A recall has been issued for kimchi and tofu gimbap products sold at ALDI stores in 19 states and Washington, D.C., after it was determined that the food may contain undeclared tuna, posing a serious risk to people with allergies.

This is just one of several recalls affecting ALDI products in recent months, including more than 500,000 boxes of macaroni and cheese.

If you or someone you know is allergic to tuna, here’s what you need to know about the latest incident.

Reminds me of Fusia Asian inspired kimchi and tofu kimbap

New Jersey-based Gellert Global Group announced on July 2 that it is recalling 8.1-ounce packages of ALDI-branded Fusia Asian Inspiration Kimchi & Tofu Kimbap due to possible contamination with undeclared tuna.

According to the recall notice, “If these products are ingested by people with an allergy or severe sensitivity to fish, there is a risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.”

The package has an expiration date of October 8, 2027 and was distributed to selected ALDI locations across 19 states and one territory, including:

  • connecticut
  • Washington DC
  • Delaware
  • louisiana
  • maryland
  • maine
  • Massachusetts
  • north carolina
  • new hampshire
  • new york
  • ohio
  • oklahoma
  • pennsylvania
  • rhode island
  • south carolina
  • tennessee
  • texas
  • virginia
  • vermont state
  • west virginia

How was the problem identified?

Gellert Global Group said it learned of the mistake after a customer pointed out that the product contained fish but was provided in packaging that made no mention of the presence of fish.

The company launched an investigation that found a “temporary glitch” in “manufacturing and packaging procedures,” which it said “has since been corrected.”

Gellert Global Group said no illnesses related to the mistake have been reported.
