Nearly 10 years after divorcing his ex-wife, Michael David McKee was charged with murdering his ex-wife and her husband of nearly five years. Spencer and Monique Tepe were shot and killed on December 30th.

Less than two years after he said “I do” on his wedding day, Michael David McKee’s marriage was over.

The accomplished vascular surgeon, who most recently lived in Chicago, married Monique Sabatulski in his native Ohio on August 22, 2015, according to court records reviewed by USA TODAY. They divorced in May 2017.

McKee is currently facing murder charges in the shooting death of Michelle’s second husband of nearly five years.

In a case that made national headlines for its heartbreaking details, Spencer Tepe and Monique Tepe (formerly of Sabaturski) were found shot to death in their home in Columbus, Ohio, on December 30th. The killing occurred just five days after Christmas and occurred as young children were sleeping nearby.

When Columbus police announced that Tepesi and others had been killed, they initially did not provide details about the perpetrator or motive, sparking fear throughout the community.

They now say they believe McKee is responsible. McKee’s public defender, Carey Poirier, said in an Illinois courtroom on Monday, Jan. 12, that he would maintain his innocence and remain silent, the USA TODAY Network’s Rockford Register-Star reported.

Here’s what USA TODAY did to find out who McKee is and what evidence police say they have against him.

What do we know about Michael David McKee?

McKee, a vascular surgeon, most recently lived in Chicago and worked at nearby Rockford Medical Center, but he excelled in both sports and academics in his hometown of Zanesville, a charming small city just east of Columbus.

McKee started making headlines in local papers when he was a freshman in 1994, according to an article archived in the Zanesville Times-Recorder, part of the USA TODAY Network since 2019.

The boy received an honorable mention award from then-Secretary of State Bob Taft in a children’s poster contest. According to the paper, McKee’s entry was a painting of a smiling bell with the slogan, “Let freedom ring… Vote.” His photo was published alongside the blurb of the honor.

When McKee was 13 years old, he was featured in the newspaper again after his photo was recognized for excellence at State Science Day at Ohio Wesleyan University. And the following year, when he won the City Spelling Bee, he appeared on the cover with the word “siege.” “I was a little nervous until the end,” McKee told the paper.

McKee’s accomplishments continued at Zanesville Bishop Rosecrans High School, where he ranked fifth in his class as a senior, was a National Distinguished Scholar, Biology Student of the Year, and a member of the National Honor Society, according to a 2005 Times Recorder article with McKee’s photo. McKee also placed in the top 25 in the American History contest at Ohio University and spent three years on the varsity football team.

McKee attended The Ohio State University, where he attended medical school and excelled. Records show he graduated from Ohio State in 2014 at age 28 and received his medical license.

McKee married Monique Sabatulski the following year. After the couple’s divorce was finalized in 2017, McKee began traveling to other states, according to medical board records obtained by USA TODAY.

Records show McKee received his medical license in Virginia in 2017 and completed his residency at Virginia Tech’s Carilion Clinic. Records show he received his license to practice in both California and Maryland in 2022, and in Nevada in 2023. In 2024, he received his license to practice in his latest home of Illinois.

Mackie and Monique had no children.

What happened to Spencer and Monique Tepe?

At 9:03 a.m. on Dec. 30, Columbus police received a call from a co-worker of Spencer Tepe, who was concerned that Tepe was not at work and the office could not reach him or his wife, according to a recording obtained through a public records request by the Columbus Dispatch, part of the USA TODAY Network.

“He’s always punctual and will let us know if there’s a problem,” a coworker said in a phone call to police. “I don’t know what else to say. We’re very concerned. This is very outrageous behavior.”

At 9:22 a.m., an officer reported there was no answer to the door and apparently left, records show. Columbus police later said officers went to the wrong home.

At 9:57 a.m., a man called police and said he was at Tepesi’s home and could hear children’s voices inside. At 10:05 a.m., a friend called police from her home and reported seeing Spencer’s body lying next to her bed inside.

When police returned to the home, they found both Tepes dead inside. The children, ages 1 and 4, were not physically injured.

The couple’s families were devastated.

“These were extraordinary people who lived lives filled with love, joy and deep connection to others,” the family said in a statement to USA TODAY. “We are heartbroken beyond words.”

They described Spencer, 37, as a “devoted and proud father, loving partner and friend to everyone he met,” and Monique, 39, as a “loving, patient and joyful mother whose warmth defined her.”

What led to Michael David McKee’s arrest?

Police arrested Michael David McKee on suspicion of murder on Saturday, January 10, 11 days after the killing.

Police identified McKee as the suspect through neighborhood video surveillance, according to a probable cause statement.

They said McKee was hooked up to a vehicle that arrived shortly before the murder and left shortly after. They tracked the vehicle to Rockford, where McKee works, the documents said.

On Monday, January 12, McKee appeared in Winnebago County Court, Illinois, for a scheduled extradition hearing to Ohio. Court officials said he should be transferred this week, the Register Star reported.

He is charged in Franklin County Municipal Court with two counts of premeditated aggravated murder. In Ohio, an aggravated murder conviction carries a sentence of life in prison without parole or even the death penalty, while a simple murder charge carries a sentence of 15 years to life in prison, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

McKee’s family and colleagues were either unavailable for comment or declined to comment to USA TODAY on Monday.

What do Spencer and Monique’s families say about the arrests?

In a statement to USA TODAY, Tepesi’s family said Mackey’s arrest “represents an important step toward justice for Monique and Spencer.”

“While nothing can undo the devastating loss of two lives taken far too soon, we would like to thank the Columbus Police Department and its investigators who were instrumental in apprehending those involved, and the law enforcement agencies who worked tirelessly to assist those involved,” they said. “As the case progresses, we believe the justice system will hold those responsible fully accountable.”

They added, “Monique and Spencer remain at the center of our hearts and we will carry on their love and surround and protect the two children they leave behind.”

“We continue to honor their lives and the light they brought to this world,” they said.

Intercepted Aaron Rodgers’ last pass against the Texans and returned it for a TD.

Aaron Rodgers has thrown over 500 touchdown passes in his 21-year NFL career.

On January 12, the future Hall of Fame QB’s last pass against the Houston Texans ended in a touchdown for the opposing team.

Texans defensive back Karen Bullock returned Rodgers’ last pass for a pick-six in a wild-card matchup at Pittsburgh, giving Houston an eventual 30-6 victory.

Rodgers did not return for the Steelers’ final drive, raising questions about whether this was the last pass of his storied career.

That question, along with many others regarding the Steelers’ future, will be answered during the offseason, but Rodgers’ final game of the 2025 season was a disappointment by any standards. In the Steelers’ most recent playoff loss under Mike Tomlin, Rodgers completed 17 of 33 passes for 146 yards, one interception, and no touchdowns.

Rodgers was sacked four times, fumbled twice and had a passer rating of 50.8.

The image of Rodgers walking off the field in defeat is a far cry from his best days with the Green Bay Packers. Will this be the last time fans see him on an NFL field? Only time will tell.

Practical Garage and Vehicle Flood Prevention Tips

0

play

If you have 99 problems and one of them is a flood, consider eliminating the remaining 98 problems and focusing on the task at hand.

The number of problems can increase exponentially when flooding threatens to turn your garage into a submerged mausoleum, potentially trapping your prized classic car or reliable daily driver inside.

Fortunately, there are many ways to protect both your car and your garage from both inconvenient leaks and catastrophes that occur on a regular basis. Of course, our advice may not extend to the latter, but if the water level is low enough that your entire home is not a total loss, we have precautions to cover you and some advice on what to do if you are not prepared. Some methods cost nothing, while others cost thousands of dollars, but weigh the cost of prevention against what you’re protecting internally.

Let’s dive in — figuratively, we hope.

Ah, Captain, there’s high ground ahead!

The simplest solutions are often the ones right in front of us. If you’re parked in a low spot where water may collect, look to the horizon for anything upstream. If your driveway has sunk into the ground over the years, you may just need to move it to its edge. If that’s not possible, your neighbor may have a better layout. You can also have someone drive you to a public parking lot, or if you live at the bottom of a hill, park towards the top. Avoid unpaved roads wherever you go. After rain, the grass and soil become soft and your car can get stuck, or worse, slip downhill.

