LIVIGNO, Italy — Chinese snowboarder Jiayu Liu fell hard on the last hit of his second qualifying run, and competition was halted for several minutes while medical staff treated him at the bottom of the halfpipe.

Liu, 33, was unable to move and was placed on an emergency sled.

Liu was 13th and needed to move up one spot to advance to the finals. She caught the edge on her final jump, colliding hard with her left arm and shoulder, ducking backwards and somersaulting to the bottom of the pipe, according to the Associated Press.

According to China’s Xinhua Sports news agency, medical officials said Liu’s injuries were unlikely to be spinal and could be related to the impact of the snow on his head.
