a result, owners are denied the use of Apple Maps, Music, and other native apps that provide services and convenience through CarPlay. According to a report by Bloomberg, the situation could change.

Officials within Tesla are quoted as saying that support for Apple CarPlay is in the works. Why does it matter?Tesla wants to sell more, but the lack of CarPlay support is one of the things that’s starting to put more people off from buying. It’s something Tesla desperately needs as sales are starting to slump here in the U.S. While many EV manufacturers saw sales increase before the end of the federal EV tax credit, Tesla’s sales had plummeted before that due to Musk’s brief foray into politics.

But why have Tesla and Musk ignored and fought customer demand for Apple CarPlay so far? It could be due to two issues Musk has had with Apple. His first issue was with the Apple App Store and its policies, and his latest spat involves xAI and Grok. Another issue is that Apple entered the EV race with the Titan concept, but ultimately canceled that project.

Installing CarPlay after the fact on existing Tesla models is not as simple and integrated as incorporating CarPlay’s standard software. The Bloomberg report says the same thing, and no features or functionality from other Tesla vehicles will be utilized. It also works within a window within Tesla’s user interface (UI), but the company plans to connect Apple’s personal devices to CarPlay wirelessly. Although not mentioned in the report, it appears this will come as an over-the-air update.

However, the report also states that Tesla could halt or significantly slow development if no further progress is made, something Tesla is notorious for. So if you’re waiting for CarPlay to come to future Tesla cars, you might be waiting a while yet.

Kamala Harris campaigns to force Tennessee Democratic Party to flip House seat

Early voting is underway in the Dec. 2 special election for Tennessee’s open House seat: Democratic candidate Aftin Behn vs. Republican candidate Matt Van Epps.

play

Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris stopped by Nashville to encourage voters to go to the polls to support Tennessee Congressman Aftin Behn, the Democratic candidate for the vacant seat.

“Thank you for being active. This is about you. This is about your future. This is about your country. This is about your people. And who owns the power?” Democratic 2024 presidential candidate Harris said.

“People!” the crowd shouted.

Early voting is underway in 14 counties for the special election in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District. Voting day is December 2nd. Vane will face Republican candidate Matt Van Epps and three independent candidates for the seat vacated when Republican U.S. Rep. Mark Green resigned in July to take a job in the private sector.

Harris launched a door-knocking campaign organized by the Tennessee Democratic Party and the Davidson County Democratic Party that drew more than 200 people to North Nashville’s Hadley Park Pavilion on the afternoon of Nov. 18.

Her in-person visit could be seen as a response to the teletown hall held by President Donald Trump last week to drum up votes for Van Epps.

“If the president of the United States has to have a hard time choosing a candidate in Tennessee, that should show that the Democratic candidates have momentum and a chance,” said Tennessee Democratic Party Chairwoman Rachel Campbell. “We’re going to bring Democrats to Congress from Tennessee and show the country what happens when you organize in the South.”

Energy on the left continues to build around the special election, with high-profile Democrats joining Behn in hopes of winning votes, including Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas, Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin, and former Democratic National Committee vice-chairman and progressive David Hogg.

Winning seats is a daunting task. Mark Greene was reelected to a fourth term last November by a 22-point margin, and President Donald Trump won most of the district’s counties by either 3-4 or 4-1.

But special elections can be unpredictable, and Democrats hope to capitalize on the strong grassroots movement and high turnout in the last Congressional elections this year.

Van Epps said he is not worried about the outlook in the race, but the team continues to work hard. However, the national Republican Party is making significant moves that are unusual in safe Republican districts.

“This is a seat won by Mr. Trump and will be won by Republicans on December 2nd,” Republican National Committee spokeswoman Delaney Bomer said. “If Democrats want to funnel money to AOC in Tennessee, a candidate who supports tax increases and taxpayer-funded trans surgery, that’s on them.”

Then, on Nov. 18, Ms. Harris gathered a sold-out crowd of more than 2,300 people in Nashville to promote her new book, “107 Days,” chronicling her experiences during her 107-day presidential campaign against Mr. Trump.

