Amazon to refund $2.5 billion in Prime settlement
Amazon plans to refund millions of dollars after settling an FTC lawsuit over Prime membership and cancellation issues.
Some of Amazon’s affected customers have just 30 days left to file the company’s $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission.
Not all Amazon customers are eligible, but those who are eligible can receive up to $51.
This dates back to the retailer’s September 2025 settlement with the FTC, in which Amazon agreed to pay $2.5 billion to settle an antitrust lawsuit. The lawsuit, filed in 2023, alleges that Amazon forced consumers to sign up for Prime memberships and then made it difficult to cancel.
The window to submit claims for the proposed settlement closes on July 27th. This is the second stage of payment of the settlement offer. First, eligible customers received automatic payments last year.
Amazon has denied wrongdoing and said it works to make canceling a Prime membership “clear and easy for customers.”
Can I receive money through Amazon payment?
Only some Amazon customers are eligible for settlement payments. According to the court order in this case, a customer is eligible if they meet both of the following criteria:
- Registration date: Customers who signed up for Prime between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025.
- I’ll try canceling: If a customer attempts to cancel their Prime subscription and is unsuccessful, or if they signed up for Prime through what the documentation refers to as the “Registration Appeal Flow.”
A “dispute” flow means a subscription initiated through a specific page on the Amazon website, such as the “universal Prime decision page, shipping option selection page, Prime Video registration flow, or single-page checkout,” according to the court order.
How to request payment via Amazon payment
Eligible customers must submit a claim to receive payment during the current payment phase of Amazon Payments.
Only eligible Amazon customers who have redeemed their Prime benefits 10 times or fewer during a 12-month enrollment period may file a claim at this stage.
Those eligible to file a claim should have received a notification by email or mail, the payments website said.
Customers can make a claim by filling out a form on the online portal. Submissions will be reviewed for eligibility.
Requests may also be submitted by email by sending a completed request form to info@subscriptionmembershipsettlement.com. The settlement website states that the quickest way to file a claim is through an online portal.
The deadline to submit a claim is July 27th.
How much money will Amazon customers get from the settlement?
Customers can receive up to $51 from the settlement.
The amount each customer receives from a transaction is based on the total amount of Amazon Prime membership fees paid during the subscription period.
When will I receive my payment from Amazon?
For the second wave claims process, the filing period is 180 days, ending July 27th.
Amazon has 30 days from the time we receive each claim form to review it. Payments will be issued after the form is approved and are expected to be disbursed by September, the payment website said.
Automatic payments issued as part of the first wave were sent between November 12 and December 24, 2025.
