Johnny Depp ‘relieved’ after verdict in Amber Heard defamation case
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have released a statement after Depp won a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife. Hurd was partially successful in his counterclaim for defamation.

SAN DIEGO — San Diego Comic-Con is Christmas in July.
Johnny Depp surprised fans at the convention on July 23rd when he appeared unannounced on an unrelated panel to play Ebenezer Scrooge in the new movie Ebenezer.
Depp appeared on stage in full Scrooge costume – top hat, walking stick and candles – to close Collider’s Directors on Direction panel, but otherwise had no connection to Depp or Scrooge. The content focused on a conversation between Zach Creger and filmmaking duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley about their respective careers and upcoming films “Resident Evil” and “Mayday.”
As the conversation was about to end, the lights in the room suddenly went out, before the words “Johnny Depp is Ebenezer” appeared on the screen in the hall. Depp then took to the stage and delivered a monologue as a grumpy “Christmas character.”
“Are you all dead?” he asked the crowd of Comic-Con attendees. “Don’t you have any responsibilities?…Why are you here? Well, I don’t care, but since I came all the way here, I want to go, right?…Let’s give each of you a gift of this candy.”
Depp pulled out a candy cane, threw it on stage, and walked away to the sound of chains and voices calling Scrooge’s name. “Oh, no more, Jacob Marley,” he said as he exited, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd.
After Depp left, the first trailer for “Ebenezer” aired. It was also published online.
Ebenezer, directed by Ti West, will be Depp’s first major Hollywood film in years after his high-profile libel trial with ex-wife Amber Heard, in which both actors accused each other of domestic violence.
The trailer leans heavily into the meta idea of Depp himself returning. It opens with on-screen text referencing Depp’s most iconic movie characters: “He brought us Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands, and the Mad Hatter. This Thanksgiving, the master misfit returns.”
“It’s good to be back,” says Depp as Scrooge, a line that reads like Depp himself said it.
He also appeared as Scrooge in front of a crowd gathered at an installation in San Diego as part of the convention.
“Ebenezer” will be released in theaters on November 13th.