But what happens to garage-kept cars that never see the rain in the first place? And what do you do when what you’re protecting can’t be moved?

install a garage barrier

While you may not be able to prevent flooding from occurring, you can prevent it from entering your garage. An obvious way for water to enter is through the garage door. For mild flooding or regular leaks during heavy rain, you can easily install a threshold seal on your garage floor to strengthen the seal at the bottom of your door. To prevent water from getting into your door in the first place, install barrier fabric or other absorbent products further up your driveway, on the sidewalk, or in front of additional side doors to prevent water from getting in.

hardcore barrier

At what point do inconvenient water problems occur? genuine Flood problem? Once the water begins to exceed 2 to 3 inches, you may need more than an aftermarket seal or absorbent material. This is a temporary dam that can be installed when flooding is expected. Customizable lengths and heights allow for versatility in protection and location. Barriers for regular side-opening doors can also be installed at other entrances. These barriers require some warning and time to install, so if you’re hit by a flash flood, self-rising quick dams can be used instead, making them practical for surrounding detached garages or even entire homes. This is a product you’ll want to have on hand if you live in a designated flood or hurricane area.

All of these barriers range from hundreds to thousands of dollars, but the cost of potential damage can be much higher.

Garage waterproofing work

What if it’s water? do Will it end up in your garage? Just to be sure, don’t put anything on the floor that shouldn’t get wet. Instead, use shelving or other storage options to keep valuables at least 12 inches off the ground. Barrier fabric can be placed around objects that cannot be stored in elevated locations, or around cars, bikes, or other items that can be submerged in water.

Protecting your belongings is as simple as rearranging your garage, but what does it mean for water to get into the garage itself?

water resistant material

What is the garage made of? The inside is most often a concrete floor and drywall. Concrete is fine, but drywall doesn’t like water. Even green boards are only moisture resistant and cannot be exposed to water for long periods of time. You can install waterproofing material, such as PVC panels, over it without tearing out the entire wall. Look for interlocking panels that have a sealant. That way, you can avoid major drywall repairs and future mold problems.

raise the height of the outlet

Are you shocked at how easily water can get in and ruin your garage? If your electrical outlet gets wet, you’re at risk of electric shock. According to the 2023 National Electrical Code Amendments, ground-fault circuit interrupter outlets (GFCIs) are required in residential areas where water may be present, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and garages. It can help you avoid danger if you are submerged in water, but why do you do it in the first place?

There is no standard height for a residential garage, but consider potential flooding risk and think from there. Moving to 24 inches or more is often recommended, with the bonus of easier access.

divert water away from the garage

If you really want to improve your waterproofing, try keeping water out of your garage first. If you’re at the mercy of hills or other unforgiving landscape features, there are plenty of simple measures you can take, as well as more extreme ones, to ensure your garage doesn’t become the path of least resistance.

Start simple and get your gutters and downspouts in order. Pro tip: If your gutters have established a habitat of their own, it’s time to clean them out. Once your downspouts are clean, make sure they are flowing smoothly and the entire system is working properly. When it rains, look for standing water near your house or garage and see if it ends up in poorly targeted gutters. Otherwise, you will have to deal with grading issues. This may be as simple as building up flower beds and raising them to higher ground, or it may involve calling in a crew to reorganize the entire garden.

Diverts more water from the garage

Another solution is to install a trench drainage system. Such a system can be used to plot a route through a backyard as a possible alternative to complete resurfacing, provided a water source can be brought into the backyard. If your garage door tends to collect water, you can install a trench drain in front of it, but it will require concrete work to get water in there. Installing a trench drain along the side of your driveway can help divert water away from your garage door in the first place.

We’ve covered a lot of ways to turn off water during floods, but it’s most cost-effective to have the foresight to properly channel the water in the first place to eliminate recurring problems with regular heavy rains. Invest in a solution before you end up replacing everything.

regular car maintenance

Floods aren’t just a problem at home; it can cause a lot of grief if your car stalls due to flooded roads. The obvious advice here is to slow down before pushing through a puddle. Observe the cars in front of you to determine the depth and back up to avoid waves caused by cars. Always approach any body of water with caution. If you’re not sure you can make it, a storm is not the time to judge.

But when you encounter water, you’ll want to know if your car can withstand water. Keeping up with simple maintenance like oil, coolant, and transmission fluid changes will keep your gaskets in good condition, keeping water out and allowing proper fluid flow. Older cars with cracked or brittle door, liftgate, hood, or trunk seals may benefit from replacing them. If it is in good condition, applying a seal protectant or repair product as part of your regular cleaning schedule will keep it flexible and functioning properly.

What does insurance cover?

It’s finally time to tackle the car expense that everyone is concerned about: insurance. We spoke with a local insurance agent who represents some of the biggest insurance companies in the U.S. (as an aside, they’re a great way to shop around for the lowest rates) to learn more about how to know if you need flood insurance. The short answer is almost always yes. But if water comes up from the ground, whether it’s a backup in your basement due to a clogged sewage drain or excess standing water from a flood, your homeowner’s insurance will usually cover it. Flood insurance is required if water directly enters your home due to a fall from the sky.

Flood insurance is usually required in high water table areas and hurricane zones, but check with your insurance company to see if you will be covered for any disasters you may encounter. If you have flooding issues due to landscaping or other things that can be addressed, estimate the cost of fixing them or purchasing flood insurance. You may still want to do both.

Will a submerged car recover on its own?

No, let’s move on.

Well, it requires a little more explanation than that. But please know, A flooded car is not a problem that can be magically solved. If you don’t know how to fix it yourself, try towing it somewhere, preferably in a tow truck, to get it repaired. And it withered.

You can tell if your car is wet if it’s wet. The interior is probably the worst place to repair, as drying the interior can be a huge pain depending on the extent of the problem. Get your hair dryer ready! (Be careful with heat settings.) A damp vacuum or upholstery cleaner will also help remove water. If the weather is nice, you can leave the windows open to speed up evaporation. In your garage, if you have the space, try leaving the door open and running the fan.

The submerged car still hasn’t been repaired.

A more serious problem, but easier to fix if addressed right away, is water leaking from inside the machine bit. If your engine oil is foamy like a cappuccino, you didn’t just arrive at the Starbucks drive-thru, it’s contaminated with water. Please change that oil. The water in the transmission fluid looks like a strawberry milkshake. This situation may sound cute, but water and oil don’t mix. Water and oil separate when the car is sitting, and water is not a suitable lubricant. In severe cases, don’t forget components such as differentials and axles.

Electrical gremlins can be difficult to sort and may be solved by drying the components. However, if you are not familiar with electrical wizardry, just put the hair where it should be and take it to the store.

Will water damage my car quickly?

Water can damage your car before you’re done thinking about it. In the worst case scenario, you could face a hydrolock, where the cylinders fill up with water and the engine stalls. Fluids don’t compress, so even if you’re lucky enough to have your engine stall without breaking anything, don’t try to restart it without checking it first. I’ve seen vanes on the compressor side of turbochargers become rough due to water.

However, all is not lost and even a hydrolocked engine can be repaired. You may need to pull out the head or other components to properly remove the water, but it’s usually cheaper than replacing it completely. In both cases, it is important to remove the water completely. Impurities can cause rust in bearings, cylinders, etc. Cooling systems are also susceptible, as they require clean water and coolant to prevent corrosion.

Spending money upfront on waterproofing and protecting your car may seem like a lot of money, but it can end up being a much more expensive endeavor.

Suspect targeted fire at historic Mississippi synagogue, FBI says

0

play

JACKSON, Mississippi – A suspect in an alleged arson attack at a historic synagogue told federal authorities that he started the fire because of “the building’s Jewish ties,” according to a federal affidavit filed on January 12.

The affidavit identifies the suspect in the fire at Congregation Beth Israel synagogue as Stephen Spencer Pittman, 19. The criminal complaint states that the suspect is charged with arson of property used for interstate commerce. A Jan. 12 news release from Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said further charges are possible pending the final outcome of the investigation.

In an interview with law enforcement on the day of the fire, Pittman referred to the synagogue as “Satan’s synagogue” and told his father that he “finally got it,” according to the affidavit.

The fire broke out at around 3 a.m. on January 10 at the historic synagogue. Security camera footage later released by the synagogue showed a masked and hooded person, identified as Pittman, using a gas canister to pour liquid onto the floor and couches in the building’s lobby.

The Jackson Fire Department responded and was able to extinguish and extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported. Reports said administrative offices and a library were charred in the fire, and several large scrolls of the Torah, the Jewish holy book, were destroyed or damaged.

USA TODAY reached out to the attorney listed as representing Pittman for comment on Jan. 12.

Father begs son to stop after being accused of arson

Authorities allege in an affidavit that Pittman had traveled from his home in Madison County, about 30 miles north of Jackson, and stopped at Mack’s Gas on Highway 51 in Ridgeland to purchase gas for the fire. The affidavit states he removed his license plate at a gas station before heading to the synagogue.

