Just like hotels and restaurants on land, cruise ships are subject to health inspections, but they may look a little different.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Vessel Sanitation Program conducts routine inspections of ships in U.S. ports. Cruise ships within the jurisdiction are typically inspected twice a year.
“If a vessel travels outside the United States for an extended period of time, it may not be able to undergo twice-yearly inspections, but will be inspected again upon its return to the United States,” the CDC said on its website.
Inspections cover a wide range of onboard facilities and operations, from galleys to swimming pools and pest management. A vessel must receive a score of 86 or higher to be considered ‘satisfactory’, although some vessels score much higher than that.
Below, we’ve compiled a list of all cruise ships that received a 100 score in a recent inspection over the past year.
