  • Rivian is bringing the Apple Watch app to all vehicles through a new software update.
  • The app allows drivers to lock their doors, ventilate their windows and sound the alarm from their wrist.
  • This software enhancement comes as Rivian prepares to launch its new, more affordable R2 electric SUV.

Rivian is adding an Apple Watch integration application to all vehicles as part of the latest software update.

The Irvine, Calif.-based company said in a post on the Rivian website that the latest update includes “an all-new companion app for Apple Watch, giving you the ability to control your vehicle directly from your wrist.”

“No more searching for your phone in your bag. The new Apple Watch app puts your most important vehicle controls right on your device,” the release states. “With just a tap, you can lock or unlock a door, ventilate a window, or sound an alarm.”

Rivian says the Apple Watch app will also work for drivers of first- and second-generation vehicles.

The update comes as Rivian prepares to launch its new $45,000 electric SUV, the R2, which company officials say is critical to its long-term future as a viable automaker.

What other features is Rivian adding to the EV?

Rivian also said it will add an even higher ride option to Sport mode, with the company saying that “all compatible first- and second-generation vehicles” will be able to “adjust ride height to ‘standard’ when Sport mode is active.” Rivian said it made this update “in response to feedback from drivers who enjoy the responsiveness of Sport mode, but prefer the look and feel of a higher ride quality.”

Rivian said the update “expands the availability of Sport mode across our base dual-motor lineup.”

The company also said it will add Launch Mode functionality to all first-generation quad-motor and dual-motor performance vehicles of both generations.

How many EVs does Rivian sell?

Rivian sold 42,098 electric vehicles in 2025, according to Cox Automotive. This was an 18.2% decrease compared to the 51,442 EVs the company sold in 2024.

Rivian’s best-selling vehicle was the Rivian R1S, a seven-seater electric SUV.
