USA TODAY talks about 40 years of American Girl Magic
USA TODAY reporters and editors revisited the era of American Girl dolls as the iconic brand celebrates its 40th anniversary.
American Girl fans, meet Daisy Davenport.
The beloved toy brand offers a sneak peek at the 2027 Girl of the Year, a line that adds new dolls with fresh stories every year.
American Girl will be releasing Daisy dolls this fall, and the company introduced her story on May 14 with the release of the book that will accompany the collection.
According to the American Girl website, each Girl of the Year character is meant to bring relatable stories to life and give voice to different backgrounds. Mattel says the collection has been in operation for more than 25 years.
The initial announcement of the Girl of the Year comes as American Girl celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, according to a news release.
Meet Daisy Davenport, American Girl’s 2027 Girl of the Year
Daisy Davenport is “an energetic, soccer-loving girl who is preparing for her first summer at sleepaway camp,” the news release said.
Her book, Daisy Davenport Saves the Day, details Daisy’s experiences at an overnight camp called Camp Gowonagin, where she faces “homesickness, new friendships, and unexpected challenges,” according to the synopsis.
Daisy was originally scheduled to attend camp with her best friend Callie, but when Callie gets injured and is unable to go, Daisy ends up traveling to Camp Gowonagin alone, the synopsis states.
“At Gowonagin Camp, Daisy learns to step out of her comfort zone by working as part of a team, overcoming her fear of the dark, and embracing new experiences like canoeing and night hiking,” the synopsis reads.
Throughout her time at camp. According to the synopsis, Daisy “learns the importance of patience, kindness, and courage, and ultimately gains confidence.”

The real-life Daisy Davenport doll will be released in September, and details of her story will also be announced, American Girl said.
As of May 14, the book “Daisy Davenport Saves the Day” is available for pre-order at americangirl.com.
