Watch Austin Hill prepare to replace Kyle Busch in the Coca-Cola 600.
Richard Childress Racing announced that Austin Hill will replace Kyle Busch at the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, North Carolina. This week, Kyle Busch passed away suddenly at the age of 41.
In a day full of tributes and support for the Busch family, it was a small gesture between two friends that caught the attention at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday.
A ceremony and moment of silence was held on the course before the start of the Coca-Cola 600 in memory of Kyle Busch, who died suddenly at the age of 41 on Thursday from severe pneumonia that progressed to sepsis. The entire Busch family was in attendance, including parents Tom and Gaye, NASCAR Hall of Famer brother Kurt Busch, wife Samantha, 11-year-old son Brexton, and 4-year-old daughter. Lennix.
Brexton stood with his arm around his grieving mother as there was a moment of silence as Owen Larson, son of two-time NASCAR champion Kyle Larson, walked over and hugged his friend. Like Brexton Bush, Owen Larson is 11 years old.
Brexton, who was often by her father’s side at races, recently changed her Facebook profile picture to one of the two embracing. On Saturday, Richard Childress Racing announced that Busch’s No. 8 will be retired after this weekend and will be “kept in reserve for when Brexton Busch is ready to compete in NASCAR races.”
Brexton Busch already knows how to win on the track. He has more than 150 wins in Outlaw Karting, Micro Sprint and Bandolero Bandits National Championships, with 23 of 33 starts and 28 podium finishes. He won the Golden Driller Award at the prestigious Tulsa Shootout in the JR Sprint division. He made his Legend Car debut at the Summer Shootout at Charlotte Moto Speedway, winning in his fifth start.
This year, he stepped up to full-size stock cars and competed in the JR Late Model division at California’s Madera Speedway for Wilson Motorsports.
