Serbian President Alexander Vicz has returned to Serbia after shortening his visit to the US and feeling sudden chest pain, apparently caused by high blood pressure, doctors said on Saturday.
Vucic, 55, suddenly got sick during a meeting in the US on Friday and decided to go home against advice from US doctors, said Dragan Dincic, a cardiologist at a military hospital in Belgrade, where Vucic was treated when he arrived.
Dincic said Vucic received additional treatment after the incident and was now in a “stable and satisfying state.” Dincic added that Vucic will not be hospitalized, but “we cannot expect to return to his normal activities for several days.”
Vucic was previously in Miami, Florida, where he met former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Vucic said he hopes he will meet with US President Donald Trump.
Richard Grenell, the US President’s envoy for special missions, expressed his hope that VUCIC would recover. “I’m sorry I missed you, but I hope everything is fine,” Grenell wrote to X.
The Serbian populist leader also said he will travel to Russia later this month to attend the Victory Day parade in Moscow, despite warnings from European Union officials that could affect bids for the Serbian bloc.
Vucic refused to participate in Western sanctions against Russia over Ukrainian invasion. He is also under pressure at home after six months of sustained anti-rot protests caused by the collapse of roofs at a railway station in the country that killed 16 people.
