Kia Motors is recalling thousands of vehicles due to panel display issues, the company announced on January 27 through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Kia America is recalling certain 2025 Kia K4, 2025-2026 Sorento, Sorento Hybrid, Sorento Plug-In Hybrid Electric, 2026 Sportage, Sportage Hybrid, Sportage PHEV, K5, EV9, Carnival, and Carnival Hybrid vehicles. It is estimated that 42,677 vehicles are affected.

The company said these vehicles may have a software error that could cause the instrument panel display to malfunction.

As a result, these vehicles do not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards No. 101, “Controls and Displays” and 138, “Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems.”

How does this problem affect my car?

The company said the flaw could cause certain instrument cluster units to go into overtemperature protection mode due to excessive signal noise from the instrument cluster’s power management circuit, causing the display to temporarily disappear while driving.

When this issue occurs, the screen will not display information such as the speedometer, tire pressure monitoring system, or other signals.

This issue can increase the risk of crashes.

what can you do

Kia says the instrument panel display software will be updated free of charge over the air or by the dealer. According to the recall notice, the instrument cluster unit includes updated software that reduces signal noise and prevents unnecessary activation of the unit’s overtemperature protection mode.

The company said notices to owners will be mailed on March 26, 2026. Owners can contact Kia Customer Service at 1-800-333-4542.

The company will reimburse owners for repair costs already incurred pursuant to Kia Motors’ general reimbursement plan.
