This embarrassing and geopolitically problematic passage is a reminder that Republicans are doing nothing, nothing at all, to rein in a man who is increasingly acting like a mad king.
President Trump hints at shifting focus from peace over Greenland
President Donald Trump has declared that peace is not “purely” a priority after he was snubbed of the Nobel Peace Prize for defending tariffs on control of Greenland.
When I first saw the memo from President Donald Trump to Norway’s prime minister posted on social media, I thought it was fake. I’ve been writing about this politician’s stupidity for more than a decade, but this insane whining communiqué to world leaders – threatening to take Greenland by any means necessary while spouting that President Trump didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize – was definitely a prank.
Oh, that’s true. You’ve fooled me a thousand times and I think it’s embarrassing.
Because it’s so important for Americans to realize how unhinged Trump has become, we’ve included the full, unedited text of his letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store below.
“Given that your country has decided not to award me the Nobel Peace Prize for stopping eight wars plus, I no longer feel obligated to think purely about peace. Although peace always prevails, I can now think about what is good and appropriate for the United States of America. Denmark We can’t protect that land from Russia or China. So why do they have any ‘ownership’? It’s just that boats landed there hundreds of years ago, but we did.”And I’ve done more for NATO than anyone else since its creation. And now, the world is not safe unless NATO has complete and total control of Greenland. ”
President Trump’s letter to Norway regarding the Nobel Prize is extremely embarrassing
This embarrassing and geopolitically problematic passage is a reminder that Republicans are doing nothing, nothing at all, to rein in a man who is acting like a mad king, antagonizing allies and threatening to destroy NATO and the world order.
And they are doing nothing, despite the fact that recent polls show that voters strongly oppose the acquisition of Greenland. A recent Quinnipiac poll found that nearly 90% of Americans oppose military occupation of the island.
As for the facts in President Trump’s letter, there aren’t that many.
First, the Nobel Peace Prize is not a government award. The winners are selected by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. Trump hasn’t stopped “8 Wars PLUS” and his random capitalization should worry us all.
Peter Viggo Jacobsen, an associate professor at the Royal Danish Defense College, told Sky News that the idea of defending Greenland from Russia and China was absurd. “There are no serious problems to solve. The Chinese and Russian ships he keeps talking about are a figment of his imagination.”
President Trump just made it up in his hate email to Norway.
The claim that “no document exists” regarding Denmark’s rights to Greenland is nonsense. A 1916 treaty between Denmark and the United States stated that the U.S. government “will not object to the Danish government extending its political and economic interests throughout Greenland.”
But let’s look beyond the fictional world Trump lives in and his belief that the rules of writing don’t apply to him and consider the sheer childishness of that text message. Although Trump did not win the Nobel Peace Prize, he now claims that he “no longer feels obligated to think purely about peace.”
Sir, you are the President of the United States, but you sound like a crying toddler who couldn’t win a game of dodgeball.
Even after President Trump accepted Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Colina Machado’s Nobel Peace Prize on January 15 (an event I thought would hold up for at least a week as the most embarrassing moment in American political history), his narcissism was not satisfied. If they don’t give Trump the toy, he will throw a tantrum and trample on the collective security of Greenland and the West.
Republicans are to blame for not doing anything to curb Trump’s insanity.
It’s been said before and I’ll say it again: We don’t have to live like this. If just a handful of Republicans stood up and let go of their naked opportunism, they could clearly put a stop to those on a dangerous spiral. They could give him a political backlash and maybe even muzzle this mad dog.
Until now, it seemed histrionic to say that Trump was an existential threat to America and the world. With NATO allies vowing to defend Greenland and sending troops to conduct military exercises on the island, and with China and Russia salivating at the idea of NATO disintegrating, the existential threat is very real.
Trump was and is a selfish fool who has no oars in the river of reality. If he got us into a war over his obsession with the Nobel Peace Prize, it wouldn’t be all his fault. Much of the blame will go to the dog Republicans who saw these warning signs, read the insane text messages to the Norwegian Prime Minister, and decided to ignore the will of the American people and let a madman at the wheel send us all off a cliff.
