WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump expressed optimism about the progress of America’s military operations in Iran in a series of interviews on March 1.

The United States and Israel launched attacks against Iran, but Iran quickly counterattacked. Three U.S. service members have been killed and five others seriously injured in the ongoing conflict.

The president told Fox News’ senior White House correspondent Jackie Heinrich on Sunday that at least 48 Iranian leaders had been “annihilated” in a joint U.S.-Israeli attack. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei was among those killed in the airstrike.

President Trump wrote on Truth Social that the United States has also sunk nine Iranian warships and intends to pursue the rest of the fleet. He said US forces also destroyed Iran’s naval headquarters. “Other than that, their Navy is doing very well!” Trump wrote.

The president did not comment on the deaths of U.S. service members in his post. He has not spoken on camera about Iran’s military operations since the night of the video announcing the airstrike on Saturday.

But Trump told CNBC in a phone interview that while the path to ending the conflict depends on many factors, “everything is ahead of schedule.”

“Things are progressing very positively, very positively right now,” President Trump said.

President Trump reiterated that positive sentiment in an interview with The Atlantic on Sunday morning, saying Iranian officials “are willing to talk” and that Trump agreed.

“I should have done it sooner,” he told The Atlantic. “We should have offered something very practical and easy to do sooner. We waited too long.”
