Piers Morgan is sharing an update from the hospital as he continues to recover from his recent injury.
The British talk show host, 60, posted a selfie of himself lying in a hospital bed on social media on Sunday, January 18th. Morgan told her followers that she “tripped on a small step” in a London hotel restaurant and broke her femur, which was “severe enough to require a new hip.”
The former “America’s Got Talent” judge said he is recovering in the hospital and will need to use crutches for six weeks. He added that long-distance travel will not be possible for 12 weeks.
“The new year is officially starting!” Morgan also wrote sarcastically, “I blame Donald Trump.”
Morgan also shared a photo on Instagram of an X-ray showing the fracture.
According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, femoral shaft fractures usually require surgery and can take three to six months to fully heal.
“A fracture of the femur is a serious injury that requires immediate treatment,” explains the Cleveland Clinic. “Fractures of the femur are treated with surgery and physical therapy. It can take several months for a femur fracture to heal. You can fracture your femur by being in a car accident, falling, or being shot. Older people, who are more susceptible to injuries from falls, are more likely to fracture their femur.”
The Mayo Clinic also points out that hip replacement is a surgical procedure that removes and replaces damaged parts of the hip joint, and replacement parts are “usually made of metal, ceramic, or hard plastic.”
Morgan is currently the host of the online talk show Piers Morgan Uncensored. He previously hosted “Piers Morgan Live” on CNN and held positions at British tabloids including News of the World and The Sun. Morgan, who has long faced backlash for his commentary on topics such as Meghan Markle, is also a former judge on “America’s Got Talent.”