After arriving, Pittman allegedly texted his father (identified only by his initials in court records) a photo of the back of the Beth Israel Building. A message was left on his cell phone that read, “‘There’s a furnace in the back,'” the affidavit states. “By the way, my plates are off,” “I’m wearing a hoodie,” and “They have the best cameras.”

The father begged his son to come home, but Pittman said, “I was going to hit a home run, so I said, ‘I’ve done my research,'” according to the affidavit. Mr. Pittman played baseball in high school and junior college.

When Pittman arrived at the synagogue, he used an ax to break a window in the building, poured gas into the building and used a torch lighter to start a fire, according to the affidavit.

father alerts authorities

The affidavit states that Pittman’s father observed burns on his son’s ankles, hands and face late on Jan. 10. The father later confronted his son about what happened that morning, and Pittman allegedly confessed to the crime.

“Pittman laughed and told his father what he had done and that he had finally gotten it,” the affidavit states.

The father then contacted the FBI and said his son had confessed to setting the building on fire, according to the affidavit.

Pittman’s cell phone data and burn marks on Pittman’s body corroborated that information, the affidavit said. The FBI later recovered a burnt-out cell phone believed to belong to Pittman, as well as a hand torch that was found and handed over to authorities by a believer.

Pittman suffered non-life-threatening burns and self-admitted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he was later taken into custody, Reeves’ statement said.

Who is Stephen Spencer Pittman?

Pittman was a former student and baseball player at St. Joseph Catholic School in Madison and a baseball player at Coahoma Community College.

The Catholic Diocese of Jackson confirmed that Pittman was present on the Clarion Ledger, part of the USA TODAY Network, and said Pittman’s actions were “senseless, reprehensible and totally inconsistent with the values taught by the Catholic Church and espoused in Catholic schools.”

Pittman announced his commitment to play baseball at Coahoma Community College in 2023. Coahoma College is a historically black public community college, but many of its baseball players are white. Pittman’s college baseball roster no longer has a bio page and a search results in a 404 error. Although he is not listed as having recorded any statistics, his Instagram page shows photos of him playing for the school.

Fire breaks out at historic synagogue

Beth Israel is Jackson’s oldest synagogue, dating back to before the Civil War. Nearly 60 years ago, in November 1967, the Ku Klux Klan bombed both the temple’s offices and former Rabbi Perry Nussbaum’s home. There were no fatalities in this incident.

“The state of Mississippi stands by the members of Congregation Beth Israel,” Reeves said in a news release. “This heinous act will never be tolerated, and the perpetrators must accept the gravity of their actions.”

How Shopify is bringing agent AI to enterprise commerce

0

Shopify uses agent AI to power its core enterprise commerce workflows and automate operations while expanding sales channels.

Generative AI adoption in commerce is primarily focused on customer support chatbots and basic content generation. Shopify’s Winter ’26 Edition, titled Renaissance, propels this technology into agent commerce, where AI systems actively manage workflows, configure infrastructure, and distribute products to third-party ecosystems.

Modernize commerce with agent AI storefronts

The most notable architectural adjustment is the introduction of “Agentic Storefronts.” Traditionally, sellers drove traffic to their own domains to ensure conversions. Shopify’s new model lets you display products directly within AI-driven conversations on platforms like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot.

For CDOs, this fragmentation of the customer journey requires a change in channel strategy. Rather than complex integration with each external platform, products configured within management are immediately discoverable by these agents. Transactions occur within conversations and attribute data is returned to the central administrator. This feature addresses the risk of brands becoming invisible as search behavior shifts towards LLM.

“AI is now essential to modern commerce,” says Deann Evans, Managing Director of EMEA at Shopify.

Mr Evans pointed to internal data that suggests 93 per cent of UK retailers are investing in AI tools to aid product discovery, which is in line with 66 per cent of consumers who expect to use AI for at least part of their holiday shopping.

Operational Intelligence and “Sidekick” Updates

While decentralized commerce addresses revenue generation, updates to Sidekick (Shopify’s AI assistant) target operational spend and efficiency. The tool has evolved from a reactive AI chatbot to a proactive agent system that can perform complex administrative tasks for commerce.

Sidekick Pulse now displays personalized tasks based on real-time data, such as suggesting product bundles when certain cart behaviors are detected or flagging compliance gaps such as missing return policies.

For technical teams, the reduction in low-level ticket volume is a key benefit. Sidekick can now generate management applications from natural language prompts, allowing non-technical staff to build custom tools without developer intervention. Additionally, create “workflow” automations from descriptions, avoiding the need for deep knowledge of Shopify-specific logic syntax.

To support standardization across large teams, prompts can now be saved and shared as “skills”. This ensures that validated and safe prompt structures are reused instead of ad hoc queries.

A persistent challenge for enterprise retailers is testing changes without disrupting live revenue streams. Shopify introduced SimGym (currently in research preview) and Rollouts to address this.

SimGym leverages AI shopper agents with human-like profiles to simulate traffic and purchasing behavior. This allows merchants to model how in-store changes impact conversion rates using synthetic data from billions of annual purchases, rather than waiting for live A/B test results.

To complement this, Rollouts offers native experimentation capabilities within the admin, enabling controlled, scheduled changes and data-driven decision-making about buyer behavior. For executives, this reduces the risk profile of platform updates and marketing experiments.

Infrastructure and developer speed

This update covers agent AI as well as physical commerce infrastructure and developer tools. The new “POS Hub” provides a wired connectivity solution for retail hardware and is designed to improve resiliency in high-volume brick-and-mortar environments. It acts as a dedicated operating unit and integrates card readers and scanners via a stable connection. This is essential to maintain throughput during peak trading times.

On the software side, AI-native developer platforms aim to reduce build times. AI agents can now scaffold apps, perform GraphQL operations, and generate validated code. It’s powered by the Shopify Catalog, which lets agents search hundreds of millions of products to build richer applications.

“We chose the Renaissance theme for this edition because it symbolizes progress, momentum, courage, and new beginnings…Many of these features weren’t possible a year ago, and they redefine how we deliver on our mission to make commerce better for everyone,” commented Vanessa Lee, VP of Leading Products at Shopify.

For company leaders, the barrier to creating custom in-house tools has been lowered. Storefronts are no longer static destinations either. This is a distributed set of data points that can be accessed by third-party AI agents. Preparing product data for the future of commerce with agent-based AI has become a prerequisite for maintaining competitive visibility.

Texans fire Aaron Rodgers, Steelers win wild-card playoffs

0

play

PITTSBURGH – With wired headphones in his ears and the hood of his gray sweatshirt rolled up – not long after he ended his press conference with a bombshell – one of the greatest men to ever step on a football field was headed for the exits of Acresure Stadium after the Pittsburgh Steelers lost 30-6 to the Houston Texans in the final game of the NFL Wild Card Round.

There was a question all offseason whether this was the last time Aaron Rodgers left a locker room as an NFL player. For the second year in a row, Rodgers will take time to ponder his next steps. He could retire after 21 NFL seasons, four MVP awards, one Super Bowl MVP, and more lines than necessary to match a Hall of Fame resume. He could potentially sign with another expected candidate. Going back for another round with the Steelers and head coach Mike Tomlin is certainly on the table.

In Monday’s postgame press conference, Rodgers lamented how the defense gave the Steelers’ offense so many chances, forcing three turnovers, that it wasn’t very effective. He also cautioned against making emotional decisions.

“It’s disappointing. Of course, it’s been a really fun year. There’s been a lot of adversity, but it’s been a lot of fun.”

Rodgers said the 2025 season was a great year in his life “overall.” he got married They advanced to the postseason for the first time since the 2021 season.

“It’s a shame to be sitting here after the season is over because it’s part of what’s really good about coming here and being a part of this team.”

When asked directly if he wanted to continue playing in Pittsburgh if he decided he wanted to play another season in the NFL, Rodgers said, “I’m not going to talk about that.”

Mr. Rogers said he would “run away,” or come to a nearby dark hideout, and have a “proper conversation” before making any grand plans.

“I’ve answered this before,” Rogers said. “Every game could be my last.”

Backup Mason Rudolph replaced Rodgers as the Steelers’ last offensive line, but the Texans defense scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter in a blowout loss. Mr. Rogers was fired four times. Perhaps Rodgers’ last pass in the NFL was a 50-yard return for a pick-six by Karen Brock. Rodgers completed 17 of 33 passes for 146 yards and a pick, but had one lost fumble, which Sheldon Rankins returned for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, breaking the dam on the Steelers’ season.

Does the loss to the Texans mean the end of Tomlin’s time in Pittsburgh?

