Spoiler alert! The following post covers key plot points and the ending of “Supergirl” (currently in theaters), so keep an eye out if you haven’t seen it yet.

“Supergirl” director Craig Gillespie has a secret he wants to protect.

For example, when the question arose as to whether some weird little alien on the space bus who sounded unmistakably like Seth Rogen was actually Rogen.

“He’s your friend, so you can do whatever you want,” Supergirl star Millie Alcock said in an interview with director Craig Gillespie, to which the director grinned and replied, “You looked a lot like him, didn’t you?”

“I thought it was you,” Alcock says jokingly.

“Yes, Seth is a lot like me,” Gillespie added.

Therefore, it remains a mystery for now. But there’s definitely something to be said about Supergirl, especially when it comes to character choices. After Kara Zor-El (Alcock) is poisoned to death by Yellow Hill villain Clem (Matthias Schoenaerts), she sets off on a planet-hopping mission to rescue her beloved Krypto, accompanied by a young, vengeful girl named Lucy (Eve Ridley).

Alcock and Gillespie discuss Kara’s fateful decisions in the DC superhero films and her changing relationship with her cousin Clark Kent (David Corenswet), aka Superman.

How will “Supergirl” end?

With the help of bounty hunter Lobo (Jason Momoa), Kara and Lucy track down Clem and his evil bandits. Kara defeats Clem in a battle to obtain Krypto’s antidote, and Lucy attempts to kill Clem, who killed her parents, with her own hands. Kara convinces her to stop doing it, and as Lucy walks away, Kara turns to Clem and stabs him multiple times with her sword.

“For me, it was like the only option,” Alcock told USA TODAY. “She’s protecting Lucy from further traumatizing herself by having to deal with all these huge, contradictory emotions. She’s basically trying to teach her how not to do the same thing. To not run away from all the pain and know that that pain has to be resolved internally, rather than externally by drinking or hurting people or hurting yourself.”

Alcock added that Kara’s choices are also “what separates her from Clark,” who had a similar conflict with Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) at the end of “Superman,” but had the authorities deal with all but minor injuries from Krypto Corporation.

“She is right to act in such a twisted way. She has seen so many people suffer.”

Gillespie added that the moment is Kara’s “own interpretation of what a superhero is. You see the conflict between her and Clark and the way they argue about it, but Clark has a completely different perspective.”

Does “Supergirl” have a post-credits scene?

Unlike last summer’s “Superman,” “Supergirl” has nothing beyond its final scene. But this is an important event. Kara reunites with Clark on Earth. Unlike the flashbacks earlier in the film, she appears to be stuck there. Fans won’t have to wait too long to see her again, as director James Gunn has said she will have a “huge role” in his 2027 Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow.

Alcock says his relationship with Corenswet is very simple. “I’m Kara and David is Clark,” she laughs. Their belief system creates a “very natural part,” but in reality they are family.

“There is still a requirement and ability to love and empathize,” Alcock surmises. “And you know what you do to your loved ones when you allow the other person to win, when you can’t even win an argument? Sometimes you walk away even when you know you’re right, or you let the other person win when you know you should have won.”

“There’s a really beautiful, messy nuance to it. And I really hope we can explore that a little bit more.”