The hour-long event, moderated by political commentator Tim Miller, didn’t have the feel of a typical author’s talk. Harris did not read excerpts or delve into the writing process. Instead, the night had the energy of a political rally.

“It’s been a crazy day in Washington,” Miller said. “Can we talk about that for a second?”

“I’m hanging out in Nashville,” Harris replied. “This is a good place these days.”

Harris was last in Tennessee in 2023 following expulsion hearings for three Democratic state senators.

“The Secrets of a Mormon Wife” and When Cheating is OK

0

play

A viral moment on TV is sparking a debate about when it’s okay to end a relationship.

Season 3 of Hulu’s “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” revealed that #MomTok creator Jesse Draper was having an affair with “Vanderpump Villa” star Marciano Brunette. However, the relationship happened while Draper said her marriage to husband Jordan Natikaula was “on hiatus.”

Draper, 33, told Elite Daily on November 14 that she and her husband were back together, but viewers asked on social media: “Does ‘on a break’ mean that Draper’s affair was okay?” Or did she cheat?

One fan said, “Before labeling Jesse as a fraud, you need to know what kind of ‘breakup’ they went through.”

Rest is nothing new. (Many people remember Ross and Rachel’s break on Friends, one of the most divisive TV shows of all time.) But there’s no universal definition of a break, explains Amanda Miller, a sociology professor at the University of Indianapolis. The parameters of a break are left up to the individual, paving the way for confusion and judgment from outsiders.

“It’s very difficult to try to make (rules) when things are already bad,” Miller said.

Is “taking a break” an excuse for cheating?

It’s common for couples to have trouble setting terms because a break isn’t a clarifying step in a relationship.

“There’s a good chance[both partners]think of ‘on vacation’ as two different things,” Miller says. While one partner may say they have no intention of dating anyone else, the other may take the opportunity to pursue another relationship. Either way, she says it’s important to agree to these rules and boundaries to prevent hurt and encourage growth.

“If you’re thinking about taking a break, there’s a good chance you’re already struggling with communication,” Miller says. “Anytime we deviate from the script, that’s when we need to communicate the most. We make the rules as we go along.”

Deborah Kerr, a sociology professor at Boston University, said when people interpret recess time differently, it’s easy to feel cheated.

“If a couple is on a break from each other and doesn’t believe they have the freedom to pursue other interests, that’s cheating,” Kerr said, adding that just because they agree to see other people doesn’t mean they’re uncomfortable with the reality that their partner is dating someone else. “Couples may agree…’Yes, you’re free to see other people,’ but one partner may still be deeply hurt.”

The plot of ‘Mormon Wives’ Season 3 gets even thicker as #MomTok’s friends try their best to help Draper and Ngatikaula get through the situation. But the break puts the couple’s friends in a “tough position,” Miller said. My friend doesn’t know the details of my marriage or love life. Therefore, your understanding of your friend’s arrangements and abilities is limited, and your advice is also limited.

If you’re thinking of taking a break…

Kerr says taking a break can be a good idea for people who have experienced trauma and need a break from it to heal. Or if a happy couple suddenly feels like they’ve reached a plateau.

If you’re considering a vacation, Kerr suggests agreeing on the length of the vacation, rules for when you’re with others, and specific goals while you’re away.

“They just need to be really clear about the terms of the annulment, otherwise the relationship will fall apart.”

Elon Musk returns to the White House after feud with President Trump

0

Elon Musk also attended the White House dinner for the Saudi crown prince, indicating that his bitter feud with President Trump has come to an end.

play

WASHINGTON – He left the White House in a fit of rage six months ago amid an epic feud with Donald Trump punctuated by accusations that the president’s name was included in the private Jeffrey Epstein files.

But Elon Musk returned to office on November 18, much more quietly than when he left office, as the bitter feud between the world’s richest man and the US president cooled down.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Musk was one of about 140 guests at a White House dinner for Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, where President Trump touted Saudi investments and nuclear energy partnerships promised to American companies. This is Musk’s first public appearance in Washington since May, when he resigned as head of the Office of Government Efficiency, which was a critic of President Donald Trump’s administration.

