Ariana Grande, Paul Mescal and others scorned for 2026 Oscar nominations
The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards have been announced, and there are many shocking snubs. Here are some names that were not nominated for an Oscar.
Ariana Grande is laughing after a fan says she accidentally added an extra finger in a photo from her recent Vogue cover shoot.
Vogue Japan recently named the pop star and “Wicked” actress as its March 2026 cover star, and has since published an interview and released a photo of her.
One fan said there was an error in the since-deleted photo shoot post that showed the “Eternal Sunshine” singer had six hands instead of five. Grande commented on her reaction to a fan’s post, quipping that she needed a little more energy to work on her next album.
She wrote in the comments section of a fan post on Jan. 30, “Oh my god, how exciting! I kept saying I needed an extra accessory to start the album! Thank you for this.”
A photo posted on the Vogue Japan website on January 31 shows Grande with only five fingers.
USA TODAY has reached out to Vogue Japan’s parent company, Condé Nast, for comment.

In her cover story, Grande talked about her success in returning to acting while growing up as a musician.
“I never thought this moment would come in my life,” she told reporter Thomas Mir. “Between ‘Wicked’ and ‘Eternal Sunshine,’ I think it’s the first time in my career that I really feel like I’m being noticed for my work and as an artist. I really do.”
she continued. “I never thought in my life that I would be an Oscar-nominated actress. I never thought I would be seen that way in the industry I love. I dedicate my life to art every minute of every day, so to feel embraced again and to be able to share that with my mom is so special.”
Throughout her career, Grande has been nominated for 19 Grammy Awards and won two, as well as receiving two Golden Globe nominations and one Oscar nomination.
However, she was not nominated for an Academy Award in 2026 after the musical sequel, Wicked: For Good, was canceled on January 22, despite predictions from award experts.
