Krispy Kreme lovers fry their donuts in a pan to get a crispy outer layer.
Krispy Kreme turns 89 this week, and the popular donut chain is celebrating by offering customers discounts on its most iconic menu items.
The company announced in a July 14 news release that starting Friday, July 17, customers can get 12 Original Glazed Donuts for just 89 cents when they buy 12 Original Glazed Donuts at regular price at participating U.S. stores. Limit of 20 items per customer in-store and drive-thru and 12 items per customer for online pickup and delivery orders.
“Krispy Kreme’s birthday is truly a celebration of our fans,” said Alison Holder, Krispy Kreme’s chief brand and product officer, in a news release. “Offering a dozen Original Glazed for just 89 cents is our way of saying thank you to our guests who make Krispy Kreme a part of their celebrations, traditions and sweet moments every day.”
The company’s history began in 1937 when founder Vernon Rudolph opened his first store in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. According to Krispy Kreme, curious passersby began asking Rudolph if they could buy fresh donuts directly from the bakery, which led to Rudolph cutting a hole in the exterior wall and serving fresh Original Glazed Donuts on the sidewalk.
Krispy Kreme releases donuts inspired by Girl Scout cookies
The inspiration for Krispy Kreme’s newest flavor comes from Girl Scout Cookies.
The donut and coffeehouse chain is offering three new donuts inspired by Girl Scout cookies for a limited time at participating locations nationwide.
The donuts can be purchased individually or sold by the dozen and are “perfect to share with friends, take to the office, or just treat yourself,” according to a company news release.
“Girl Scout Cookie flavors are iconic for a reason,” Holder said in a statement. “Reimagining them as donuts is a fun way to bring a familiar favorite to fans in a completely new and truly engaging way.”
The arrival of donuts may satisfy cookie lovers’ cravings for the annual treat. This is because Girl Scout Cookies are usually sold in the off-season from January to April, but local drop times vary by troop.
The new limited-time Girl Scout Cookie Inspire Dozen includes three new recruits:
- Coconut caramel donut: Original glazed donuts dipped in chocolate icing and topped with coconut and caramel (inspired by Samoan Cookies and Caramel Delight Cookies).
- thin mint donut: Original glazed donuts are dipped in chocolate icing, topped with Thin Mint cookie crumbles and dark chocolate chips, and sprinkled with mint green icing.
- Lemon ups donuts: Unglazed shell donuts are filled with lemon crisp cream filling and dipped in lemon-flavored icing, creating a bright lemon-inspired design.
