Nothing has changed since the October game in Eugene. The Ducks played well defensively in their quarterfinal win over Texas Tech, but Indiana’s offense is light years from what the Red Raiders showed last week. Oregon State wasn’t able to stop the Hoosiers in October, and they won’t be able to stop them in the future. Indiana 37, Oregon 17.

Can Indiana beat Oregon for the second time? Both teams had dominant records in the quarterfinals, and the Hoosiers will do their best to stop a much-improved defense. But Indiana has a clutch gene that showed itself all season long, and it doesn’t go away in the semifinals. Fernando Mendoza threw the ball effectively, and Oregon State had several chances to fight back, but they were unable to get past Indiana, and the team in first place in the playoffs will advance to the national championship game. Indiana 29, Oregon 27.

It will take a huge effort to conquer Indiana. But as shown in the Orange Bowl, Oregon can get it done on defense. The Ducks need to learn from this year’s 30-20 loss to Indiana and bring new ideas to the offense. But it will take some ingenuity to beat the Hoosiers. Indiana 37, Oregon 23.

If history is to be believed, Indiana will never be two games away from a national championship. So the fact that no team in the last 30 years has won twice in the same season in the national title race is nothing to worry about. However, the game against Oregon still has big challenges and will likely be the toughest game remaining. Look for the Ducks and Dante Moore to take advantage of the familiarity of regular season games to improve their play and come away with a dramatic win. Oregon State 23, Indiana State 21.

The pick-six made the score of the first matchup between the Hoosiers and Ducks appear closer than it actually was. Indiana State pretty much controlled the game. Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza will not repeat the mistakes of the first matchup and Indiana will advance to the title game. Indiana 35, Oregon 17.

The previous Indiana-Oregon matchup in Eugene was a close game, but at the end of the game there wasn’t much question as to who was the better team. Indiana seemed to be better.
Why should a rematch in neutral territory, three time zones away from Oregon, play out any differently? No way.
Oregon State had the edge against Texas Tech, but Indiana looked even better against Alabama. The Hoosiers have proven time and time again that they are the most complete team in the nation.
Oregon’s defense is good. Indiana is better. The Ducks have a good quarterback. Indiana is better. This game can be played in different positions. Oregon is great. Maybe even something really good. Indiana is much better. Indiana 31, Oregon 21.