Wearing a bow tie and black tuxedo, Musk fit right in with other wealthy and famous guests, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, Dell CEO Michael Dell, golfer Bryson DeChambeau, soccer player Christian Ronaldo and several members of the Trump family.

It was as if Mr. Musk’s bitter back-and-forth with Mr. Trump nearly six months ago had never happened.

“He’s had a rough time. He’s had bad periods, he’s had some bad moments,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Oct. 27. “It was a stupid moment in his life. Very stupid. I’m sure he would say that. But I love Elon and I think I always will.”

From bromance to rivalry, now friendship is on the mend

At the height of their friendship, Mr. Musk stayed overnight at the White House, rode on Air Force One with Mr. Trump, and stood at the center of Cabinet meetings as the top official at DOGE, which was working to dismantle federal departments and lay off federal workers.

But an all-out war between the two men broke out in early June after Musk left DOGE and worked to defeat President Trump’s signature bill, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

Musk said on his social media platform X that Trump would not have won the 2024 election without the money he poured into his campaign. Musk wrote that President Trump’s tariffs would cause a recession. He has suggested starting a new political party to counter Trump and the Republican Party. And the Trump administration said it withheld files related to Epstein, the disgraced financier and indicted sex trafficker, because they contained Trump’s name.

President Trump responded by threatening to terminate Musk’s company’s government contracts. When the relationship broke down on June 5, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, “Look, Elon and I had a great relationship,” adding, “I don’t know if we’ll ever have that again.”

Relations between the two countries appear to be improving, with Musk expected to participate in a discussion on artificial intelligence and technological advances at the U.S.-Saudi Arabia Investment Forum in Washington, which Trump will also attend. Musk will be joined by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang.

Musk, who has poured more than $300 million into his 2024 campaign to support Trump, last week endorsed Republican Rep. Byron Donald in the Florida gubernatorial race.

Further commemorating his return to the political scene, the New York Times reported that Musk plans to attend a reunion this weekend in Austin, Texas, with dozens of DOGE alumni to reminisce about his efforts to bring the wrecking ball to the federal government.

As for the third party Musk once promised to create, the so-called “American Party,” no formal steps have yet been taken with the Federal Election Commission to launch what would have been an expensive and complex effort.

Ryan Wedding charged with drug and murder charges

0

U.S. law enforcement officials announced Wednesday, Nov. 19, that a former Olympic snowboarder has been charged with murder and money laundering in connection with alleged drug trafficking into the United States.

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that Ryan James Wedding, 44, is wanted by the FBI in connection with a “transnational criminal enterprise,” calling the Canadian national the greatest threat to the United States and “one of the most prolific and violent drug lords in the world.”

Bondi made the joint announcement with FBI Director Kash Patel at the Justice Department’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., after the government indicted Wedding on charges of witness intimidation, murder and money laundering.

Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder, is on the FBI’s 10 most wanted list for what Bondy says is a murderous international drug trafficking operation.

The FBI is offering a $15 million reward for his arrest.

Bondi said Wedding is now Canada’s largest distributor of cocaine, and reportedly also trafficked other illegal drugs, including fentanyl, while collaborating with the Mexico-based Sinaloa cartel.

Bondi said Wedding’s organization imports 60 tons of cocaine from Mexico into the United States each year, generating $1 billion in annual profits.

“He is responsible for a narco-terrorism program that we haven’t seen in a long time,” Patel told reporters. “You can’t escape the law by being a drug dealer.”

Patel added that more than 35 people have been charged so far in connection with the incident.

“The wedding started with a crush on the Olympic slopes and ended with distributing powder cocaine on the streets of U.S. cities and his native Canada,” said Akil Davis, deputy director of the FBI’s Los Angeles field office.

John K. Hurley, Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, called Wedding “one of the most notorious criminals and drug traffickers who continues to evade justice.”

“The Treasury Department will work with the FBI and the Department of Justice to isolate Wedding and his criminal partners from the U.S. financial system and help dismantle the networks on which they depend,” Hawley said in a statement Wednesday. “Our goal is simple: make it harder for these criminals to profit from polluting our communities.”

USA TODAY has reached out to the Canadian embassy.

