Matt Prokop, the former Disney star of “High School Musical 3” and “Geek Charming,” has been arrested on charges of possession of child pornography and aggravated assault.
Former Disney star Matt Prokop has been arrested on charges including possession of child pornography.
Prokop was arrested on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, on charges including evading arrest or detention, resisting arrest, search or transportation, violation of bail or protective order, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and felony possession of child pornography, the Victoria County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to USA TODAY on Monday, Jan. 12. TMZ first reported the arrest.
The former actor’s bail violation stems from a 2024 incident in which media reported that the Victoria, Texas, native was arrested on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend.
Prokop, 35, is being held at the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office Jail. A trial date has not yet been set.
USA TODAY has reached out to the Victoria County District Attorney’s Office for comment.
The former child actor played Jimmy “Rocketman” Zara in the Disney feature film “High School Musical III: Senior Year” and played Josh Rosen opposite his former girlfriend Sarah Hyland in the Disney Channel original film “Geek Charming.” The two reportedly dated for more than four years until 2014, when the “Modern Family” star filed for a restraining order, accusing him of physical and verbal abuse during their relationship.
According to People and the Independent, Hyland claimed at the time that he had to ask his on-screen mother, Julie Bowen, to be present to “peacefully end” their relationship. In response, Prokop threw a lighter at her, threatened to kill her dog and burn down her house, according to court documents obtained by news outlets.
Prokop has appeared opposite Hyland in episodes of Modern Family, Hannah Montana and Good Luck Charlie, but has had no acting credits since the permanent restraining order was filed.
