US Women’s Hockey vs. Finland Highlights: Hilary Knight’s Tied Record

MILAN — Captain Hilary Knight continues to score and the U.S. Olympic women’s hockey team continues to win.

Knight, a five-time Olympian, scored in her second straight game, tying the U.S. Olympic women’s hockey record. This was her 14th career goal, tying her with Natalie Darwitz and Katie King.

This goal gave the USA a 4-0 lead, and the USA won 5-0.

Alex Carpenter led the way with his second straight power play goal. Taylor Heise, Megan Keller and Abby Murphy also scored for the USA, which outscored the Czech Republic and Finland by a combined score of 9-1.

Keller finished with three points, while Murphy, Lyla Edwards and Britta Karl each had two points.

Aerin Franklin started in net for the second straight game and finished with 11 saves.

Finland, which lost 49-11, was unable to play Thursday’s opener against Canada due to an outbreak of norovirus within the team.

The U.S. next plays Switzerland on Monday, Feb. 9, followed by defending Olympic champion Canada the following day.

Hilary Knight was substituted at the end of the first period, but returned in the second period to tie the U.S. Olympic women’s hockey scoring record. Her 14th Olympic goal gave the United States a 4-0 lead. This was the USA’s second power play goal of the game. Taylor Heise and Megan Keller also scored in the period. Keller scored three points and Lyla Edwards had two assists in the game. The U.S. shot count was 36-9 through the second period.

Jeni Hilyskoski was called up due to a stumble. Finland finished it off and had a shorthanded chance at the end.

Five-time Olympian Hilary Knight returned to the ice one minute into the second period after taking a hard fall in the first period.

Vance is back at Milano Row Ice Hockey Arena. Following Friday’s opening ceremony, which drew boos from a crowd of more than 70,000, Vance and his family attended Team USA’s prelude game against Finland on Saturday. He arrived shortly before the end of the first period.

Vance participated in several events while cheering for Team USA at the Milan Winter Olympics. He attended a figure skating team event on Friday and watched the U.S. women’s hockey team defeat the Czech Republic 5-1 on Thursday.

Earlier Thursday, Vance met with several U.S. Olympians, regardless of political affiliation, to wish them well.

“Everyone, Democrats, Republicans, independents. We’re all rooting for you, rooting for you, and we know you’re all proud of us. We appreciate you all and we hope you enjoy it,” Vance said.

Finland managed to hold out considering the norovirus was passing through the team. However, the Americans scored their only goal of the period. Alex Carpenter needed just seven seconds to score America’s second power play of the game. The shot was 15-4 America. Hilary Knight went to the bench immediately after falling near the blue line.

The U.S. women’s team did not score on the first power play of the night, but did score on the second. Alex Carpenter scored his second goal of the Olympic Games when he found the back of the net 15:19 into the first period against Finland. Both came during the power play. Carpenter reached his 10th Olympic goal in 13 games. Laila Edwards and Megan Keller are credited with assisting Carpenter’s goal against the Czech Republic. America 1, Finland 0

Susannah Tapani is called for hooking.

The U.S. women had their first power play after Finland’s Michelle Karvinen was called for grabbing Abby Murphy’s stick. But the Americans could not take advantage of it and did not convert it. Caroline Harvey hit the post.

Net match between America’s Aerin Frankel and Finland’s Sanni Ahola. This will be Frankel’s second consecutive start.

The Swiss Ice Hockey Federation announced on Friday that a member of the women’s team had tested positive for norovirus. The positive test came after Switzerland’s opening match against the Czech Republic on Friday, the newspaper said.

“The affected player has been in a private room since arriving at the Olympic Village on Monday, February 2, 2026, and has been isolated from his team since he developed symptoms,” the federation said in a statement. “She has been symptom-free since this morning.”

The women’s team was absent from the opening ceremony as a precautionary measure. The federation said no other Swiss athletes were showing symptoms. Switzerland will play Canada on Saturday, whose opening game was postponed due to a norovirus outbreak in Team Finland. — mike brehm