Tomlin, the Steelers coach, appears to be at a crossroads in his career.

“As I sit here tonight, I’m not even thinking that way,” Tomlin said from the podium. “I’m thinking more about what happened in this stadium and certainly what we did and didn’t do. As I sit here tonight, I’m not thinking in the big picture.”

Tomlin, 53, won a Super Bowl in his second year with the Steelers and returned to the big game two years later. He has now lost seven straight in the playoffs and has a postseason record of 8-12. The last time they won was after the 2016 season.

“I don’t necessarily compare it to other moments,” Tomlin said. “It’s right now, and it’s certainly difficult. But that’s what we sign up for. That’s the life we live.”

Tomlin said he remains optimistic in terms of building a roster that can win in both the regular season and playoffs.

“Words are useless when you can’t get the job done. It’s a question of what you do or don’t do…In our business, people talk too much,” Tomlin said. “It’s either you do it or you don’t.”

Steelers defensive end Cam Heyward said the outside noise doesn’t affect him because no one outside the Steelers building can understand the effort Tomlin puts into the team and the entire operation.

“There are limits to what a coach can do,” he says. “The players have to play better. In the important moments, the players have to step up.”

Once again, the conference class existed at a level above what the Steelers could reach. Even with a future Hall of Famer at quarterback, John Harbaugh spent 18 years with the rival Baltimore Ravens before being fired, so the Steelers had until the final game of the regular season to wrap up the division with the opponent who fired their head coach. Harbaugh was the only coach to match Tomlin’s longevity of 19 seasons at the same location. He has never lost, including going 10-7 this year.

Will Year 20 bring even more of the same standards if Tomlin has a 20th year in Pittsburgh? Or can we move on to the next step? The fans at Acresure Stadium who didn’t wait for the final horn, at least half of the black-and-yellow-clad crowd, may not want to answer that question.

In fact, the conspicuous “Shoot Tomlin!” chant permeated the crisp air as the final minutes ticked away. The boos were louder.

The classic “Mike Tomlin/Steelers voodoo black magic” joke on Twitter just doesn’t hold up the same way anymore, especially when the result is a first-round loss at best.

C.J. Stroud and the Texans consistently fumbled the football and tried to hand the game over, but neither Steelers team was able to capitalize. Pittsburgh’s defense is the most expensive in football. The stats and tape mean nothing all season long.

Aaron Rodgers offseason speculation begins

Rodgers himself fell to 11-11 as a starter in the postseason. He has said throughout the year that he enjoyed his time with Tomlin and the Steelers. NFL media reported that the team is open to bringing him back next season. One season after tearing his ACL on the fourth play of the season in his “Gang Green” debut, he looks rejuvenated compared to the future Hall of Famer who played for the New York Jets last season.

I still have some strength in my arms. In the third quarter, he easily beat Calvin Austin III on a go route, and the ball easily traveled about 60 yards. Or they could thread Adam Thielen up the middle to start a drive later in the quarter.

But tailoring the offense to Rodgers’ wants and needs has reached a point of diminishing returns. Early in the game, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith worked Rodgers’ pocket, and Rodgers rolled to his left, flipped his hips, and found a wide-open DK Metcalf on an intermediate crossing route for a 25-yard gain. Rodgers went back to Rodgers on the next play and drew a defensive pass interference call.

The Steelers have done their best to introduce components that help them distribute the ball quickly. Kenneth Gainwell earned Rodgers’ trust with his ability to consistently make the first tackler miss. Metcalf is capable of YAC when available. Tomlin and the front office appeased Rodgers by signing veterans Adam Thielen and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Tomlin’s patience last offseason led to him being acquired by Rodgers under speculation that the Steelers were simply keeping talented quarterback play away from a contender.

Rodgers said the Steelers have the pieces in place to remain in playoff contention. Metcalf is under contract for the next few seasons. Rodgers advised the team needs to keep Gainwell in the building.

He said coming together as a team during training camp in Latrobe, Pa., is one of the many enjoyable moments of the 2025 season that Rodgers will return to with memories.

“We faced a lot of adversity, but there are a lot of special moments to look back on,” Rodgers said. “I’m just disappointed right now. But I’m grateful to be able to wear the colors and come out of the tunnel and be a part of this organization.”

This is due to the frustration of having to answer the same questions all the time. did Will he find out about Tomlin this year? – Rodgers said the same thing, let out a curse word, and got up from his seat in front of the microphone to end the press conference.

Rodgers then put on his hood and put on his headphones as he walked toward the exit, stopping to talk with right guard Mason McCormick and several Texans players outside the visitors’ locker room, then departing.

Where can you find a question with an answer as complex as this one?

Jack in the Box “Jibbis” has become a hot topic. Is it a new love bus?

play

Love Bus has found a new rival in Jack in the Box’s “Jibis.”

Launched as part of the fast-food chain’s year-long celebrations to mark its 75th anniversary, the limited edition collectible bag charms have been a hit online, with consumers unable to resist comparing Zibis to Love Bath, the monster-like plush charms that have taken the world by storm.

“I hate love baths, but the little jack in the box called Jibiz is kinda cute…I bought the blue one,” Leah Roberts said in a Jan. 5 post on X.

Technically, Zibibis has been available with the purchase of a Chicken Supreme Munchie Meal since early January, but discussions about Jack in the Box-themed bag charms are only just beginning.

“Gibi is made to be cut, collected and shown off, because one charm is never enough,” Jacques said in a Dec. 18 news release. “Whether you score one or chase them all, these mini-icons are available for a limited time only.”

Jack in the Box did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment.

Here’s what you need to know about Jack’s Jibbis, including how to get them.

People love Jack’s “Jibis”

Gibi hasn’t caused quite as much of a fuss as the Love Bus yet, but the miniature “Jack” has certainly left an impression.

“TikTok keeps showing me videos of people opening boxes of Gibi,” one user shared in a Jan. 6 X post. “I think I’m close to flying to America to get it.”

According to Jack in the Box, customers can collect up to four Jivi, including Spicy, Saucy, Icy, and “Ultra Rare” Boss, one for each Chicken Supreme Munchie Meal order.

While most consumers were content to simply share on social media which Givi they got, others noted how much they liked the collectibles better than their Labbu counterparts.

Aidna Lavig wrote: “I’ve never jumped on the Lovevu train but I’m about to get my hands on some Jibi from Jack in the Box.”

“Love Bath is 2025…this year is all about #JackInTheBox Jibbi!” Amy Minshall shared on January 11th with the hashtags #CollectThemAll and #Icy.

Jack in the Box turns 75!

From the return of Chicken Supreme to Jack’s “Jibis,” at least so far, the 75th anniversary event is “packed with nostalgic menus, special collectibles, covetable deals, and surprises designed to thank the fans who’ve been riding Jack since 1951.”

Officially discontinued in 2004, Chicken Supreme is back as part of three new meal menus: Chicken Supreme Combo, Double Chicken Supreme Combo, and Double Chicken Supreme Munchie Meal.

To continue the festivities, the chain is rolling out a “75 Days of Trivia” feature on the Jack in the Box app throughout the year, giving fans the chance to claim a “same-day offer” every time they answer an in-app question correctly.

“After 75 years, Jack in the Box is still breaking the rules and the party has just begun,” the San Diego-based company said in a statement.

President Trump’s prosecutor Jack Smith to testify publicly before House committee

0

play

Jack Smith, the former U.S. Department of Justice special counsel who brought two now-dropped criminal cases against President Donald Trump, will testify publicly before the House Judiciary Committee on January 22, the Republican majority announced on January 12.

In closed-door testimony before the committee in December, Smith defended the investigation into Trump and said the basis for the charges was “entirely about President Trump and his actions.”

“If you asked me today if I would prosecute a former president based on the same facts, I would do so regardless of whether the president was a Republican or a Democrat,” Smith said in a portion of his opening statement obtained by USA TODAY at the time.

Smith and his team secured an indictment in 2023 accusing Trump of illegally preserving classified documents after his first term in office and plotting to overturn his 2020 election loss. Smith dropped both cases after Trump won the 2024 presidential election, citing a Justice Department policy that prohibits prosecuting sitting presidents.

In his opening statement, Smith said the investigation had gathered “evidence beyond a reasonable doubt” that President Trump “engaged in a criminal scheme” to overturn the 2020 election that culminated in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. He added that investigators “have uncovered strong evidence that President Trump intentionally retained highly classified documents after he left office in January 2021.”

The commission released a video of the deposition and 255 pages of records on Dec. 31.

