Greenland: President Trump will not use force

In remarks at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, President Donald Trump called for “immediate negotiations” to acquire Danish Greenland and said he had no intention of using military force to seize control of the Arctic island. “Unless I decide to use excessive force and force, we’re probably not going to get anything. Frankly, you can’t stop us, but I’m not going to do that,” Trump said. He added: “I have great respect for both the people of Greenland and the people of Denmark.” President Trump told European leaders that the United States needs Greenland for national security because it is the only country that can protect it from adversaries such as Russia and China.

ICE releases some detainees

Despite pledging “zero releases,” the Trump administration has quietly begun releasing dozens of immigrant families it had held in Texas detention centers but not deported. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has released about 160 people, half of them minors, into border detention facilities since Jan. 17 and plans to release up to 100 to 150 people a day over the next two to three weeks, according to the facility director and a person with direct knowledge of the releases.

Those in their 50s are worth $1.4 million.

Indiana wins NCAA title

Fernando Mendoza showed some late-game magic and No. 1 seed Indiana persevered to beat No. 10 Miami, 27-21, and win the College Football Playoff Championship Game for the first time in program history. The victory completed a remarkable turnaround orchestrated by second-year coach Curt Cignetti. He inherited one of the weakest programs in the Football Bowl Division historically, but quickly turned the Hoosiers into the best team the sport has to offer. The Hoosiers finished the football season with a perfect 16-0 record.
