Actor TK Carter, known for his roles in “The Thing” and “Punky Brewster,” has passed away. He was 69 years old.
Carter was pronounced dead Friday night after deputies responded to a call about an unresponsive man in Duarte, California. According to the Associated Press, no foul play is suspected.
Born Thomas Kent Carter on December 18, 1956, Carter grew up near Los Angeles and began performing stand-up at age 12. After starting his career in comedy, Carter played the role of Nowles in “The Thing” and appeared in films such as “Space Jam,” “LA Riots Spectacular,” and “Ski Patrol.”
He had a recurring role as Michael “Mike” Fulton on the sitcom “Punky Brewster,” which aired from 1984 to 1988. Recent projects include roles in the series “The Company You Keep” and 2023’s “Dave.”
Actors praise comedy’s ‘king’ TK Carter
Fellow actor Jamie Foxx posted a tribute on January 10, calling Carter a “cornerstone of comedy” and writing, “Power King, you were an inspiration to me and so many other comedians.”
Viola Davis was also honored after Carter’s death.
“You were a hidden talent! An actor with unprecedented depth and…a great soul. We felt like family. So proud to have spent time with you…Rest in peace,” Davis wrote on Instagram.
“TK Carter was a consummate professional and a true soul with talent that transcended genres,” publicist Tony Freeman told The Associated Press in a statement. “He brought laughter, truth and humanity to every role he played, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations of artists and fans alike.”