According to the memo, Smith told lawmakers that Trump was responsible for the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol and staunchly defended Trump’s efforts to prosecute the president.

Regarding Trump’s alleged guilt in the Capitol riot, Smith said, “Our view of the evidence is that Mr. Trump caused and exploited the incident and that it was foreseeable to Mr. Trump.”

He also painted a portrait of recklessness when it came to national security documents.

“President Trump knowingly retained highly classified documents even after he left office in January 2021, storing them in social clubs, including bathrooms and ballrooms where events and gatherings were held,” the opening statement said.

Smith has previously defended the integrity of the investigation.

During his deposition, Smith adamantly denied that prosecutors were politically motivated and rejected suggestions that he was trying to influence the 2024 election. President Trump has repeatedly criticized Smith, calling him “crazy” and “a freak” who was “used by crooked Joe Biden to attack his political opponents.”

In a Jan. 12 interview on Fox News’ “Hannity,” Jordan expressed Republican frustration over Smith’s access to members’ phone records during the investigation.

Republican lawmakers expressed anger over revelations that investigators sought information from a wide range of conservative groups as part of their investigation into President Trump’s efforts to overturn his 2020 presidential election defeat, and also obtained limited cell phone data from eight Republican senators in the period before and after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters.

Smith’s first appearance on Capitol Hill came after Les Johnson, the Republican chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, was sworn in. Jim Jordan of Ohio State subpoenaed Smith for a private deposition. Mr. Smith requested a public hearing at the time.

USA TODAY has reached out to the commission for further comment.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says military AI will ‘never wake up’

“We will not adopt an AI model that does not lead to war,” Hegseth said, adding that military AI “will never wake up.”

play

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth laid out plans to advance military artificial intelligence in a speech in Texas, saying he is creating an “AI-first combat force” that is not constrained by “woke” models.

Hegseth has been an outspoken advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, and for eliminating so-called “woke” policies from the military, including transgender troops.

In a Jan. 12 speech at the SpaceX facility, Hegseth sought to define what “responsible AI” means under his leadership.

“Gone are the days of unbiased AI and other DEI and social justice infusions that limit and disrupt the use of this technology,” Hegseth said. “Effective immediately, responsible AI at the Department of the Army means objectively truthful AI capabilities that are safely employed within the law.”

“We will not adopt an AI model that does not lead to war,” Hegseth said, adding that the department will employ “non-awakening” AI “without ideological constraints.”

Hegseth’s comments come amid growing concerns about the threat posed by AI. UN Secretary-General António Guterres told the UN Security Council in September that AI requires “guardrails” and called for a “ban on autonomous lethal weapons systems that operate without human control.”

Hegseth said the United States has no limits on pursuing new military capabilities.

“While our potential adversaries were engaged in a wartime arms race, we were done running peacetime science fairs,” he said.

He said the risk of falling behind was greater than the “impact of incomplete coordination” and vowed to act quickly.

In promoting AI, Hegseth argued that he is reshaping aspects of the military in a way that better facilitates innovation and rapid adoption of new technologies. He criticized defense industry consolidation, saying new defense contractors face too many barriers and vowed to make it easier for them.

Hegseth was introduced at the event by SpaceX founder Elon Musk, who led the Department of Government Efficiency’s cost-cutting efforts during the early months of President Donald Trump’s second term and has been awarded large defense contracts. The defense secretary said he wants to break away from “Elon-style” bureaucracy in reorienting the Pentagon.

“Today is about how we can accelerate innovation at the Department of the Army for the future,” he said.

See why this 1988 GMC Vandura van is Indiana’s coolest vehicle

Brian Jones was driving down Miller Drive in Bloomington, Indiana, about 15 years ago when something caught his eye. It was a custom-built GMC conversion van, white with red trim and the word “Hoosiers” emblazoned low on the passenger side.

He pulled into the parking lot of what was then Iron Pit Gym. He asked about the 1988 GMC Vandura G2500 and wondered if it was for sale.

“I’ve had a lot of great cars, but I’ve always been a van guy,” said Jones, who has owned 12 vans over the years. “I’ve always thought vans were cool. This is my fifth custom high-top van.”

The gym owner said he found the van parked in a warehouse space at the Miller Drive building. This van must have been luxurious and top-of-the-line for its time, with thick red plush fabric lining the interior walls. Luxurious wine red genuine leather seats.

“You know, vans were all the rage in the ’80s,” he reminded me. “Everyone wanted the coolest van.”

It has track mood lighting, a bed, a small bar, and a table that folds out when the back door opens. refrigerator. A small RCA television and working VCR. Two stereo systems with headphones for each passenger. Many windows have blinds and red curtains.

The van, called the Rally Wagon, was custom built by Day Cruiser in Elkhart, Indiana, which specializes in luxury bus conversions. The van can be connected to the campsite’s electric site. A luxurious suite on wheels.

The vehicle appealed to Mr. Jones. “The guy who bought the gym from Larry Holtz said he just pulled it out of storage in the back corner. He immediately started it up and kicked it out.”

Jones knew Holtz, an entrepreneur who owned several local bars and restaurants in Bloomington. “I went in and looked at the documents and found out who the original owner was.”

The car was beautiful, so buying it crossed Jones’ mind. “I asked if it was for sale and they said they just wanted to get rid of it,” Jones said. “I made an offer.”

The man gave the man $2,500 in cash and left in a van.

The odometer showed 60,000 miles. Mr. Jones added about 10,000 more people. He said there were no mechanical problems with the high-performance engine. He parks his tall van outside his house and has it checked by a mechanic once a year.

Jones owns other cars and two pickup trucks, so the van remains parked most of the time. “I drive around Lake Monroe three or four times a summer and back.” He also took it out on the highway, driving above the speed limit to empty his car’s system.

“I drove it at 80 miles per hour and it went smoothly. It felt like I was sitting on the couch in my living room.”

The coolest van.

President Donald Trump has threatened military action in Iran, including airstrikes, to stop a brutal crackdown on anti-government protests that has left as many as 500 people dead.

Iranian officials said on January 12 that the country was ready for war but also open to dialogue with the United States.

President Trump is expected to discuss options against Iran with senior advisers on January 13. Possibilities include military attacks, cyberattacks, and increased sanctions, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“The military is looking at it, and we’re looking at some very strong options,” Trump told reporters while traveling on Air Force One on January 11.

Protests against the Islamic Republic’s clerical establishment began on December 28 and focused on soaring prices and the collapse of Iran’s currency, the rial. Criticism extended to the theocratic regime itself, accusing the United States of trying to destabilize the country.

In the past 11 days, observers witnessed protests at 348 locations., They include 45 universities in 111 cities in 31 states, according to the Human Rights Defenders News Agency.

According to the Institute for the Study of War, an estimated 114 members of Iranian security forces have been killed since the protests began. The security personnel were from the Law Enforcement Command, the Basij Resistance Forces, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Protests begin across Tehran city

USA TODAY reported that the protests are the biggest challenge to Iran’s clerical rule since 2022. Human rights groups and international monitoring groups have been tracking protests in Iran’s major cities and dozens of towns across all provinces.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said his country was ready to negotiate with the United States. President Trump told reporters on January 11 that a meeting was set.

Iran has not released official statistics on the number of deaths or protests. A government-imposed internet blackout has cut off much communication with people in the country since January 8, disrupting the flow of information.

Do DEI and civil rights policies hurt white people as Trump says?

0

play

President Donald Trump claimed in a recent interview that white people were treated “very badly” as a result of civil rights-era policies aimed at correcting historical patterns of racial discrimination.

The president said the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which aimed to end discrimination and segregation based on race and provide black Americans with equal access to education and employment, “achieved some very great things, but it also hurt a lot of people.”

“People who deserve to go to college and people who deserve to get jobs couldn’t get jobs,” Trump told the New York Times. “Yes, it was reverse discrimination.”

President Trump’s references to “reverse discrimination” (that white people are victims of racial oppression) galvanized his presidential campaign and guided his efforts to eradicate diversity, equity, and inclusion policies in the federal government and private sector during his second term.

This has sparked fierce opposition from civil rights leaders.

“All Americans, regardless of their race, color, or creed, are better off as a result of the civil rights movement and our continued commitment to racial justice. Facing the hard truths about systemic and historical racism is undoubtedly uncomfortable, and few have benefited more from capitalizing on that outrage than the current administration,” said Marc Morial, president of the National Urban League, a civil rights group. “Those who make false claims about racial justice may think they are protecting their own historical advantage, but in reality they are impeding progress and limiting opportunity for everyone, including themselves.”

