If riding the train isn’t enough to show your love for public transportation, perhaps wearing it will be.

Amtrak released a limited edition “tracksuit” on January 29th, and the two-piece tracksuit was on sale until February 2nd. Although not currently available for purchase, the suit is gaining attention online.

Amtrak’s “Tracksuit” features a hooded sweatshirt made of microfiber fleece and matching pants with a customized embroidered logo. The sweatshirt has a removable sleep mask built into the hoodie, making it perfect for travelers.

Are Amtrak “tracksuits” still available? Will Amtrak restock them?

Amtrak has not confirmed whether the tracksuits will be available for purchase again and did not immediately respond to a request from USA TODAY for comment on Feb. 3.

How much does an Amtrak “tracksuit” cost?

The “tracksuit” cost $279.

Social media reacts to viral ‘Trak suit’

The ‘Trak suit’ has gone viral, and social media users seem to be divided on it. Some praise its beauty, while others point out its high price.

“I didn’t know trains could fly. Amtrak really does fly,” one Instagram user commented on an Amtrak post promoting tracksuits.

Conversely, another user commented, “Aking $280 is a really great way to kindle goodwill (and) earn the ire of the public you’re supposed to be serving.” Several other users opined that they wish more affordable products were available from Amtrak to show more of their love for rail travel.

“If Amtrak stores made a similar Phase 7 type t-shirt, it would be a great, affordable option for people who want that,” one Instagram user commented, referring to the seventh edition of the classic train that Amtrak has crisscrossed the country with for 50 years.

Amtrak also has other products

As of February 3, Amtrak is offering a variety of apparel options for adults, including T-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, socks and down jackets. Amtrak toys such as popular stuffed animals, buttons, coffee mugs, pins, and sleep masks are also available for purchase at Amtrak’s online merchandise store.

“Tracksuit” made to commemorate the operation of Amtrak’s new train

“Tracksuit” was created by Anastasia Lukinskaia, a student at the New York School of Design. Last fall, Amtrak partnered with seven design school students to transform Amtrak’s new NexGen Acela trains into “iconic and timeless” tracksuits, according to a news release. The tracksuit was unveiled to the public during Fall 2025 Fashion Week in New York.

Introduced in August 2025, Amtrak’s NextGen Acela is an all-new train that connects Washington, D.C., to New York, Boston, and destinations in between. The trains feature updated seats, increased top speeds, and new amenities such as reading lights, power at each seat, 5G Wi-Fi, and more accessible toilets. The NextGen Acela can accommodate 80 more passengers per set than the first generation Acela.

As of August 2025, there are five NextGen Acela trains in service, and Amtrak will add one to two each month through 2027, according to a previous USA TODAY report. The total fleet includes 28 trains.
