President Donald Trump attacked CNN’s Caitlan Collins, saying there was “hate in her eyes.”
Caitlan Collins isn’t breaking a sweat as President Donald Trump continues to insult her.
CNN’s White House chief correspondent told “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart that he was not shocked by President Trump’s speech at the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Friday, July 24. In it, the president harshly criticized the award-winning reporter.
“That happens quite often in the Oval Office,” Collins, 34, told Stewart. “What struck me most was that the room was filled with a large number of staff, Cabinet members, allies, and Republicans in Congress. The room was very quiet during the president’s remarks.”
In his speech, the president said he “wanted to personally congratulate” her on receiving the award earlier that night, before adding that the honor was “a fake and it’s all his own.” Collins won the award for his reporting on the tense 2025 Oval Office meeting between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
President Trump also commented on Collins’ appearance, comparing her to transgender media personality Dylan Mulvaney. “Caitlan thought she was really successful with a new big sponsor, but then we told her that it wasn’t her that was on the Bud Light can, it was Dylan Mulvaney,” he said. A few days later, the president posted an AI-generated image of Collins’ head on Mulvaney’s body on Truth Social.
Stewart praised Collins for remaining “unperturbed” while covering the president, despite being called “terrible” and “stupid.”
“That’s why I’m asking the questions I always do,” Collins said. “I don’t want this film to serve just one audience or one political leaning. I want everyone, from my family in Alabama to the people in the White House to the people in Washington, to be able to hear that answer, hear that question and think, ‘What’s the answer to that?’
“Well, obviously the answer is, you should laugh more,” Stewart joked.
“It’s not really about me and I don’t want it to be about my reaction,” Collins said of why she never gets angry and seems able to “distance” during unpleasant interactions with Trump.
She continued, “At times like that, I think it’s important to remind yourself of the work, the questions, and the answers you didn’t get.”