President Trump targets ‘anti-white sentiment’

During his campaign for a second term, President Trump signaled a dramatic shift in America’s approach to civil rights, vowing to target “anti-white” racism rather than focusing on historically marginalized groups.

“There is clear anti-white sentiment in this country, and it cannot be tolerated,” he said at the time.

In anticipation of Trump’s return to power, Republican activists led by the Heritage Foundation, a think tank that has helped shape policy in Republican administrations since the Reagan era, have developed a sweeping plan known as Project 2025. One of the primary goals of the presidential transition plan was to reverse the “DEI revolution” by eliminating policies such as affirmative action, which Project 2025 calls “positive discrimination.”

Within his first hours back in the Oval Office, Trump made good on a campaign promise, sweeping DEI efforts from the federal government and military, threatening to strip billions of dollars in federal funding and grants from universities, and pressuring companies to scale back programs or risk losing federal contracts.

In another recent escalation, the Trump administration is investigating the diversity efforts of major companies under the False Claims Act, a federal law used by the Justice Department to take action against contractors who defraud the government, USA TODAY reported.

What is “reverse discrimination”?

At the heart of the anti-DEI movement is “reverse discrimination.” The concept first took root during the harsh economic climate of the 1970s, when industrial jobs disappeared, wages stagnated, and inflation skyrocketed.

Federal anti-discrimination laws protect all individuals, but for decades white people have often been held to a higher legal standard when claiming workplace bias than groups that have historically faced discrimination.

Last year, the Supreme Court made it easier for whites, straight people and other members of so-called majority groups to sue for discrimination, siding with Marian Ames, an Ohio woman who claims she twice lost jobs to less qualified gay candidates because she is straight.

At the time, legal experts said the decision was closely watched and could lead to more lawsuits alleging “reverse discrimination.”

In December, a money manager at Carl Icahn’s investment firm sued Bausch & Lomb and his employer, alleging he was denied a board seat because he was white. This is the latest in a series of DEI lawsuits.

“Are you a white man who has experienced discrimination?”

Vice President J.D. Vance and other government officials urged white men to file complaints of racial discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which was established under the Civil Rights Act in 1965 to combat discrimination in the workplace.

“Are you a white male experiencing workplace discrimination based on race or gender? You may have a claim to recover money under federal civil rights law,” EEOC Chairman Andrea Lucas said on social media platform X.

The tweet was further amplified by White House senior adviser Stephen Miller. His organization, America First Legal, broadcasts complaints of reverse discrimination against top companies and other organizations. Vance also backed up the tweet, writing that DEI is an “intentionally discriminatory program against primarily white men.”

Christopher Rufo, DEI critic, senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, and contributing editor of the Institute’s publication City Journal, praised the move to label the “problem of anti-white racism” as “massive change.”

“If you want to have a government that enforces civil rights laws, you need a government that enforces civil rights laws for everyone. Not just favored groups, but all individuals,” Rufo said last year on a recent New York Times podcast. “So what does that mean? It’s similar to what the Trump administration is doing, which is saying that anti-white bigotry should be subject to the same harsh sanctions as anti-black bigotry.”

Historically, “reverse discrimination” claims have been relatively rare. White workers make up about two-thirds of the U.S. workforce, but their discrimination claims account for only about 10% of race-based claims, according to data obtained by USA TODAY from the EEOC in 2023.

Legal experts say white workers tend to experience lower rates of discrimination than other groups. Higher legal standards have also made it more difficult to pursue claims of “reverse discrimination.”

“President Trump’s comments perfectly encapsulate the old adage, ‘When you’re used to privilege, equality feels like oppression.’ Civil rights laws provide fundamental guarantees of equality for all Americans, regardless of race, including white Americans,” said David Glasgow, executive director of the Meltzer Center on Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging at New York University School of Law.

“The idea that civil rights protections treat white Americans, who remain the majority among economic, political, and cultural elites, is not only wrong, it’s ridiculous,” said Glasgow, author of “How Equality Wins: A New Vision for an Inclusive America.”

How the DEI backlash is impacting Black Americans

After the killing of George Floyd in 2020 sparked nationwide protests, companies pledged to make their employees and leadership more reflective of the communities they serve.

The backlash was swift, with advocacy groups arguing that white workers were being denied opportunities in order for employers to hire and promote more women and people of color. They also challenged DEI programs tailored to specific minority groups and policies that tied executive compensation to diversity goals.

“If a major company said in its shareholder proxy statement or in the human resources section of its website, ‘We’re going to increase the white makeup of our workforce by 15% this year,’ most people would say, ‘Well, that’s kind of racist, and that seems wrong,'” Gene Hamilton, vice president and general counsel at America First Legal, told USA TODAY in 2023.

President Trump’s anti-DEI criticism is having ripples across corporate America as companies accelerate efforts to reduce or eliminate DEI programs that could be targeted by the president. These rollbacks have a direct impact on the careers of Black Americans and the diversity of executive suites within the largest companies, according to a USA TODAY analysis.

Black Americans outnumber white Americans 12 to 1 in executive positions, according to the latest data from USA TODAY. At the same time, white men have risen to prominence in corporate boardrooms, eroding the gains made by women and people of color.

“A body of empirical research shows that people of color in general, and black people in particular, are at a disadvantage in the labor market when skills and qualifications are equally sought after,” said Victor Ray, an associate professor at the University of Iowa.

“The Civil Rights Act is a relatively small intervention aimed at correcting state-sponsored discrimination and racial segregation,” Wray said. “Racists have been claiming from the time they were enacted that these laws harm white people. It’s shameful and wrong that the president is digging into discredited racist talking points that most Americans want dead.”

President Trump says ‘we’ll be screwed’ if Supreme Court overturns tariffs

0

play

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump has warned of financial disaster for the United States if the Supreme Court rules that his sweeping tariffs on global imports are illegal.

The country’s high court is preparing to issue an opinion as early as January 14th.

“If the Supreme Court rules against the United States on this national security bonanza, we’re screwed!” President Trump argued in a January 12 post on Truth Social that the United States would have to pay back “hundreds of billions of dollars” in revenue it had collected through new tariffs, as well as “trillions more in private investment.”

President Trump declared a national emergency over the U.S. trade deficit under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 as the legal basis for most tariffs. However, a majority of the Supreme Court justices expressed skepticism about President Trump’s use of emergency powers during oral arguments in November.

The federal government collected about $200 billion more in tariff revenue in 2025 as the president imposed tariffs on imports from around the world. Customs duties are paid by companies when they import goods from other countries.

But Trump said that if the Supreme Court rules against him, the amount of “quid pro quo” would extend to money that companies and other countries spend building factories and equipment in the United States to avoid paying higher tariffs.

“If these investments are added, we’re talking trillions of dollars! It will be a complete mess and nearly impossible for our country to pay for,” Trump wrote. “Anyone who says it’s quick and easy is giving a wrong, inaccurate, or completely misunderstood answer to this very large and complex question.

“It may not be possible, but if it were possible, the amount would be so high that it would take years to figure out the numbers we are talking about, and even who would pay, when and where,” the president added.

President Trump has often exaggerated the level of private investment in the United States that has been spurred by tariffs, and some companies that have promised to invest in the United States have yet to do so. President Trump did not say how he arrived at the “trillion” number.

The ruling against President Trump’s use of emergency powers to impose tariffs is central to his domestic agenda and would be a major blow to his favorite tool in trade negotiations with other countries. The ruling could have a major impact on President Trump’s claims regarding the global economy and broad executive powers.

In the weeks since the justices discussed the tariffs in oral arguments, Mr. Trump has routinely pressed the court publicly to rule in his side.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to issue its next decision on January 14th, but it is unclear whether that decision will include the tariff case that reached the Supreme Court on appeal from the Trump administration. The Supreme Court does not announce in advance which cases it will decide.

Following a legal challenge from business groups opposed to the tariffs, a federal appeals court ruled in August that most of President Trump’s tariffs were illegal.

President Trump has said he is preparing a “game two plan” to enforce tariff policy if courts rule that the tariffs are illegal, but other potential steps have been criticized as “slow” compared to using emergency powers.

These cars took the longest to be sold in 2025

0

This year, some cars occupied dealer lots much longer than others.

play

  • These cars took much longer to sell than many of their segment rivals.
  • Some car models simply didn’t provide enough value to drivers to sell as quickly as their competitors.

Some cars will sell like hotcakes in 2025, while others will be gathering dust on dealer lots. There are several reasons why a particular new car, truck, or SUV model might not sell well. These include weak value propositions, reliability issues, and increased competition.

