George Clooney and his wife Amal become French citizens with their children
George Clooney’s family now calls their farm in France home, prioritizing privacy and a more normal life for their children.
George and Amal Clooney have evacuated their home and are huddled alongside their French community as wildfires spread across Europe.
In a letter to the mayor, the couple said they had left their home in Brignoles, southern France. George Clooney’s representative shared the letter with USA TODAY on July 29th.
People were the first to report evacuations.
“Dear Didier, at this time we do not know if our beautiful home will survive this terrible moment,” the letter read, according to People magazine.
“As we evacuate Brignoles, we would like to emphasize two things,” the letter said. “First of all, we hope that you and the people of our city are safe. Second, Amal and I are committed to being part of this community and participating in the health of this community, no matter what happens to our village. We love Brignoles and our friends who live there.”
The Clooneys, who have nine-year-old twins Alexander and Ella, made the French countryside their primary home last year. They acquired French citizenship in 2025.
A heat wave is fueling fast-moving wildfires across southern Europe, forcing thousands of people to evacuate their communities in France, Spain and Greece.
In addition to their home in France, the Clooneys also own homes in England, Italy and Kentucky.
The Oscar winner has previously said that the slower pace of life in the French countryside provided him with the kind of childhood he wanted for his children, recalling his time growing up on a farm in Kentucky.
“I grew up on a farm for a good part of my life, and as a kid I hated the whole idea of a farm,” he told Esquire in 2025. “But now for them, it’s like they’re not using an iPad. They have to eat dinner with an adult and bring in the dishes. They have a much better life.”
“I felt they would never get a proper shakeup in life,” he continued. “France – They don’t really care about fame. They don’t want them walking around worrying about paparazzi. They don’t want to be compared to someone else’s famous kids.”
