Severe thunderstorms could be an unwelcome guest during UFC Freedom 250 at the White House on Sunday, June 14th.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said the best chance of thunderstorms in Washington, D.C., is at 8 p.m. ET, the scheduled start time for a mixed martial arts event to coincide with President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.

“The main threat of severe thunderstorms moving through Washington, D.C., appears to be between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.,” NWS forecaster Kyle Palozzi said.

The chance of precipitation during this period will start at 30%, reach 70% by 8pm, and drop to 30% by midnight. However, Palozzi said the thunderstorms will not last long.

“Maybe something will pass through, there might be a lull, and then something might pick up again,” he said. “But I think the finer scale details are a little more uncertain at this point.”

Winds of 50 mph or more have a 30% chance of causing damage. There’s a 2 percent chance of a tornado and a 5 percent chance of hail, Palozzi said.

On Friday, the UFC postponed its press conference for more than an hour due to severe weather and lightning in the area.

However, the sky was clear during Saturday’s ceremonial weigh-in, and there was no rain at the event.

Sunday’s seven-game card commemorates America’s 250th anniversary.