Cars that take longer for dealers to sell can have an impact on drivers and brands. If there is no strong demand for the nameplate, it may be worth avoiding for consumers and worth noting for automakers. According to data from car buying service CarEdge, these models took the longest to go on sale in 2025.

Jeep Grand Wagoneer will be one of the worst-selling cars in 2025, according to sales data

Jeep’s Grand Wagoneer is a competitive full-size SUV offered by the American automaker in terms of specs, but it hasn’t sold quickly despite high segment rankings in publications such as U.S. News & World Report. According to CarEdge, the daily market supply (the number of days needed to sell all the vehicles in inventory) is 400 days.

The Grand Wagoneer has many strengths, but it loses out to other American full-size SUV models such as the Ford Expedition, GMC Yukon, and Chevrolet Tahoe. A big reason the Grand Wagoneer has stayed on dealer shelves for so long is its high starting price ($63,240).

Many of the best-selling full-size SUVs are slightly more affordable than the Grand Wagoneer, including the most popular full-size SUV in 2025, the Chevrolet Tahoe ($60,400). Additionally, many of the best-selling models in the Grand Wagoneer segment have longer production histories.

Subaru’s electric SUV is not a hit product

The Japanese automaker is known for its rugged SUVs, which have recently been praised for their reliability. Compared to brands like Tesla, Chevrolet, and Ford that make best-selling electric models, EVs aren’t exactly a specialty. Subaru Solterra has a market availability of 411 days.

It’s a close relative of the Toyota bZ, an electric SUV that also struggles in a new ultra-competitive segment dominated by rivals like the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Hyundai Ioniq 5. The latest Solterra models are cheaper than some of their major rivals, but they lack the style and practicality of their major competitors.

Subaru’s Solterra has a range of just 488 miles, and its driving dynamics are bland compared to the Model Y. Tesla’s small electric SUV has a standard range of 321 miles and is known for its practicality.

Dodge Charger EV isn’t selling as well as its major rivals

Stellantis had a tough year, posting a $2.7 billion loss in the first half, according to Forbes. Dodge and other Stellantis brands have struggled to gain a foothold in the emerging electric vehicle space. The lackluster sales of the all-electric Dodge Charger is a perfect example of why no car brand needs to go all-in on electrifying its popular nameplates. Market day supply is 446.

Dodge’s two-door Charger starts at $54,995, making it expensive compared to popular models like the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6. Aside from its high starting price, the idea of an all-electric Dodge Charger is difficult for many fans of the brand to wrap their heads around.

According to CarEdge, Volkswagen’s ID.4 will be the slowest selling car of 2025.

This year’s top three worst-selling cars are all electric, and there are competitors with more affordable starting prices and more practical driving ranges. The Volkswagen ID.4 small electric SUV got off to a strong start, and at the height of its popularity was competing with the Model Y in international sales. Currently, the ID.4 is not popular among American consumers in this segment, but the daily market supply is 471 units.

Like the Subaru Solterra, the Volkswagen ID.4 has been overshadowed by more attractive offerings from rivals Tesla, Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai and Kia. Additionally, the current administration’s reversal of EV incentives will make purchasing electric vehicles in general less attractive by 2025.

The USDA is promoting the use of Trump Milk Mustache in all dairy products. Is it healthy?

(All) Do you have milk? The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) says it’s time to “drink it up.”

The agency shared an image of President Donald Trump with a milk mustache on social media on January 11, quickly garnering millions of views and thousands of comments. The post, accompanied by the hashtag #DrinkholeMilk, features an image of Trump leaning on a desk in the Oval Office, holding a glass of milk and looking into the camera.

Reminds me of “Do you have any milk?” In ads from the ’90s and 2000s, President Trump is seen in an obviously edited image with a line of milk across his upper lip, under the title “The Milk Mustache is Back. Drink Whole Milk.”

The commitment to whole dairy products is part of new guidelines released Jan. 7 by the Department of Agriculture under Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy Jr., which emphasizes full-fat dairy products, protein and “healthy fats.”

The social media post itself attracted the attention of netizens, and various reactions occurred on X (formerly Twitter). While some celebrated the move, others mocked the image, joking that milk sales must be down and accusing government agencies of being influenced by the dairy industry.

RFK’s New Food Pyramid and Whole Dairy Products

The Department of Agriculture released new dietary guidelines on January 7, essentially upending the food pyramid as many people knew it.

Grains were the basis of the proposed diet when the pyramid was first adopted in the 1990s, but they are now the smallest group and have been relegated to the bottom. Protein, dairy products, fats, fruits and vegetables are the biggest categories topping the list.

The new guidelines emphasize foods that have historically been recommended to be consumed in moderation, particularly red meat, full-fat dairy products, and several types of fats, including trans fats. These categories align with RFK’s preferred message as part of the “Make America Healthy Again” movement, which promotes beef tallow and opposes added sugar.

Previous nutritional guidelines recommended minimizing or avoiding all types of fat, including full-fat dairy products, healthy fats, and saturated fats. The new guidelines recommend three servings of full-fat dairy products per day, but limit saturated fat to 10% of daily calories.

Are whole dairy products better for you?

The relative “healthiness” of whole and reduced dairy products depends on what you get from them.

According to experts, the biggest potential pitfall of consuming large amounts of full-fat dairy products is their high fat content. Only 10% of your daily calories should come from saturated fat, and this percentage can be easily met or exceeded through dairy consumption alone.

Harvard University’s TH Chan School of Public Health gave an example of how quickly consuming three glasses of full-fat milk a day can put you over the dietary limit. In a standard 2,000 calorie daily diet, 10% of the calories equals about 22 grams of saturated fat. Before adding any other food groups, one serving of whole milk, one serving of full-fat Greek yogurt, and one serving of full-fat cheese per day already provides 17 grams of saturated fat.

The school’s website states: “Adding one tablespoon of butter (7 grams) or beef tallow (6 grams) (both of which suggest cooking fat options) would exceed the limit. And this doesn’t even take into account other foods consumed throughout the day, including some of the recommended protein options.”

But fat isn’t necessarily a bad thing. According to the University of Washington, our bodies need several types of fats to function, and whole dairy products are a good source of “healthy” fats, which help absorb fat-soluble vitamins like vitamins A and K.

Whole dairy products contain more nutrients (like protein, calcium, phosphorus, and vitamins A, B, and D) and essential omega-3 fatty acids, which keep you feeling fuller longer. Low-fat dairy options, on the other hand, reduce the amount of saturated fat in your diet while providing many of the same nutrients.

More recent research has investigated and questioned the link between saturated fat, full-fat dairy products, and health issues such as cardiovascular health and good and bad cholesterol. The Mayo Clinic says a new study shows that full-fat milk, cheese, and yogurt “may have less negative effects on heart and vascular health than previously thought.”

The choice between whole and low-fat depends on an individual’s daily needs. Those looking to reduce or avoid added saturated fat in their diet may choose lower-fat options, while those who need more of the other nutrients provided by whole dairy products may choose full-fat.

Experts warn against going all-in on full fat

While some health organizations praised some aspects of the new guidelines, such as an emphasis on more whole foods and less processed foods, the whole dairy recommendation drew more attention.

“While the guidelines emphasize full-fat dairy products, the Heart Association encourages consumption of low-fat and non-fat dairy products that are beneficial to heart health,” the American Heart Association said in a statement about the guidelines.

“Several aspects of the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines are poised to promote healthy eating habits and reduce disease risk,” Karen Peterson, associate director of the University of Michigan Nutrition and Obesity Research Center and chair of nutrition science at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, said in a statement shortly after the release of the new guidelines.

“However, recommending the consumption of red meat and high-fat dairy products without specific guidelines on portion size and portion size could easily counteract consumer efforts to simultaneously limit energy intake to less than 10% from saturated fat,” she said.

How was the U.S. figure skating team chosen for the 2026 Olympics?

  • USA Figure Skating has officially named 16 athletes to represent Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
  • The selection committee considered each skater’s body of work and placed the most weight on their performance at the national championships.
  • There was an easy selection, but the men’s team had difficulty in the free skate, so veteran Jason Brown was selected as an alternate.
  • Due to nationality issues, two pairs that made it to the podium at the national competition were not selected for the Olympic team.

ST. LOUIS — U.S. figure skating had to consider every scenario when determining the 16 athletes who will represent Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The selection committee met and deliberated after each field completed its final section at the national competition. Committee members considered each skater’s recent body of work and reviewed data points and strength of performance. After two days of deliberation, fun announcements, and tough conversations, USA Figure Skating has officially announced the roster of athletes aiming for a medal podium in Milan-Cortina.

“I think we can all agree that we have some phenomenal athletes as part of Team USA traveling to Milan,” said Justin Dillon, USFS chief performance officer.

