Memo to Hollywood: Remake classics and risk the wrath of the Razzies.
War of the Worlds, a reinterpretation of the H.G. Wells story starring Ice Cube and his computer screen, and Disney’s Snow White, a live-action fairy tale starring Rachel Zegler, led the field with six nominations each at the 46th Golden Raspberry Awards. Each year, the Razzie Awards recognize the year’s most abhorrent films and award trophies on the eve of the Academy Awards. This year’s “winners” will be announced on March 14th.
“War of the Worlds” and “Snow White” are both nominated for the Razzie Award for top (worst) film, along with The Weeknd’s musical drama “Hurry Up,” the Paramount+ series “Star Trek: Section 31,” and Chris Pratt’s Netflix sci-fi adventure “Electric State.”
Cube is nominated for Worst Actor in a Leading Role, a category that also includes Dave Bautista (“In the Lost Lands”), Scott Eastwood (“Aram”), Jared Leto (“Tron: Ares”) and Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye (“Hurry for Tomorrow”). The nominees for worst actress include recent Oscar winners Ariana DeBose (Love Hearts) and Michelle Yeoh (Star Trek: Section 31), as well as Milla Jovovich (In the Lost Land), Natalie Portman (Fountain of Youth) and Rebel Wilson (Bride Hard).
Sylvester Stallone, often the target of Razzie Awards ire, was nominated for Worst Supporting Actor for Araram, and his daughter Scarlett Rose Stallone was nominated for Worst Supporting Actress for The Gunslingers. Other famous names in contention include Nicolas Cage (worst supporting actor for The Gunslingers) and James Corden and Rihanna (worst screen duo for The Smurfs).
