Texas primary election: Candidates heading to general election and runoff elections
As voting day for the Texas primary has passed, we now know who will advance to the general election and who will head to the runoff.
While Texas’ U.S. Senate Republican runoff elections seem to be attracting the most attention in Texas and across the nation, there are several other races in which Texans are voting.
Democrats and Republicans will be able to cast the deciding vote to choose their party’s candidates in November’s general election, from the lieutenant governor race to the congressional race.
Here’s what voters need to know as they head to the polls on Election Day, Tuesday, May 26th.
Texas Statewide Runoff Races
Here are the Republican and Democratic voters in each party’s runoff elections for statewide office. For information on congressional, state, and county runoff elections, contact your local elections office.
Republican primary runoff election
- us senate — John Cornyn vs. Ken Paxton.
- Texas Attorney General — Mays Middleton vs. Chip Roy.
- texas railroad commissioner — Jim Wright vs. Beau French.
Democratic primary runoff election
- lieutenant governor of texas — Marcos Velez vs. Vicki Goodwin.
- Texas Attorney General — Nathan Johnson vs. Joe Jaworski.

Republican Congressional Runoff Election
- district 7 — Tina Cohen vs. Alexander Hale.
- district 9 — Alex Mealer vs. Briscoe Cain.
- District 16 —Adam Bauman vs. Manuel J. Barraza.
- district 19 — Tom Sell vs. Abraham Enriquez.
- district 23 — Tony Gonzalez vs. Brandon Herrera (Gonzalez withdraws from the race).
- district 30 — Everett Jackson vs. Shodon Daniels.
- district 32 — Ryan Binkley vs. Jace Yarbrough. (According to the Texas Tribune, Binkley has withdrawn from the race.)
- district 33 — Patrick David Gillespie vs. John Sims.
- district 35 — John Lujan vs. Charles of the Cross.
- district 37 — Lauren B. Peña vs. Genelle Gary.
- district 38 — Shelley Dezeballos vs. Jon Bonk.