Each field meeting used up the allotted 90 minutes. The committee also selected athletes to compete in the World Championships and the Four Continents Championships. But that doesn’t mean all the Olympic team decisions were difficult. The women’s team, for example, was straightforward: Amber Glenn, Alisa Liu, and Isabeau Levitt finished with gold, silver, and bronze at the national championships, each completing the short program and free skate, making it clear they were a trio. The same can be said for top male skater Ilia Marin, who is a gold medal favorite at the Milan Games.

The difficult decision was which two men would join Marinin.

Heading into the weekend, veteran and fan favorite Jason Brown has earned a spot. Things changed after he struggled mightily in the free skate. This performance sent him plummeting to eighth place, and he was removed from the competition, taking his place as an alternate.

“Jason Brown is loved by our skating community. He’s a great athlete. He’s someone we’ve been able to admire in several competitions, performances, seasons, years, etc.,” Dillon said. “Everyone was subject to the same selection criteria.”

As a result, the last two spots were given to Andrew Tolgashev and Maxim Naumov, who took second and third place respectively at the national championship. Although the USFS uses the past two seasons to determine who qualifies, Dillon noted that the national championship is “the most important thing.”

Maxim Naumov shares how he prepared for his emotional short program performance in St. Louis after losing his parents in a tragic plane crash last year.

sports pulse

Tolgashev had an impressive free skate, jumping from fifth place after the short program to second place overall with 267.62 points. Naumov showed an impressive short program and a solid free skate, earning a total of 249.16 points.

“We went through the list from top to bottom of the people who are in contention or who are qualified to reach the conclusions that we came to,” Dillon said.

The same pattern followed for the three pairs of ice dancers. Seven-time champions Madison Chock and Evan Bates were the obvious choices, with other podium teams Emilia Dzingas and Vadim Kolesnik and Christina Carrera and Anthony Ponomarenko taking the remaining two spots.

Pears was more complicated. Back-to-back champions Alisa Efimova and Mischa Mitrofanov failed to qualify because Efimova, a Finnish native, was unable to obtain U.S. citizenship in time despite a last-ditch effort.

On Friday, USFS CEO Matt Farrell said the selection of the pair would be decided on Saturday morning and that Efimova would need citizenship approval by the end of the meeting or she would not be selected. In the end, the uncertainty kept them away from the conversation.

“The process was a very long, complicated, inexact science, and at the end of the day, despite heroic efforts by various parties, nothing was concrete enough to make it feel real until the very last moment,” Farrell said.

Second-placed Ellie Kam and Daniel O’Shea qualified for the Olympics, along with fourth-placed Emily Chan and Spencer Akira Howe, who moved up the rankings with a strong free skate.

Chan and Howe, who finished fourth in the national competition, earned a spot in the Olympics ahead of the third-place team of Katie McBeath and Danielle Parkman, as Parkman, who is from Russia, does not have American citizenship. Dillon noted that Parkman is not as close to getting Efimova as she is.

“McBeath and Parkman were just beginning the process, so they knew that addressing this issue was not something they should consider,” he said.

After all the discussions and meetings, a new part of the process began. It’s about communicating the decision to the athlete. Previously, people would receive news via email or text, but officials felt this needed a more personal touch.

This year, both successful and unsuccessful skaters convened to hear the news firsthand. The men were the last group to learn their fate, and the conversation took place Sunday morning in St. Louis, about three hours before the team was made public.

There are many incredible aspects to the people who make up this team, and the past few days have provided some memorable moments that make this Olympic send-off truly special.

“This is the best thing for the future of the sport,” Farrell said. “All eyes are on the U.S. Olympic team that we can all be so proud of.”

U.S. new car buyers will see record prices in December, says Kelley Blue Book

  • The average price of a new car reached an all-time high of $50,326 in December 2025.
  • Consumer preference for luxury models and high-end pickups contributed to record prices.
  • Tata Motors had the highest average transaction price among automakers at $101,513.

Car buyers paid a record average of $50,326 for a new car in December 2025, according to Kelley Blue Book.

The group said the average price of a new car rose 0.8% in December compared to November’s average price of $49,814. Kelley Blue Book also announced that automakers’ December 2025 average MSRP was at a record high of $52,627, 1.2% higher than in November.

Erin Keating, an executive analyst at Cox Automotive, said in a statement that the record-high average vehicle sales price may be due to higher sticker prices commonly seen in December, as well as consumer preference for luxury models, leading to higher monthly transaction totals.

“Prices typically go up in December because there’s a lot of luxury and luxury car sales in the market,” Keating said. “Nearly 20% of shoppers purchased luxury goods last month, which will peak in 2025. This does not include the amount of luxury pickups purchased by wealthy shoppers.”

What are the average prices for different types of cars?

According to Kelley Blue Book, midsize SUVs became the best-selling vehicle segment in December for the first time in 2025, contributing to higher average transaction prices than during the period when small SUVs led sales, the group said.

Here are the average selling prices for popular car segments:

  • Full-size pickup truck | $66,386
  • Electric car | Electric car $56,691
  • Midsize SUV | $49,114
  • Compact SUV | $36,417

What was the most expensive car brand in December 2025?

Tata Motors was the automaker with the highest average transaction price in December 2025. The German automaker’s average selling price was $101,513, up 2.2% from November’s average price of $99,324.

Here are the average transaction prices for other automakers in December 2025:

  • BMW | $72,137

Muhammad Ali’s U.S. Postal Service will soon be abolished. What you need to know.

Boxer Muhammad Ali once joked that being on a postage stamp was “the only way to get licked.” Currently, there are only a few days left until the release of his own stamp.

A commemorative U.S. Post Office stamp commemorating the boxer and heavyweight champion will be issued for the first time on January 15, the postal service announced, adding that a ceremony honoring the stamp will be held at the University of Louisville L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium.

The stamps will go on sale January 15th and will be sold in packs of 20 for $15.60, according to the Post Office website.

Antonio Alcala, art director of the Post Office’s stamp development program, designed the stamp. The stamp features a 1974 black-and-white Associated Press image of a boxer with his gloves propped up and looking into the lens.

Here’s a little more information about the Champion stamps and other stamps that will be released this week.

The stamp features an image of a 1970s boxing champion

Alcala said on the post office’s website that the stamp features an image of a boxer making eye contact in a “convincing” manner.

“His stance and boxing gloves clearly communicate how he became an American sports icon,” Alcala said.

His name is also printed on stamps, sometimes in all caps, similar to the posters used to promote the athlete’s fights that made history.

Ali learned boxing after his bike was stolen

According to the Muhammad Ali Center, a museum in Ali’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, part of Ali’s boxing career stemmed from an incident in his childhood.

Twelve-year-old Ali (real name Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr.) had his red Schwinn bicycle stolen in 1954. She cried and told a nearby police officer that she wanted to punch the person who stole her bicycle. Police officer, Sgt. Joe Martin trained boxers and encouraged boys to learn how to fight. Ali began training the next day and worked with Martin for the next six years, according to the museum.

The boxer won a gold medal in light heavyweight boxing at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, the museum said on its website. He defeated Sonny Liston on February 25, 1964 to win his first World Heavyweight Championship title.

The following month, he announced his membership in the Nation of Islam, and on March 6, 1964, Nation of Islam leaders gave him the sacred name “Muhammad Ali,” according to the museum.

On April 28, 1967, Ali refused military service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War due to religious reasons. He was found guilty of draft evasion and sentenced to up to five years in prison, a $10,000 fine and a three-year ban from boxing, according to the museum. He was also stripped of his heavyweight title.

Celebrating Ali’s humanitarian work

The sheet, which includes 20 stamps, also features a 1976 photo of Muhammad Ali smiling in a suit.

Ali’s humanitarian work included donations to support families affected by the Robena mine explosion on December 6, 1962.

He also donated $10,000 to the United Negro College Fund in 1967. According to the University of Louisville, the foundation’s president said at the time that Ali’s donation was in a plain envelope with no request for publicity.

“There are many sides to Ali,” Alcala said of the boxer. “We felt it was important to not only represent him as a boxer on the stamp, but also include a photo that shows his side outside of boxing.”

How to get a Muhammad Ali stamp

Anyone who wants to get the stamps can pre-order them at www.store.usps.com or purchase them at post offices nationwide, Postal Service officials announced on January 12.

22 million Muhammad Ali stamps will be printed, officials told USA TODAY.

Other Ali-inspired postal products include a set of two pocket-sized field notes notebooks featuring the boxer, collectible envelopes, and a stamp portfolio detailing the stamp design process.
