Apple Carplay Ultra can display information not only on the main infotainment screen, but also on all vehicle screens, including equipment clusters. It is available on new Aston Martin models and other models that can be upgraded to Ultra via software updates.
Some brands that feature Carplay Ultra have so far included the Korean Hyundai, Kia and Genesis brands. “This is just the beginning, with more car manufacturers on the way,” said Bob Borchers, vice president of Apple’s Worldwide Product Marketing.
Automakers “can express a unique design philosophy,” Apple said in an announcement of CarPlay Ultra.
New Apple CarPlay Features
Apple Carplay Ultra includes several new features, including, but not limited to:
- Multi-screen integration
- Enhanced vehicle function control
- Advanced Vehicle Specific Features
- I-Phone Widget
The latest update from Apple will show you some new features that take integration to a completely other level. Drivers can manage radio and climate control settings via SIRI. Vehicle-specific performance fixtures such as suspension settings and driving modes are adjusted through car play. Customizable widgets such as weather and travel information are also displayed on the vehicle’s screen.
What iPhones Can I Use Apple Carplay Ultra?
According to Apple, Carplay Ultra is running iOS 18.5 or later on iPhone 12 or later. The software is available on Aston Martin Core models, but Apple will expand availability to vehicles worldwide within the next 12 months. Technology companies are working with automakers to make CarPlay Ultra Experience a unique brand-specific experience.
While some infotainment systems are better than others, many drivers use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto every day to access drive navigation and entertainment. The wired and wireless Apple CarPlay feature has become a popular car feature.
The attachments to your smartphone are well documented. Carplay “provides a safer and smarter way to use your iPhone in your car,” Apple said.
