  • The cost of auto insurance is rising along with the price of new cars.
  • The average cost of full coverage auto insurance was $2,312 per year as of December 2025.
  • Luxury, high-performance sports cars, such as Maserati and Audi models, are the most expensive to insure.

Car buyers are paying more than ever for new models, and the cost of insuring them has also increased in recent years.

The average cost of full-coverage auto insurance in the U.S. in December 2025 was $2,312 per year, or $193 per month, according to Experian data. Experian’s data is based on policies sold through the auto insurance marketplace, the group said. This is a decrease from the average annual payment of $2,746 that Experian reported in December 2024, but a significant increase compared to the average annual payment of $2,140 that the group reported in March 2023.

The findings come as car buyers paid a record average of $50,326 for a new car in December 2025, according to Kelley Blue Book.
