In the latest CNN/SSRS poll released April 1, President Donald Trump has the worst approval rating on the economy of any presidential term.
Polls show 31% of Americans approve of President Trump’s economic response, up from 39% in January 2026, but CNN says the drop in support on this issue is even higher among Republicans, especially those under 45.
The poll, conducted between March 26 and March 30 among 1,201 American adults, found that 35% of Americans approve of President Trump’s job performance. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.

CNN poll shows gas prices rising as Americans dissatisfied with Iran
The new CNN poll comes as U.S. gas prices average more than $4 a gallon, according to AAA. Before the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran, low gas prices were a hot topic for the Trump administration, which is facing negative public opinion about the economy overall.
According to a CNN report, the poll found that about two-thirds of Americans said President Trump’s policies have worsened the economic situation, and 27% said they supported Trump’s efforts to tackle inflation.
CNN also reported that 63% of Americans say pump prices are causing financial hardship for their households, with 15% of them saying it is “severe.”
One poll respondent told CNN and the pollster about the most important issue facing the country: “Prices! Everything is too expensive. It’s very difficult to do anything other than work and get home. Going to the grocery store is ridiculous! Between the gas prices and the food prices, we’re poor!”
President Trump addressed concerns about gasoline prices in his address to the nation on April 1, saying that once the conflict ends, the Strait of Hormuz will reopen and prices will fall again.
