Tide has developed an all-new compact laundry detergent that is the same size as the popular Tide Pod.
Tide announced on February 17 that it has launched “Tide evo,” a “100% concentrated anhydrous tile with six cleaning layers,” and has begun selling it at retail stores nationwide. The new laundry tile is activated with cold water, uses tiny fibers to clean, and creates soap without liquids or fillers, Tide said in a news release.
The Tide evo tile’s cold water activation ability fits with the brand’s mission to convert three out of four laundry loads to cold water in the U.S. and Canada by 2030, reducing the environmental impact of laundry, the news release continues. In addition to the new formula, Tide evo tiles come in recyclable packaging and include a QR code that can be accessed with NaviLens. Consumers who are visually impaired can scan this code from up to 60 feet away to learn more about the product.
In 2012, Tide launched Tide Pods, which are small cubes filled with detergent. Light and bright, the pods have proven popular with consumers for over a decade. In 2018, Tide Pods unfortunately went viral as part of a social media challenge in which teenagers were caught on camera eating laundry detergent capsules. In response to the Tide Pod Challenge, Tide issued a statement warning consumers of the dangers of consuming pods and changed its pod containers.

Consumers may first notice that Tide evo tiles are dry, rather than filled with liquid laundry detergent like Tide Pods. Tide Pods have a fluffy texture, while Tide evo tiles are soft and cloth-like, according to a Tide news release.
The new tiles are also made with a different concentrated detergent fiber than Tide Pods, the news release states.

- Surfactants and enzymes: Breaks down dirt and removes it from fabrics.
- polymer: To prevent dirt from settling on the fabric during washing
- Odor neutralization technology and chelating agents: For removing internal dirt that causes odor
