E. Jean Carroll awarded $5.6 million, Trump holds liable for sexual abuse and defamation
President Trump paid more than $5.6 million, including interest, to E. Jean Carroll, who was accused of sexually abusing and defaming her.
Author E. Jean Carroll referenced the historic Apollo 11 mission in a social media post on July 14, reacting to the news that the $5 million plus interest awarded to her in her lawsuit against President Donald Trump will finally be paid after weeks of legal wrangling.
“The Eagle has landed,” she wrote on X while reposting the development report.
American astronaut Commander Neil Armstrong famously radioed the same words to mission control in Houston after he and fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to reach the surface of a celestial body in the galaxy.
On July 20, 1969, after the lunar module made contact with the moon’s surface, Captain Armstrong said, “Houston, this is Calm Base.” “The Eagle has landed.”
Historical words of the mission to the moon
Astronauts departed Kennedy Space Center on July 16th, taking part in a historic and world-famous mission to become the first humans to land on the moon. This goal was a priority of President John F. Kennedy, and a NASA facility is named after him.
Hundreds of thousands of people flocked to Space Coast shorelines, beaches, and parking lots to watch the Saturn V ascent.
Four days later, Armstrong and Aldrin set foot on the moon’s surface while fellow astronaut Michael Collins orbited the moon in the command module Columbia.
Closer to home, in 2023, a federal civil jury found President Trump responsible for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll, an allegation the president continues to deny.
On July 14, more than $5.6 million was paid out of funds raised to keep President Trump in custody while he appeals his sentence, according to court records. The spending comes just over two weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 29 decision not to review the president’s appeal.
Carroll had asked a Manhattan court to order the president to pay, arguing that Trump was using improper delay tactics. President Trump said he is asking the Supreme Court to reconsider the case.
Carroll, a New York author, journalist and former advice columnist, filed a lawsuit in 2019 accusing Trump of assault and defamation, accusing him of lying about a 1996 sexual assault at a New York City department store and disrespecting his character.
