“Crack the beads…and enjoy the glaze!” Krispy Kreme said in a Feb. 13 press release. “Krispy Kreme has a ‘sweet’ deal for Mardi Gras attendees.”
Mardi Gras, also known as “Fat Tuesday,” traditionally provides an opportunity to binge on fatty foods such as meat, eggs, milk, lard, and cheese in advance of Ash Wednesday and a 40-day period of prayer, fasting, and giving.
According to History.com, Mardi Gras is a Christian holiday whose origins date back thousands of years to pagan spring and fertility rituals.
Carnival season begins on January 6, 12 days after Christmas, and lasts until Fat Tuesday, and is celebrated primarily in countries with large Roman Catholic populations.
According to Krispy Kreme, fans who visit stores wearing Mardi Gras beads on Tuesday, February 17th will receive a free Original Glazed Donut.
