Some grocery stores across the country are closing early due to the winter storm.
Giant Eagle, which has about 200 supermarkets in five states, will close all stores at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 25, Giant Eagle spokesman Dan Donovan told USA TODAY.
The Pittsburgh-based grocer has stores in north-central Ohio, western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, Indiana and Maryland.
In New England, Market Basket announced it would close all of its stores at 4 p.m. ET, the Providence Journal reported. This regional favorite has approximately 95 stores in Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine.

Giant Eagle’s statement thanked its team members for “making sure our community had the groceries they needed for themselves and their families this past week,” and said its Sunday grocery store “has seen a small but steady increase in customers coming in to pick up essential items.”
“With the safety of our customers and team members as our top priority, we have made the decision to close all Giant Eagle and Market District stores today at 4 p.m. We plan to reopen our stores tomorrow with regular business hours,” Donovan said in a statement.
Market Basket closes approximately 90 stores in New England
In New England, Market Basket announced it would close all of its stores at 4 p.m. ET, the Providence Journal, part of the USA TODAY Network, reported. This regional favorite has locations in Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine.
“Due to severe weather forecast for today, for the safety of our employees and customers, all Market Basket stores will be closing at 4pm today,” the company posted on Facebook. “thank you.”
