Everyone must learn the value of a dollar. Kristin Cavallari gives her children a good education.

The reality TV star and beauty mogul appeared on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast on Tuesday, July 7, and opened up about teaching her kids about money. Cavallari, who founded the jewelry and skincare company Uncommon James, has three children with ex-husband Jay Cutler, sons Camden, 13, and Jackson, 12, and daughter Saylor, 10.

“I chose to be the best mother and business owner I could be,” Cavallari, 39, told host Emma Grede. “I’d like to sit here and say that Uncommon James is a $100 million company, but it’s not. But I’m the best mom, and my kids will tell you the same.”

But Cavallari’s children can’t ride on the benefits of her celebrity success.

The “Laguna Beach” alum revealed that when the kids travel together, they ride coach and Cavallari flies first class.

“My kids don’t just get what they want,” Cavallari said. “And if they want something, they have to work for it.”

Cavallari added that she tries to teach her children how to think about money because they are “growing up in a very privileged situation.”

“When they were old enough to grow, that was important to me,” Cavallari said of her family’s air travel. “I’m like, ‘Goodbye, go back to having fun.’ … It’s good for them. And I think as a parent, little things like that ultimately make a big difference in the long run.”

Cavallari’s tough-love approach may be shaping tomorrow’s business tycoons, she says, and her children have since learned to start “their own small businesses” to make money.

“One of my sons was washing people’s windows, and the other was washing people’s trash cans,” Cavallari said. “Because if they want something, they have to work for it. And they have to make it happen.”
