Taco Bell is building on the hype of the Quesarito’s return with a new menu lineup inspired by another fan-favorite discontinued product.

Volcano Quesarito features new Volcano Sauce, a spicy addition inspired by the chain’s popular lava sauce.

Although not the same as Lava sauce, the new Volcano sauce is a cheese base with added spices, building on the legacy of the previous menu item and last available on the limited edition Volcano menu in 2023. Prior to that, rava sauce was not available since 2016.

“Lava Sauce has not only achieved cult status, it has carved out a place in Taco Bell history,” the chain said in a news release, adding that Volcano Sauce “pays homage to the original that started it all and can be considered a disciple of Lava Sauce here.”

Volcano sauce is the star of the new Volcano Quesarito, which also features other menu items such as Crunchwraps and Crunchy Tacos. While Volcano Quesarito is available nationwide, the entire Volcano menu is available exclusively on the Taco Bell app for a limited time.

Just a few weeks ago, Taco Bell brought back its popular Quesarito product, which was discontinued in 2023, just in time for the holiday season.

For a limited time starting January 8th, Taco Bell customers can get the Volcano Quesarito for $4.99 nationwide. The new Volcano Sauce is also available as a side.

Rewards members also get access to the complete Volcano Style menu in the Taco Bell app. It has the following features:

  • Volcano crunch tacos: A classic crunchy taco layered with seasoned beef, crunchy shredded lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, and volcano sauce.
  • Volcano Crunchwrap: An iconic staple layered with seasoned beef, nacho cheese sauce, volcano sauce, cool reduced-fat sour cream, shredded lettuce, and tomato.
  • Volcano cheese G: Warm, melty flatbread is layered with a three-cheese blend, encasing a crunchy taco filled with seasoned beef, shredded lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, and finished with volcano sauce.
  • Volcano steak fries: Seasoned fries are piled high with steak, nacho cheese sauce, cheddar cheese, and pico de gallo, and finished with a drizzle of volcano sauce to whet your appetite.
  • Belgrande Volcano: Nacho chips loaded with seasoned beef, refried beans, nacho cheese sauce, volcano sauce, reduced-fat sour cream, and fresh tomatoes.

Has Taco Bell brought back lava sauce?

Taco Bell didn’t bring back its popular Lava sauce, but it is promoting its new Volcano sauce as a similar replacement.

Instead, Taco Bell says Volcano Sauce is “part of the Lava Sauce family, delivering the flavor and heat expectations fans love from its predecessor.”

“We’re always looking for new ways for our fans to experience what they love on our menu,” Taco Bell Chief Marketing Officer Luis Restrepo said in a release. “Volcano Sauce is proof that we continue to lead in sauce innovation and continue to provide our fans with bold, coveted experiences that can only be found at Taco Bell.”

According to the chain, Volcano Sauce is “a creamy, mouth-watering sauce made with a blend of cheese and flavorful spices that delivers the fiery legacy of the lava sauce that fans know and love.”