Ryan Wedding charged with murder and money laundering

Bondi said Wedding is accused of killing a U.S. federal witness who was shot at a restaurant in Medellin, Colombia, before testifying against him.

There is also a $2 million reward for information leading to the person responsible for the witness’s murder.

During the investigation, law enforcement recovered approximately $3.2 million in virtual currency and more than $13 million in physical assets, Bondi said.

“Drugs are killing our children, and our friends, our relatives, and this man are largely responsible for that horror. We cannot stand by and watch,” Bondi said. “The Department of Justice will use every means necessary to catch this monster.”

What crime is snowboarder Ryan Wedding facing?

According to federal officials, Mr. Wedding was charged with:

  • conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine;
  • Conspiracy to export cocaine.
  • Conspiracy to commit murder in connection with a continuing criminal enterprise and drug offenses.
  • Murder in connection with an ongoing criminal enterprise and drug offenses.
  • Conspiracy to tamper with witnesses, victims, or informants.
  • Tampering with witnesses, victims, or informants.
  • Conspiracy to retaliate against witnesses, victims, or informants.
  • Retaliation against witnesses, victims, or informants.
  • Conspiracy to launder financial instruments.

When did Ryan Wedding compete in the Olympics?

Wedding represented Canada at the 2002 Utah Winter Olympics.

He competed in the men’s parallel giant slalom and finished 24th.

Have you seen Ryan Wedding?

Law enforcement described Wedding as a white male, 6 feet 4 inches tall, weighing between 230 and 250 pounds.

Officials said he is known to frequently visit Mexico, speaks English and Spanish and is believed to be hiding there.

Anyone with information on Wedding’s whereabouts is asked to call 1-800-CALLFBI or visit tipsfbi.gov.

Alice Glick dies after 35 seasons on The Simpsons

0

play

Mrs. Glick, we hardly knew you.

In its latest episode, The Simpsons wasted no time in killing off an established character who appeared on the show before many of its modern viewers were even born.

The episode “Sashes to Sashes,” which aired on November 16, begins with organist Alice Glick suddenly collapsing in a church where Pastor Lovejoy is preaching. Everyone in the church gasps and we see Mrs. Glick lying dead on top of the organ.

In the next scene, Principal Skinner leads a meeting “for a dead woman I never met” and explains that Mrs. Glick left her estate to the school to fund a new music program.

“The Simpsons” executive producer Tim Long addressed the plot points in a statement to TVLine, confirming Mrs. Glick’s death. “In one sense, organist Alice will live on forever because of the beautiful music she made. But in another, more important sense, yes, she’s as dead as a doornail,” Long said.

“The Simpsons” is currently in its 37th season, and Mrs. Glick appeared way back in season 2.

The character first appears in the 1991 episode “Three Men and a Comic Book”, where Bart Simpson does chores for her because he needs money to buy a comic book. After a week’s work, Mrs. Glick pays him only 50 cents. The role was originally voiced by Cloris Leachman, but was later taken over by Tress MacNeil.

But “Sash to Sash” isn’t the first time Mrs. Glick has died on “The Simpsons.” In the 2011 season 23 episode “Replaceable You”, she was killed by a robot baby seal, and the episode ended with a shot of her dancing in heaven.

Despite existing in a world with a loose sense of canon and where characters rarely change or age, “The Simpsons” occasionally killed off established characters during its run. Ned Flanders’ wife Maud famously died in a 2000 episode, and a memorable 1995 episode saw Lisa Simpson’s mentor, saxophonist Bleeding Gums Murphy, emotionally dead.

The season 36 finale in May featured a future in which Marge Simpson dies, but executive producer Matt Selman disputed reports that the show had killed her off for good.

“Obviously, all future episodes of ‘The Simpsons’ are speculative fantasies, so everything will be different every time,” Selman told Variety. “Marge will probably never die again. The only place Marge will die is in a future episode that aired six weeks ago.”

Selman also emphasized at the time, “The Simpsons doesn’t even have canon!”

“The Simpsons” returned for Season 37 in September, but the long-running series has already been renewed for Season 40. The second Simpsons feature film is also in production and scheduled for release in July 2027.

Zoox launches free robotaxis service in San Francisco for waiting list users

Amazon AMZN.O’s self-driving unit Zoox said on Tuesday it has started offering free rides to some early users in some areas of San Francisco, in a bid to strengthen its expansion amid increasing competition in the autonomous ride-hailing space.

With Tesla Inc TSLA.O launching a robotaxi service this year and Alphabet Inc GOOGL.O Inc’s Waymo accelerating its expansion, there is a renewed focus on commercializing self-driving cars, even as heavy investment, tough regulations and federal investigations have forced many businesses to shut down.

Zoox is inviting people on its waitlist to try its point-to-point service in San Francisco’s South of Market, Mission District, and Design District neighborhoods, with the goal of refining the experience before scaling up.

The move comes days after Waymo announced it would begin offering robotaxis on highways throughout San Francisco, Los Angeles and Phoenix. Waymo has been on the streets of San Francisco for years and now operates paid services in several other U.S. cities.

Earlier this year, Tesla launched a robotaxi service equipped with safety monitors in Austin, Texas, and driver-hailing services in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Zoox began offering free robotaxis to the public in September on and around the Las Vegas Strip, with purpose-built vehicles resembling toaster ovens on wheels and no manual controls such as steering wheels or pedals.

Jessica Tisch remains NYPD commissioner under Zoran Mandami

0

play

Jessica Tisch will remain the NYPD’s top cop, Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani announced on Wednesday, November 19th.

Mr. Tisch, the department’s 48th Secretary, was appointed Secretary in November 2024 by Mayor Eric Adams.

“As the 48th Commissioner of the New York City Police Department, Commissioner Tisch has led an emphasis on accountability and transparency across the department, rooting out corruption in the NYPD’s upper echelons and achieving historic declines in violent crime,” Mamdani, the 34-year-old current state representative from Queens, said in a statement.

The move comes as Mamdani continues to appoint transition leaders “to usher in a new era for New York City,” his office said.

“Thanks to the men and women of the NYPD, the strategies we deployed this year have resulted in historic declines in crime,” Tisch said in a press release. “I have spoken several times with Mayor-elect Mamdani, and I am ready and honored to serve as his police chief, because he and I share many of New York City’s public safety goals: reducing crime, making our communities safer, rooting out corruption, and giving our police officers the tools, support, and resources they need to do their noble job.”

The newly elected mayor praised Tisch’s accomplishments, including:

  • Since the beginning of the year, homicides across the city have decreased by nearly 20%.
  • Tens of thousands of guns have been removed from the streets.
  • The first 10 months of this year had the “lowest number of shootings and shooting victims in recorded history.”
  • The four safest months for city traffic in the past 15 years (July, August, September and October). This represents a record for underground safety outside of the year of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Who is Jessica Tisch?

Mr. Tisch’s previous City roles include Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health (2022-2024) and Commissioner of the New York City Department of Information Technology and Communications (2019-2022).

“I look forward to working with Commissioner Jessica Tisch to bring true public safety to New York City. I have admired her work in cracking down on corruption in the police ranks, curbing crime in New York City, and standing up for New Yorkers in the face of authoritarianism,” Mamdani said.

Tish continues to do “great work”

The Adams administration, which had a high turnover of police chiefs, issued a statement congratulating Tisch after the announcement.

“Thanks to the policies we introduced nearly four years ago and the tireless efforts of the brave men and women of the NYPD, crime across the city has declined for eight consecutive quarters and we have removed more than 24,000 illegal guns from our streets,” Adams said.

Adams called Tisch a “star” of the Sanitation Department and praised her work at the NYPD.

“By choosing to retain her as Police Chief, Mayor-elect Mamdani is recognizing that our commitment to public safety is correct and will continue to do so in the future. We all want a safer city, and keeping Chief Tisch in place and supporting our officers every day with the policies we put in place is exactly how we will make that happen.”

In a post on X on Wednesday, Nov. 19, New York Governor Kathy Hochul called Tisch a “steadfast partner in keeping crime at historic lows and improving public safety across the city.”

“I am pleased that she will continue her work under Mayor-elect @ZohranKMamdani,” the governor wrote.
